'Gilmore Girls' Creator Offers Freudian Reason for Rory's Relationship with Logan

Posted:

Team Logan is in for a blow. "Gilmore Girls" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino has revealed why Rory dated her college boyfriend, Logan, and the reason is not necessarily heartwarming; instead, it's downright Freudian.

"We wanted Rory to date her father," Sherman-Palladino told Entertainment Weekly of her and executive producer Daniel Palladino's reasoning. "Every girl has a father issue, and Logan was Christopher."

There certainly are similarities. Both fictional men came from privileged backgrounds and couldn't always be counted on. Sherman-Palladino grants that Logan (Matt Czuchry) was "charming" and "smart," but when push came to shove, he was "not quite the dependable soul" that Rory (Alexis Bledel) needed.

Interestingly, it sounds like Logan could have changed over the years. The creator amended her statement a bit, adding, "Or, at that time, was not the great dependable soul." Perhaps we'll see a new and improved Logan when he pops up in the revival, "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life," to potentially vie for Rory's heart.

It might not all be bad news, Team Logan.

J.K. Rowling Drops Intriguing 'Fantastic Beasts' Tidbits on Twitter

Posted:

US-ENTERTAINMENT-FANTASTIC BEASTSJ.K. Rowling's Twitter account has always been a great place to get more information about her projects straight from the source, and lately, it has turned into a treasure trove of "Fantastic Beasts" tidbits.

On Monday, the "Harry Potter" author answered a number of questions about her new spinoff film series, which kicked off with "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" on Nov. 18. Fans had questions about everything from why the series expanded from three parts to five to whether or not protagonist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) was wearing a Hufflepuff scarf.

*Warning: There may be spoilers ahead.*

Rowling gave lots of interesting answers, including about the trajectory of the series. Apparently, "there's just too much story" for three films because it covers events that took place in the wizarding world between 1926 and 1945. Other tidbits Rowling was willing to share were also compelling. For example, Newt was wearing a Hufflepuff scarf; "Queenie the queen" (Alison Sudol) will come back in the next movie; and we'll learn more about why being expelled from Hogwarts was so different for Newt than it was for Hagrid.

Not surprisingly, Rowling couldn't answer all of the questions she was asked; she had to leave some material to be covered in future films, after all. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is now in theaters.

'Barry' Trailer: College-Aged Barack Obama Tries to Find His Place

Posted:

The man we now know as President Barack Obama was once just a college kid called "Barry," as we'll soon see in the new Netflix film of the same name.

The streaming service dropped the movie's official trailer Monday, showing a young Obama at the start of his junior year at Columbia University. He finds himself straddling multiple social spheres and struggling to define who he is and what it means to be an American. Netflix describes the film "the story of a young man grappling with those same issues that his country, and arguably the world, are still coming to terms with 35 years later."

Based on the trailer, the film will provide an intriguing look at his past.
Devon Terrell plays Obama, and the cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Ashley Judd, Jason Mitchell, Jenna Elfman, Avi Nash, Annabelle Attanasio, and Ellar Coltrane.

"Barry," which is directed by Vikram Gandhi, was met with praise when it premiered at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival; its next stop is Netflix on Dec. 16.

'Twin Peaks' Fans to Get a Special Holiday Treat from Showtime

Posted:

"Twin Peaks" fans have the cult series' long-awaited third season to look forward to when it debuts on Showtime in 2017, but in the meantime, the premium network is offering a special holiday surprise.

Starting Dec. 26, Showtime will make the entire original series available to subscribers on the network's streaming service, Showtime On Demand, and Showtime Anywhere. Fans, old and new, will be able to binge to their hearts' content leading up to the new series. Who knows? The mystery of homecoming queen Laura Palmer's murder may be the perfect antidote to too much holiday cheer.

The first two seasons of "Twin Peaks" aired between 1990 and 1991. ABC put the series on hiatus before ultimately canceling it, but not before "Twin Peaks" managed to build up a loyal fan base that has only grown in the 25 years since. Now that a third season is finally becoming a reality, the show is bringing back many of its original cast and crew, including Kyle MacLachlan, who played FBI Special Agent Dale Hopper, and creators David Lynch and Mark Frost.

The series will head back its strange Washington town -- the fictional Twin Peaks, of course -- in the episodes to come. Thanks to Showtime (not to mention the painful two-and-a-half-decade wait), fans will be ready.

Angela Bassett Joins 'Black Panther' Cast as T'Challa's Mother

Posted:

FOX Broadcasting Company, FX, National Geographic And Twentieth Century Fox Television's 68th Primetime Emmy Awards After PartyThe star-studded cast of Marvel's upcoming "Black Panther" movie just added another A-list actress to the ensemble, with Oscar nominee Angela Bassett boarding the flick.

Marvel announced on Monday that Bassett will be playing Ramonda, who is the mother of protagonist T'Challa, a.k.a. Black Panther (played by ). In the "Black Panther" comics, Ramonda has a fairly dark back story; it's unclear how much of it will adapted for the hero's standalone flick, but if anyone can breathe life into the badass character, it's the equally badass Bassett.

Bassett's casting is just the latest coup for the feature, which has already shored up an impressive roster of talent. Boseman leads the starry ensemble, joined by (playing villain Erik Killmonger), Oscar winner , Oscar winner (playing Nakia, a member of the all-female Dora Milaje royal guard and a love interest for T'Challa), (playing Okoye, the leader of the Dora Milaje), , , and .

"Black Panther," directed by Ryan Coogler, is set to begin production sometime early next year. It's due in theaters on February 16, 2018.

Filming Rory and Dean's 'Gilmore Girls' Sex Scene Was Super Awkward

Posted:

gilmore girls, rory, dean, sex sceneWe've all heard actors and actresses claim that filming sex scenes is an extremely awkward experience, but according to the stars behind one memorable "Gilmore Girls" moment, there was a specific, size-related reason that things got weird while depicting the deed.

Alexis Bledel and Jared Padalecki, who play Rory and Dean, recently chatted with Entertainment Weekly about shooting the first time that their characters slept together on the show. The shocking hook-up -- which occurred in the season four finale (and is shown in a little more detail in the season five premiere) when a married Dean cheats on his wife and Rory loses her virginity -- is certainly one of the most memorable moments in "Gilmore" history, but as Bledel and Padalecki tell it, they'll always remember filming the scene in question for an entirely different reason: trying to fit together on Rory's ridiculously small bed.

"It was like a miniature twin," Bledel recalled to EW. "In the outtakes I fell off that bed a couple of times."

Padalecki also remembered Bledel taking a tumble or two, and admitted that he used the camera angle to his advantage when trying to fit his tall frame onto the mattress.

"My feet definitely were off it," the actor told EW. "There was a shot where my waist to my head was laying on the bed but my legs were counterbalancing me on the floor so that I wouldn't roll off. ... It works for the scene because it was supposed to be awkward, so maybe that's why they bought the smallest bed on the planet."

Ah, the magic of television.

According to "Gilmore" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, Rory's bed was brought out of storage for "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life." Will she have anyone sharing her mattress in the Netflix revival? We have some theories, but we'll find out for sure when the new episodes debut on November 25.

Emma Stone to Host 'Saturday Night Live' in December

Posted:

Variety And WWD Host 2nd Annual StyleMakers Awards - ArrivalsThe month of December is already shaping up to be a great one for "Saturday Night Live," with Emma Stone set to host the show.

Stone will return to Studio 8H on December 3, marking her third time as emcee on the late night sketch series. The last time she hosted was in 2011, though she's popped up on "SNL" several times in recent years, including appearing on an episode hosted by her then-boyfriend and "Amazing Spider-Man" costar Andrew Garfield in 2014, cameoing in a brilliant sketch lampooning celebs auditioning for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," and doing her best Gilda Radner impression during the "SNL" 40th anniversary celebration in 2015.
The musical guest for Stone's episode will be Shawn Mendes. This will be the singer-songwriter's first time appearing on "SNL."

Stone's hosting stint comes at the same time she'll be deep in the throes of promoting her new movie, the musical "La La Land," considered by many awards pundits to be a lock for some Oscar nominations come January. Stone is currently jockeying for position in a very tough Best Actress race (her main competition will be "Jackie" star Natalie Portman), so expect her to pull out the big guns -- a.k.a. do plenty of singing and dancing -- when she returns to 30 Rock.

Dave Chappelle to Bring Three Stand-Up Specials to Netflix

Posted:

Dave Chappelle Performs At Radio City Music HallDave Chappelle is on a roll lately: Fresh off his comeback stint hosting "Saturday Night Live" on November 12, the comedian is set to headline three stand-up specials for Netflix.

The streaming service announced the specials on social media on Monday, later adding more details about the events in a press release.
One of the specials will be an original, filmed exclusively for Netflix; the other two "hail directly from Chappelle's personal comedy vault," and were filmed at Austin City Limits Live in April 2015 and the Hollywood Palladium in March 2016. Premiere dates are unknown at this point, but all three are expected to drop sometime in 2017, with the latter two released simultaneously.

"Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy — searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential," said Lisa Nishimura, vice president of original documentary and comedy for Netflix, in a statement. "Dave's three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy, and we are honored he will mark his global return on Netflix."

Chappelle's welcome return to comedy has been building steadily recently, with the stand-up performing a whopping 500 shows over the past few years. He famously ducked out of the public eye at the height of his "Chappelle's Show" popularity back in 2005, an absence he acknowledged in his opening monologue on "SNL."

The First 'Cars 3' Teaser Predicts a Grim Future for Lightning McQueen

Posted:

cars 3, teaser, trailer, lightning mcqueenPixar has released the first official teaser trailer for "Cars 3," and unlike its lighthearted predecessors, the threequel looks like it will take a slightly darker path for protagonist Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson).

The clip is less than a minute long, but what it lacks in length, it makes up for by setting a tense tone, suggesting that this isn't the "Cars" franchise you knew before. Gone are the candy-colored, smiling racecars that populated the first two flicks; they've been replaced by faceless vehicles zipping around a track, faster and faster until we spy McQueen, first out front, and then lagging behind.

"McQueen is fading, fading fast!" intones a commentator over the track loudspeaker. We hear the winded Lightning try to catch his breath, before a slow-mo shot of the battered, broken car comes tumbling through the frame, in the midst of an epic crash. "From this moment," reads some text on screen, "everything will change."

It's certainly a grim glimpse at the third entry in the massively popular Pixar series. But is this really what fans should expect when the flick hits theaters next year? Surely the franchise isn't taking a cue from the "dark and gritty reboot" genre, is it?

We'll have to wait until next summer to see. "Cars 3" is set for release on June 16, 2017.

7 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Expect 'Fantastic Beasts' to Be the Next Harry Potter at the Box Office

Posted:

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" was supposed to be one of the Fall's biggest movies, but it suffered from some of the same problems that's bedeviled other films this season: how to find enough of a fantastic audience.

Predictions for the "Harry Potter" spinoff's premiere ran anywhere from $80 to $100 million. After all, it's been five years since the last film set in the Potter universe, and anticipation for a return trip to the wizard-ing world was high, what with a screenplay by J.K. Rowling herself, the franchise's first ever American-set story, and the launch of a new five-installment series of movies.

And yet, after all the weekend wand-waving was done, "Fantastic Beasts" had conjured up only an estimated $75.0 million. Though good enough for first place, that's $10 million below the opening take of "Doctor Strange" two weeks ago, and $28 million behind the $103 million averaged by the eight "Harry Potter" movies during their opening weekends. An opening in the $90 million range would have indicated strong enthusiasm stateside to warrant the five-film franchise plan. Now, the movie will need all the help at the international box office not only to recoup its reported $180 million budget before P & A, but also to justify five future outings at almost $200 million a pop. Would you spend that much on five films when the first film opened to less than amazing results?

Why didn't "Fantastic Beasts" cast a similar spell over the box office? Here are seven reasons, starting with the glaringly obvious:
1. No Harry
Sorry, Newt Scamander, but you're just not the Boy Who Lived. You're the zoologist who traveled. You don't even get your name in the title, like Harry did, eight times. The near total absence of familiar characters in this prequel, set 70 years and a continent away from the actions of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," wasn't necessarily a deal-breaker, but it doesn't seem to have helped, either.

2. No Real Bankable Stars
True, the Potter movies had no stars either when "Sorcerer's Stone" launched the franchise; rather, the franchise was big enough to make stars out of Daniel Radcliffe and his Hogwarts pals. Maybe it'll make one out of Oscar-winning Eddie Redmayne, too. But going into the project, Redmayne was anything but a proven box office draw. Even if you loved him as Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything," that didn't mean you were eager to see him play a 1920s wizard with a briefcase full of magical animals.

3. No Source Material to Inspire Fandom
This was the first "Potter" movie not based on a previous novel, just a fake textbook that popped up on Harry's syllabus decades later. That the plot was a mystery to all Potter fans was supposed to be a selling point, but without a novel to whet fan appetites and introduce the characters and setting, "Beasts" may have proved too confusing -- or just plain too "who cares?" -- for even some hardcore Potterphiles.

4. Potter Fans Are Mostly All Grown Up
"Beasts" attracted an audience that was 55 percent above the age of 35, and just 18 percent were under the age of 18 -- or less than what one would expect considering the target audience. Remember, kids who were Potter fans when the movies began 15 years ago are now mortgage-paying adults, often with kids of their own. That and the fact that "Beasts" is a period drama about adults and not a contemporary-set film about school children seems to have contributed to the adult-skewing polls. It's good to see grown-ups finally returning to the multiplex, but something's wrong when a J.K. Rowling fantasy movie can't enchant a kid audience.

5. Beastly Rivals
Let's start with that other current movie sorcerer. Knocked out of the top spot in its third weekend, "Doctor Strange" is still holding on well, earning an estimated $17.7 million this weekend. Yep, all the grown-ups are back, and they're watching guys with capes perform spells. Or maybe they were seeing "Arrival," "Almost Christmas," or "Hacksaw Ridge," adult comedies and dramas that are also holding up well. The kids, meanwhile, were all seeing "Trolls" for the third straight weekend; it came in third, just a hair behind "Strange." That urgent, must-see-it-the-first-weekend feeling just wasn't there among potential "Beasts" audiences. And that may have been due to...

6. Low Stakes
Harry Potter had to save the world. It's less clear what drives Newt, but even with the Muggle-world catastrophe of World War II looming for the "Beasts" characters, we already kinda know how that one turned out.

Plus, we got to watch Harry, Ron, and Hermione grow up on screen over the course of 10 years of movies. No such treat is in store for "Beasts" viewers. So it's harder for even full-on Potterheads to get emotionally invested this time around.

7. Multiplex Drain
THE EDGE OF SEVENTEENHas the success of "Doctor Strange" ended the fall box office slump, or just provided a temporary break from it? It's starting to look like the latter, with total receipts at the multiplex declining for the second straight weekend.

Every new movie underperformed expectations. Teen dramedy "The Edge of Seventeen" was expected to net low-to-mid teens with its 95% "Fresh" RT score. Instead, it came in seventh place with less than $5 million. And no one wanted Miles Teller's boxing biopic "Bleed for This," which flopped in eighth place. Also bombing? Ang Lee's buzzed-about Oscar hopeful "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk," which expanded wide in its second weekend but wound up in 14th place with just an estimated $930,000, or a measly $791 per screen

Viewers seemed to enjoy "Beasts and "Seventeen," giving "Beasts" an A CinemaScore and the latter an A-. But for paying customers who enjoyed those movies to recommend them to others, they first had to be enticed into the theater.

And yet, clearly, people had better things to do this weekend and last than to go to the movies.

'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Has Larger Role for (Recast) Dickon Tarly

Posted:

Sam Tarly's younger brother will apparently have more screen time in "Game of Thrones" Season 7, but he'll be played by a new face. (Which is not to say he'll be a Faceless Man, although GoT should start using that excuse since it keeps recasting roles.)

Freddie Stroma ("unREAL") played Dickon Tarly in Season 6's awkward family dinner scene, when Sam and Gilly visited Horn Hill.

We were looking forward to seeing more of Stroma, and apparently we can -- when he's on the ABC series "Time After Time," where he plays H.G. Wells.

Watchers on the Wall posted the recast news -- which has yet to be confirmed by HBO -- reporting that Stroma's ABC schedule likely conflicted with "Game of Thrones," leading to the change. Who has the role now? WotW says British actor Tom Hopper ("Merlin," "Black Sails") is the new Dickon, and he's been seen with actor James Faulkner, who plays scary dad Randyll Tarly.

STARZ at NY Comic Con 2016 - Day 2WotW also shared some mini spoilers about Dickon and Randyll Tarly, saying they both fight in a major ambush/battle scene in Season 7. Read the full post for more details on the ambush, along with other filming spoilers. And welcome to the fold, Tom Hopper!

"Game of Thrones" Season 7 premieres summer 2017.

Why 'The Walking Dead' Fans Should Worry for Carl Grimes

Posted:

Three things should have you questioning the future of Carl Grimes on "The Walking Dead."

1. Actor Chandler Riggs, now 17, just got accepted to college:

Auburn University is in Alabama, although it's still not that far (about 1.5 hour drive) from where "Walking Dead" shoots in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Still, is he going to commute? TWD just finished shooting Season 7 -- the filming schedule runs from early May to late November -- so it stands to reason that Riggs would be in college for at least a few months of the 2017 shooting season. Even if he decides to defer a year or whatnot, what would that mean for Carl's scenes on the show? He's not a lead player in every scene every week, but the comic book character is pretty darn key, and if Riggs does stay on the show and commutes, does that mean even less screen time for CORAL?

2. Riggs apparently just finished his contract.

Chandler Riggs's father, William, posted a congratulatory note on Facebook that got fans in a tizzy, because it's easy to read it as The End. However, Chandler will turn 18 in June 2017, so maybe this #freedom is just for Papa Riggs. The actor is probably signing a new contract for the future. Right? Here's what Papa Riggs posted:

Completed 7 years on TWD! #freedom #thewalkingdead

A photo posted by William Riggs (@dadszombieroadtrip) on

There was actually a longer version posted to Facebook November. 17, which is around the same time that TWD Season 7 finished filming. That post no longer seems to be active, but here's what it read:

"7 year contract completed! Grateful to AMC, Cast & Crew, TWD fan base and especially Chandler for always being 100% dedicated. Whether it was getting up at 4AM, working in the freezing cold past 2AM, leaving his friends and carefree kiddom behind, scrambling to make up missed schoolwork, he has done it without complaint and always made me proud & amazed to be his dad!"

3. Carl is stepping into the danger zone

This week's Season 7, Episode 5, finally showed Carl stepping into his comic book role, hopping on board a truck with the plan to kill Negan.

In the comic, Carl and Negan have a weird relationship where Negan respects the "future serial killer." Comic book Carl is younger than TV Carl, but the Negan/Carl relationship was already teased last week, so it looks like they are sticking with it. However, Daryl (who is not in the comic) is already blurring the line of what they might be doing with Carl's Negan story. It's possible a big twist is in Carl's future, since Daryl and other characters could pick up more of comic Carl's story. Probably not -- since comic book writer Robert Kirkman loves Carl, and would probably fight for him to outlast even Rick on TV -- but you never know.

Also, Episode 5, "Go Getters" gave Carl and Enid sweet roller-skating and kissing scenes, and TWD does love calm-before-the-storm moments. No one is allowed to be happy for long, so was that foreshadowing? *Spoilers* showed Carl (and Enid) on set filming for the season finale, Episode 16, so they appear to live that long. But will they both return for Season 8?

The "Walking Dead" stars are now heading home, having completed Season 7 filming last week, and they probably won't return to set until mid-April 2017 for early May filming -- if Season 8 sticks with the usual schedule. So it may be a while before we learn who is definitely returning.

Are you worried for Carl, or do you think Chandler can easily balance college and TWD scenes?

13 Times Wednesday Addams Spoke Directly to Our Dark Souls

Posted:

Wednesday Addams (Christina Ricci) was an important part of our childhood, mainly because she helped shape us into the dark and twisty people we are today. We basically feel like we are an honorary Addams family member because of it.

These are the 13 times she really spoke to our black soul.

Melissa McCarthy Has 10-Page Scene in 'Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life'

Posted:

The "Gilmore Girls" revival only had Melissa McCarthy for one day, but they definitely made it a long day.

"Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" premieres this Friday, November 25 on Netlflix, and it includes a big scene for McCarthy's Sookie. It took a while to coordinate schedules to get the comedy star on board, but once she was there, it was like she had never left.

Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino talked to TVLine at the revival's premiere, and the site asked what it was like having McCarthy back on the set "shooting that scene."

Amy: "Watching her and Lauren [Graham, who plays Lorelai Gilmore] was always particular fun because the two of them are like a weird, psychotic Ethel and Lucy when they get together off camera, and they finish each other's thoughts and they have a whole physical thing that they do. It just happened. She just walked back in, everybody sort of clicked back into the way it was. She was just delightful. We had her for one day and of course we threw her, like, a 10-page scene -- 'cause, why not? We figured 'We got her for one day! Let's make it work!'"

Daniel: "She did say, 'Bring it on' when we warned her.'"

Amy: "She did say bring it, so we brought it."

Daniel: "This is partly her fault. But she just became lovable -- she was lovable Melissa, she played lovable Sookie, it was just bing, bang, boom. As if no time had gone by."

It does sound like we're only getting one Sookie scene, but it'll be a substantial and fun one. Fans can stream the four-part series the day after Thanksgiving.

Alec Baldwin Fires Back at Donald Trump in Twitter War Over 'SNL'

Posted:

Once again, Donald Trump lashed out at "Saturday Night Live" for mocking him, but this time Alec Baldwin didn't just sit back and take it. The actor tweeted some ALL-CAPS advice to our POTUS-elect, and basically promised more of the same for the next four years (at least).

Trump hosted SNL last year, but when Baldwin started playing Trump this year, the future prez tweeted that the "boring and unfunny show" should be canceled, adding, "Alec Baldwin portrayal stinks." Baldwin just retweeted Trump's dis that time, but this week he shared his own critique of Trump's complaints.

It started with SNL's (pretty scathing) November 19 cold open, with Baldwin's Trump Googling "Isis," taking a brief meeting with Jason Sudeikis's Mitt Romney, and getting updates from Kate McKinnon's Kellyanne Conway, shown to be deeply regretting her role in helping Trump win:

The Trump jokes continued during Weekend Update:

Without pointing to anything in particular, Trump reacted to the episode the next morning:
Alec Baldwin replied in force from his foundation's account:
Some fans replied that Baldwin should be the next president, and considering some of his own outbursts in the past, he may have the exact temperament to win.

The Rock Stands by 'Fast 8' Insults, Calls More Actors 'Candy Asses'

Posted:

LA Premiere of "Central Intelligence" - ArrivalsBless Dwayne Johnson for standing by his own mouth. He is not sorry for blasting some of his male "Fast 8" co-stars as "chicken sh*t" and "candy asses," even though he told the L.A. Times that Universal Pictures execs "talked" to him after his Instagram outburst. Instead of walking it back, The Rock just pointed out that it was actually a great publicity boost for "Fast 8." Heck, he may even be expecting flowers.

You read his Instagram rant back in August, and Johnson -- recently dubbed the Sexiest Man Alive -- was just asked about it in a chat with the L.A. Times. Here's that part of interview:

"I was very clear with what I said. I've been in the game a long time," he said with a knowing smile. "Would Universal have preferred that didn't happen? Sure, we talked about it. The irony is after that and as they do their tracking and all their analysis, the interest shot through the roof to a whole other level."

Yep, he's basically bragging about it. As a reminder, here's what he posted over the summer, in what was rumored but never confirmed to be in part about Vin Diesel:

"This is my final week of shooting #FastAndFurious8. There's no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one. An incredible hard working crew. UNIVERSAL has been great partners as well. My female co-stars are always amazing and I love 'em. My male co-stars however are a different story. Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don't. The ones that don't are too chicken sh*t to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I'm not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling - you're right. Bottom line is it'll play great for the movie and fits this Hobbs character that's embedded in my DNA extremely well. The producer in me is happy about this part??. Final week on FAST 8 and I'll finish strong. #IcemanCometh #F8 #ZeroToleranceForCandyAsses"

However, "candy asses" can also be a term of endearment for The Rock. Witness his recent post about filming "Jumanji," an experience he seemed to genuinely enjoy. In the Instagram video below, his co-stars jokingly call him an a**hole and tell him to kill himself and eat d*cks. In the caption, he calls them "candy asses," too:

A video posted by therock (@therock) on

"'Go kill yourself and eat d*cks' has just become one of my all time favs. Thanks Kev. 👍🏾
In a huge action sequence I'm hanging off the side of a helicopter saving the lives of my co-stars @karengillanofficial, @jackblack, @nickjonas and @kevinhart4real.. and this is the gratitude they show. For the record, I'm the one 800ft in the air being fearless while they sit on their candy asses by the monitors with their little microphones talking sh*t. The #SexiestManAlive is about go down there and knock some lungs loose. I TRULY LUV these crazy bastards and no one is having more fun on sets than us and our hard working crew. #FridayNightShinannigans #WorkHardPlayHard #OnLocation #Atlanta #Jumanji"

They're a real family! You can tell by the tone of the video and the caption that he's just goofing around with this group, and there's nothing but love. The "Fast 8" actors? Eh. Maybe not *all* love.

11 Things You Never Knew About 'The Addams Family'

Posted:

Time to feel old, everybody: "The Addams Family" was released 25 years ago this week on November 22, 1991.

The film, based on the 1964 TV show, was a hit -- and a starter pistol for Hollywood to rush their TV adaptations to the big screen. It also put its first-time director and actor Christina Ricci on the map. In honor of the comedy's 25th anniversary, here are a few things you may not know about this creepy, kooky, spooky family.
1. Orion Pictures originally developed the adaptation of the classic 1964 TV series, as they had the rights to the show at the time. But Orion was struggling financially, so Paramount stepped in with funds to complete the film and scored North America distribution, too, as a result. But Orion kept international rights, which now belong to MGM after they purchased Orion. (Everybody got all that?)

2. The film is the feature directorial debut of cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld ("Miller's Crossing"). He would go on to direct all three "Men in Black" films.
3. Sonnenfeld shot most of the film where the TV show used to shoot -- Stage 3/8 at Hollywood Center Studios in Los Angeles.

4. Angelica Houston, who plays matriarch Morticia, was surprised when she got the role. She expected the part would go to someone like Cher.
5. When Houston got the role, according to her autobiography, she "was looking for a template on which to base Morticia Addams, a key to giving this potentially cartoon character some humanity." She decided to base aspects of her performance on friend and model Jerry Hall. Houston felt that Hall's "kind, gentle disposition and utter devotion to her children would lend some warmth to Morticia's chilly, unflappable nature."

6. The final film resolves the issue of whether or not Fester is an imposter, but that was not the director's original intent. In a 2012 interview with Vulture, Sonnenfeld revealed that the principal cast did not like the idea of keeping Fester's fate ambiguous.
"Two weeks before we started shooting," the director recalled, "when we started rehearsing with all the actors, all the actors rebelled, because the movie Scott Rudin and I were going to shoot had this thing where Fester was perhaps an imposter, but you were never sure if he really was or not. But on the day we started to rehearse, and I remember this really fondly, the spokesperson that all the other actors chose to speak on their behalf was a 10-year-old Christina Ricci. And she gave this really impassioned plea that Fester shouldn't be an imposter." The director also acknowledged that his cast was right -- "it was the better way to go." (Christopher Lloyd, who played Fester, was the only actor who didn't care.)
7. Not everyone was a fan of Gomez and Fester's "Mamushka" dance number. The full version was cut from the film following -- what else? -- a test screening complaint that the bit stalled the movie's pacing.

8. On a $30 million budget, "Addams Family" was a hit -- earning $191 million at the box office. Despite being a hit that was somewhat well-received by critics, Roger Ebert gave film two out of four stars. He argued that the movie's chuckle-inducing moments "don't add up to much."
9. The film was a hit in arcades, too. The pinball machine (above) based on the movie, released in March 1992, is the bestselling pinball machine of all time.

10. Legal troubles plagued the film after its release. David Levy, producer of the original TV series, sued Paramount, claiming that elements of the film were taken from his ideas in the show -- and were not based on the Charles Addams cartoons. Levy cited Fester's lightbulb trick, the characters of Thing and Cousin Itt, and Gomez's love of toy trains among his ideas the movie borrowed. The lawsuit was later settled out of court.
11. It opened opposite some then-fierce competition: "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West" and Disney's "Beauty and the Beast." It opened in the top spot and stayed there for two weeks.

TV Worth Watching

"Search Party" (Monday on TBS at 11 p.m.)
Alia Shawkat plays Dory, who becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to her missing college acquaintance Chantal -- even though none of her other friends care -- in this new dark comedy/mystery on TBS. According to Deadline, the entire first season is airing during Thanksgiving week, with two episodes each night from 11 p.m. to midnight. It all starts November 21 with "The Mysterious Disappearance of The Girl No One Knew" and "The Woman Who Knew Too Much."

"Dancing With the Stars" (Tuesday on ABC at 9 p.m.)
This is it. The Fall 2016 Season 23 is coming to a close, and James Hinchcliffe, Laurie Hernandez, or Calvin Johnson will win the coveted Mirror Ball trophy. (Jana Kramer is also still a contender, but she seems less likely to win. But we could be wrong.) After two hours of dancing from 8 to 10 on Monday, the Finale will air from 9 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, with the finalists dancing one last time, and the winner most likely revealed around 10:57 p.m. ET.

"Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade" & "National Dog Show" (Thursday on NBC at 9 a.m.)
It's time for another great Thanksgiving Day tradition: Watching all, or at least part, of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade from 9 a.m. to noon, then chasing that with purebred shenanigans from John O'Hurley, David Frei, Tara Lipinski, Johnny Weir, and the beautiful canine stars of the 15th annual National Dog Show. Here's hoping the Komondor finally wins this year.
