Posted: 07 Oct 2015 09:00 PM PDT

The month of October is typically time for scary movies to get the spotlight, but this month is also packed with some great, geeky stuff that's significantly less likely to give you nightmares. From massive conventions to hit movies and cool comics, there's a lot to look out for on shelves, in theaters, and around the geek scene throughout October. Here are ten things you'll want to keep on your radar this month.   New York Comic Con While this East Coast convention doesn't usually draw the movie contingent of its San Diego counterpart, there really is something for everyone at this gargantuan gathering of comics, television, movie, and gaming creators and fans. Steven Spielberg Reveals the Original 1965 Casting Choices For 'Bridge of Spies'

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 07:30 PM PDT

The new film from Steven Spielberg has a very old-fashioned feel to it. Some of that is obviously the result of the true spy drama Bridge of Spies being set more than half a century ago, but Spielberg also clearly meant to evoke a lot of classic movies of that time period. His casting of Tom Hanks, the closest actor today to a Spencer Tracy or Gregory Peck, in the lead was a necessity. As real-life lawyer and negotiator James B. Donovan, Hanks recalls the stature and conviction of characters played by Tracy in Inherit the Wind and Judgment at Nuremberg and Peck in To Kill a Mockingbird. The latter comes through blatantly in the first half of the film, as Donovan defends a Russian spy in a case that's reminiscent of Atticus Finch representing a...

Must-see: 'American Horror Story' Original Artwork

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 06:25 PM PDT

We love it when movie stars cross over into TV, which is why American Horror Story's four seasons have been so perfect thus far -- show creator Ryan Murphy's casting of Jessica Lange in a starring role opposite such venerable actresses as Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates and Frances Conroy was a stroke of genius. F/X's fourth season, American Horror Story: Freak Show, was released on DVD and Blu-ray this week and L.A.'s Hero Complex gallery held a special fan art show with more than 100 originals, prints and sculptures to celebrate. Check out some of what was displayed, below.    The show runs through Oct. 18 and prints are available for purchase.  The Feeding, Orioto   Jessica, David Mahoney   Twisty the Clown, Chris Oz...

Rare Home Movie Footage Reveals Michael J. Fox's Crazy Nickname on 'Back to the Future III'

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 06:00 PM PDT

If you're looking for a piece of juicy behind-the-scenes footage that's bound to reveal the delicate intricacies of filming Back to the Future III, this is not it. But if you're in the mood to watch some fun, '90s-era home movie footage from someone who happened to live next door to where they were filming part of the finale of the Back to the Future franchise, you've come to the right place. As the video shows, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) is donned in his Western gear and back at his house in 1985, chatting with his parents and Biff. This is right before he goes to meet up with his girlfriend Jennifer, eventually reuniting with Doc and his new family of time travelers. There is one amusing fun fact buried in this video, though, and it's the name on...

Watch the Adorable Moment a 14-Year-Old Found Out She Was Cast as Disney's Next Princess

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 04:30 PM PDT

Casting departments spend often months looking at an absurd amount of auditions (it can be in the thousands for major movies), trying to find that needle in the haystack. And even once they think they've found someone, they have to pass through a whole string of other department heads and studio execs. The Hunger Games series director Francis Lawrence once told us that the process often requires so many different people's approval that "It's amazing anyone ever gets cast." And so when the right person finally comes along, all of the stars align and someone is actually cast in a movie, it's a borderline magical thing. And if you want to see that moment take place, you can watch this video for Disney's new animated movie, Moana. It not only introduces...

No film festival is crazier than Fantastic Fest, so by default no film festival is home to crazier characters. From vicious murderers to talking cats, from aliens to crime bosses, from astronauts to, um, God, this year's slate of movies introduced all kinds of memorable characters. So you know what that means: list time. These are our 10 favorite characters from Fantastic Fest 2015. We hope you'll get the chance to meet them soon. And that picture at the top of this article? That's Thomasin from The Witch, played by Anya Taylor-Joy. She was number 11.   10. Elias in Men and Chicken With his bad haircut, worse mustache, awful wardrobe, and harelip, Mads Mikkelsen simply does not look like Mads Mikkelsen in Men and Chicken. Will Smith Confirms 'Bad Boys 3' Is Coming Soon

Posted: 07 Oct 2015 01:30 PM PDT

Two months ago, Sony announced that Bad Boys 3 would be released in theaters on February 17, 2017, with Bad Boys 4 to follow on July 3, 2019. Left unsaid, however, were any other key details, such as whether stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence would be returning, or whether Joe Carnahan (The Grey) would be taking over the directing duties from Michael Bay, as rumored. Now comes word from Will Smith that "there's a very, very, very strong possibility that you will be seeing a Bad Boys between the next 12 to 16 months." Smith made the comment during an appearance on a radio show, which squares almost exactly with the release announcement made by Sony. Smith did not, however, confirm whether he would be starring in the movie. To further whet the appetite for fans...
