'Spectre' Already Broke Box Office Records in the U.K. Posted: James Bond fans in the United States still have to wait more than a week for the premiere of "Spectre," but based on its performance so far at the United Kingdom box office, it will be well worth it. "Spectre" has already crushed a couple key box office records abroad, besting the all-time ticketing tallies for both Tuesday and Wednesday showings in the U.K. On Tuesday, the flick bagged a whopping $9.2 million at only 647 locations. The film followed that with a Wednesday take of $8.8 million. Those figures put "Spectre" on track to easily beat "Skyfall"'s 2012 bow at the U.K. box office, with the former film currently gunning to overtake the latter's opening weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) haul of $32.4 million. The jury's still out, though, on whether "Spectre" can also surpass that "Skyfall"'s total U.K. haul of £103 million (approximately $157 million), which earned it the status of the highest-grossing movie of all time across the pond. Only time will tell how that overseas success will translate to American audiences, but it bodes well for Bond and co. that his countrymen are already going gaga for the flick. Maybe Sony will want to try to convince Daniel Craig to stick around for a while after all. "Spectre" opens in the U.S. on November 6. These 'Hocus Pocus' Cast Memories Will Give You Serious Nostalgia Posted: Not a Halloween goes by without fans clamoring for a sequel to beloved cult classic "Hocus Pocus," which turns 22 this year. And while a follow-up seems about as dead as the Sanderson Sisters at the end of the flick, there are still plenty of new memories for the movie's cast to share. In an interview with E! News, three members of the 1993 film's ensemble offered up their recollections about their time on set, ranging from the real-life friendliness of the women playing the witches to their amazement at the film's continuing popularity all these years later. Vinessa Shaw, who played Allison, the love interest of Max (Omri Katz), told E! that she and Thora Birch (who played Max's little sister, Dani) had tons of fun on the Disney lot, running around and singing songs, and getting into trouble with the young stars of "Home Improvement," which was shooting nearby. "I'd talk with Sarah Jessica Parker and she'd ask me if I really loved what I did as an actress," Shaw, who was 16 at the time of filming, told E!. "She'd say 'It's a wonderful job if you love it.' So, she was just very sweet and curious and made me feel really comfortable." For her part, Birch told E! that one of the most memorable moments of filming for her was dealing with both the real and fake versions of the film's anthropomorphic cat, Benjamin. "You never knew what would happen," Birch recalled of working with both live an animatronic felines. Doug Jones, who played Billy (the zombie with his mouth sewn shut), compared "Hocus Pocus" to another classic film. "It's become 'The Wizard of Oz' for Halloween," Jones told E!. "I had no idea that we'd have kids outside of our original audience becoming fans in 2015, but it has been such a sweet blessing." Shaw agreed. "I don't think any of us had any idea of the magnitude of how popular it would be 'til this day," the actress said. "It just goes to show that when you are young you watch things over and over again and it gets in your head, and just sticks." For more from the cast, check out the full interview over at E!. David Ayer Says 'Suicide Squad' Is 'Comic Book Movie 2.0' Posted: It's been promised time and time again that "Suicide Squad" will be a different breed of comic book movie, and now, director David Ayer is doubling down on that oath in a new interview. While speaking to Empire (as transcribed by Comic Book Movie), Ayer discussed the unconventional path that his flick will follow, and how it's truly unlike other superhero -- and supervillain -- movies we've seen on the big screen before. "You know, all these movies are about defeating the evil alien robot from f--king Planet X, before it destroys the world with its ticking clock. And who the f--k cares?" Ayer told Empire. "But you do this story about struggle and isolation and people who have been s--t on that suddenly get thrown this lifeline... that's not so bad... I like to think of this as the Comic Book Movie 2.0." We agree that focusing on (and humanizing) the villain side of the equation is a unique approach, and based on the footage that we've seen so far, "Suicide Squad" certainly looks like nothing else that's been onscreen before. And while the flick will indeed be different, according to filmmakers, it also has a significant place in DC's upcoming Justice League film plan, earning its spot alongside other comic book greats. "It had this darkness and edge, while still tonally in the zone of what we're trying to do with these movies," producer Charles Roven told Empire. We can't wait to see how it all comes together. "Suicide Squad" is due in theaters on August 5, 2016. [via: Empire, h/t Comic Book Movie] Photo credit: YouTube This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Casts Pom Klementieff in Key Role Posted: There hasn't been much news yet about the plot for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" (other than its awesome title choice), but now, news has broken that the flick just cast someone in a mysterious new role. The Hollywood Reporter writes that actress Pom Klementieff has nabbed what the trade describes as "one of the new key roles" in the follow-up, though of course, just what Klementieff's part will entail was not divulged. According to THR, "Marvel conducted a wide search for its mystery part, which called for an Asian actress, and did several rounds of chemistry reads." Klementieff is a relative unknown to American audiences, landing her first English-language role in Spike Lee's "Oldboy" remake back in 2013. The Quebec native and France resident has previously appeared in a number of French-speaking films. Just how she'll factor in with the rest of the ensemble is yet to be determined, but we're excited to see her (hopefully) interact with returning "Guardians of the Galaxy" stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is due in theaters on May 5, 2017. 5 Things You Need to Know Before You See 'Spectre' Posted: It's been three years since James Bond last blew our minds with "Skyfall." Now, director Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig are back with "Spectre," the 24th entry in the 007 franchise. This new mission might just be Bond's toughest -- and most personal -- yet, as he travels the globe and takes on the organization of super-secret villains known as SPECTRE. To help you prepare for this huge sequel, here's a breakdown of the five things you need to know to get the full Bond experience. 1. Bond Is On the Run As self-absorbed and headstrong as James Bond is, it shouldn't come as any great shock that the elite secret agent is at odds with his bosses in this new sequel. After receiving a message from his past, 007 goes off the grid (shocker) to Mexico City, in search of SPECTRE. And with MI-6 under turmoil by politicians trying to revamp the organization, no one is happy to see Bond taking matters into his own hands and going rogue. Look for Bond's travels to take him to everywhere from Italy to Morocco in this sequel. 2. It Brings Bond Back to His Roots "Spectre" will continue "Skyfall's" trend of bringing classic, '60s-era Bond elements back into play. Not only does Bond have Miss Moneypenny and Q backing him up, he'll be dealing with the rise of the classic organization of villains known as SPECTRE. This shadowy group was last seen in 1971's "Diamonds are Forever." Even an early trailer for the film featured a version of composer John Barry's theme from 1969's "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." There's also a callback to the white dinner jacket (pictured) that Bond hasn't worn since the Roger Moore-era. Hopefully all of this means that "Spectre" will appeal as much to fans of the Sean Connery Bond era as the current incarnation. 3. Bond's Haunted by His Past The Bond franchise has never been overly concerned about maintaining continuity between films. However, "Spectre" will draw on plot points from Craig's previous three films. Jesper Christensen's Mr. White (previously seen in "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace") will return as the film explores the connections between the Quantum organization and Spectre. Bond himself will be driven by his failure to protect Judi Dench's M in the climax of "Skyfall." Also look for this sequel to shed more light on Bond's mysterious, tragic past that lead him to be an orphan. 4. This Time... It's Personal (Especially for the Villain) Look for Bond to be squaring off against several foes this time around, of both the physical and political variety. Two-time Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz will play Franz Oberhauser, a high-ranking SPECTRE member who claims to have close ties to Bond. Dave Bautista ("Guardians of the Galaxy") will play Mr. Hinx, a skilled assassin in the tradition of villains like Jaws and Oddjob. And Andrew Scott ("Sherlock") will play Max Denbigh, a British government official with plans to radically change the scope and purpose of the new M's intelligence organization. 5. James Bond Will Return... But What About Daniel Craig? Nothing has been confirmed yet, but "Spectre" could very well be Daniel Craig's final bow as 007. The actor hasn't been shy in recent interviews about voicing his weariness with the franchise, even going so far as to tell Time Out Magazine, "I'd rather break this glass and slash my wrists." If Craig doesn't reprise the role in the 25th Bond film, fans have pointed to actors like Idris Elba ("The Wire") and Damian Lewis ("Homeland") as worthy replacements. 'Walking Dead' Star Norman Reedus Biking Cross-Country For AMC Travel Show Posted: On "The Walking Dead," Norman Reedus rides a motorcycle to evade zombies. In real life, he rides bikes for pleasure - and now for another TV show on AMC. The network has ordered six episodes of "Ride With Norman Reedus," which follows the actor as he bikes to new cities, where he explores bike shops, tattoo parlors, and restaurants and bars frequented by fellow hog enthusiasts. "I'm incredibly excited and thankful to AMC for giving me the opportunity to share a passion of mine with our fans, and hopefully a whole new audience. I had a lot of fun filming and exploring, and I hope it shows," Reedus said in a statement. His character on "The Walking Dead," Daryl Dixon, has become indelibly linked to motorcycles, which he's ridden for many seasons. And it turns out, Reedus loves the machines off-camera, too. "We love being the home of people's passion projects, and there is nobody more passionate about motorcycles than Norman Reedus," said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV. "He is an avid rider and aficionado who is deeply immersed in motorcycle culture. There is also nobody more fun to hang out with." "Ride With Norman Reedus" is expected to premiere sometime next year. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Final 'Peanuts Movie' Trailer Celebrates #FriendshipGoals Posted: It's been 65 years since Charles M. Schulz first created the Peanuts gang - and Charlie Brown and Snoopy's friendship remains as strong as ever. The final "Peanuts Movie" trailer celebrates the history of the classic comic - 17,897 strips, five feature films, 45 TV specials - and particularly, the love between a boy and his dog. "A dog doesn't try to give advice or judge you - just love you for who you are. It's nice to have someone just sit and listen to you," Charlie says. "Snoopy, what would I do without a friend like you?" The trailer doesn't detail much of the plot, since the first one took care of that. All you need to know is: Sally is bossy, Pigpen skates in a cloud of dust, Schroeder bangs away at a piano in his desk, and Linus hides under his blanket. The Peanuts gang never changes, and that's part of their charm. "The Peanuts Movie" opens in theaters November 6. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'Thor: Ragnarok' Will Be a Buddy Movie With The Hulk Posted: I Buddy movies are a staple in Hollywood, but so far, we haven't really gotten a buddy superhero movie. Well, it seems we won't have to wait much longer. In an interview with The Daily News, "Avengers" star Mark Ruffalo revealed that "Thor: Ragnarok" (slated for November 2017) will feature the titular character palling around with his Hulk. "I don't really know that much about it, but I think it's going to be a buddy picture with Thor and Bruce Banner," Rufffalo said. The Hulk is sitting out the action in "Captain America: Civil War." Ruffalo previously explained that Bruce Banner is still missing after the events of "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," and that the secret of his whereabouts "was too big, and Marvel wants to save that information for later." Of course, even the best of buddies often scuffle, and Ruffalo believes his outsized beast will get into it with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) at some point. "I think they'll probably fight," he told the Daily News. "There's no doubt, everyone wants us to fight at one point." Why, yes, we do! Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 15 Essential '80s Sci-Fi Movies You Need to See Posted: While the 1980's isn't generally regarded as one of the better decades for film, it was a gold mine for the science fiction genre. Best of Late Night TV: Sandra Bullock Serves Ice Cream With Fake Arms, Conan Seduces Charles Barkley Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. Did you ever see the old Canadian ice cream shop-set soap opera "Jacob's Patience," starring Sandra Bullock and Jimmy Fallon? Missed it? Well! Sandy really sells the idea, and "The Tonight Show" "showed a clip" where all of the actors had to use mannequin arms instead of real arms because Sandra was protecting her hands at the time as a hand model. It's messy and ridiculous but still fun to watch. But instead of doing a fake clip thing, they should've used the fake arms in a game. Next time? When not trying to scoop ice cream with fake arms, Sandy talked to Jimmy about how her son wanted her to wear a slutty Batgirl Halloween costume this year. Sigh. She vetoed it. And she recalled how Jimmy groped her on stage when they were together at the MTV Movie Awards. Don't try to change the subject, Jimmy! Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kenny Smith were on "Conan" and the group talked about their love for teasing Charles Barkley. Charles was accused of having no rhythm. He actually agreed, but said "we" -- meaning himself and Conan O'Brien -- had no rhythm, adding that he'd seen Conan on the show. Conan was not about to accept an insult to his dancing, so he got up and did a great demonstration with some "Magic Mike" moves, getting very physical with Charles. Love everyone's reactions: This is interesting. Billy Bob Thornton, Brie Larson and Jack Whitehall were on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" and Brie talked about her daily habit of picking spirit animal cards. So she had the guys pick their spirit animal cards on the show. Poor Billy Bob really just wanted to promote his movie but it's funny to see who got what card. Anna Faris and Trevor Noah were guests on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," with "The Daily Show" host explaining how he came to the U.S. from South Africa and admitting he doesn't know much about baseball. Anna talked about dressing up her son as a dinosaur for Halloween -- which is adorable, she said, but adds a level of weirdness because her husband Chris Pratt was in "Jurassic World" and she doesn't want it to look like self-promotion. NY Mets fan Jimmy Kimmel made a World Series bet with Kansas City Royals fan Eric Stonestreet of "Modern Family" and Eric had a video chat during the episode to taunt Jimmy. It's Chris Pratt vs. Chris Evans all over again! And yet ... not quite the same. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
