Rising ‘Ip Man 3’ co-star is on ‘The Brink’ of destruction Posted: 03 Nov 2016 12:01 AM PDT Max Zhang – the rising star of The Grandmaster S.P.L. II and Ip Man 3 – is revisiting danger in The Brink, an upcoming thriller by first-time director Jonathan Li. The Brink follows a group of fishermen who smuggle gold and the cops who chase them. It’s reported that the film will feature an extensive amount of Thunderball-esque underwater action sequences. In the film, Zhang sports blonde hair, just like James Tien did in 1973’s Seaman No. 7, which also featured underwater action sequences (see trailer below). The Brink also stars Shawn Yue (Wild City), Gordon Lam (Trivisa), Janice Man (Helios), Wu Yue (From Vegas to Macau 2) and Yasuaki Kurata (Shinjuku Incident). Soi Cheang Pou Soi (Accident) will be serving as producer. Zhang has many other projects in the works, including The Man with the Dragon Tattoo, S.P.L 3: War Needs Lord, as well as an unofficial Ip Man 3 spin-off. Updates: Check out a pack of new character posters (via AFS). The Brink releases in 2017. Expect a trailer soon! |
Ready for ‘The Raid’ meets ‘Boardwalk Empire’? Posted: 02 Nov 2016 12:00 PM PDT An adaptation of Richard H. Dillon's 2012 novel, Hatchet Men: The Story of the Tong Wars, is in the works. Will Yun Lee (Four Assassins, Wolverine) will headline the film, which will be based on screenplay by Michael Thomas (Backbeat) and Morgan Duncan (Parfum Fatale). According to Deadline, Hatchet Men will follow the conflicts between rival gangs in San Francisco's Chinatown in 1890s. The story will center on Little Pete (Lee), the prominent leader of the Som Yop Tong gang, who built a criminal empire. In addition to hatchet-wielding gangsters, we can also expect some martial arts action: "Finding a world where you can bring the kinetic energy of The Raid and the texture of Boardwalk Empire is an exciting project to be a part of," Lee told Deadline. We’ll keep you updated on this project as we learn more. Until then, here’s a look at what Lee is capable of in 2012’s Four Assassins: |
