New Han Solo, Alden Ehrenreich, On the Moment He First Stepped Onboard the Millennium Falcon

Posted: 14 Nov 2016 07:30 PM PST

Alden Ehrenreich is on the cusp of becoming an instant superstar. In Warren Beatty's Rules Don't Apply, Ehrenreich shines as a go-getter chauffeur working for Howard Hughes whose straitlaced life begins to unravel after he breaks the rules and falls for one of the many aspiring actresses (Lily Collins) on Hughes' payroll. Between his dashing good looks and addictive charisma, Ehrenreich steals much of the film, leaving no doubt this kid is ready for his greatest challenge as an actor yet: playing a younger version of beloved Star Wars character Han Solo in a stand-alone movie due out in 2018. When Fandango sat down to chat with Ehrenreich about Rules Don't Apply and his evolving career, we couldn't help but ask about the enormity of...

'Jurassic World 2' Will Be More Connected to 'Jurassic Park,' Begins Shooting in March

Posted: 14 Nov 2016 06:00 PM PST

Jurassic World made close to two billion dollars, which means the sequel probably shouldn't divert too much from its formula. But if there's anything fans might love to see more of in subsequent installments it's more characters from the original movie, Jurassic Park. That sort of direct tie-in casting hasn't been announced yet, if it ever will be, but the director of Jurassic World 2 -- aka Jurassic Park 5 -- is hinting that we'lll see something linking it more to the first movie than we saw with last year's soft reboot.  J.A. Bayona told Cinema Blend: What we’re doing is a sequel to Jurassic World, but it’s definitely the fifth chapter of a longer saga. It’s very interesting. It’s always...

'Jackie' Trailer: Natalie Portman May Just Win an Oscar for This

Posted: 14 Nov 2016 04:30 PM PST

There are some outstanding female performances this year in movies -- so many that it's going to make for one of the most competitive Best Actress races in years. Perhaps leading a very formidable pack is Natalie Portman, whose performance as Jackie Kennedy in Jackie may be her best work yet. A new trailer for Jackie has now arrived (watch it below), in which Portman portrays the former First Lady in the immediate hours and days following the death of President Kennedy.   The film, directed by Pablo Larraín, plays more like a series of moments than it does a straight narrative -- hopping between scenes that take place minutes after President Kennedy is shot to days after the incident, as the First Lady assists in the planning of her husband's...

First 'Patriots Day' Trailer Relives the Boston Marathon Bombing

Posted: 14 Nov 2016 03:00 PM PST

As a director, Peter Berg isn't exactly subtle with his patriotism. Whether it's with the FBI embedded in the middle east (The Kingdom), a small Texas football town (Friday Night Lights), service members real (Lone Survivor) and fictional (Battleship), or civilian engineers facing a disaster (Deepwater Horizon), his movies proudly wave the American flag. It's only natural that his next movie is called Patriots Day. Co-written by Berg, Patriot's Day is about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing as seen through the eyes of the first responders and follow-up government teams that orchestrated the manhunt for the two bombing suspects.  Mark Wahlberg, Kevin Bacon, John Goodman, Michelle Monaghan, J.K. Simmons and Khandi Alexander star.  Patriots Day hits...

Watch Scarlett Johansson in Jaw-Dropping 'Ghost in the Shell' Trailer

Posted: 14 Nov 2016 11:00 AM PST

Director Rupert Sanders made his feature debut with 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman, an action adventure that twisted the fairy tale into a dark, galloping thriller. Still, it was difficult to envision what he might add to Ghost in the Shell, a live action adaptation of a Japanese manga series first published in 1989. In the U.S., the most famous version of the series has been the 1995 animated movie, which quickly developed a rabid fan base. A movie version was in development for years before finally moving forward. Casting Scarlett Johansson in the lead role caused controversy, since the original character was not only named Major Motoko Kusanagi but also experienced an identity crisis of sorts, based in part on his outward appearance. To be fair, however, the identity...
