Watch Ryan Reynolds Behind-the-Scenes of 'Moving' Seal Hunt Documentary Posted: Ryan Reynolds is practically perfect in every way, so it's no surprise to hear the "Deadpool" actor who regularly wins Twitter can also get serious for an important documentary about seal hunting. Ryan provided voice-over narration for "Huntwatch," which will have its world premiere at DOC NYC on November 14. In the behind-the-scenes video below, you can see portions of the documentary and hear Ryan's take on the "incredible" 90-minute film, which follows the 50-year battle for baby seals on the ice floes of Canada. "This is a film I think unlike any other," Ryan said. "Like any good documentary, it really examines both sides of the issue in a way that is incredibly thoughtful and, I guess it's safe to say, moving as well." Here's the behind-the-scenes clip: Huntwatch BTS - Ryan Reynolds Narration Recording Session from Huntwatch on Vimeo. "Huntwatch" director Brant Backlund echoed that the doc aims to show multiple perspectives on the debate, as opposed to just sharing one side. "The Canadian seal hunt is a very intense and complicated issue," he said, in a press release. "From the get-go, my goal was to tell an honest story bringing both sides of this conflict to life. We were really excited to have Ryan Reynolds on board because as a Canadian he brings an authentic voice to the film." Here's a description of the movie on the "Huntwatch" site: We'll have to stay tuned to see where the documentary goes next, after the world premiere at DOC NYC. You can get more details on the official site, which also posted a harrowing trailer. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Big News for 'Power Rangers' Movie and TV Series (Netflix Move?) Posted: Today is an interesting day for "Power Rangers" fans. Collider just announced a big change for the TV series (in 2017) and the Yellow Ranger was just cast for the movie (which is also coming out in 2017). The movie was going to come out next summer, but got pushed back a year. Here are a lot more details on the movie's cast and characters. What do you think about the new movie casting and (still just rumored, for now) series move to Netflix? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Poor 'Pan,' Even China Is Rejecting it at the Box Office Posted: Peter Pan can fly but, sadly, he can also flop. "Pan" got no love in its domestic debut, and bad luck in the timing of its China release probably contributed to its lack of success there, too. As The Hollywood Reporter noted in its breakdown of what went wrong, Warner Bros. producers must've hoped that China -- the world's second largest film market -- would bail out the underforming "Pan," but instead it had one of the worst studio launches of all time. Here are some details from THR: Eek. What happened? Well, China didn't really care for the movie anymore than we did. Foreign audiences gave the movie mostly meh reviews, so that didn't help build interest. But "Terminator Genisys" didn't have great reviews either and it got a big boost in China. That's where the bad timing comes in. "Pan" was released in China amid a sea of similarly targeted foreign films. As THR noted, when "Terminator" opened in late August, it had the boost of being the only Hollywood movie in the market at the time, "right after the long summer blackout period when Chinese film regulators keep Hollywood titles out and give domestically produced films an uncontested run for peak moviegoing weeks." "Terminator" benefited from good timing and the ensuing demand for Hollywood blockbusters. "Pan" didn't have the same release luck, and fell behind "Ant-Man," "Detective Conan," and "The Little Prince." It's a tough pill to swallow, and has to be disappointing for everyone who worked so hard on the film. But we still love you, Hugh Jackman, never doubt it! Want more stuff like this? 5 Things to Expect From Starz's 'Ash vs. Evil Dead' Posted: It's been several decades since Bruce Campbell last kicked ass and chewed bubble gum, but all that will change on Saturday with the premiere of Starz's new horror-comedy series "Ash vs. Evil Dead." Thirty years after first stumbling across the Necronomicon and awaking something evil in the woods, the snarky, sex-crazed demon hunter is back in business. He's much older and worse for the wear, of course, but none of that will stop him from fighting the good fight (and bedding any distressed damsel he can find). Moviefone screened the first few episodes of the new series, which we think may appeal to lifelong fans of the franchise and newer audiences alike. Here are five spoiler-free things to expect from the Halloween premiere: 1. Bruce Is Back and Groovier Than Ever Bruce Campbell isn't just this show's titular hero and top-billed executive producer; he's the heart and soul of the entire "Evil Dead" franchise. So, for this new Starz series to have any chance of succeeding, he will have to knock it out of the park on a weekly basis. That's no easy feat for any actor, let alone one who's pushing 60 and hasn't played an action hero in several decades. Thankfully (if not miraculously), Bruce pulls it off. His quips are perfectly timed and his stunts are believable - he plays the funny, fearless scoundrel to perfection. Has he aged? Sure, but that's a large part of the show's charm. Yes, Bruce is back and he's groovier than ever. 2. Perfect Blend of Horror and Humor Contrary to popular belief, hilarity and horror aren't mutually exclusive. A lot of horror offerings try to be funny (and vice versa), but rarely does a film or movie succeed on both fronts. Well, "Ash vs. Evil Dead" is the exception to the rule. The show is funny -- really funny -- and it has plenty of legitimately frightening moments. For example, when Ash spanks a woman with his wooden hand while making puns, you're probably going to laugh. But when she turns around and shows him her demon face (and screams "I'm coming... TO GET YOU!"), it's genuinely creepy. 3. Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n' Roll Motif The world has changed since Sam Raimi made the first "Evil Dead" in 1981, but Ash most certainly has not. From the opening scenes of "Ash vs. Evil Dead," it's clear our atypical hero's only motivations are getting laid, getting drunk and/or high, and doing it all to Deep Purple's "Space Truckin.'" You'd think an undead invasion would bring about a shift in priorities -- especially after we learn his excessive partying might actually have caused the evil dead to return -- but you'd be wrong. Ash is and will always be Ash. 4. Badass Women One way in which "Ash vs. Evil Dead" surpasses its cinematic predecessors is in its portrayal of strong women. The "Evil Dead" films were centered a demon-slaying chauvinist (however endearing), so it was smart of Starz to bring aboard a few tough females who can more than hold their own. There is Amanda ("Sleepy Hollow's" Jill Marie Jones), a cop who is confronted with "deadites" early on and doesn't hesitate to pump them full of lead; Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo), one of Ash's ValueStop co-workers who nearly breaks his wrist after he tries hitting on her; and then there's a mysterious woman named Ruby, played by the Warrior Princess herself, Lucy Lawless. 5. Meta-Humor and Self-Awareness "Ash vs. Evil Dead" isn't "Mad Men" or "The Wire" and doesn't try to be. The Starz series knows it's the sequel to a few dusty old cult films about a demon hunter with a chainsaw for a hand, and it's never afraid to poke fun at itself. Whereas the heroes of most action-filled offerings are blessed with great strength or intellect, "Ash vs. Evil Dead" makes a running joke of Ash's lack of wisdom and poor physique. He was no world-class athlete even his evil-slaying prime, after all, so it makes sense that, now, after decades of unhealthy living, he's barely able to muster up enough stamina for sex in a bar bathroom. "Ash vs. Evil Dead" premieres Halloween night on Starz at 9 p.m. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Will the 'Game of Thrones' Season 6 Premiere Be Delayed? Posted: Winter is coming, and then spring, but how long into the spring will we have to wait for "Game of Thrones" Season 6? At this point, everyone is still very Jon Snow about the premiere date -- aka, we know nothing -- but yesterday, HBO announced a bunch of spring 2016 start dates, and it led to some troubling speculation about GoT's return. Every past season of "Game of Thrones" has launched its 10 episodes in early-or-mid April or the end of March. That may still be the case, but Entertainment Weekly got us all nervous when they surmised that HBO's newly announced dates for "Vinyl," "Girls" and "Togetherness" mean GoT will probably return later than we expected. Here's how they put it: But slow down! Many fans are still thinking GoT will premiere April 17, 2016. As one put it, "Vinyl will wrap up its first season on April 10 cause it's two-hour premiere on February 14. So Game of Thrones will premiere on April 17." EW wasn't ready to buy the April 17 argument but -- if it's true -- then not only is it not a delay, it's the same exact premiere date as Season 1! However, the idea of a "delayed" Season 6 got some fans thinking maybe HBO was waiting for author George R.R. Martin to finish the next book, "The Winds of Winter," and maybe The Powers That Be want to start the new season after the book comes out. That's probably wishful thinking -- although we wouldn't say no to Book 6 arriving in 2016 -- and it's most likely that Season 6 will premiere in late April, either April 17 or maybe April 24, which would be later than past seasons but not exactly a huge difference. Fans are just very impatient to learn the fate of Jon Snow, not to mention Myrcella and others who may or may not be dead or on the way to dead or on the way to being less dead than before. (The whole season could easily turn into a Monty Python sketch.) Do you have a theory on the GoT premiere date or will you just wait and see if it's still April or even May or ... summer? 'Star Wars': There's a 'Very Good Reason' Why Luke Isn't on Poster Posted: The Force is strong with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and maybe it was too strong to be contained in the "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" poster or the new trailer. Fans immediately noticed that the hero of the original trilogy was nowhere to be found in the most recently released material. The Associated Press asked director JJ Abrams if there was a reason for the lack of Luke in the trailer and poster. "It's no accident," Abrams said, adding, "These are good questions to be asking. I can't wait for you to find out the answers." So vague! Harrison Ford (Han Solo) was no better last night on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," although -- scratch that -- everything is better when said from a hot dog costume. Ford even managed to stay deadpan in his costume, telling Jimmy, "there's a very good reason," why Luke is missing from the poster. He wouldn't share the reason, but he did praise the "phenomenal" new cast members and JJ Abrams, and said of the movie, "It's really, really good. ... You will not be disappointed at all, I promise." Harrison Ford is not exactly one to gush, so if he said it, he probably meant it. Here's his interview: All answers will arrive on December 18, but you probably have a theory on why Luke is missing (or appears to be missing?) from the promo material, so what's your take? Shocker! 'The Walking Dead' Renewed for Season 7 Posted: That "shocker" comes with free sarcasm, of course, since AMC needs "The Walking Dead" franchise like Daryl Dixon needs his crossbow. AMC just announced that it renewed both "The Walking Dead" and its post-show therapy session, "Talking Dead," for the 2016-2017 season. That's Season 7 for TWD, which has been sticking with a mid-October to late March/early April schedule of 16 episodes (with a midseason break from early December to early February) since Season 3. It sounds like showrunner Scott M. Gimple, the series's third showrunner, is keeping his gig for Season 7 and, probably, beyond. Back when they were still filming Season 5, comic book writer/executive producer Robert Kirkman talked about Season 7 (and the comic) to Entertainment Weekly Radio: Well, his prayers were answered on that front. He may have randomly said Season 7, or already knew that Season 6 was a go so he just said the next one, or could that perhaps be when a certain Negan shows up and he's particularly excited for that storyline? Anyway, here's a quote from Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios, in AMC's press release announcing the renewals: Expect Season 7 to premiere in early-to-mid October, as usual. Congrats, TWD Family! Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Once Upon a Time': Hercules, Megara, Hades, Cora, and 'Departed' Souls Ahead? Posted: Make room in the mythology, dearies, 'cause it sounds like "Once Upon a Time" Season 5 is really going under -- to the Underworld -- and probably introducing the main players of Disney's 1997 movie "Hercules." You may have already heard that the second half of the season was described as "hell," and a new "Distinguished Gentleman" is being cast, leading some to think a character could die and be sent to the Underworld, led by a version of the devil, aka Hades. There are a lot of relatively new hints leading to a yes on that front. Let's start with this new spoiler from TVLine, in answer to a "hell" question: Those descriptions sound like Hercules and Megara, aka Meg, right? We're not likely to see them until the second half of the season, but let's throw this into the fire too, from the new Entertainment Weekly spoiler roundup: Plenty of fans have suspected that someone will have to die, with a few pointing out that the title of the midseason finale is "Swan Song." Horowitz just recently spoiled the name of the 2016 midseason premiere episode, which certainly hints to death: That 100th episode is also when Cora (Barbara Hershey) is returning, EW said, and since we last saw her dead, maybe we'll see her dead again in "hell." So death is probably coming, plus trips to the Underworld and (hopefully) some time with Hades (please be as awesome as James Woods!), Herc and Meg. You excited? Want more stuff like this? Carrie Fisher Warns 'Force Awakens' Star Daisy Ridley: 'Don't Be a Slave' Posted: Carrie Fisher became an international superstar thanks to her role in the "Star Wars" series, but has found her role as a sex symbol a harder one to play ever since she donned that infamous gold bikini in "Return of the Jedi." In a new story for Interview magazine in which she speaks to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" fresh face Daisy Ridley, Fisher warns the young actress to avoid a similar fate as she continues in the series. In the interview, Fisher and Ridley chat about "Star Wars" fever, and how Ridley is preparing herself for her soon-to-skyrocket stardom. While Ridley demurred when Fisher told the young actress that moviegoers would soon be fantasizing about her, the woman behind Princess Leia offered Ridley some sage advice about her costuming. "[Y]ou should fight for your outfit. Don't be a slave like I was," Fisher told Ridley, referring to her scenes as Jabba the Hutt's scantily-clad prisoner in "Jedi." "All right, I'll fight," Ridley replied. "You keep fighting against that slave outfit," Fisher continued. "I will," Ridley promised. We're glad that Fisher is around to give the young actress pointers, and we're hopeful that it will be Rey's badass action skills that get fans talking, not any questionable clothing that's foisted upon the character. Ridley seemed grateful for that advice, giving some love right back to Fisher. "[Y]ou're a kick-ass woman," Ridley told Fisher. "... You paved the way for all the girls." We couldn't agree more. Billy Bob Thornton Returning for 'Bad Santa 2' in 2016 Posted: "Bad Santa" fans who have been waiting over a decade for a sequel will finally get their Christmas wish next year: Billy Bob Thornton has been confirmed to reprise his role for "Bad Santa 2." The long-awaited follow-up to the foul-mouthed 2003 dark comedy has officially gotten the green light, and will once again feature Thornton as Willie, a curmudgeonly conman and part-time mall Santa who schemes to rob department stores on Christmas Eve along with his elf sidekick (Tony Cox). The duo is thwarted thanks to a lonesome kid (Brett Kelly) who takes an interest in Willie, and a suspicious mall cop (Bernie Mac); Lauren Graham also co-stars as a bartender with a Santa fetish. Deadline reports that the sequel has been in the works since 2012, and director Steve Pink was attached to helm at that time. It's not clear yet if Pink is still in the cards, or if someone else will step in to direct this new flick, which was written by Doug Ellin, Shauna Cross, John Phillips, and Johnny Rosenthal. Also no word yet on an official synopsis. Production is expected to get underway in Montreal in January 2016, and "Bad Santa 2" is due in theaters sometime during the 2016 holiday season. 21 Frightening TV Episodes You Can Watch on Netflix Right Now Posted: Netflix isn't just for chilling... it's also for chilling, as in scaring yourself silly. Here are some of the scariest episodes of our favorite shows featuring creepy clowns, headless witches, bloodthirsty ghosts, serial killers, and spooky hitch-hikers. Many of these work great as standalone eps, such as "Supernatural," "The X-Files," and "Bones," and of course, the classic "Twilight Zone." Others, like "The Walking Dead," are better off experienced as a terrifying whole. You've got enough time this Halloween to stream all of these 21 episodes, especially since several might keep you up all night. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Sandra Bullock to Lead an All-Female 'Ocean's Eleven' Flick: Report Posted: While we generally feel a bit of malaise any time Hollywood announces a new reboot, we have to say that this one sounds pretty awesome: Sandra Bullock is reportedly set to play the lead in a new, all-female "Ocean's Eleven" flick. The Playlist reports that this film is inspired by the George Clooney-starring trilogy from the early 2000s (a reboot itself of the original 1960 Rat Pack version), and Bullock will step into Clooney's ringleader role, this time heading up a team of women. No concrete plot has been revealed just yet, though according to The Playlist, a draft from screenwriter Olivia Milch ("Queen & Country," "Little Women") has already been delivered. "It's unclear how directly connected (or not) this remake/reboot/sequel/spinoff will be to the [Steven] Soderbergh pictures," The Playlist reports, "but everyone is keen on this new 'Ocean's' project, and sources tell us Clooney may even cameo as Danny Ocean." The project -- which has apparently been in the works since fall 2014, per The Playlist -- came about in part thanks to Bullock's recent collaboration with Clooney on "Our Brand Is Crisis," which was originally to have starred the actor (he serves as a producer on the flick). Instead, Bullock -- who's remained close with Clooney since they worked together in "Gravity" -- took his place, gender-swapping the role, and that seems to be (partially) the inspiration for this new film. Director Gary Ross ("The Hunger Games," "Seabiscuit," "Pleasantville") is also reportedly attached to the movie. Sounds like a pretty winning creative team. Our fingers are crossed that this one pans out. Stay tuned. [via: The Playlist] Photo credit: Getty Images This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Sandra Bullock Facts: 9 Things You (Probably) Didn't Know About the 'Our Brand is Crisis' Star Posted: Sandra Bullock is essentially the queen of romantic comedies, and we love her for it. She's spicing up her roles, genre-wise, with her new movie "Our Brand Is Crisis," and we're excited to see it. Even though she's been in the spotlight since the late '80s, it's likely that you still don't know everything there is to know about her. These are the nine facts you might not know about Sandra Bullock. [Source: IMDB] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Here Are the Deadshot and Harley Quinn Empire Covers for 'Suicide Squad' Posted: Empire magazine has continued its rollout of "Suicide Squad" character covers, with Will Smith's Deadshot and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn the next to get their turn in the spotlight. Director David Ayer shared the covers on his Twitter page this week, and the images don't disappoint. Ayer dubs Deadshot "The man who never misses," and as Smith stares us down, it's hard to disagree with that assessment. The actor's intense gaze, badass suit of armor, and giant weapon strike an imposing figure, even more so when we see he exudes confidence and steadiness amid a fiery, chaotic scene in the background. Robbie's cover takes a lighter approach, though of course, fans know there's a sinister character lurking underneath her candy-coated exterior. She carries a large bat and wields a handgun gun, her arms covered in spiked bracelets; though she's sporting a wide smile, the streaked mascara and jailhouse setting suggest that this "Daddy's Lil' Monster" -- as her shirt proclaims -- isn't here to play nice. Ayer has already proclaimed that the flick will be what he dubs "Comic Book Movie 2.0," and these covers certainly seem to reflect that. Audiences can judge for themselves when "Suicide Squad" hits theaters on August 5, 2016.[via: David Ayer, David Ayer] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
10 Best Robert Zemeckis Movies, Ranked Posted: The 30th anniversary of "Back to the Future" suggests the question: Is director Robert Zemeckis more Marty McFly or more Doc Brown? Like both characters, he's all about solving puzzles. The characters in his movies almost always have tricky problems that require complex solutions. Like Doc, Zemeckis often finds cutting-edge technical solutions for the special effects challenges of his own storytelling, from the early CGI on "Back to the Future Part II" and "Forrest Gump" to the motion-capture animation of many of his recent films. And like Marty, he finds a way to make those complicated solutions relatable to everyone. The result has been a four-decade career full of populist blockbusters that also awe critics. Here are the must-see movies that define that career. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
9 Horror Movie Sequels That Are Surprisingly Not Terrible Posted: The only thing harder to get right than an original horror movie is the sequel to it. For every "Aliens" or "Evil Dead 2," there's a "Jason Takes Manhattan" or (shudder) "Leprechaun 4: In Space." But sometimes, the Movie Gods smile upon us and give us something worth our hard-earned allowance money. With Halloween 'round the corner, here are 9 scary movie sequels that don't disappoint. Best of Late Night TV: Will Forte's Beard Test and Harrison Ford's Halloween Costume Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. Halloween is upon us, and Jimmy Kimmel won the day by wearing a Princess Leia costume - side buns and all. BUT WAIT: Harrison Ford also showed up, and instead of wearing a Han Solo costume, he dressed up as a giant Hot Dog. Obsessed. Over on "Late Night," Sean Diddy Combs (or as you might remember him, Puff Daddy) talked about the time he fell at the BET Awards, and he was surprisingly hilarious. In conclusion, Sean Diddy Combs is our new favorite person. So what hijinks did the folks on "The Tonight Show" get up to? Will Forte showed up, had an anxiety attack about "fecal matter" living in his beard, got said beard tested, and then leaned on Jon Hamm for support during these trying times. (Also, he tested positive for a bacteria most commonly found in dirty sneakers...the horror.) Finally, and most hilariously, Andy Richter revealed his job moonlighting as a "Pumpkin Agent," a man who gets pumpkins into the biz during October. But how does he deal with client crisis like pumpkin suicide and pumpkin overdose? Watch below. (Oh, also real quick, Seth MacFarlane crooned a song on "Late Show" and it was actually really good.)
