The Geek Beat: How Did The Oscars Treat This Year's Geeky Movie Nominees? Posted: 01 Mar 2016 09:00 PM PST Another Academy Awards ceremony has come and gone, and now that the dust has settled, it's time to take a long, hard look at how this year's nominees from the geek-friendly film world fared. The Oscars haven't exactly been kind to science-fiction, fantasy, and superhero movies over the years, but the response to what's generally considered to be geeky movie fare has grown a little warmer lately, with films like The Dark Knight and The Lord of the Rings trilogy creeping into the Academy Award conversation in recent years. Compared to past Oscar ceremonies, this year's event was practically brimming with geek-positive cinema, from Ex Machina and Mad Max: Fury Road to The Martian and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. So how did the films do? Well, that depends on... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey Confirmed for 'The Dark Tower' - Here's Everything We Know So Far Posted: 01 Mar 2016 07:30 PM PST The Dark Tower series is not just Stephen King's grand opus, it's also one of the most beloved fantasy series ever written. It's a dense, complicated and, frankly, weird story that sprawls across eight novels that were written over the course of three decades. Hollywood has been trying to adapt it for years and now it is finally, truly happening. Entertainment Weekly reports The Dark Tower will begin filming in South Africa in just seven weeks. While that news is great for those who just want to see someone try to tackle it on the big screen, not everyone is rejoicing. Some of the casting choices have divided fans, as has the choice of what book to adapt first. Before you default to outrage, though, let's take a look at what we actually know. First... Well that's all changed now, as the film -- humorously titled Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (a clear parody of Justin Bieber's Never Say Never) -- has finally released its title and first teaser poster. Check it out... The first synopsis for the film has dropped, too, teasing a music spoof about an artist (Samberg) who must navigate a "crisis of popularity" after his sophomore album flops. New 'Captain America: Civil War' Images Tease a Massive Battle Between Superheroes Posted: 01 Mar 2016 12:00 PM PST The upcoming Captain America: Civil War will see superheroes pitted against superheroes, which should prove to be an interesting dilemma for movie fans who have been rooting for their favorite superpowered characters to defeat villainous foes. The movie begins where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, with Steve Rogers, aka Captain America (Chris Evans), training a new team of Avengers to defend mankind. But a major incident occurs and involves more collateral damage, leading national governments to insist on a new system of accountability for the Avengers. Captain America resists the idea, while Tony Stark, aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), is rather surprisingly in favor of government oversight. We've already had peeks at the many heroes who will be fighting with and... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
