Will the Next 'Transformers' Movie Be a Prequel? Posted: Deadline reports that "Ant-Man" writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari have joined a team headed by Akiva Goldsman and including "Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirman" and "Lost" writer Jeff Pinkner. And it seems the first idea to come out of the brain trust is for a prequel set on Cybertron. The goal of the writers room is to prep a movie to be ready when Michael Bay finishes filming the Benghazi drama "13 Hours." It's an interesting idea to assemble a TV-style team like this, to brainstorm future sequels, prequels, spinoffs, or even reboots. "Transformers One" would be an origin story about the robots, good and evil. It could be an animated film or live-action. A prequel could be a merchandising bonanza for Hasbro, with even more robot toys they could sell off the movie. It'll a never-ending circle of movies and toys, until the end of time. Tilda Swinton May Star in 'Doctor Strange' Opposite Benedict Cumberbatch Posted: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Swinton is close to making a deal to play The Ancient One, a Tibetan mystic who mentors Cumberbatch's Dr. Stephen Strange, a brilliant, cocky surgeon who loses both of his hands. While trying to heal himself, he discovers magic and receives training from The Ancient One. In the comic books, The Ancient One is male - Morgan Freeman and Ken Watanabe were names floated for the role - but it seems director Scott Derrickson is ready to mix things up. Whether Swinton will play the part as male or female is undetermined, but either possibility is intriguing. Adding a brilliantly eccentric performer like Swinton to the movie is a sign that Marvel is prepared to shake up its formula for future movies. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Tobey Maguire Cracks Up as Bobby Fischer in 'Pawn Sacrifice' Trailer Posted: A new trailer focuses on Fischer (Tobey Maguire) and Spassky's (Liev Schreiber) 1972 chess battle, which became much more than just a game - it was a Cold War showdown that pitted the United States against the Soviet Union. But Fischer struggled with the pressure, and was tormented by the very genius that made him one of the greatest chess players ever. "Pawn Sacrifice" looks like a typical, well-made biopic in the vein of "The Imitation Game" or "A Beautiful Mind," and the performances seem top-notch. "Pawn Sacrifice" opens September 18. The 'Armageddon' Honest Trailer Will Give You More Respect for Ben Affleck Posted: ![]() "Gear up for the best film about drilling into an asteroid and nuking it since the one that came out two months earlier," the trailer begins, giving a nod to "Deep Impact." "And let yourself enjoy this guilty pleasure that's the movie equivalent of Taco Bell. Looks OK on the surface, but for the love of God, don't think too hard about what's inside." Just sit back enjoy a movie where everyone is always yelling, the clock is always ticking, Michael Bay works at NASA, and "everything that can go boom will go boom," including the title of the movie itself. Oh, and don't forget that "space dementia" is a thing. You should watch this just for Ben's disses -- they include his actual commentary from the DVD, and he makes fun of the movie's lack of logic and mentions how Michael Bay told him to shut the f--k up. But the really funny part is that Owen Wilson "Wow." Perfection. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

See Jason Segel as David Foster Wallace in Bittersweet 'The End of the Tour' Trailer Posted: The movie is based on Lipsky's book, "Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip With David Foster Wallace." It's based on a true story and follows the Davids during their five-day interview as they bonded, competed, and talked about the big picture of life while promoting Wallace's 1996 novel "Infinite Jest." Here's the trailer: The elephant in the room, not addressed in the trailer, is the fact that Wallace committed suicide in 2008. The Rolling Stone article was never actually published, but Lipsky's book was published in 2010, after Wallace's death. The David Foster Wallace estate released a statement saying they did not endorse the movie and Wallace would never have approved using the transcripts from that interview for this project. So there's some real-life tension that you won't see on screen. Studio A24 is promoting "The End of the Tour" with the tagline "Imagine the greatest conversation you've ever had," trying to honor the man, the author, the spirit, and the message he left behind. "The End of the Tour" will be released on July 31. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Game of Thrones' Ratings Drop: Blame Sansa Rape Backlash or Memorial Day? Posted: Some fans said they would stop watching the show after the big Season 5, Episode 6 twist, others thought the ratings might go up in rubber-necking fascination. We kinda figured roughly the same number of people who usually watched would keep watching for Episode 7, but there was the added element of Memorial Day weekend to consider. Some shows take breaks over the holiday, but GoT chose not to, giving us "The Gift" of [SPOILERS IN CASE YOU MISSED IT] Dany meeting Tyrion and Cersei getting her first taste of justice. But how many fans watched that happen on Sunday night? According to TV by the Numbers, "Game of Thrones" had 5.4 million viewers on Sunday, with an 18-49 rating of 2.5. That's a drop from last week's 6.24 million and 3.1 rating (which was itself a drop from the previous week's 3.5 rating), and significantly down from the Season 5 premiere's 8 million viewers and 4.2 rating. Shows often drop after premieres (and tick back up for the finales) but this is the first time this season that fewer than 6 million people tuned in, and the first time the ratings dropped below 3.0. That's not good. Not that a drop in the 18-49 crowd is going to scare away advertisers, since ... HBO. But still, it's markedly fewer people watching the show. If it looks the same next week, maybe we can officially say it's plot backlash instead of a holiday blip. For now, we'll go with the guess that it was a bit of both. Then again, book fans just got a great gift in "The Gift," so maybe news of that Tyrion/Dany meeting -- which was a pleasant surprise even for book readers -- will bring more fans to watch this weekend's Episode 8, "Hardhome." Watch Amy Schumer 'Defend' Bill Cosby Against Rape Charges in Bold Sketch Posted: Amy: "All these women. Same story. Same facts. Repetitive. And how'd that feel to listen to? Blech, right? How do you feel when I play this?" She played a clip from "The Cosby Show" and everyone -- including Amy -- laughed. Amy: "Did anyone feel raped by that? How 'bout drugged? Me neither. I felt comforted by a familiar father figure. Nostalgia. Happiness. Laughter. Not guilty! Let's break this down logically. I am a good person. I like this good show. Last time I checked, good plus good did not equal guilty." Irrefutable evidence! The jury and judge were won over by Pudding Pops, sweaters, chocolate cake, and the knowledge that -- if Bill Cosby is convicted in the court of public opinion -- the stakes are high. "The next time you put on a rerun of 'The Cosby Show,' you might wince a little, you might feel a little pang. And none of us deserve that! We don't deserve to feel that pang. We deserve to dance like no one's watching, and watch like no one's raping." Solid arguments! Obviously he' s not guilty because it would make us feel bad if he were. Go ahead and watch (like no one's raping): Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
This 'Redneck Avengers' Bad Lip Reading Is Worthy of a Real TV Series Posted: Check out the video (which already has nearly 3 million views in less than a week): Even the theme song is classic! Robert Redford Takes a Hike in First 'A Walk in the Woods' Trailer Posted: In this exclusive trailer for "A Walk in the Woods," based on the acclaimed novel by Bill Bryson, Redford plays Bryson as he and an estranged friend (Nick Nolte) attempt to hike the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Many laughs ensue, especially when Nick Offerman shows up playing a sporting goods store clerk who shows Redford some camping essentials. A Walk in the Woods - Trailer 1 "My wife and I were going on vacation, and there was this book sitting on my desk that had sat there for some while," Redford said. He went on to say that he had yet to read it because the cover reminded him of "another one of those environmental books" he often receives. "[But] I took it along, I read it, and it was the first time I could remember laughing out loud so many times while reading a book." If the trailer is any indication, the author's unique brand of humor is alive and well in "Woods" -- and Redford wouldn't have it any other way. "I like comedy that has some wit attached to it, and Bryson had that," Redford said. "...Bryson skirts this line between just on the edge of sarcasm, what I would call sardonic humor, but it's funny, it's witty, but it's also got a level of sophistication." "Woods," which also stars Emma Thompson, hits theaters Labor Day Weekend. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Aloha' Accused of Being Too White, Sony Defends Cameron Crowe Posted: "Caucasians only make up 30 percent of the population [of Hawaii], but from watching this film, you'd think they made up 99 percent," said Media Action Network for Asian Americans rep Guy Aoki (via New York Post). "This comes in a long line of films - 'The Descendants,' '50 First Dates,' 'Blue Crush,' 'Pearl Harbor' - that uses Hawaii for its exotic backdrop but goes out of its way to exclude the very people who live there. It's an insult to the diverse culture and fabric of Hawaii." Aoki said the biggest roles for Asian-Pacific Islanders in "Aloha" are "Indian pedestrian," "upscale Japanese tourist" and "upscale restaurant guest." Director Crowe said that he wanted to play off the rich history of Hawaii, but Aoki countered, "How can you educate your audience to the 'rich history' of Hawaii by using mostly white people and excluding the majority of the people who live there and who helped build that history - APIs?" A spokesperson for Sony just stepped in to defend "Aloha," with this statement (via Entertainment Weekly): There were separate complaints about use of the word "aloha" itself, but that seems to have sidelined the larger point MANAA was making about representing the majority of the people in the location you're supposedly there to showcase. It's possible this will just get more people interested in watching "Aloha" -- either to see if the complaints are justified or in a backlash statement against "oversensitivity." But it might just be forgotten until the next movie comes around to re-launch the whitewashing debate. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.
