Andy Serkis's 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Character Revealed

Posted:

It was a no-brainer to assume that Andy Serkis's character in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be motion-captured, and now that belief has been confirmed.

Legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz spilled the beans during an interview with StarWars.com, where she discussed her photo shoot with actors from the flick for Vanity Fair's recent "Force Awakens" cover story. Leibovitz talked about the photo that Vanity Fair published of Lupita Nyong'o, whose character is also the result of motion-capture, and shared a shot of Serkis similarly rigged up with motion-capture trackers covering his face.

While the image, which you can see in full below, is dark and menacing -- Serkis is serving up a serious death glare -- we still don't know much about the character. But one detail that's now been supplied is his name: Supreme Leader Snoke.
It's a strange moniker, to be sure, and doesn't exactly reveal much, other than the implication that he's a villain. (Noble titles certainly worked well for Lord Vader and Emperor Palpatine, after all.) But we're going to have to wait a few more months to know for sure.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hits theaters on December 18.

'Bachelor' Chris Soules Splits From Whitney Bischoff

Posted:

Charity Screening Of Like so many "Bachelor" and "Bachelorette" contestants before them, Chris Soules and Whitney Bischoff just couldn't make it work.

The couple, who got engaged during the 19th season finale of "The Bachelor" earlier this year, have officially called it quits. "Bachelor" creator Mike Fleiss tweeted out the news on Thursday, writing that it was "a sad day" for those involved with the show. A rep for Soules confirmed the break-up in a statement, saying, "Whitney Bischoff and Chris Soules have mutually and amicably decided to end their engagement. They part with nothing but respect and admiration for one another and will continue to be supportive friends. They wish to thank everyone who has supported them through this journey."

Soules and Bischoff had been working on their relationship long-distance, after Soules was selected as a contestant on the recently-wrapped 20th season of "Dancing With the Stars." But according to Entertainment Weekly, Bischoff's frequent flights from Chicago to Los Angeles to cheer on her fiance weren't enough to keep the flame alive.

"Not long after the show's March finale, when Soules gave Bischoff a 4-carat Neil Lane rock, rumors began to circulate that their made-for-tv romance was not as touchy-feely as it seemed," EW reports. "In the finale, it seemed clear that Soules' preference was for another contestant, Becca Tilley."

Maybe things will work out better for the new Bachelorette?

'The Daily Show With Trevor Noah' Sets September Premiere Date

Posted:

trevor noah, the daily show, the daily show with trevor noah, comedy centralJon Stewart is set to pass the "Daily Show" torch to South African comedian Trevor Noah when the venerable host departs the program later this summer. Now, we know exactly when Trevor is taking over the gig.

Comedy Central announced this week that "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah" is set to debut on September 28. Stewart is vacating his post on August 6.

The network also released the first promo for the show, with Noah taking a spin in Stewart's chair, and trying out his hosting chops. But it looks like Stewart may have a hard time letting go of his post.

Check out the goofy clip below, and get excited for the Noah era (which will apparently be "new and sexy," according to the promo). The 31-year-old comedian -- who was officially announced as Stewart's replacement back in March -- has already made a name for himself in his native South Africa (where he hosted his own late-night talk show) and has impressed in his handful of "Daily Show" appearances to date. We're eager to see what else he has up his sleeve.

'Jaws' Returning to Theaters for 40th Anniversary This Summer

Posted:

jawsJust when you thought it was safe to go back in the theater...

"Jaws," the quintessential summer movie, is getting set to take another big bite out of the the box office this June, with a return to theaters timed to its 40th anniversary. The shark attack flick -- which first hit screens in June 1975 -- will return for a limited run in approximately 500 theaters nationwide, presented through a collaboration between Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies, and Universal Pictures.

"Jaws is a classic thriller enjoyed by generations and it is ready for a comeback," said Kymberli Frueh-Owens, vice president of programming for Fathom Events, in a statement. "Movie buffs will love seeing their favorite killer shark larger than life on the big screen. No risk of shark bite!"

The Steven Spielberg classic, based on the novel by Peter Benchley, made the director a household name, and for a time held the title of highest-grossing movie of all time -- until a little flick called "Star Wars" stole the crown in 1977. "Jaws" had a notoriously fraught production (the mechanical sharks used to portray the titular menace frequently malfunctioned), but its success wound up setting a trend that Hollywood would follow into perpetuity: greenlight big-budget, spectacle-laden pictures to dominate the multiplex during the summer months, and enjoy major profits.

But "Jaws" was the first, and arguably best, example of that model, and its iconic, haunting score (John Williams more than earned that Oscar) and heart-racing set pieces set it apart from plenty of imitators that followed. Check out the original on the big screen while you can.

"Jaws" will enjoy a limited run beginning on June 21. For more details, visit FathomEvents.com.

7 Sexy TV Serial Killers We Can't Help Being Attracted To

Posted:

Serial killer characters have only become more prevalent on TV over the past few years, and the phenomenon doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon. In 2013, seven new shows focusing on cutthroat criminals debuted and 2014 brought an audience obsession with HBO's "True Detective." The latest to jump on the trend is "Aquarius" (premiering May 28 on NBC), which stars David Duchovny as a cop investigating Charles Manson in the '60s.

TV viewers just can't get enough of killers on TV, but maybe it has to do with the fact that a lot of them are just ridiculously good looking. We're not saying anyone should be interested in dating these fellows, but we have to admit that they're still sexy despite that whole murdery thing they've got goin' on. Check out 7 of the hottest serial killers in TV history.

Here's Jeff Goldblum on the Set of 'Independence Day 2'

Posted:

independence daySome fans thought the day would never come, but production has finally started on the long-gestating sequel to "Independence Day," and some familiar faces have already been spotted on set.

In an Instagram post, producer Dean Devlin -- who also co-wrote and produced the 1996 original -- shared a snap of star Jeff Goldblum, who's reprising his role as scientist David Levinson for the flick. "Hanging with David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) 20 years later is a dream come true!" Devlin captioned the photo.

"Dream come true" could also describe "Independence Day 2"'s very existence, since it's been in the works on and off for close to two decades now, with numerous stops and starts -- remember when it was supposed to be split into two films? -- in the last few years alone. And while Goldblum's costar Will Smith won't be back this time around, plenty of other actors from the first flick are due to appear in "ID2," including Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, and Brent Spiner.

Also joining the cast are new additions Liam Hemsworth, Sela Ward (taking over presidential duties from Pullman), Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Joey King, and Maika Monroe. We're looking forward to seeing them all kick some alien butt.

"Independence Day 2" hits theaters on June 24, 2016.

Watch the First 8 Minutes of 'Aloha' Right Now

Posted:

Sneak Peek of 'Aloha'
Say hello to "Aloha" -- the first eight minutes of Cameron Crowe's new movie, to be precise.

The opening 480 seconds of the romantic comedy introduces us to its three main characters -- Brian Gilcrest (Bradley Cooper), Allison Ng (Emma Stone), and Tracy Woodside (Rachel McAdams) -- and, in true Cameron Crowe fashion, things get off to a bumpy start with the trio.

From the first seven-plus minutes, "Aloha" delivers Crowe's signature brand of character-driven moviemaking, with an emphasis on quick wit and clever dialogue, harkening back to a time when smart romantic comedies were all the rage in Hollywood. Now, we're lucky to get one or two rom-coms a year; take stock in that.

"Aloha," which also stars Danny McBride, John Krasinski, Alec Baldwin, and Bill Murray, hits theaters May 29th.

Watch Batman Ride on Top of the Joker's Car in 'Suicide Squad' Leaked Footage

Posted:

BatmanApparently, The Joker's taking Batman for a ride in "Suicide Squad."

Earlier this week, footage from the set of the DC Comics supervillains movie showed the Batmobile chasing the Jokermobile down the streets of Toronto. Now, there's even more video - this time showing Batman himself, crouching down on the roof of the Joker's flame-red car.

Of course, that's probably not Ben Affleck in the Batsuit for this scene - it's likely a stunt double. But the video seems to triple-confirm that Affleck's Batman will make an appearance in "Suicide Squad." The rumors first started when the actor was spotted on the Toronto set dressed more like Bruce Wayne. It makes sense that Batman would pop up in the latter movie, which heavily features Jared Leto's The Joker. Wherever The Joker goes, so goes Batman.

Affleck will first play the Caped Crusader in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" next March. "Suicide Squad" is set for release in August 2016.

Lori Loughlin's Aunt Becky Is Back For 'Fuller House'

Posted:

Full HouseThe Olsen twins may not be coming back for "Fuller House," Netflix's "Full House" spinoff, but one key player is - Aunt Becky!

Lori Loughlin confirmed on "Good Morning America" that she is reprising the role on "Fuller House."

"I'm very excited. It's going to be really great to be back with the whole cast. It'll be a lot of fun," Loughlin said. "We're going to help Candace, Jodi and Andrea spin off the new show. So we'll come back and do the first episode and maybe throughout we'll pop up here and there."

In the original series, Becky was Danny Tanner's (Bob Saget) co-host on "Wake Up, San Francisco." She met and fell in love with Jesse (John Stamos), and the two eventually got married and had twin boys. Throughout the show, Becky often served as a maternal figure to D.J. (Candace Cameron Bure), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen).

"Fuller House" focuses on D.J., now a single mom of her own, who invites Stephanie and best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) to move in to help raise her two sons - a set-up very similar to "Full House."

The Olsen twins will not be coming back for the spinoff, which executive producer Robert L. Boyett announced recently. Loughlin said of their decision, "We would've loved it. It would've been great. But I understand."

The 13-episode season of "Fuller House" will debut on Netflix in 2016.

Chris Pine in Talks to Romance 'Wonder Woman'

Posted:

US-ENTERTAINMENT-FILM-OSCARSBeam Chris Pine up ... to "Wonder Woman."

Variety reports that the actor is close to making a deal to join the cast of the upcoming DC Comics movie as Steve Trevor, the love interest of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman.

In the comic books, Steve Trevor is a military intelligence officer who crashes on Paradise Island, where Diana and her fellow Amazonians live. Diana falls for Steve and follows him back to the real world, where she becomes Wonder Woman.

Variety notes that Scott Eastwood was considered for the role, but he opted to take a smaller supporting role in "Suicide Squad" instead.

Pine is already part of one successful franchise in the "Star Trek" films, but this is the first time he's been in a superhero movie. He's set to star in "Star Trek 3," as well, and he'll have to juggle filming that with "Wonder Woman," which is due out in theaters in 2017.
