Caitlyn Jenner Will Not Be Charged With Manslaughter After Fatal Crash

Posted:

The 2015 ESPYS - ShowAfter authorities initially indicated that Caitlyn Jenner could face jail time in connection with a fatal car crash in Malibu earlier this year, the Los Angeles County District Attorney has decided not to press any charges against the reality star.

TMZ reports that the D.A.'s office revealed this week that although Jenner was the one to rear-end the car driven by 69-year-old Kim Howe -- which was then pushed into oncoming traffic, killing Howe at the scene -- there was no concrete evidence pointing to Jenner's sole blame for the February incident. A report from the D.A. obtained by TMZ stated that Jenner was traveling below the speed limit, used her brakes, and was not overly-negligent; for those reasons, the office said it "cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that [Jenner's] conduct was unreasonable," and would not be charging her with a crime.

Reports from earlier this summer suggested that Jenner could face a vehicular manslaughter charge for her role in the crash. The "I Am Cait" star could have spent a year in jail if charged and convicted.

"We believed from the start that a thorough and objective investigation would clear Caitlyn of any criminal wrongdoing," said Blair Berk, Jenner's attorney, in a statement to TMZ. "We are heartened the District Attorney has agreed that even a misdemeanor charge would not be appropriate. A traffic accident, however devastating and heartbreaking when a life is lost, is not necessarily a criminal matter."

Jenner is not out of the woods completely, however: Howe's family has filed a civil suit against Jenner, as has another driver injured in the incident. Both suits are still pending.

Jennifer Lawrence Is Not a Fan of Donald Trump

Posted:

Comic-Con International 2015 - Lionsgate Press RoomIf you think Katniss Everdeen hates President Snow, just wait until you hear Jennifer Lawrence's thoughts on Donald Trump.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly promoting the upcoming final installment in the "Hunger Games" franchise, "Mockingjay -- Part 2," stars Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth discussed Trump's presidential dreams -- and why they'd be a nightmare for the country. Lawrence was the most vocal of the trio in her criticism of the brash candidate.

"If Donald Trump becomes president, that will be the end of the world," the Oscar-winning actress told EW.

Hutcherson concurred, and said he thought that all of Trump's outlandish statements and controversy-stirring stances are probably "a publicity stunt" because they "can't be real." Lawrence agreed, adding that his campaign "might just be for entertainment," though it could also be a secret ploy by a certain Democratic hopeful.

"It's either that or it's Hillary's brilliant idea," Lawrence joked, though the actress is serious about her wariness of a President Trump. She explained to EW:

"I was watching him on the campaign trail and one guy said, 'I love Donald Trump because he's saying everything I'm thinking and I just can't say it because of the PC factor.' And I'm thinking, 'You are absolutely right. That's who I want representing my country, somebody politically incorrect. That will just be perfect.'"

No response yet from The Donald, though we think it's safe to say he'll probably be boycotting "Mockingjay."

The Hilarious Reason Kate Winslet Keeps Her Oscar in Her Bathroom

Posted:

Best Actress winner Kate Winslet poses wMost of us have probably done it at one point in time: picked up a hairbrush or shampoo bottle and given an impromptu awards acceptance speech in the bathroom mirror. Kate Winslet knows this, and that's precisely why the Oscar-winning actress chose the location where she keeps her Academy Award.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine in promotion of her new movie, "Steve Jobs," Winslet discussed other significant roles throughout her career, including the one that won her the Best Actress statuette for 2008's "The Reader." And while Winslet told the magazine that she's "super proud" of the honor, she admitted that she keeps it in her bathroom -- not in an attempt at false modesty, like some celebs, but rather to share the wealth and feed her guests' Oscar glory fantasies.

"The whole point is for everybody to pick it up and go, 'I'd like to thank my son and my dad,'" Winslet explained, "-and you can always tell when someone has, because they're in there a little bit longer after they flushed. They'll come out looking slightly pink-cheeked. It's hysterical."

And while we'd probably get a little embarrassed, too, there's no way we wouldn't grab that little gold guy if we ever had the chance to visit Winslet's house. We're just glad the actress has a sense of humor about it -- and lets her guests act out their dreams in (relative) private.

Watch the Insanely Creepy 'AHS: Hotel' Opening Credits

Posted:

ahs, ahs: hotel, hotel, american horror storyAfter lots of cryptic teasers and plenty of speculation about just what will happen on the upcoming fifth installment of "American Horror Story," we finally have our first look at the opening credits sequence from "AHS: Hotel."

Shared by "AHS" mastermind Ryan Murphy on Twitter ("Halloween Season has begun!" he announced), the intro is just as creepy as you'd expect -- even more so, if we're being honest. There are plenty of callbacks to some of the characters and imagery we saw in some of the previous teasers, including people sewn into beds, as well as those damn demonic children running around.

Something extra, though, and something that should set sleuths off, is the presence of the Ten Commandments, which flash on the screen throughout the credits. Could each commandment provide a clue into a murder that has taken place at the titular establishment -- or perhaps, ones that are about to be committed? (Judging by all the blood on display, we're guessing the latter option.)

Fans only have to wait a few more days to find out. "American Horror Story: Hotel" debuts on FX on October 7.

Free Dobby! 'Harry Potter' Fans Trying to Break Out Museum Elf

Posted:

Harry Potter DobbyHermione would be so proud.

Fans of Dobby from "Harry Potter" have been trying to free the plucky, adorable elf from his glass case at Leavesden's Warner Bros. Studio Tour Exhibit. They've been leaving their socks on the case - which, in "Harry Potter" canon, would free an elf. (Actually, any piece of clothing would do.)

Dobby is free of a master anyway, but in this case, fans are clearly hoping to break his likeness out of the case.
Seriously, how cute is that? So adorable that "Harry Potter" creator J.K. Rowling herself retweeted the photo.

Of course, the real Dobby (in the books and movie, anyway) tragically and bravely gave his life to save Harry and friends. RIP Dobby. We salute you.

9 '90s Teen Movie Douchebags, Ranked From Least to Most Douchey

Posted:

Misunderstood prom queens, geeks with the hots for biggest babe in school, mean girl posse bimbos who lack personalities...these are just some of the teen movie character cliches we see over and over. The late '90s spawned a slew of teen high school films, and there was one type that managed to be a staple of almost all of 'em: popular douchebag. He might be a rich kid, he might be a jock, he might even play acoustic guitar, but one thing's for sure -- you are not supposed to root for him.

But who is the most despicable specimen of them all? Here are 9 '90s teen movie douchebags, ranked by their levels of douchiness.

Natalie Dormer Needs to Stay on the Path in Creepy 'Forest' Trailer

Posted:

The ForestNatalie Dormer had to endure many horrors as the bride of King Joffrey in "Game of Thrones," but that's nothing compared to what she experiences in "The Forest."

The trailer for the supernatural horror flick is out, and it'll definitely give you the creeps. Dormer plays Sara, who goes to Japan's Aokigahara Forest (aka the "Suicide Forest") to look for her missing twin sister. Everyone, including guide Taylor Kinney, warns her against going in there in the first place, but especially not to stray from the path or stay overnight. But she's determined to find her sister - even if the cost is her sanity.
"The Forest" looks like it holds plenty of spine-tingling, gasp-inducing scares and thrills, though the trailer itself is a little cliched. For instance, there's the requisite shower scene, with a menacing figure standing outside the fogged-up glass. Still, Dormer is an awesome actress, and we're glad to see her headlining her own movie.

"The Forest" opens in theaters January 8.

New 'Jessica Jones' Trailer Gives Her a Bad Reputation

Posted:

Jessica Jones"Jessica Jones" doesn't care if she's got a bad reputation.

Netflix has released a new, under-minute teaser for their upcoming Marvel drama, and it's as tantalizing as the first. We never get to see Jessica's (Krysten Ritter) face, but we certainly get a sense of her personality as she cues up Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation" on the jukebox. Then, she picks her way carefully through the remains of a big bar fight - other patrons knocked out or trying (and failing) to get at her.

So, what we know: 1) Jessica likes to drink, and 2) She can brawl. Our kind of girl!

Other than that, we know that Jessica is a former superhero who has given up her powers to open a supernatural detective agency. Mike Colter stars as Luke Cage (before going off to his own Netflix series), David Tennant as the villain Kilgrave, Rachael Taylor as BFF Patsy, and Carrie-Anne Moss as as the powerful Harper.

All 13 episodes of "Jessica Jones" will be available to stream on Netflix on November 20.

Every David Fincher Film, Ranked From Worst to Best

Posted:

It's been five years since the release of "The Social Network" (on October 1, 2010), and it still feels like David Fincher was robbed of the Oscar.

His account of the birth pangs of Facebook was a movie about the way we live now, structured in a way that suited its cautionary tale about the elusiveness of truth in a system overstuffed with information. At the Academy Awards, however, Fincher's film went up for Best Picture against "The King's Speech," a perfectly good but thoroughly conventional Oscar-bait movie (British period costume drama, World War II setting, protagonist who triumphs despite a handicap) and lost.

For all the popularity of his movies, Fincher seems doomed to being seen as ahead of his time. His films seem to recognize that we're drowning in more information than we can handle, and he seems bent on forging a visual style and editing rhythm that will help rewire our brains to handle the overload. In honor of the film's fifth anniversary, here's a ranking of every Fincher movie.

Best of Late Night TV: Big Questions With Tom Hanks, How Kunal Nayyar Lost His Virginity

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Here's Stephen Colbert contemplating the mysteries of the universe alongside Tom Hanks in a "Late Show" segment called "Big Questions with Even Bigger Stars." It's like a hilarious midnight picnic with Forrest Gump. The audience cheered for Tom for so long it kinda cut the segment short, but they still spent a lot of time asking deep questions and giving silly answers. For example, they tackled big Qs like "Why do bad things happen to good people?" and "What would you do with a time machine"? It's great. A Hitler-killing baby is involved. Stephen Colbert + John Oliver = Where's Jon Stewart? 'Cause he would complete the trifecta. John got bleeped, saying he doesn't give a toot about Donald Trump right now. But he can't vote anyway, so... After his appearance, John Oliver left a funny video guest book message for Stephen Colbert, offering some tips on the show. "Late Show" guests Bill Withers and Ed Sheeran sat side-by-side and shared something in common: they both had stutters. The best part came after Ed listed all of his medical issues growing up: "The reason I became a musician is God looked down and said 'You probably need some help getting laid.'" The audience cheered. Bill's response: "That's what you call going from ginger to a ginger snap." Ken Jeong of "Dr. Ken" was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," talking about being a doctor who became an actor, and he did his Korean Johnny Carson impression: Seth Meyers got semi-serious over on "Late Night," taking a closer look at Planned Parenthood and the recent Republican congressional attacks. Good work, man. This is what Seth does best, to be honest. He's in his element when he's mostly "The Daily Show." Over on the "Late Late Show with James Corden," Patricia Arquette, Matt Walsh, Jeremy Irvine discussed sex scene experiences. Which sock do you pick? Quite a dilemma. If you're curious about how "The Big Bang Theory" star Kunal Nayyar lost his virginity, he wrote about it in his book and told the story on "Conan." He was 19, it was anticlimactic and, the next morning, he called the girl the wrong name: On "The Tonight Show," Bravo honcho Andy Cohen offered a guide to Twitter. "We are all just one tweet away from getting fired. Think before you tweet." He also recently insulted Tori Spelling after she was burned, and then accidentally insulted her again when they e-mailed each other. Think before you e-mail too.
Last but not least, here's the beautiful Julianna Margulies drowning in sexual innuendo (grease of the cock?!) when explaining a magazine shoot in the south of France. She's all wet!
