New on DVD/Blu-ray: 'The Gift,' 'Pixels,' and 'Southpaw' Head Home Posted: 30 Oct 2015 08:00 PM PDT A truly twisted little thriller The Gift: It seems we are officially riding a new wave of great Hollywood thrillers made specifically for adults. That being the case, The Gift is kind of like the weird family friend to the likes of Gone Girl, Creep and Prisoners. If all those movies got together at a dinner party, everyone would look at The Gift with a bit of "Yeah, something's not quite right with that one" side eye. Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall star as a couple whose upper crust life gets infiltrated by a chance encounter with an old childhood friend, played perfectly by Joel Edgerton, who also wrote and directed this odd little gem. It's kind of like a home invasion movie, only in total slow motion with each character slowly realizing that trust is such a... 'By the Sea' Trailer: Watch Angelina Jolie Kick Brad Pitt to the Curb Posted: 30 Oct 2015 07:00 PM PDT You can kick a little harder when you're married to your costar in real life, according to this amusing gif from the new trailer for By the Sea. The film -- starring real-life lovers Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt as a severely dysfunctional married couple vacationing in 1970s France -- is keeping much of its story (and dialogue) under wraps so far, and instead serving up these deliciously moody previews full of grand music cues and lots of unhappiness between its two stars. Check it out below. By the Sea hits theaters on November 13, and it's a lot different from the last movie that starred the pair, 2007's Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Jolie, fresh off back-to-back directorial efforts with the smaller In the Land of Blood and Honey and the bigger awards-friendly... Comics on Film: The 10 Best Batmobiles Posted: 30 Oct 2015 06:00 PM PDT It's arguably the most iconic weapon in the Dark Knight's arsenal, and he's used it for most of the last 75 years to assist in his never-ending war on crime, as well as simply to get him from point-A to point-B in Gotham City. Along with Batman's emergence as a prominent figure in popular culture, the allure surrounding his powerful, unique, and unmistakable conveyance was with him as well: the Batmobile. This year, Warner Brothers and Rocksteady Studios released a highly acclaimed video game experience called Batman: Arkham Knight, which allowed players to get behind the wheel of one of the most powerful versions of the Batmobile ever realized. Since the car is such a central element of the whole Batman experience, the... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Ten Perfect Pumpkins in Movies Posted: 30 Oct 2015 04:55 PM PDT If there’s one single item that represents Halloween better than any other, it would probably be the pumpkin. That glorious orange gourd-like squash is the perfect symbol for the year’s most fun holiday. It’s brightly colored, grows in some wacky, unpredictable shapes, and looks badass all cut up with a candle inside. Over the past few decades, there have been some great movie pumpkins and we’ve collected ten of the best here. Feel free to let us know your favorite movie pumpkin in the comments. What better way to start talking about the quintessential Halloween item than by talking about the quintessential Halloween movie? One of the most iconic Halloween films (arguably the most iconic) originally aired on CBS in 1966 and quickly became an annual tradition... Sandra Bullock Rumored for All-Female 'Ocean's Eleven' Remake Posted: 30 Oct 2015 01:30 PM PDT A new version of Ocean's Eleven is on its way, reportedly with Sandra Bullock ready to lead an all-female cast, according to The Playlist. Academy Award-nominated Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) is in line to direct. The project was hatched in late 2014 by George Clooney, director Steven Soderbergh, and producer Jerry Weintraub, who worked together on 2001's Ocean's Eleven and its two sequels, Ocean's Twelve (2004) and Ocean's Thirteen (2007). The origins of the series date back to 1960, when Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. led the so-called "Rat Pack," including Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop, in a lighthearted criminal adventure. The 21st century trilogy featured Clooney and Brad Pitt leading a new gang of criminals... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Movie News: 'Alien 5' Is On Hold; 'Bad Santa 2' To Arrive Next Holiday Season Posted: 30 Oct 2015 12:00 PM PDT Alien 5: Back in August, we heard that director Neill Blomkamp's Alien sequel (concept art above) might have to wait for release until after Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel -- later titled Alien: Paradise Lost -- hit theaters in 2017. Scott also suggested that one or two more installments might be on the way before his prequels connected with the existing Alien series. Now Blomkamp says that his Alien "is kinda holding," pending what happens with Alien: Paradise Lost. In the meantime, he'll be working on other projects. [Twitter] Bad Santa 2: Billy Bob Thornton is confirmed to return in a sequel to 2003's Bad Santa. Thornton will reprise his role as a con artist who dresses up as Santa Claus to help pull off his scams. The dark comedy will...
