'Lost' Star Blasts Fans Who Say His Daughter Isn't Black Enough for 'Jem' Role Posted: Harold Perrineau screamed for Walt on "Lost" and now he's e-screaming for his daughter. Hell hath no fury like a father defending his little girl -- just ask Liam Neeson, or Papa Perrineau, who just posted a guest blog for TheWrap titled "Stop Saying My Daughter's Not Black Enough for 'Jem and the Holograms." The actor, still probably best known for playing Michael on "Lost," is father to Aurora Perrineau, who plays bass guitarist Shana in the new movie "Jem and the Holograms." Aurora has been facing backlash from fans who think she's not black enough to play a live action version of the cartoon character. Here's a video for reference, with this particular fan saying Aurora didn't look black to her, and the fact that she had to Google the actress's ethnicity showed that the casting department did a bad job, going for a "racially ambiguous" person instead of a dark-skinned woman with more natural hair. Here's a portion of Harold's blog response to all the critics: Read the full post here. He said his hope is to reach the people pointing their fingers at young artists like his daughter and get them to use that creative fire to create characters that look, sound, and feel like themselves. Harold Perrineau happens to be a well-known actor, but it's worth keeping in mind that every person criticized is someone's child. It doesn't mean the criticism isn't fair, but you can't be surprised when it's taken very personally. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. You Won't Believe Who's Spoiled to Die Next on 'The Walking Dead' Season 6 Posted: Warning: Major "The Walking Dead" spoilers ahead from Season 6 filming and the comic book. Um. Wow. Let's hope this new "Walking Dead" death spoiler is wrong. We'll know the truth in just a couple of days on October 25, but the reliable folks at The Spoiling Dead Fans just shared a spoilery Q&A on what happens in Sunday's Season 6, Episode 3, "Thank You," and although we can believe one of the deaths, the other one -- for a major character since Season 1 - feels like it has to be a misdirection/misunderstanding/other. Here's the death part of the post, which prepares us to lose both Nicholas (Michael Traynor) and ... Glenn (Steven Yeun): Holy Walker Bait, Batman. Could they really kill off Glenn like that? There have been false Glenn death rumors before, though, (like in Season 5 when it turns out it was Bob who died) and comic book fans have been waiting for Negan to arrive and follow his storyline. So maybe this is just some kind of misunderstanding. Or maybe Steven Yeun is just ready to leave the show and The Powers That Be want to keep fans on their toes with the No One Is Safe mantra. If so, that would leave room for some other fans to be right, that when Negan does eventually show up they'll "remix" his big intro and he'll kill someone else -- maybe even Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). If Glenn does die in Episode 3, it marks another Moral Compass death. (Watch your back, Morgan.) And it would probably be followed by a Maggie (Lauren Cohan) pregnancy announcement, since that's part of the comic book too and it would be even more sad to leave that out. The one positive note about Glenn's death-by-Negan in the comic is that it brought out a strong new leadership side of Maggie. Here are new spoilers from Entertainment Weekly, adding credence to the darkness of the episode: One of those moments has to be the mega-herd attacking Alexandria. Is the other The Wolves taking on The Scavengers role of approaching the gate? Or maybe Rick taking over Alexandria? Or perhaps it's trying to hint to Negan/The Saviors/other communities in the area. On the upside, Episode 4 is meant to be 90 minutes, and since it was written by showrunner Scott M. Gimple -- and Scott said he wrote the Morgan flashback -- we'll probably see how Morgan got to his "all life is precious" mantra after this weekend's dramatic death(s). Do you think they will really kill Glenn, as well as Nicholas, in Episode 3, "Thank You"? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'Once Upon a Time' May Be Casting the Devil: Does Someone Die and Go to Hell? Posted: It seems like the characters of "Once Upon a Time" have already been through hell but they haven't literally stopped by in person, so we may see the place in the second half of Season 5. According to TVLine, OUAT co-creator Eddie Kitsis summed up 5B as "hell," so fans now think we may visit the Underworld later in the season. On that note, TVLine added a new spoiler that the show is currently casting "a mysterious, dangerous and vindictive God-like figure known obscurely as 'Distinguished Gentleman' or 'DG.'" The devil? If so, just go for the gold and call Jack Nicholson and ask him to revive Daryl Van Horne from "Witches of Eastwick." Some fans further suspect this may -- just may -- be tied to TVLine's recent blind item about a drama series killing off one of its co-leads: There's no saying this death is definitely from "Once," it may be (as others suspect) from "Castle" or even "The Walking Dead," although "Once" and "Castle" get some of the biggest love on TVLine, and that was part of the clue. If it does turn out to be from OUAT, who would (temporarily) die? Emma? Henry? Regina? Snow? Charming? Hook? Stay tuned on that and prepare to face hell in the new year. Fun! What if Martin Scorsese Directed 'The Lion King'? Here's the F--king Result Posted: Warning: This may ruin your childhood memories. So get that through your f--king head now before it's too f--king late. The creative folks at BloodBlitz Comedy -- the evil geniuses behind "If Harry Potter Was the Villain," "If Elsa Was the Villain," and "If Joffrey Was the Hero" -- recently took on "The Lion King," imagining how the Disney movie would look if Martin Scorsese created a trailer. The result is "Lion King: A Tale of Two Mobsters," which uses audio from Scorsese's "Casino" and turns Timon and Pumbaa into Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci, complete with (bleeped) f-bombs and lines to poor Simba like "You sh-t-kicking stinky horse manure smelling motherf--ker, you. You f--k me up over there, I'll stick you in a hole in the f--king desert, you understand?" Yikes! If only Pesci and De Niro just sang a few bars from "Hakuna Matata," everything would be OK. Here's the "trailer": As one commenter requested, next they should do "If Tarantino Directed Toy Story." "To infinity and be--" [EAR SLICE] Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'Project Runway' 2015: Tim Gunn Will Save Edmond ... Right? Posted: "Project Runway," you can't fool us! At the end of last night's Season 14, Episode 12, "Roll Out the Red Carpet," Tim Gunn did not fold his hands in compassion and send Edmond Newton to the workroom to clean up his space. So Tim is going to use his save on Edmond, right, sending four designers to Fashion Week? Please? The October 22 episode ended with Edmond as the shocking elimination -- especially shocking since he'd been one of the frontrunners from Week 1, he was never in the bottom before last night, and he took the risks that he was asked to take in this final red carpet challenge before Fashion Week. Candice Cuoco was sent through even though the judges acknowledged she played it safe with that black dress and everyone said this was not the week to play it safe. Edmond experimented with color and really went wild with those scissors. Nina Garcia was right -- the fabric was dominating the design and, overall, it was a disappointment from Edmond. But it should've been appreciated that he stepped outside of his usual comfort zone, more than the favored designers who did what they usually do. The judges didn't like Ashley Nell Tipton's design that much, and she's been in the bottom a few times this season (three times in a row), but Heidi Klum decided it was "fair" to send Edmond home based on this particular challenge. If the judges were consistent with that "one day you're in, and the next day you're out" decision it would be one thing, but they pick and choose which rules to follow -- like the one about not playing it safe in this red carpet challenge. It's frustrating when "Project Runway" designers are punished for taking requested risks, and hopefully eliminating Edmond was just a way for Tim Gunn to step in and save him, based on his potential and his success in the rest of the season. Edmond has won three challenges, he's almost won four others, and he had never been a low scorer before last night. Not saying Ashley, Candice or Kelly should've been "out" instead, just arguing in favor of all four being sent through to Fashion Week. And that's probably what's going to happen. The final collections, for the top six, were shown at New York Fashion Week in September. Based on those designs, and the rest of the season, we picked Edmond as our predicted winner. We're not ready to change that prediction yet, but now we'll guess he edges out Kelly Dempsey, who may take second. (We originally thought Swapnil might be runner-up. Oops.) What do you think? Edmond for the save? Edmond for the win as well, or just to the finals? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Daniel Craig Says James Bond Is a Misogynist Posted: Daniel Craig has been hitting the press tour pretty hard in promotion of the latest James Bond flick, "Spectre," and he hasn't been shy about spouting controversial comments about the series. Now, Craig is at it again, calling out 007 for his womanizing ways. In an interview with The Red Bulletin, Craig was asked a series of questions about Bond's relevancy. While it seemed that the interviewer revered the character, Craig? Not so much. When asked what Craig thought moviegoers could learn from 007 to help their everyday lives, the actor responded with a brisk, "Nothing," and replied to a follow-up question, "Let's not talk these films up as some kind of life-changing experience." Oof. And the hits just kept on coming. The Red Bulletin inquired about Bond's legendary way with women, and Craig sounded off. "But let's not forget that he's actually a misogynist," the actor responded. "A lot of women are drawn to him chiefly because he embodies a certain kind of danger and never sticks around for too long." When prodded about Bond becoming "more chivalrous" in recent years, Craig said, "That's because we've surrounded him with very strong women who have no problem putting him in his place." One of those strong women is Monica Belluci, who the interviewer made the mistake of referring to as "an older woman." Craig was having none of that. "I think you mean ... a woman his own age," Craig replied. "We're talking about Monica Bellucci, for heaven's sake. When someone like that wants to be a Bond girl, you just count yourself lucky!" So maybe the reason Craig could be bailing on Bond is because he's tired of all the tired sexual views the protagonist promotes? Interesting. Kudos to the actor for speaking so passionately on the subject, and here's hoping his Bond successor -- whoever that may be -- possesses the same progressive politics. 'The Breakfast Club' Cast: Where Are They Now? Posted: Why do we still care about "The Breakfast Club"? Thirty years after its release, it remains the definitive movie about the American high school experience. In his tale of five diverse kids bonding during a Saturday in detention, writer/director John Hughes captured some eternal elements of being a teenager -- the awkwardness, the alienation, the casual cruelty, the social hierarchies, the longing for connection, and most of all, the penchant for self-dramatization. Of course, none of this would have worked without the sensitive performances of the five stars, the nucleus of what the adult press quickly and derisively dubbed "The Brat Pack." One of its members, Molly Ringwald, has a new movie hitting theaters - "Jem and the Holograms." In honor of its release, here is what we would learn if we got "The Breakfast Club" cast together for a high school reunion. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Josh Hutcherson Is 'Really Proud' of Jennifer Lawrence for Calling Out Sexist Wage Gap Posted: Jennifer Lawrence has received an outpouring of support following her scathing essay last week that put Hollywood on blast for its ridiculous gender-based wage gap. Now, one of her "Hunger Games" costars is also getting in on the J-Law love. In an interview with MTV News, Josh Hutcherson said that he was "really proud" of his pal and her "incredible" essay, agreeing with Lawrence that the sexism at play in actresses' salaries is outrageous. "To even have to say the words 'women's pay' sounds so backwards and f--ked up and not modern in any way, shape or form. And so for Jen to use her platform to speak about it in her classic Jen way, just blunt, saying what she thinks, I think it's great," Hutcherson told MTV. "Obviously it's something that should have happened decades and decades and decades ago, and the fact that it's something we're still dealing with now is f--king embarrassing and shocking." Hutcherson added that Lawrence, who's known for no-holds-barred public persona, was always a little "gun-shy" about speaking out on such important issues before. But the actor said that he was happy to see her now "using her voice not just to make people laugh." We'll raise a three-fingered "Hunger Games" salute to that. Zooey Deschanel Facts: 11 Things You (Probably) Didn't Know About the 'Rock the Kasbah' Star Posted: Zooey Deschanel is our favorite quirky/adorable actress in Hollywood, and she's been our dream BFF since we heard her singing Christmas carols in "Elf." Krysten Ritter Goes Dark in the Full 'Jessica Jones' Trailer Posted: After a handful of teasers, Netflix has finally released the first full trailer for its latest Marvel series, "Jessica Jones," and it looks even darker than we had previously imagined. The clip opens with Jessica (Krysten Ritter) discussing her second life as a detective after she gives up her superhero abilities. "A big part of the job is looking for the worst in people," she explains. "Turns out I excel at that." The reason for that, as we learn through flashbacks, is that Jessica was once under the mind control spell of the villainous Kilgrave (David Tennant), a man whose evil, twisted ways seemingly know no bounds. Though the horrors he inflicted on Jessica (and made her inflict on others) are only suggested, it's clear that he's creepy as hell -- and still a danger to our heroine. "The way I see it, being a hero just puts a target on your back," says Jessica's new friend, Luke Cage (Mike Colter), a fellow former superhero who's posing simply as a bartender for now. "Been there, done that," Jessica replies, implying that she's officially done with her past, too. But as Kilgrave looms, it's clear that Jessica will indeed need to "play the hero" (a vicious taunt from our villain) once more. Just how much destruction he'll leave in his wake before she rediscovers the superheroine within has yet to be seen. "Marvel's Jessica Jones" debuts on Netflix on November 20. Quiz: Is This Dylan McDermott or Dermot Mulroney? Posted: If you've never accidentally confused actors Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney, we congratulate you because you're clearly smarter than we are. It's not just their names that are freakishly alike -- they also sometimes kind of look the same and have had similar career paths. Not to mention the fact that they were both born the same week (Dylan McDermott: 10/26, Dermot Mulroney: 10/31) It's like the universe wants us to confuse these two. The fine folks at "SNL" explored this confounding issue in a hilarious sketch that goes down in history as one of our favorites. And now we're taking it to the streets (which look remarkably similar to the internet) with our own puzzler: Is this Dylan McDermott or Dermot Mulroney? Answer these trivia questions about the two actors to learn some valuable information that just might help you remember who's who. Hint: the answer is never Derbel McDillet. Good luck! 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' Play Is a Sequel Starring Harry's Son Posted: New details have emerged about upcoming "Harry Potter" play "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," and it couldn't be better: Instead of the prequel everyone wanted it to be, the play will be a direct sequel to the events in J.K. Rowling's novels. An official synopsis and artwork for "Cursed Child" were revealed this week, with a tagline that's sure to make Potterheads salivate: "The eighth story. Nineteen years later." Yes, that means that the play will pick up from the last moment we saw Harry, Ron, and Hermione in the series, in the epilogue to "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," sending their kids off to Hogwarts from Platform 9 3/4. The focus will then shift to new Hogwarts recruit Albus Severus Potter. Here's the full synopsis:
We can't imagine that Harry thinks life as a working dad is worse than having to destroy Voldemort's horcruxes (and sorta-kinda die himself), but what do we know? That's why the play will be told in two parts: As the creative team behind the project explained earlier, "the epic nature of the story" demands lots of room to examine that duality -- and now we know that we also need to spend plenty of time getting to know Albus Severus better, too. "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" debuts on the London stage in summer 2016. Tickets go on sale next week. Leonardo DiCaprio Did Some Crazy S--t Shooting 'The Revenant' Posted: There's been lots of talk in the trades recently about the brutal conditions -- and alleged manic whims of director Alejandro G. Inarritu -- that cast and crew had to suffer through while shooting "The Revenant," the ambitious new project starring Leonardo DiCaprio. But according to the actor, things got even weirder (and grosser) than the public had previously heard. In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, DiCaprio discussed the infamous shooting conditions, and while he held back on blaming Inarritu or crew members for any reported difficulties during the production, he did share some graphic details about his own process on the film. The actor revealed that shooting scenes like the intense bear attack near the flick's opening gave him the biggest challenges of his career -- and that was nothing compared to all the stuff involving dead animals. "I can name 30 or 40 sequences that were some of the most difficult things I've ever had to do," DiCaprio told Yahoo!. "Whether it's going in and out of frozen rivers, or sleeping in animal carcasses, or what I ate on set. [I was] enduring freezing cold and possible hypothermia constantly." And just what, exactly, did he eat, you may wonder? Hold on to your breakfast. "I certainly don't eat raw bison liver on a regular basis," the actor said. "When you see the movie, you'll see my reaction to it, because Alejandro kept it in. It says it all. It was an instinctive reaction." We can only imagine. Despite that disgusting dedication to his art, DiCaprio said he's proud to stand behind the film, and have audiences finally see it for themselves. "It's epic poetry, an existential journey through nature, and this man finding a will to live against all odds," the actor explained. "Yet he changes, nature changes him and I think those elements changed him while we were doing the movie." "The Revenant" is due in theaters on December 25. [via: Yahoo! Best of Late Night TV: Bradley Cooper's Adventures in NYC and Sarah Silverman's Too-High Stepmom Posted: Bradley Cooper visited "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and immediately started musing on ye olden days in New York City. Tragically, it appears as though he spent most of his childhood completely lost in The Village. Bless him. Meanwhile, Joy Behar chatted about why she returned to "The View." Turns out she wants to cover this year's political election because she's concerned about Donald Trump. Aren't we all, Joy Behar. Aren't we all. Oh, also she talked about her crush on Bernie Sanders. No comment on that one. Finally, Sarah Silverman swung by "Conan" and chatted about the time she got her stepmom high. Turns out the poor thing thought she could "smell colors" - which isn't quite as dramatic as the time her dad got stoned and thought he could fly. Yikes, Sarah Silverman's parents. Yikes.
