Comics on Film: How 'Captain America: Civil War' Will Become 'Avengers 2.5' Posted: 29 May 2015 08:21 PM PDT NOTE: The following contains spoilers for Avengers: Age of Ultron. Next year, Marvel Studios will release Captain America: Civil War, and unlike many of the other solo character films the studio has put out, it feels more like a fully-fledged Avengers affair. In addition to the likes of Captain America and Iron Man, we’ll also be seeing all of the “New Avengers,” including a returning Black Widow, Falcon, the Scarlet Witch, War Machine, and even Vision. Extending beyond these characters is the inclusion of the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, as well as other supporting characters like Agent 13, Brock Rumlow, and even General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross from The Incredible Hulk. Watch: How 'Kung Fury' Became The Greatest Thing On the Internet Posted: 29 May 2015 06:02 PM PDT Have you watched The Greatest Thing On the Internet yet? It's called Kung Fury, and it's a 30-minute crowdfunded short film that lampoons every ridiculous aspect of 1980s action movies... and it's awesome! Beyond awesome, really. Just in the first two minutes of this short alone we have a vintage arcade game come to life and stampede through the city, only to watch it get taken out by a dude flying through the air whilst firing a weapon atop his sports car. And this all happens in the first two minutes! The short, much of it funded through Kickstarter, continually ups the crazy factor by including dinosaurs, Adolf Hitler, time travel, and... well, just check out its poster for extra maniacal mayhem. Is this not one of the greatest movie posters... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch: Stephen Colbert Drops a Great 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Reference In Commencement Speech Posted: 29 May 2015 04:19 PM PDT Mad Max: Fury Road has only been in theaters for two weeks, but it's already making its mark on pop culture. It starts with small things like inspiring artists all over the world to make fan art in its honor. Then it gets a bit more eccentric with people leaving perfect, in-character reviews for a random, silver-colored food spray on Amazon. And now Mad Max is climbing all the way to the top of pop culture with none other than Stephen Colbert ending his commencement speech at Wake Forest University with a glorious Fury Road reference. Check it out: Strange how if you make a movie that's both popular (it crossed the $100 million mark this week) and critically loved (98% at Rotten Tomatoes), people will keep seeing it and talking about it. Funnily... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
How Radiohead Got Their Name Thanks to the Psychic Powers of Stephen Tobolowsky Posted: 29 May 2015 03:12 PM PDT The origins of band names are often fascinating, and many of them come from movie titles or elements of movies. Some of the best choices, in my opinion, are Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (from The Wild One), Mogwai (from Gremlins), Duran Duran (from Barbarella), Veruca Salt (from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory), The Misfits (from The Misfits) and The Dismemberment Plan, which comes from a line in Groundhog Day spoken by actor Stephen Tobolowsky as the character Ned Ryerson. I now have a new favorite band name origin, though, and it also involves Tobolowsky, years before his most memorable turn in that Bill Murray movie. It turns out, according to Tobolowsky himself, that Radiohead is pretty much named for his psychic powers. Dangerous Minds relayed the...
