F. Gary Gray Confirms He's Directing 'Furious 8' Posted: Finally, after months of speculation, the director of "Furious 8" has been confirmed: F. Gary Gray will helm the hotly-anticipated sequel. Gray, who also directed summer hit "Straight Outta Compton," broke the news himself on Twitter, writing that he had taken the gig and was "excited" to get to work on the flick. Star Vin Diesel had previously indicated on Facebook that Gray was his top choice to take the reins, and that the two had met to discuss Gray boarding the franchise. The director has a big job on his hands (and possibly an entire trilogy to wrangle), following the record-breaking success of "Furious 7" at the international box office, though he seems well-equipped for the challenge. "Compton" was a surprise smash, making more than $150 million on a $20 million budget; if Gray brings the same magic touch to "Furious 8," the sky may be the limit on the flick's box office glory. "Furious 8" -- which, if Gray's Twitter photo is any indication, may be rebranding itself yet again as "FF8," "Fast & Furious 8," or possibly even "Fast Family 8" -- is due in theaters on April 14, 2017. Netflix Has Raised Its Price Again Posted: Netflix has raised the price of its most popular subscription plan -- which allows viewing on two devices simultaneously -- by $1.00, bumping up its monthly rate to $9.99 for new subscribers. According to Bloomberg, the plans allowing for one-screen viewing and four-screening viewing will not be affected, and those rates will remain steady at $7.99 and $11.99, respectively, for now. This new increase follows a rate hike announcement last year, which promised that only new subscribers would be affected, and that existing subscribers would continue to pay to their current rates for an unspecified period of time. That window, however, appears to be closing soon, though there's been no official word from Netflix on when to expect the change (or any comment about this new price hike for new customers). The company has simply told existing customers on Twitter that they would be "grandfathered in" to their current rates. Only subscribers in the U.S., Canada, and parts of Latin America will be affected by this new price change -- at least for now. The move comes after an August price increase in Europe, which saw rates rise by one Euro per month. It may not seem like much, but Netflix has a history of insane rate hikes in the past, so subscribers may want to brace themselves. We love "Orange Is the New Black" too much to cut the streaming cord, but our wallets may never forgive us. Here's the Official Plot Synopsis for 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Posted: Big "X-Men" news broke out at New York Comic Con today, where the official plot synopsis for "X-Men: Apocalypse" was finally revealed. In an unsurprising reveal for fans who have been following rumors about the flick, Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique/Raven is playing a key central role -- which should make a nice swan song for her character should Lawrence make good on her pronouncement that she's leaving the series after "Apocalypse" bows. (Then again, she may change her mind.) Here's the synopsis: Screen Crush notes that Lawrence seems to be taking over the Face of the Franchise role from Hugh Jackman, who won't appear in "Apocalypse." Wonder who's going to get the gig once Lawrence is done? "X-Men: Apocalypse" is due in theaters on May 27, 2016. [via: Screen Crush] Photo credit: Alan Markfield/Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. 'Incredibles 2,' 'Toy Story 4,' 'Cars 3' Release Dates Revealed Posted: New York Comic Con is in full swing this week, and while there, Disney revealed a bunch of release dates for Pixar projects that are due out in the next few years. "The Incredibles 2" is now expected to hit theaters on June 21, 2019, nearly 15 years after the first flick's release. Fans have been desperate for a sequel ever since "The Incredibles" debuted back in November 2004, and there has been plenty of talk from Pixar and director Brad Bird in the meantime (Disney also revealed at NYCC that most of the main characters, including Samuel L. Jackson's Frozone, are expected to return); now, at long last, moviegoers have a specific date they can circle on their calendars. "Toy Story 4," meanwhile, has been pushed back from its previously-announced 2017 release date, and will instead debut the following summer. A release date of June 15, 2018 has now been slated, marking the longest drought in "Toy Story" releases since the 11-year gap between 1999's "Toy Story 2" and 2010's "Toy Story 3." There's also now an official (confirmed) storyline for the sequel, which will feature Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) on a quest to find Bo Peep (Annie Potts). Pixar head honcho and original "Toy Story" mastermind John Lasseter is directing, from a script by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. Rounding out the Pixar sequels news is "Cars 3," which will now race into theaters on June 16, 2017, taking the slot previously occupied by "Toy Story 4." Disney declined to reveal anything about the film's plot, nor who is writing or directing the project, though the rapidly-approaching 2017 release date suggests that some behind-the-scenes creative work has already begun. Sounds like there's lots to get excited about. Pixar should probably just prep their Best Animated Feature Oscar speeches now. 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' Coming to Theaters in 2018 Posted: "Ant-Man" is getting a sequel, but the pint-sized superhero won't be its only star. Marvel announced the sequel's surprising title, "Ant-Man and the Wasp," as well as the movie's release date - July 6, 2018. "Ant-Man and the Wasp" will arrive right in the middle of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's "Phase 3." This will be the first Marvel film with a female character in the title. Marvel has come under some criticism for a lack of female-centric movies; their first solo female superhero film, "Captain Marvel," which was slated for July 2018, is now hitting theaters in March 2019. The addition of the Wasp to the "Ant-Man" sequel title indicates how popular Hope Van Dyne, played by Evangeline Lilly, was. It also hints at her increased importance in the future storyline. In a scene during the end credits, Hope was presented with the Wasp costume by her father, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). Ant-Man himself (Paul Rudd) will appear in "Captain America: Civil War," to pave the way for the character to join the new Avengers team. The sequel's scheduling right after "Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1" leads us to wonder if the Wasp might become part of that crew, too. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'Hemlock Grove' Season 3 Trailer Promises Bloody Ending to Series Posted: The final chapter of "Hemlock Grove" promises one thing: There will be blood. Netflix released the trailer for the third and final season, and it shows the denizens of the titular town struggling to contain their inner demons. "I'm about to do things I don't want to," whispers Roman Godrey (Bill Skarsgard) to a priest. "But sooner or later, I'm going to have to give in." In season 3, new faces come to Hemlock Grove and threaten to expose the secrets long kept by Roman, Peter (Landon Liboiron), and Olivia (Famke Janssen). Peter, a werewolf, and Roman, half-Upir (aka vampire), face the impossible choice of releasing the monsters to save humanity. The final season of "Hemlock Grove" is certainly not going to hold back when it comes to the horror aspect. As producer Eli Roth said, "We're going to wrap up the story, and it's going to be messy - not in terms of story, but in terms of gory." All 10 episodes of "Hemlock Grove" season 3 will be available to stream on Netflix on Oct. 23. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 9 Iconic Roles You Won't Believe Big Hollywood Stars Turned Down Posted: Hugh Jackman as James Bond? Al Pacino as Han Solo? Bill Murray as Batman?! These casting choices almost happened, but the actors said "No." In some alternate reality, however, Chewie's best friend and the galaxy's favorite scruffy-looking nerf herder is played by Michael Corleone. And The Dark Knight is the greenskeeper from "Caddyshack." You just brainsploded a bit, right?! We all know Will Smith turned down some major parts in his career, so here are 11 more actors you won't believe passed on iconic movie roles. Daniel Craig Would Rather Commit Suicide Than Play James Bond Again Posted: Daniel Craig's contract to play James Bond ends with "Spectre" on Nov. 6, so fans and the media have been endlessly speculating who might step into his shoes (Idris Elba? Damian Lewis? Tom Hiddleston?). One option that is completely off the table? Craig himself. In an interview with Time Out London, Craig shot down the idea of returning as 007 - shot it, stomped on it, gave it a few stabs, then buried it. He indicated he'd rather commit suicide than play James Bond again. "I'd rather break this glass and slash my wrists," he said. "No, not at the moment. Not at all. That's fine. I'm over it at the moment. We're done. All I want to do is move on." Well, of course, the actor did leave a tiny bit of wiggle room, since he referred to "the moment." What about in a few years? "If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money," Craig replied. And as for that endless "who should play Bond" carousel, don't look at him for a suggestion. "I don't give a f---." Tell us how you really feel, Craig! Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
10 Most Outrageous 'South Park' Celebrity Parodies Ever Posted: It's easy to dismiss "South Park" as a crass cartoon that revels in curse words, gratuitous sex, and graphic violence. Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. Keanu Reeves is a seriously funny dude. Hollywood needs to do more with this. Keanu and Jimmy Kimmel shot a trailer for their own slow and safe-moving movie, "A Reasonable Speed" -- "the first movie ever produced by the California Highway Patrol" -- with Jimmy and his fabulous fake hair driving carefully ahead of Keanu in a "low speed chase." It's fantastic, especially when Keanu shouts, "Slow down!" to a passing skateboarder and panics over approaching a speed bump. Clearly we would go see this movie, Hollywood, so make it. Keanu also talked about not being in "Speed 2," (he wasn't into the cruise ship thing) and his "Knock Knock" sex scene with the wife of the director, Eli Roth. Not that it's relevant, but how is it possible that he's 51? "Steve Jobs" star Kate Winslet played a little bit of "Photo Booth" with Jimmy Fallon on "The Tonight Show." They took crazy photos of themselves with the Photo Booth iPad add, then tried to match each other. Outside of her game segment, she talked about going after an EGOT and said she secured her "Steve Jobs" role with a selfie. "The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus told Fallon how he was discovered. First he was fired, then he got into a fight, then he went to a party and drank too much and started yelling at people. Somehow, based on that, he was invited to be in a play. He was supposed to be the understudy, but he ended up performing on the first night because the other dude didn't show up. A lady in the audience sent him out for some roles and he kept booking gigs. Now he's Daryl Dixon in TWD and he has a stunt planned for the Season 6 premiere at Madison Square Garden. He also said he created an app that curses you out. Joel McHale and Seth Meyers both love video games and Joel said he's so excited about "Halo 5" that he might abandon his kids for it. "Conan" wants us to forget about "Steve Jobs" and get ready for "Michael Dell," to review the not-quite-as-interesting or impressive story of the Dell computers. Once again, we'd watch this movie. The bar is low. Gina Rodriguez and Stephen Colbert had a nice little talk about positive motivation and their shared love of boxing. Stephen wants to join her cult. And, last but definitely not least, here are Sharon Osbourne, Elyes Gabel, Jamie Lee Curtis and James Corden getting very touchy feely -- literally sitting on top of each other for the whole talk. Poor Jamie did not look that comfortable. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
