'True Detective' Season 2: See 4 Posters, Read New Details

Posted:

Who says summer belongs to the blockbusters? HBO has us pumped to sit at home on June 21 for the premiere of "True Detective" Season 2. The second round is set in Los Angeles and follows three cops (played by Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, and Rachel McAdam) and a criminal (Vince Vaughn). All four characters are featured from the noses down in these new posters:

Not sure why we're being denied eye access but, as each image repeats, "WE GET THE WORLD WE DESERVE." That could be good. That could be bad. Guessing bad, for now. "True Detective" creator and showrunner Nic Pizzolatto did a little Q&A with HBO, and even though we don't learn many hard facts about Season 2, here are some excerpts:

HBO: Is there a relationship between the story of season two and the story of season one, or any connection between the seasons?
There's no relationship between the stories or characters, which was the result of fully committing to something new, but I do think that the seasons have a deep, close bond in sensibility and vision, a similar soul, though this is a more complex world and field of characters.

HBO: Earlier last year, you said that this season was about 'Bad men, hard women and the secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system.' Is that still true?
It's not, I'm afraid. There's definitely bad men and hard women, but no secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system. That was a comment from very early in the process, and something I ended up discarding in favor of closer character work and a more grounded crime story. The complexity of the historical conspiracy first conceived detracted from the characters and their reality, I felt, and those characters are ultimately what have to shape the world and story. So I moved away from that.

HBO: What's that music on the trailer? Where'd it come from?
That's one of several original songs developed with T-Bone Burnett, as original music plays a much greater role this season. The reasons for that are probably best explained by seeing the show, but these songs will be revealed in full at a later date.

Watch the teaser again below. The music alone is reason enough to watch this show.

The 21 Best Horror Movie Villains Ever, Ranked

Posted:

Jason Voorhees didn't start out as much of a horror villain; after all, in the initial "Friday the 13th" (released 35 years ago this week, on May 9, 1980), he had to have his mother do all his dirty work. But over the course of countless sequels, the seemingly unkillable, hockey-masked slasher worked hard, paid his dues, and became one of the all-time greats.

What does it take, after all, to be a great horror movie villain? A franchise helps, since you get to rack up the body count, but it should really be about quality, not quantity. Are you scary? Do you haunt the dreams of moviegoers after they leave the theater? Do they yearn for you to return and scare them again? Those ought to be the tests.

With that in mind, here's our ranking of the best horror movie villains. Aspiring ghouls reading this who want to become the next Jason: you've got your work cut out for you.best horror movie villains

Will the Boltons Die in 'Game of Thrones' Season 5? This Interview May Kill Hopes

Posted:

The only -- only! -- good thing about putting Sansa Stark in the line of Bolton fire in "Game of Thrones" Season 5 was to help her avenge the death of her mother and brother. Sophie Turner said she wants fans to see Sansa as "badass" this season, so we're poised and ready for her to slay Team Flay. And yet, Alfie Allen, who plays Theon, just gave an interview to Zap2it that suggests the Boltons aren't going anywhere. Since this storyline has been altered from the book, it's hard to know what they might do, but here are some troubling (but still kinda exciting) teases from Allen:

The Boltons are definitely emerging as a superpower within the 'Game of Thrones' world. They're just so at ease and almost regal about the way they treat people and the way they just are. I mean, their banner is a skinned man, for Christ's sake. They're not the nicest bunch of people, but they're completely at ease in that fact, which kind of makes it interesting to watch."

Here's another quote:

There's some amazing scenes between Ramsay and his father this year, without a shadow of a doubt, and I think the Boltons are going to be a force to be reckoned with for the years to come."

Years to come?! Noooooooooooo. That does not bode well for Stannis Baratheon's plan to take back Winterfell. Then again, Stannis has a lousy track record. He's a walking sad trombone, so it's not too shocking to think he'd leave The Wall, even with Melisandre (which is the current plan), and still not get the job done.

This Sunday's March 10 Episode 5 is titled "Kill the Boy," and even though we'd love that boy to be Ramsay Snow Bolton, we know that's not the case. #SaveSansa #NoSeriouslySaveSansaASAPSheDeservesBetter

'Avengers: Age of Ultron' Just Reached $500 Million Milestone Overseas

Posted:

If only Joss Whedon were still on Twitter, we could tweet him some congrats on this. Oh well.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" crossed the $500 million box office mark 17 days into its international release, Variety reports. That means it's already the third most successful Marvel film overseas, after "The Avengers" ($895 million) and "Iron Man 3" ($806 million). At $500M and counting, "Age of Ultron" has already passed the next Marvel titles on the international list, including "Captain America: Winter Soldier" ($455 million), "Guardians of the Galaxy" ($441 million), and "Thor: The Dark World" ($439 million).

And it hasn't even opened everywhere yet. The "Avengers" sequel hits China on May 12 and Japan on July 4. Do you think, all told, it can catch up to "Iron Man 3" or the original "Avengers"? It's not like it's a failure if it doesn't, but sequels always come with increased $$$ expectations.

In terms of domestic intake, "Age of Ultron" is said to have grossed $235.7 million in its first week (it opened in the U.S. May 1) and it's projected to earn about $85 million more this weekend. It might help that this weekend doesn't have a "fight of the century" as competition, it has Mother's Day. And you know your mom would probably rather check out Captain America and Thor than go to brunch.

'X-Men' Cast: Where Are They Now?

Posted:

X-Men Original Cast: Where Are They Now?
It's been 15 years since the X-Men first joined forces on the big screen, and a lot has happened since then. While comic book movies reign supreme at the box office today, back when "X-Men" was released, everyone in Hollywood was questioning whether or not a superhero ensemble movie could even make money. Well, it not only succeeded, it ushered in a decade+ era of mega comic book blockbusters that's still going gangbusters today (see: "Avengers: Age of Ultron"). But what's happened to the "X-Men" cast since 2000? Plenty. So catch up with the cast, many of whom are still donning the skin-tight getups they wore back in the day.

Why Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda Are (Rightly) Angry About Their Netflix Pay

Posted:

Premiere Of Netflix's Here's a recent real-world example of the pay gap that gets discussed a lot in theory: Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda are headlining Netflix's new series, "Grace and Frankie," but they discovered they are getting the same pay as their male co-stars, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston. Sheen and Waterston are no slouches, but it's not their show. As the actresses told reporters at Netflix press day (via Zap2it):

Fonda: "[Tomlin] found out [Waterston and Sheen] are getting the same salary that we are. That doesn't make us happy."

Tomlin: "No. The show is not 'Sol and Robert' -- it's 'Grace and Frankie.'"

Good for them for saying something publicly, even (or especially) at a Netflix press event. But will it make a difference? Zap2it said Netflix had no comment when they asked for a response to the actress' claims. It would be nice for them to weigh in on this, one way or the other.

Pay disparity is, sadly, nothing new. It was only revealed through the Sony hacks that both Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams were paid less than their male counterparts for "American Hustle." The Hollywood Reporter just referenced that pay gap when noting why Jennifer Lawrence and her CAA reps were demanding $20 million for the movie "Passengers." They wrote that Lawrence "had gotten a smaller percentage of the profit pool from American Hustle than co-stars Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale and even Jeremy Renner. Lawrence - arguably the biggest star of the lot at the time - was getting seven points, while the men got nine each. As Sony president Doug Belgrad noted in a hacked email, 'It's a joke that JLa is at 7 and Renner is at 9.' Having not found that joke funny, sources say Lawrence was prepared to walk away from Passengers if she didn't get to $20 million on this film..."

It's a crime for Jennifer Lawrence to get less than Jeremy Renner, for that movie or any movie, and it's shameful if Tomlin and Fonda aren't getting top pay with their top billing. Keep fighting back, ladies!

Danny Trejo Is 'Having a Blast' Being an 'Adventures of Puss in Boots' Bad Guy

Posted:

Premiere Of Dimension Films' Danny Trejo is one of Hollywood's most prolific actors, having appeared in literally hundreds of projects since his career began in the early 1980s. The frequent Robert Rodriguez collaborator is often known for playing tough-as-nails badasses and grizzled villains, but that doesn't mean he shies away from the kid-friendly stuff.

One example is the Netflix's original animated series, "The Adventures of Puss in Boots," which follows the heroic moves of the swashbuckling feline we all know and love from "Shrek" and "Puss in Boots." OK, Trejo still plays the villain in this one. But this time he's a cartoon named "El Moco" -- and if you're not familiar with the Spanish language, the translation for El Moco is mucus. Yup, his character is pretty much named "booger."

New episodes of "The Adventures of Puss in Boots" start streaming May 8, so we got the chance to catch up with with Danny about his latest endeavors (and there are many.) We asked the legendary performer about being El Moco, his experience on the upcoming Adam Sandler Netflix comedy, "The Ridiculous 6," that now-viral "Brady Bunch" Snickers ad, and if we're ever going to get that "Machete Kills Again... In Space" movie. And if you thought he was busy with the dozens of film and TV projects on his plate, you should also know he's opening a taco restaurant this summer. He really does do it all, doesn't he?

Moviefone: Tell us a little bit about working on "The Adventures in Puss in Boots." What drew you to an animated project like this and to this character?

Danny Trejo: I've been having a blast playing a "booger." When my agent called me and told me I'd be playing a character called El Moco I just started laughing. I don't think anybody else has played a "booger" before.

Tell us a little bit more about El Moco and his relationship with Puss.

He's a very, very mean character. He's the perfect advisory for Puss in Boots. Puss in Boots has got to be super tough. And anybody who's got to be super tough has to have a super tough villain. That's why they called me!

What can we expect in this half of the season? How will El Moco get involved?

I can't give it all away, but basically he goes after Puss in Boots. And he goes after him in a very violent way. And you have to remember, anytime you do a cartoon, you have a fan for life. I did "Spy Kids" 14 years ago, and the kids who watched "Spy Kids" are now grown up and watching my R-rated movies.

You just finished filming another Netflix project -- Adam Sandler's comedy, "The Ridiculous 6."

It was so much fun. Adam Sandler (the film's writer) is just such a wonderful man, and so caring. He's on set and knows everyone's names and it's l'm thinking, wow! He'll never forget you.

What can you tell us your role and your experience filming? The movie has such a crazy cast.

First of all, I love westerns. And I play the leader of this really evil crew, like 15 bad guys. I'm just a bad, bad guy. I've got these gold teeth and this long hair and I ride this gorgeous horse. We're pillaging and running amuck and everything. Adam Sandler was great. Frank Coraci was the director, and he's such a wonderful guy. They love what they're doing. And I love to work with people who love what they're doing and haven't lost the passion.

One role I'm sure you thought you would never play is Marcia Brady in a Snickers commercial. How did that happen and are you a "Brady Bunch" fan?

They called me and said, "Danny, we've got a Super Bowl commercial." And I have to say it, that's bigger than the Oscars. More people watch the Super Bowl, except maybe the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight... That's the holy grail for an actor in a lot of ways. They said there's one catch: you have to play Marcia Brady. And I was like, "what?" Then I found out what they were going to pay me and I was like, "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia! I'll be Marcia Brady!" And then I found out one of my best friends, Steve Buscemi, was in it. It was a riot. That thing is it's still playing! I've gotten calls from all the over the world about it. Everybody grew up with "The Brady Bunch" and my kids used to watch it all the time.

What can you reveal about the next "Machete" movie? Are we going to get to see "Machete Kills Again... In Space" soon?

Yes! Robert [Rodriguez] is making the moves on it right now. And every time we have an idea about it we just call each other up and say, "what do you think of this?" and then go, "yeah! put that in there." And Robert just gets all these ideas and puts it all together to the movie.

What other projects are you working on?

I'm doing "From Dusk till Dawn: The Series" with Robert Rodriguez. Talk about something great. I'm working with some of my old friends, Wilmer Valderrama and Eiza González. We've been having a lot of fun doing that in Austin. And I'm getting ready to open a restaurant. A taco restaurant, Trejo's Tacos, right in Los Angeles on La Brea between Pico and Olympic. We've got every kind of taco. We've even got gluten free and vegetarian!

You have taken on so many roles throughout your career. Is there anything you haven't done that you would love to do?

You take what you get. I say I'm like a house painter. That's my job. I don't care what house I paint. I'll paint it the color you want. People say "I want to do this" or "I want to do that," but I'm working and working. And I love it.

"The Adventures of Puss in Boots" Season 1.5 is available for streaming on Netflix starting May 8. Check out an exclusive clip, below.

Top 10 Baby Names 2014: Does Emma Watson Deserve Credit for This?

Posted:

BRITAIN-FASHION-AWARDSCharlotte may be the new princess, but Emma is the new queen.

"Emma" reclaimed the throne as the No. 1 baby name for girls in 2014, the Social Security Administration announced today. Emma had not been on top since 2008, so what boosted her popularity? Vanity Fair wondered if perhaps Emma Stone or Emma Watson were responsible. We tend to credit the Hermione/Belle actress with everything, because one should, so we'll put the win in her column. (Sorry, Stone.)

Sophia had been the top girls name from 2011-2013, dethroning Isabella, which had a two-year run from 2009-2010. Emily dominated from 1996-2007 until Emma returned just for 2008. Check out the full stats from 1915-2014. No idea why this is fascinating but, admit it, it is.

The boys have a less interesting story, since Noah defended his spot as the No. 1 name, holding strong after more than a decade of Jacob dominance. The top few names for both genders haven't changed much, they're just in different orders each year. But we might see a change next year, after the 2015 birth of Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

Here are the top 10 male and female names of 2014:

1. Noah / Emma
2. Liam / Olivia
3. Mason / Sophia
4. Jacob / Isabella
5. William / Ava
6. Ethan / Mia
7. Michael / Emily
8. Alexander / Abigail
9. James / Madison
10. Daniel / Charlotte

Are Streaming Shows Really That Different From Network and Cable Shows?

Posted:

To many viewers, streaming is just TV on a different screen. After all, you can watch "Seinfeld" reruns as easily on Netflix as you can on TBS. But what if the relatively new medium of streaming TV means a different kind of show?

We're already starting to see something like that in the way that streaming picks up TV's cast-offs. Netflix resurrected "Arrested Development" after its three cultish but low-rated seasons on Fox. Yahoo did the same for NBC's cancelled "Community." And now, it looks like Hulu may be doing the same for "The Mindy Project," another cultish Fox comedy that held out against the Nielsen ratings for three seasons before getting the ax.

What do these shows have in common, besides not drawing enough viewers to stay on network TV? They're all the creations of idiosyncratic TV auteurs, writers who put their own offbeat, recognizable, personal stamp on the material. They're the kind of shows that are almost designed to be cult favorites, since they're likely to resonate with small but passionate followings. The networks' business model doesn't have much room for such niche audiences, unless they're affluent and attract free-spending sponsors. (Indeed, the Hollywood Reporter article about the possible "Mindy" move notes that the show was greenlit under a previous Fox regime that was willing to experiment with niche comedies, but the current Fox regime has a strategy that relies on shows with broader appeal.) But niche audiences are exactly who the streaming services cultivate, viewers who appreciate shows that are unique and buzzworthy, who are willing to binge-watch them, and who are eager to share their enthusiasm on social media. And with the pay-subscription model, the bar for popular success is a lot lower for streaming shows than for free, sponsor-supported network shows.

If Hulu does pick up "Mindy," it would be a smart move for a streaming site that, as this column noted last week, is trying hard to distinguish itself and to catch up to rivals Netflix and Amazon Prime. Hulu's big announcement last week, that it had paid a nine-figure fortune for the streaming rights to "Seinfeld," didn't seem like enough to do the job. Maybe that's because "Seinfeld" reruns are a quarter-century old and readily available in syndication on network and cable TV. But maybe it's also because "Seinfeld," groundbreaking as it was in the '90s, is still a conventional three-cameras-and-a-laughtrack sitcom, the kind we're used to from decades spent in front of the living-room TV. It's not the type of unique creation that will make Hulu stand out.

Is "Mindy"? Maybe. For one thing, it's a single-camera, no-laughtrack comedy. It has an unorthodox protagonist. It operates on a number of levels -- it's largely about spoofing the conventions of romantic comedy, but it's also about presenting a credible romance with realistic dramatic conflicts and resolutions, between characters you're encouraged to care about despite their jokey frivolity. Most of all, it's clearly the product of creator/star Mindy Kaling's unique sensibility.

Even so, Hulu may already be behind Amazon when it comes to attracting subscribers with deliberately eccentric shows. After all, Amazon is the site whose trademark show is "Transparent," which, besides being a multiple award-winning show about a family coping with a newly transgender patriarch, is the idiosyncratic and highly personal creation of veteran TV writer Jill Soloway. (Jeffrey Tambor's protagonist is based on Soloway's own father.) Amazon has also solicited shows from film auteurs known for their instantly recognizable personal styles and themes, including Spike Lee, Steven Soderbergh, David Gordon Green, Whit Stillman, and Woody Allen.

Amazon wants to make shows that are more than just the networks' castoffs. The retailer's streaming site goes out of its way to find shows that are unusual, even controversial, according to a new profile of Amazon Studios in New York magazine. "We really, really did not want to have a bunch of shows that seemed like the best shows that didn't make it onto CBS's or NBC's schedule," Amazon Studios chief Roy Price told New York. "Honestly, if you put together a network comprised of that kind of thing, no one would care about it. It wouldn't have some value. It would have no value."

In fact, Price greenlit "Transparent" despite its failure to pass muster on Amazon's you-choose-it pilot selection program (where viewers vote on which episodes of prospective shows they'd like to see become full series), Even though "Transparent" was pilot viewers' least favorite potential series, Price and his team knew it would be a show that would make Amazon stand out. That's the opposite of the ratings-driven decisions that TV programmers usually make. "There's something exciting about an idea that no sensible network executive would do," Price told New York. "That's an excellent sign that you're in uncharted waters. And that's where we should be."

Not every streaming show is going to be different from typical TV fare. Netflix has had a great deal of success with shows that could just as easily have run on network or cable. "House of Cards" would be at home on HBO (it could be the dramatic counterpoint to "Veep"), while "Orange Is the New Black" wouldn't be out of place on Showtime (home of "The L Word" and "OITNB" creator Jenji Kohan's "Weeds"). Tina Fey and Robert Carlock initially developed "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" for NBC, the network that aired the pair's quirky "30 Rock" for seven seasons despite its modest ratings. And "Marvel's Daredevil" could just as easily have run on ABC alongside "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." And Netflix viewers will soon be introduced to "Grace and Frankie" (the new Jane Fonda / Lily Tomlin dramedy from "Friends" co-creator Marta Kauffman that critics have described as a show that would have been at home on NBC in the 1990s) and "Sense8" (the new sci-fi drama from the Wachowskis that sounds a lot like NBC's "Heroes"). It's easy to imagine that the only thing these shows have that differentiate them from their TV counterparts is bigger budgets and lusher production values.

Right now, then, there's no one formula for a successful streaming show and no set of characteristics that distinguish streaming series from network and cable shows. The rules are still being written. Streaming is where premium cable was 25 years ago, when HBO and Showtime were niche services for affluent viewers willing to pay extra, and when both channels were still dipping their toes into original scripted programming. It took years for them to come up with signature, template-setting shows like "The Sopranos," "Sex and the CIty," and "The L Word." Still, what Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix all have is a willingness to experiment and to spend the cash that such experimentation requires. After they throw enough spaghetti at the wall, they'll figure out what sticks.

'The Walking Dead' Spinoff Adds Two (or Three) to Main Cast

Posted:

You didn't forget about "Fear the Walking Dead," did you? AMC just started filming "The Walking Dead" Season 6, which will premiere in October, but the spinoff series is also under way, with a summer premiere scheduled.

Two new names were recently confirmed for FTWD, with a strong hint to a third. Entertainment Weekly revealed that "Orange Is the New Black" actress Elizabeth Rodriguez is joining the new TWD show as a series regular. Deadline just updated that "666 Park Avenue" alum Mercedes Mason (also credited as "Masohn") would also be joining the show as a regular. They also noted, "I hear Ruben Blades is in talks to play her father." "In talks" isn't a done deal, but his name is now out there and it would be a surprise to see the "Safe House" star cut at this point.

So here's the current lineup:

  • Cliff Curtis as Sean Cabrera
  • Kim Dickens as Nancy Tomkins
  • Alycia Debnam-Carey as Ashley Tomkins
  • Frank Dillane as Nick Tomkins
  • Elizabeth Rodriguez
  • Mercedes Masohn
  • Ruber Blades (maybe)

A few other characters were revealed back in September but don't have official actors attached at this point.

"Fear the Walking Dead" is set in Los Angeles at the dawn of the zombie apocalypse, not that anyone is likely to call them "zombies" in this show either. It's meant to be very different from the main show and not really a traditional "spinoff" in that no one from the main show will be featured. As executive producer David Alpert told The Daily Beast back in March:

It's not quite a prequel. We're going to play with the timeline a little bit, so you'll be seeing things that you haven't seen on [The Walking Dead]. It's in an entirely different location-we shot the pilot in Los Angeles-and we're going to invest ourselves in these characters that are nuanced, detailed, and honestly really f--ked up and having these awful experiences between themselves, and trying to find a way, as a lot of us do. You have an ex-wife, you have an ex-husband, and you're trying to find out, 'How do I pick up the kids from school?' and just when you think you can barely hold on, zombies start coming. [...] There's going to be six seconds that reference the mother show. Six seconds. Other than that, the show will be an entirely stand-alone thing. The rules will be the same: zombies don't talk, and there will be no zombie animals. But other than that, as far as references and things, there will only be a few Easter eggs-and those six seconds."

FTWD production started in L.A. then filming reportedly moved to Vancouver. Six episodes will premiere in summer 2015 (no official date yet) and AMC already gave the thumbs up to Season 2 for 2016. Are you in?

The 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Spinoff Is Apparently Dead

Posted:

Never mind about that "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." spinoff with Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood. No need to leave space for it in your 2015-2016 TV calendar after all. According to Deadline -- which told everyone about the Palicki and Blood plans in April -- ABC and Marvel won't be moving forward with the new show.

It's a not-too-surprising call, since both "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Agent Carter" were just picked up for new seasons and many fans agree that it's too soon for a "S.H.I.E.L.D." spinoff, especially one that would take away two popular characters, exes Lance Hunter and Barbara "Bobbi" Morse (a.k.a. Mockingbird).

However, here's an interesting tease, which Deadline threw at the end of their report: "ABC and Marvel also are secretly working on a potential series with John Ridley, who will be busy with a second installment of American Crime, just picked up by the network." So this Marvel series is dead, but long live another Marvel series ... eventually? What do you think about all of these Marvel adaptations -- the more the merrier or should they slow down before it's overload?

List of TV Shows Just Canceled or Renewed By ABC and The CW

Posted:

As you read this, the 2015-2016 fate of a TV show is likely being decided. A ton of info will be coming out in the next week or so on various series orders, renewals, and cancellations, but here's the latest intel on what ABC and The CW just dumped and renewed within the last day.

THE CW

Canceled
"Hart of Dixie"
"The Messengers"

Renewed
"iZombie"

ABC

Canceled
"Cristela"
"Forever"
"Resurrection"
"Revenge"
"The Taste"

Unclear
"Last Man Standing"

Renewed
"20/20"
"American Crime"
"America's Funniest Home Videos"
"The Bachelor"
"Beyond the Tank"
"Black-ish"
"Castle"
"Dancing with the Stars"
"Fresh Off the Boat"
"Galavant"
"The Goldbergs"
"Grey's Anatomy"
"How to Get Away with Murder"

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
"The Middle"
"Modern Family"
"Nashville"
"Once Upon a Time"
"Scandal"
"Secrets and Lies"
"Shark Tank"

Poor Ioan Gruffudd had a strong reaction to the death of his show "Forever" after just one season. Gotta give it up to "Grey's Anatomy" for lasting 12 seasons, and "Dancing With the Stars" will see its 21st season this fall. Impressive. It's good to see "Galavant" returning, and hopefully it will pick up even more fans in Season 2. That one's a keeper.

Stay tuned for more updates, and cross your fingers for your favorite shows to survive...

Premiere Of Open Road Films' You could argue that "Fifty Shades of Grey" is already a comedy spoof of itself, but now Marlon Wayans is getting in on the act with "Fifty Shades of Black." Wayans is no stranger to these kinds of parodies -- see "Scary Movie," don't see "Scary Movie 2" -- and "Fifty Shades" has enough juicy material to make a good spoof.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wayans will star and write with Rick Alvarez, with production starting soon and an early 2016 release planned. This project will reunite the "Haunted House" franchise team, so ... just know that going in. Wayans said, in a statement, "We're excited to be back in business with IM Global doing our comedic remix of this movie. Sex and comedy go hand-in-hand and I'm looking forward to having fun with this project. It's amazing when a film of this caliber comes along begging to be made fun of. I'm really happy to be doing what I love with people I love to do it with. That double entendre was intentional." Expect a lot more of it!

Wayans posted this shot on Instagram to promote the movie:

Check it out! Just announced my next movie FIFTY SHADES OF BLACK coming soon... http://bit.ly/1P4i9J6 what do you think?

'Shaken' Ioan Gruffudd Reacts to 'Forever' Cancellation With Candid Post to Fans

Posted:

"Forever" isn't as long as it used to be. ABC just canceled Ioan Gruffudd's supernatural drama after its first season. "Forever" wasn't the only show to get the chop -- "Cristela," "Resurrection," and "The Taste" were also let go -- but fans were devastated to not see Gruffudd's show among the many renewals. Apparently the "Forever" cancellation was a shock to the main star and hit him hard. His wife was the one to first break the news, before he had a chance to gather himself and decide what to say: When Gruffudd did share his reaction, via an Instagram post, it was as candid, touching, and beautiful as fans would hope:

My dear friends, fans, supporters.

Tonight, as you all now know, I received a phone call that I was hoping not to receive, and to be honest I really wasn't expecting it. I knew the numbers hadn't been great, but I also knew the studio and the network both loved the show, and of course that it had an incredible fan base...so I thought we were in with a pretty good chance.

But sadly no, this time the cards weren't dealt in our favor. Show business is like that. Hell, life is like that. You ride to the top of the wave and then you come crashing down again. I asked Alice to send out the sad news because I was a little bit shaken up and needed time to gather my thoughts.

So I sat down and started reading the thousands of Tweets in response to the announcement. And the more I read, the more I couldn't believe it. The love, the sense of solidarity, the hope, the kindness, the support. Not just for the show, but for each other. And slowly I began to focus on what we had gained in the past year, rather than what we had lost in the last five minutes. I was overcome by a sense of gratitude. To have met you all and to have you all rooting for me and the show. At having a chance to play the role of my dreams, even if it was only for a year. To have been given the chance to bring Henry to life.

Watching the interaction of the FOREVER fans come together and share their love for the show has been breath-taking. It was you guys who held me up when I thought I could no longer go on. (Those days were LONG!) You made me smile when you pointed out the little things I did on screen that I thought had gone unnoticed. You gave me confidence when I accidentally found myself reading less than shining reviews. You were always with me, every step of the way, waving your flags, shouting your support for the show. It's been an incredible, wonderful year, one that I will never, ever forget.

And guess what? The memories belong to us. We get to keep them 'forever!' Thanks again a million times for your unwavering support. Stay strong, be brave, and show kindness as often as you can!

Ioan xxx

How beautiful, and yet so sad -- and ironic for a show about an immortal man to be killed in its infancy. RIP, Dr. Henry Morgan.

Stephen Merchant's 'Dirrty' 'Lip Sync Battle' Dance Is Too Nasty to Miss

Posted:

When it comes to actual lip sync talent - if there is such a thing - Malin Akerman won last night's "Lip Sync Battle." Hands down. She was, as Chrissy Teigen put it, "the most adorable gangster" in her "Talk Dirty" performance. "She looks like if American Girl dolls made a thug Samantha."

Akerman, who leads Yahoo's new "Sin City Saints" cast, was legit sexy and had some real dance moves. But Stephen Merchant, co-creator of "The Office" and star of "Hello Ladies," won the night from here just for the, um, balls to show up in those leather chaps with "Nasty" on the back and some extra business in the front.

He kind of lip synched to Xtina's "Dirry," but mostly he just awkwardly jerked his tall British body into various positions. At the end of the dance, Akerman said she loved what was happening around the chaps, asking if that was a sock down his pants. He answered by reaching down, pulling out the sock and flinging it at Chrissy Teigen. Teigen decided the thing to do was pick it up and sniff it. That was gross, and she admitted as much. But when you're doin' the "Dirty"/"Dirrty" dance off, you have to go with the flow.

Best of Late Night TV: Tina Fey's Last Dress and Matthew Weiner's Mad Men Spoiler

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Tina Fey is taking a stand against dresses! This comedy legend visited "The Late Show" and vowed never to wear a dress on a talk show again. Annnnd, then she stripped off her outfit and revealed a custom made set of Spanx that said "BYE DAVE." You're welcome, world.Jimmy Kimmel sounded off on Kylie Jenner's lips (she recently admitted to having fillers), and he didn't hold back. Zingers include: "I always thought her lips swelled up because she was allergic to something, like work" and "it's kinda like the Smurfs finally admitting to being blue."
'Jimmy Kimmel Live!': Kylie Jenner Lied About Her Lips
In the mood to watch Jane Fonda's disembodied head deliver facts on Uranus (among other subjects with Jimmy Fallon? Cool, us too. Watch this video to be vaguely creeped-out and more-that-vaguely amused.Guys, "The Tonight Show" is so jealous they didn't think of this game. Watch Helen Hunt and Nicholas Hoult (weirdest pairing ever) figure out whether they're looking at real Google auto-completes or fake ones made up by James Corden's hilarious writing team!Last but not least, Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner stopped by "Conan" and shut down a popular theory as to how the show ends: Don Draper will not be morphing into D.B. Cooper and jumping off a plane. However, he might be turning into a watermelon and hurling himself off a building. The more you know.

Recap of 'The Blacklist' Season 2 Episode 21

Posted:

THE BLACKLIST --
So much is happening on "The Blacklist," and by "so much," we definitely mean that a) Raymond Reddington literally refuses to stop wearing a fedora no matter how much we complain, and b) there's a creepy political sector in the U.S. government (headed up by The Director) and they want to start another world war. The only people who can stop these well-dressed haters? Red and Elizabeth, obviously!

The Director Stages A Terrorist Attack, Remains Creepy and Evil While Doing So

Ugh, The Director. This nefarious power-player decided to start this week's episode with a casual terrorist attack, but the catch? He hires a creepy Russian assassin named Karakurt so the USofA will blame Moscow, which means war is imminent. Naturally, everyone's favorite father-daughter(ish) duo, Red and Elizabeth, join forces to find Karakurt -- with the help of their buddies at the FBI task force.

Here's the deal: Liz and Ressler (aka her FBI partner who totally wishes he was her IRL partner) head to the Russian Counter-Intelligence department to get scoop on Karakurt, and while there they find out that Liz's super-spy mom is a legend who may have never existed -- which means either Red is lying or Liz's mom is insanely cool.

Meanwhile, Red discovers that Karakurt is making a giant bomb, and it happens to explode directly outside the Russian Counter-Intelligence building as Liz and her starry-eyed FBI buddy are leaving. Whoops.

Cooper Comes Clean To Reddington, Liz Accidentally Murders Someone

Remember last week when the Attorney General was like, "BTW, I'm totally evil and working for The Director, LOL"? Yeah, well this week the AG asks Cooper to ignore Red's leads and instead send his task force on a redundant mission to Union Station. Fortunately, Cooper comes clean to Red and they hatch a plan: Cooper will continue to play ball with the AG, and report everything he says back to Red. So, basically Cooper went from being bossed around by one terrorist to being bossed around by another (former) terrorist. Poor guy needs to find himself a new line of work.

Meanwhile, Red figures out that The Director has created a horrible virus made to attack one specific mystery person. But who? Well, thanks to Aram's nerd skills, the team learns that The Director is targeting an anti-Russia senator in the hopes that his murder will lead to all-out war. Tragically, Liz doesn't save this poor guy in time, but here's the real kicker -- turns out she's the one who gives him the virus! Yep, The Director sets Liz up as a Russian spy, and plans to use her KGB lineage to support his claims. We've said it once and we'll say it again: What. Is. Happening.

Tom Keen Is The Most Tragic Character On This Show, That Is All

Wondering what's up with Liz and her estranged husband, Tom Keen? They're kind of on track to getting back together, by which we mean Tom spends a lot of time staring dreamily into Liz's eyes. The good news is that she seems to enjoy the attention. The bad news is that she's a wanted Russian terrorist. #PrayersForTom #SaddestBroOnEarth

And now, some burning questions!

1. What's the deal with Liz's mom -- was she a terrorist or just a good ol' fashioned spy? And why is it so important that Liz be shielded from her past?
2. Liz is a wanted criminal, and we assume she'll spend "The Blacklist's" finale running from her friends in the FBI. Will they have her back, or haul her off to jail?
3. Will Red finally tell Liz what happened on the night of the fire at her family home? And more importantly, will he reveal himself to be her father? Because if so, tears of joy.
