Marvel Studios Countdown: Meet the Bad Guys of 'Captain America: Civil War' Posted: 18 May 2015 10:00 PM PDT This week, Captain America: Civil War set photos revealed Frank Grillo in costume as Captain America villain Crossbones. We last saw Grillo as disgraced SHIELD agent Brock Rumlow with his broken body loaded into an ambulance during the finale of Winter Soldier. Astute Marvel fans knew that wouldn’t be the last we’d see of Rumlow and Civil War looks to deliver on the promise of introducing one of Cap’s biggest pains into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s not alone. Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds) is confirmed to play Baron Zemo in Civil War, a character known to comic readers as Cap’s number two archenemy right after Red Skull. If Red Skull is off the table after his denouement in The First Avenger, then we are more than fine with Zemo coming... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Film Face-off: 'The Road Warrior' vs. 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Posted: 18 May 2015 09:00 PM PDT The Mad Max trilogy is one of the most beloved franchises in Hollywood. Or is it? Mad Max (1979) is a quiet burn with not a tremendous amount going on. The 1985 film Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdome proved that Tina Turner's song saying "We Don't Need Another Hero," was right. Right? But then there was the 1982 movie Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. It sits at 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but I worried that was nostalgia talking. Now we have Mad Max: Fury Road directed by George Miller, the same guy who did the Happy Feet movies (and the original Mad Max films). So, realizing there will never be a better time to rewatch The Road Warrior and then compare it to Max Mad: Fury Road, that's exactly what I did. Two films enter, one movie leaves. The Mad... Watch: Anna Kendrick Stars in the Female Version of 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade' Posted: 18 May 2015 08:00 PM PDT Let's congratulate Pitch Perfect 2 on its amazing $70 million opening weekend. And then how about we finally recognize that a movie centered on women characters and directed by a woman can be a success and it's not a fluke at all. But at the same, let's finally get over the trend toward making all-female versions of other movies. You know, the idea to remake or spin-off from The Expendables and Ghostbusters and 21 Jump Street and whatever else, just with actresses in all of the main roles instead of actors. We don't need to force those shoes onto women. They can simply have their own shoes, right? Not that we wouldn't mind seeing Anna Kendrick in a gender-swapped reboot of the Indiana Jones franchise. But we'd watch her in just about... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
You've Seen 'Fury Road' -- Now Celebrate 'The Road Warrior' in Comic Strip Form Posted: 18 May 2015 06:00 PM PDT Mad Max: Fury Road isn't the first time we've seen Mad Max sacrifice his well-being to protect a tanker truck full of treasured cargo. 1981's The Road Warrior (the second Mad Max film) provides the foundation that Fury Road is built upon, showcasing George Miller's masterful skills at directing action decades before Tom Hardy filled Max's leather boots. Fury Road is definitely the goods, but in case you needed any reminding, Road Warrior was also the goods... Early 'Inside Out' Reactions Call It One of Pixar's Best Posted: 18 May 2015 04:55 PM PDT Pixar has been in sequel mode for a few years now, with only one of their last four movies being an original. That's not a terrible thing considering a Pixar sequel is still miles better than most animated movies, but it does send fans yearning to discover the next Wall-E or Up. Pixar is breaking that sequel streak this year with not only one, but two new, original movies, this summer's Inside Out and this fall's The Good Dinosaur. The former, a film about a young girl as told through the emotions inside her head, has enjoyed its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and the early reactions are overwhelmingly positive. In fact, some go on to call it one of the studio's best movies. High praise, but the reviews do try to back it... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
The 5 Best Moments in 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Posted: 18 May 2015 03:00 PM PDT Last week, we assembled a list of the 10 best moments from the original Mad Max trilogy. And then Mad Max: Fury Road officially opened, film lovers all over the world lost their collective minds, and that list suddenly needed an update. Rather than tamper with that list, we decided the best course of action would be to talk about the best moments from the fourth film in George Miller's astonishing series on its own terms. Picking only five best moments from one of the best action movies ever made (we watched it twice to make sure) was about as difficult as picking 10 moments from the first three movies, but we managed. Spoilers for Mad Max: Fury Road follow! 5. The Sandstorm Almost every trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road concluded with the stunning image of a... Posted: 18 May 2015 01:00 PM PDT Matthew McConaughey: Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey (above in Interstellar) says that he's "circled" the possibility of appearing in a superhero movie. "I've read some Marvel and DC scripts," he stated. "I’ve talked about working with them on some scripts. … nothing has been right for me yet. But I’m sure open to it." He added: "It starts with the story and character." [Variety] Manchester-by-the-Sea: The first look at Michelle Williams and Casey Affleck in Manchester-by-the-Sea reveals them as pensive characters. The drama deals with the consequences after a family member dies; Williams plays Affleck's estranged wife; Kyle Chandler co-stars as Affleck's brother. Matt Damon is...
