The Last Sci-Fi Blog: The Glorious Inconsistencies of the 'Mad Max' Series Posted: 07 May 2015 09:30 PM PDT When the first trailers for Mad Max: Fury Road began arriving last year, a contingent of fans took to the internet to grumble, as fans on the internet do. This time, they were grumbling about how George Miller's fourth entry in his iconic post-apocalyptic action franchise had recast the title role with Tom Hardy. Why, they argued, was Mel Gibson not back? Completely ignoring the issues plaguing Gibson off screen, it is a valid question. There's no reason why Max couldn't be an older fellow and surely Gibson could be coaxed back into one of his most iconic roles. But then you remember that George Miller couldn't care less about continuity and that the recasting of Max is just another example of how this series has reinvented itself and evolved with each entry... The Geek Beat: 10 Things Movie-Loving Geeks Should Look For in May Posted: 07 May 2015 08:00 PM PDT Now that Avengers: Age of Ultron is in theaters, what's a movie-loving geek to do? Fortunately, there's no shortage of cool stuff to check out this month in addition to Marvel Studios' latest blockbuster. From comics and collectibles to the next batch of big-screen adventures, May is a busy month for geekery. Here are 10 things to look for this month: 1. Avengers: Age of Ultron If you haven't seen Avengers: Age of Ultron yet, what's the hold-up? Get thee to a cinema! The sequel to 2012's The Avengers has already earned a spot in the record books with the second-best opening weekend of all time in the U.S. (after The Avengers, of course), so if you haven't seen it yet, make that happen. Once you have seen it, though, move on to the... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

First 'Vacation' Trailer Is Way More NSFW Than The One You Grew Up With Posted: 07 May 2015 05:05 PM PDT National Lampoon's Vacation is a classic family movie. Some of its humor is a touch darker and off color, but even with strapping Aunt Edna's dead body to the roof of the car it is still the kind of movie that parents and their kids can watch together without things getting awkward. That's probably not going to be the case with its latest sequel, however. Titled simply Vacation, the new movie stars Ed Helms as the grown up Rusty Griswold who decides the only way to get his family out of the rut they're in is to recreate his favorite road trip from childhood. So after some advice from papa Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo do reprise their roles), Rusty, his wife (Christina Applegate) and two kids head off to Walley World. Along the way... 'Captain America: Civil War' Will Bring In Ant-Man And a Surprising 'Incredible Hulk' Actor Posted: 07 May 2015 03:42 PM PDT Everyone expects the Avengers movies to be the biggest of the Marvel bunch, but it's quite possible that Captain America: Civil War may end up being an even bigger movie than Age of Ultron. At least it looks that way if we're going off the cast list alone. The movie, which brings back Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo, began filming today in Atlanta, Georgia and to celebrate Disney sent out a full cast list. We already knew a lot of the names on it, but there's one in particular that stands out: William Hurt as General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, who hasn't been mentioned in the nine movies since The Incredible Hulk. If you don't recognize that name it's probably because The Incredible Hulk was made by Universal, not Disney... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
First Look at Tarantino's 'The Hateful Eight' Wins the Mustache Contest Posted: 07 May 2015 02:23 PM PDT Entertainment Weekly has released the cover for their next issue, which boasts the world's first official look at Quentin Tarantino's next movie, The Hateful Eight. And not only do we get to see a three of the film's eight badasses, but the cover also promises it's the "meanest, grittiest, and deadliest movie of the year." Normally we'd just chalk that up to marketing speak, but since this is Tarantino we're talking about, we won't be surprised in the slightest if it were true. And we actually kind of hope it is, especially if it means seeing this ridiculous cast completely cut loose: Samuel L. Jackson Jennifer Jason Leigh Kurt Russell Tim Roth Michael Madsen Walton Goggins Bruce Dern Demián Bichir James Parks Zoe Bell As... It's not yet clear how big her role will be in the movie, which is due in theaters on May 6, 2016. [Deadline] Beyond Deceit: Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins are featured in the first photo from legal thriller Beyond Deceit.
