'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Trailer: Watch It Now

Posted: 20 Oct 2015 01:11 AM PDT

The new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here -- come and watch it. What's so brilliant about these trailers so far is that they're essentially showing us different angles of the same scenes, revealing little bits of info each time without showing much of the movie at all. For the latest trailer, it's really all about the voices. We hear Rey speak, we hear Finn speak and we hear Kylo Ren speak, all for the first time. Each line reveals a little something about the character -- one's a loner, one wants to fight for a cause and one wants to finish what someone else started.   And when it comes to Han, Luke and Leia, well here's the big moment for all you old-schoolers.  What else did we learn? Most badass moment? Yup, Kylo Ren...

Here are a bunch of little bites to satisfy your hunger for movie culture:   Alternate Dimension Movie of the Day: Vulture shows us what Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice would have looked like in 1949:   Sweded Movie of the Day: Given the ridiculous amount of money Jurassic World made, maybe this low-budget version would have still made at least $100 million (via Devour):   Antique Movie of the Day: In honor of this week's Back to the Future celebration, here's a look at what the teens of 2015 think of the 2015 of Back to the Future Part II:   Actor in the Spotlight: See just how expressive George Clooney is without the need for any dialogue in this supercut of his facial performances:   Vintage Image of the...

Watch: All of the 'Star Wars' Trailers, from 'A New Hope' to 'The Force Awakens'

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 09:30 PM PDT

When the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer arrives today, it'll be the fourth official look at the upcoming film, due out December 18. However, all signs are pointing to it being a meatier look at the sequel, which has so far only released two bite-sized teasers that were under two minutes in length and a behind-the-scenes featurette.  But before we all obsessively watch the new trailer a million times in a row (and then snatch up as many tickets as we can once they're made available), let's take a trip back down memory lane to see how the other six Star Wars movies teased and wowed us with a preview of what's to come from a galaxy far, far away.    Star Wars: A New Hope   Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back   Star...

You've seen the new official poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But have you seen all the retouched versions circling the web? With something so huge to pop culture as this, of course there's going to be parodies and memes and all that. You can check out all the ones we've found below. First, though, take a gander at the wider version of the real thing above.   Luke Skywalker Edition  Everyone's been wondering why Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is missing. Well, someone took care of his absence. We don't know what that new Death Star looking thing is anyway, so who needs it? I'm not sure where this one originated from.   Jar Jar Edition  Never mind Luke, another jokester says. Where's Jar-Jar Binks? Well, here's...

Paul Verhoeven Says 'Showgirls' Could Have Ruined Charlize Theron's Career Instead

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 07:45 PM PDT

Showgirls is widely remembered as one of the best bad movies ever made. It tanked star Elizabeth Berkley's career, which had been seemingly on the rise after Saved by the Bell. It was a box office bomb, a critical bomb, and to this day people relish in mocking the script, the cruddy music, and the nudity. And yet still, knowing all of that, director Paul Verhoeven would still make a sequel to it, if only anyone would let him. In a recent interview with the New York Daily News, Verhoeven seemed very honest when talking about the movie's disastrous life and legacy, particularly the poisonous effect it had on Berkley's Hollywood cache. Here are some highlights:   On why he should actually be the one to blame: "If somebody has to be blamed, it...

What It's Like To Design An Original 'Star Wars' Poster That Was Never Used

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 06:00 PM PDT

I'll always feel a special connection to Star Wars, not just because it was the first movie I ever saw publicly or because we'll always be the same age (well, I'm technically a couple months older). My link actually goes back a little further, to when I was still in the womb and my dad was working on the movie poster. Or maybe I should say a poster, since it was not selected as the official one-sheet.  In fact, it's never really been employed in its intended role. The painting has been featured in the Art of Star Wars book and on a Star Wars Galaxy trading card from Topps (as seen below), and Zazzle.com recently sold t-shirts with the artwork (sadly I didn't buy one before they disappeared from the site), but it's never been a well-known design like...

When Star Wars: The Force Awakens tickets go on sale later today, you'll have options -- one of which will be snagging tickets to a marathon of all six Star Wars movies that will lead into Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The details surrounding the marathons are still a bit sketchy as we await the official what-to-do later on, but for starters here's what we know: -- The first six Star Wars films will screen in digital 2D before The Force Awakens screening in 3D. -- The marathons will most likely begin around 4am on December 17 with The Phantom Menace and end with a 7pm screening of The Force Awakens. -- Each person attending the marathon will receive a special lanyard with exclusive marathon art on it. -- All of theaters in the US and Canada that are participating in...

See the Amusing Way Tom Hanks Supports His Son's Movie, Which Opened Opposite 'Bridge of Spies'

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 03:00 PM PDT

It's natural for parents to be proud of their children, and to brag about their accomplishments. In Hollywood, of course, that natural pride sometimes takes a unique spin. Case in point: Tom Hanks' new movie, Bridge of Spies, opened in more than 2,800 theaters this past Friday, to wide publicity. Hanks and director Steven Spielberg made promotional stops at many media outlets, eagerly talking about the historical thriller. Meanwhile, Hanks' son Colin Hanks also saw a new movie open on Friday: All Things Must Pass. The younger Hanks had previously directed a short documentary, The Anti-Mascot, which screened on ESPN. But he tackled a more ambitious subject for his feature documentary debut, namely, the rise and fall of Tower Records, an iconic record store chain that...

Posted: 19 Oct 2015 01:15 PM PDT

[Twitter via Coming Soon]   Colossal: Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk) has joined Anne Hathaway in Colossal, written and to be directed by Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes).
