What the Hell Happened to Kevin Bacon's Face?

Posted:

Kevin Bacon Is Unrecognizable in New Photo
Kevin Bacon tweeted a picture Monday of himself looking a lot chubbier than we've ever seen him before. As you can imagine, Twitter is having a lot of fun with it. "Kevin Extra Bacon." "You need to stay off the bacon and maybe be Kevin Salad for a change."

Well, calm down Internet; it's for a role. The fullness in the facial area comes from makeup and a heaping helping of prosthetics.

Mindy Kaling Reveals Cover & Release Date for New Book, 'Why Not Me?'

Posted:

Why Not Me?, Mindy Kaling
Mindy Kaling is one of my favorite people in Hollywood, so I've been eagerly anticipating news about her second book, "Why Not Me?" Now, Kaling has revealed the book's cover, release date, and lots of juicy information about just what fans can expect when it arrives later this year.

"Why Not Me?," due out on September 29, is the follow-up to Kaling's bestselling essay collection, "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)," a hilarious mix of stories about her personal life and career, and meditations on Hollywood, shopping, and friendship. Her second book promises more of the same from the creator of "The Mindy Project," including satire surrounding starlets' beauty secrets, reflections on not fitting into Hollywood's weight standards, and an entire chapter (dubbed "Soup Snakes") devoted to her oddball relationship with fellow actor and writer (and onetime boyfriend) B.J. Novak.

"Mindy turns the anxieties, the glamour, and the celebrations of her second coming-of-age into a laugh-out-loud funny collection of essays that anyone who's ever been at a turning point in their life or career can relate to," reads the book's official blurb. "And those who've never been at a turning point can skip to the parts where she talks about meeting Bradley Cooper."

Check out the book's cover image -- featuring a gorgeous shot of Kaling against a striking Tiffany blue background -- below, and get excited for "Why Not Me?"'s so-close-yet-so-far release date. Is it September yet?

Ian McKellen Is an Aging Sherlock in the 'Mr. Holmes' Trailer

Posted:

Mr. Holmes
The new film "Mr. Holmes" is a fresh take on the Sherlock Holmes character known the world over, which picks up with the famous detective years after the height of his fame, as he's grappling with aging and one last, seemingly unsolvable case.

Ian McKellen plays the titular character, who sneers at depictions of his life on the big screen and denies ever donning a deerstalker cap or smoking a pipe (he prefers cigars, thank you very much). Yet despite the legend that he's become, Holmes still can't shake the last case of his career, one he failed to solve and which haunts him daily.

He strikes up a friendship with Roger, the young son of his housekeeper (Laura Linney), and re-opens his files, all the while coming to terms with what may be the last chapter of his life. This is treacly territory -- old man befriends little boy, feelings ensue -- but the cliche seems to be in good hands with McKellen at the helm. The actor, himself in the twilight of his career, is tailor-made for this part, and his soulful performance should imbue this visually-stunning film with even more beauty.

"Mr. Holmes," directed by Bill Condon (who also directed McKellen to an Academy Award nomination in "Gods and Monsters"), is due in theaters on July 17.

Martin Freeman Joins 'Captain America: Civil War'

Posted:

The Paley Center For Media Presents: Martin Freeman is having a moment: The Emmy-winning actor just joined the cast of "Captain America: Civil War."

The "Hobbit" star will make his Marvel movie debut in "Civil War," in an undisclosed role. While Freeman has made a name for himself on the small screen, with roles in "Fargo," "Sherlock," and the original British version of "The Office," he's been graduating to bigger fare as of late thanks to the "Hobbit" trilogy, and joining the MCU juggernaut is a big coup.

"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in 'The Office,' Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us," said Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige in a statement on Marvel's website. "We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

Freeman's "Sherlock" co-star Benedict Cumberbatch has also recently joined up with Marvel: he's playing the titular role in the upcoming "Doctor Strange." While Freeman won't exactly be headlining "Civil War" -- that job will go to Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) -- we imagine he'll be a strong addition to the eclectic ensemble.

"Civil War" will pick up where "Avengers: Age of Ultron" left off, and feature a clash between Cap and Tony Stark. It's slated to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.

Ellen Albertini Dow, Rapping 'The Wedding Singer' Granny, Dies at 101

Posted:

'The Wedding Singer' Rapping Granny Ellen Albertini Dow Dies At Age 101
Ellen Albertini Dow, the scene-stealing actress who blossomed on both the big and small screens late in life and gave a memorable rapping performance in "The Wedding Singer," has died. She was 101.

Albertini Dow's incredible life began in Pennsylvania in 1913, and she studied acting and mime alongside industry legends including Martha Graham and Marcel Marceau. She and her husband, Eugene Dow, started the theater program at Pierce College in California, where she taught until she retired in 1985.

But Albertini Dow didn't stop there. She started taking acting classes at the American Film Institute and began a career in her 70s, scoring roles in television series including the 1980s reboot of "The Twilight Zone." She went on to appear on television numerous times throughout the next few decades of her life, including guest spots on series such as "Moonlighting," "Murphy Brown," "The Golden Girls," "The Wonder Years," "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "ER," "Seinfeld," "Will &Grace," "Cold Case," "Hannah Montana," "My Name Is Earl," "Scrubs," "Six Feet Under," and "Family Guy." Her most recent television work was on "New Girl" in 2013.

Albertini Dow was also a prolific film actress, too, appearing in "My Blue Heaven," "Sister Act" and "Sister Act 2," "Eight Crazy Nights," and "Wedding Crashers." But it was her role in 1998's "The Wedding Singer" that fans will perhaps remember most. The actress stole the show as Rosie, a sweet older woman who took piano lessons from Adam Sandler's character to surprise her husband with a rendition of "Till There Was You."

While Rosie did indeed sing that song, she also busted out a perfect take on the Sugarhill Gang's hit "Rapper's Delight," a performance that delighted characters in the film and audiences at home alike. Albertini Dow's sprightly rendition also featured on "The Wedding Singer"'s soundtrack, which went double platinum.

We'll miss seeing Albertini Dow light up the screen with her infectious energy and enormous talent. Here's to a life well-lived.

13 Signs You're Addicted to Netflix

Posted:

signs you're addicted to netflixEveryone loves Netflix. In fact, some people love Netflix so much they can't function without it, cutting off friends and family, forgetting to eat (or go to the bathroom), and letting day after day go by as they sink, unwittingly, into a black hole of schmaltzy rom-coms, crappy horror movies, and obscure '80s British detective series. If you or someone you love exhibits any of these warning signs, it's probably too late.

Will Poulter to Play Pennywise in Cary Fukunaga's 'It'

Posted:

WIRED Cafe @ Comic Con - Day 1 Cary Fukunaga's upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's horror classic "It" has found its villain: Will Poulter has been tapped to play Pennywise.

Variety reports that the young actor is set to take on the role of the villainous clown, who was previously brought to life in an iconic turn by Tim Curry in a 1990 television miniseries. According to the trade, 22-year-old Poulter seems like an odd choice on the surface, but the actor -- known mainly for his comedic supporting role in 2013's "We're the Millers" -- reportedly nailed his audition, and "Fukunaga could not say no."

While an older actor was initially considered for the part (Variety writes that Mark Rylance and Ben Mendelsohn were also in the running), distributor New Line decided to bet on Poulter instead. That's in line with Fukunaga's vision for the flick, which Variety reports "will stay true to the King story while also giving the film a new look."

Poulter is now the face of Fukunaga's film, which will be split into two parts to service King's 900-page novel. Part one will focus on the protagonists as children, battling and banishing Pennywise, while the second installment revisits the same group as adults, as Pennywise (still played by Poulter) returns to terrorize them again.

Looks like Poulter has big things ahead of him. He'll next be seen alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu's "The Revenant," in which he also plays an antagonist role.

'Game of Thrones' Reimagined as 'Real Housewives of King's Landing'

Posted:

Game of ThronesBackstabbing. Snarky gossip. Thinly veiled insults. And a lot of wine. Are we talking about "Real Housewives" or "Game of Thrones"?

It could be both, as this clever mash-up proves. Here's "The Real Housewives of King's Landing" featuring Margaery "I'm the new Queen, bitch" Tyrell and Cersei "IDGAF, I'm in charge" Lannister.

"That's her game," Cersei grumbles about Marg, " to elicit some pretense of friendship."

And of course, the younger Margaery likes to throw Cersei's age in her face at every opportunity. "The Queen Mother will be a Queen Grandmother soon," she says with a wicked smile. We're just waiting for one of them to throw wine in the other's face and call for trial by combat.

This is just the latest in a long line of "Game of Thrones" mashups - there was the "Saved By the Bell" recap, the "Brady Bunch opener, and even "Wolf of Wall Street."

"Game of Thrones" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.

'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: America Chooses Well (So Far)

Posted:

'Dancing With the Stars': Rumer Willis's Perfect Rumba
Oh, dance fans, I had a hard time watching this episode of "Dancing with the Stars." Don't get me wrong, there's actually a lot of great dancing here for America's Choice and a trio round. The problem is, every couple to perform reminds me of last week's travesty: the heart-breaking elimination that sent home our beloved Willow. She should still be here, and it's disgusting to me that she's not. It's particularly hard to be objective about Chris and Robert when I'm still so angry over Willow's ouster.

But there's still lots to admire in this exciting "race to the semi-finals" episode, filled with chills, spills, high pressure, and even two birthdays. Yes, Erin is presented with a cake for her birthday, which she doesn't eat herself (women almost never eat on television) but shares with Tom for his 60th birthday on Wednesday. It's also America's Choice, as the fans vote on what kind of routines, songs, props, and costumes they want. The dancers can veto some suggestions, fortunately (dancing penguins, anyone?), but America does pretty well overall, resulting in some very entertaining routines tonight, and tough competition for tomorrow's double elimination. I'm just so glad they've finally listened to their fans and are bringing back Dance Center, one of the best segments of every season.

Here are my top 5 dances:

Riker & Allison's Viennese Waltz: Yes, I clearly don't hide my emotions, especially when it comes to Riker. I love him, and-not sure if I've said this so clearly before, but I really want him to WIN. He should take the whole thing. This Viennese waltz is so great! He's definitely vulnerable, showing raw emotion as well as power. His face at the end of the dance says it all, and completely makes my heart go pitter-pat! I'm sunk. The tempo is really fast, even for Viennese waltz, but he keeps with it and looks beautiful. His arms and hands are gorgeous. And I think there's plenty of waltz content in there, but I'm obviously not Len (no one is). I'm disappointed about Len's comments, especially because I want Riker to get the first perfect score. He comes pretty close though. Score: 39.

Nastia & Derek (& Sasha)'s Paso Doble: Good job, America! What a fun concept for this dance, and it works well with Fall Out Boy's great song, "Centuries." I agree with Len that there isn't much paso doble in this paso doble, but the concept, the choreography, the flips and attitudes are all such fun that I don't care. It's great to see Sasha shine too, he's a fun dancer. That beautiful, light somersault is gorgeous, the way he bounds up in the air and dives into the ground like a swimming pool. Nastia is still stunning and technically brilliant, of course, but she needs a bit more thrust. I love Bruno's comment that they "make the Lannisters look like pussycats." Mrowr. Score: 36

Rumer & Val's Rumba: This is beautiful. Good job again, America. You asked for a "classic, ultra elegant" rumba, "like the good old days." Apparently, that means a la "Strictly Ballroom," with the same great song ("Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps"). It's dance for dance's sake, with no gimmicks, no extra dancers or fluff, just clean, beautiful dancing. And that near kiss they sneak in is so much hotter than Robert and Kym's, in large part because it's unexpected. Downright sexy. Of course the judges love it, especially Len, who rewards them with a coveted 10. In fact, my only complaint is that they received the first perfect score of the season, and booted Riker and Allison out of the top position. Len, you beast! Score: 40.

Riker & Allison's Jazz with Brittany: Brittany Cherry from "So You Think You Can Dance" Season 10 joins Allison and Riker for their jazz trio, full of hip-hop, boy band, and classic jazz moves. I didn't know Riker danced in a crew. That explains a whole lot. But his technique is great too, his pirouettes and axel turn all look really good, despite that you can see him thinking just a tiny bit during those parts. This is a fun routine and he's clearly having a blast, and as Julianne points out, he's definitely leading the pack. Too bad Len is such a fuddy-duddy he brings their score down again. Score: 39

Nastia & Derek's Jive with Sasha: Since Nastia and Derek have already been working with Sasha, of course it makes sense for them to continue this collaboration for the trio round. This is a very inventive routine that reminds me of the musical "City of Angels" (I know, I'm probably one of only a handful who remembers that show), as Nastia sneaks off between rooms to jive with Sasha instead of Derek. The choreography is really fun, and the performance entertaining. I love Nastia's backward cartwheel onto the couch for the final "Singin' in the Rain" pose. So does Len, who goes so far as to give them a standing ovation. They earn the second perfect score of the season (and evening). Score: 40

The rest:

Noah & Sharna's Tango: I'm glad to know that the contestants can veto some of America's choices, as Noah did, declining a military uniform. Instead he wears a dashing white suit for his tango with Sharna. They look great together, as usual, and in some ways the stiffness in his legs works well for tango. It takes away some of the smoothness, however, which may be what Carrie Ann refers to with her comment that it's "blocky." I hate to say the choreography starts to feel the same to me, and I wonder how far he can push himself because of his challenges. But it's still amazing how he does everything he does. Score: 31

Chris and Witney's Contemporary: I wish I like this dance as much as the judges do. I don't dislike it, it's very pretty, but I feel Witney is still dancing around Chris. Based on the package, I thought contemporary could be a great challenge for him, but Witney doesn't give him enough to do. I blame her choreography more than I blame him, because he does fairly well with what he's given, and the lifts are strong. Yes, he could show a little more emotion, but he's not an actor, he's a farmer (as they keep reminding us). The judges love the dance though, and reward him. Score: 34

Robert & Kym's Contemporary: Phew. I for one am so glad that they don't make a big deal out of that kiss. I hate that it's all America can talk about. Yes, there might be something between them in real life, but so what. This competition should be about their dancing, not their relationship, and I suspect it's the latter that's kept them on the show this long. I do like this dance more than I thought I would. It's lovely, and Robert dances a lot more than Chris did in his contemporary. And again, I appreciate that the kiss is tucked in the middle instead of some big overly dramatic thing. Bruno's comment about it being like watching a deodorant commercial does not sound so good though. I often wonder if he has any idea what he's saying. Score: 33

Noah & Sharna's Salsa with Emma: This is pretty cool, yet there's something missing for me, and I'm not sure what. Something in the package led me to expect more with the "armography," as Bruno calls it, and it doesn't quite come through. But the routine is still innovative and clever (though a shame the freeze frame is a little off-balance). I especially like the Pilobolus-esque opening pose, but I could do without the butt drumming again-though it's pretty hysterical to see Bruno fall off his chair like that (especially in slow motion). Ah, live television. I bet Len is so glad there's now a Julianne-shaped buffer between him and Bruno. Although what was with that weird picture of Len with two mannequins? Scary. Score: 32

Chris & Witney's Paso Doble with Lindsey: Witney's season 19 trio paso doble with Lindsey and Alfonso Ribeiro was one of the best dances last year, so there is potential with this one. Unfortunately though, Chris is no Alfonso, and this paso is nothing like the last one. There are a few moments here and there, but Chris mostly looks awkward; so stiff and uncomfortable. He's very mechanical and clompy, as Carrie Ann points out. It again makes me angry that he's still here and Willow is gone. Score: 30

Robert & Kym's Samba with Jenna: Robert, Kym, and Jenna's "Men in Blue Steel" samba has a lot of really fun choreography in it, but unfortunately the execution is rough. Audience boos aside, Len is absolutely right: it's messy. The steps are muddled, the timing is off in places, and the knee slide just looks painful. But as Bruno mentions, Robert has great Italian style and gives his all. He's actually a cute guy, but I'm so tired of the slimy relationship stuff. At least with Jenna there he seems to be keeping it slightly under control. Score: 29 (lowest score)

Rumer & Val's Paso Doble with Artem: They're doing very well tonight with the classic, gimmick free dance routines. Just like their rumba, this paso doble is clean and sharp, dance for dance's sake, and beautiful. I personally find the rumba a little more dynamic, but this routine is exciting too. Great skirt/cape work and strong choreography earn the couple their second perfect score-making me that much sadder for Riker. Score: 40

Well, there are your dances. I feel a little badly picking the same few couples over and over for my Top 5, but they are the strongest, as well as my personal preference. It just shows, again, how unfair it is that Willow was sent home last week. If a similar thing happens in tomorrow's double elimination, I'm going to be beside myself.

How about you, dance fans? Which are your favorite routines tonight? What do you expect for the double elimination tomorrow? Are you as excited as I am for the return of Dance Center?

Another 'Indiana Jones' Movie Is Definitely, for Sure Going to Get Made

Posted:

Indiana Jones"Indiana Jones. I always knew someday you'd come walking back through my door. I never doubted that. Something made it inevitable."

Well, Marion was right, because Indy will be coming back through the door - in "Indiana Jones 5." Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy finally confirmed to Vanity Fair what fans have been speculating about since the company was purchased by Disney a few years ago.

Another "Indiana Jones" movie "will one day be made inside this company," she declared. "When it will happen, I'm not quite sure. We haven't started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it."

Talk of another Indy movie has been swirling since the last one, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" in 2008. But the rumor mill really heated up when Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2011. Almost immediately, Disney put the "Star Wars" franchise back into production, and it seems that now, they're ready to tackle "Indiana Jones."

Whether this Indy movie would be a sequel, prequel, or reboot - or involve star Harrison Ford - is totally unknown at this early juncture, but we're ready for a little more fortune and glory ... right, kids?

Boba Fett's Origin Story Will Be the Second 'Star Wars' Standalone Movie

Posted:

'Star Wars' Second Standalone Movie Will Focus on Boba Fett
May the Fourth ended with the best "Star Wars" news possible -- that Boba Fett will, indeed, be the focus of the second "Star Wars" standalone movie.

The Wrap confirms the rumors that the next standalone movie would be the bounty hunter's origin story. That news comes on the heels of director Josh Trank ("Fantastic Four") leaving the project to "pursue some original creative opportunities."

Boba Fett is a longstanding fan favorite, a badass bounty hunter sent by Jabba the Hutt to capture Han Solo in "The Empire Strikes Back." In the prequels, it's revealed Boba is a clone that hunter Jango Fett raised as his son.

But we'll have to wait awhile to get our Boba Fett fix - his standalone movie isn't scheduled to come out until 2018. First, there's "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" this December, then the rebel fighters-focused "Rogue One" in December 2016, and "Episode VIII" in 2017. So, cool your jetpacks for now, Fett fans.Boba Fett

'The Simpsons' Renewed for Two More Seasons

Posted:

Simpsons"The Simpsons" should be renamed "The Immortals."

The longest-running scripted primetime series in history will run even longer now, with Fox ordering two more seasons of the animated comedy, according to Entertainment Weekly. Even in its old age, the show generates decent ratings - averaging around 6 million viewers, and over 2.9 in the advertised-coveted 18-49 demographic.

There will be 22 episodes in seasons 27 and 28, bringing the total to 625 episodes. That's 312 hours, or over 13 days worth of "Simpsons" footage.

No doubt FXX will do another mega-marathon, so get ready to break out the sweatpants, a few cases of energy drinks, and several Costco-sized tubs of cheese doodles. This'll be the binge to end all binges.

Best of Late Night TV: President Obama's Beautiful Letterman Tribute, Every Arnold Movie in 6 Minutes (VIDEO)

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Sadly, David Letterman is winding down his term as "Late Show" host. On Monday night, President Barack Obama stopped by on the farewell tour. They talked about their mutual retirement plans (play dominoes together?) and President Obama said he knows Dave likes Michelle more than him. (Michelle was a guest late last week.) Dave asked POTUS if this was the first country in which he was president. "It is, I suspect, the first and last country that I'm president. Unlike late-night talk show hosts, I have a term limit." Ba-dum-dum. Then the president gave a beautiful little speech in Dave's honor. "We've grown up with you. The country, I think, has - you know, after a tough day at the office or coming home from work, knowing you've been there to give us a little bit of joy and a little bit of laughter, it has meant so much. And you're part of all of us. You've given us a great gift and we love you." Sniff! Will Ferrell was also on "Late Show" Monday night, and here he is stepping out as late Chicago Cubs announcer Harry Caray: Over on "The Tonight Show," Jimmy Fallon and guest Jack Black recreated the "More Than Words" music video. Jimmy looks good with that hair, he should keep it. Here's the original, if you want to compare: Jeremy Renner was on "Conan" and they discussed how he jokingly called Black Widow a slut and there was Internet backlash. Jeremy didn't back down from it. "We're talking about fictional characters and fictional behavior, but if you slept with four of the six Avengers, no matter how much fun you had, you'd be a slut. Just saying. I'd be a slut." Abigail Breslin was on "Late Night with Seth Meyers," talking about working with Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Maggie." She told this great story about rambling on about someone on Facebook, and Ahhhhnold was right behind her. Speaking of Ahhhnold, he was on "The Late Late Show with James Corden," along with Whitney Cummings, who sat on Arnold's lap. Arnold talked about his filmography and discussed why "Kindergarden Cop" is his favorite movie. He also shared his surprise that the "Terminator" franchise has been so successful and discussed that he almost lost the lead role to O.J. Simpson. Now you have to watch Arnold act out all of his films in six minutes, ala Tom Hanks doing the same for James' first show. James' "Predator" impression is pretty hilarious and the silly string "freeze" is classic. At least stay to the 4 minute mark for the sexy "True Lies" strip tease. Jimmy Kimmel talked about his experience being part of Manny Pacquiao's entourage as his own Justin Bieber: 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!': Jimmy Kimmel Talks About Being Part of Manny Pacquiao's Entourage
Ryan Seacrest was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," talking about the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight, plus Bruce Jenner and the upcoming Kardashian special. Jimmy explained why he was bouncing behind Manny when they entered the ring. He thought they were all going to do a bounce together. Brittany Snow was also on JKL and Jimmy shared that his mom is a big fan of "Pitch Perfect."
