How Did DC Comics Writers and Artists React to 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'? Posted: 29 Mar 2016 10:00 PM PDT I reached out to several writers and artists from DC Comics to get their take on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Their reactions were mostly positive, at least from those who actually saw the movie. A surprising amount of artists are abstaining from it altogether. Bill Messner-Loebs (Writer/Artist: on Wonder Woman, Flash, Justice League) "All the mainstream reporters, even as they mention the huge box office opening, can't keep from saying how much the critics hated it. Every Science Fiction or Superhero movie gets the same treatment, until success and age scrubs away the stain of popularity." Jerry Ordway (Writer/Artist: Adventures of Superman, Power of Shazam!, Justice Society of America) "I really enjoyed the movie, with some... Posted: 29 Mar 2016 08:30 PM PDT In anticipation of the digital HD release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Friday, April 1 via the brand new FandangoNOW VOD platform, we sat down with Force Awakens sound editor Matthew Wood and visual effects supervisor Roger Guyett to discuss some of the cooler things that went on behind the scenes while crafting one of the most successful films ever made. Like how they went about creating BB-8's voice. According to Wood, director J.J. Abrams was adamant right from the start that they had to differentiate BB-8 from R2-D2. "J.J. kept saying that if you're sitting in a room and you hear BB-8 outside coming down a hallway, you want to know that's BB-8 and not some average droid," Wood explains. In order to inject BB-8 with its own personality... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
New 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' Trailer Unleashes Colorful Madness on Wonderland Posted: 29 Mar 2016 06:45 PM PDT Every now and then there are movies that make a ton of money and yet don't really seem to leave much of a dent on the cinematic landscape or pop culture in general. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland was that kind of movie. It made over $1 billion world wide back in 2010, but no one ever really talks about it except when referencing yet another wacky performance from Johnny Depp. But it's pretty much impossible that a movie makes that much money and doesn't get a sequel (the only movie to make more than a billion and not start a franchise is, understandably, Titanic) and so here we are six years later with Alice Through the Looking Glass. Tim Burton did not return to direct this entry (The Muppets' James Bobin took over), but the entire cast is back. It even... The Geek Beat: How WB and the Justice League Can Turn Things Around for DC's Movie Universe Posted: 29 Mar 2016 05:10 PM PDT At this point, it seems pretty accurate to call Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice one of the most polarizing superhero movies we've seen since, well... Man of Steel. Audiences either love the film or hate it with equal amounts of fervor, and critics have panned it to the point of putting Dawn of Justice in the ranks of some of the worst comic-book movies ever made. And looming over all of the discussion is the specter of what's to come – specifically, Justice League Part One. Given all of the controversy surrounding Batman V. Superman, it's understandable if comic fans are feeling a little anxious about the superhero team's big-screen debut in 2017. After all, the environment surrounding the DC Comics movie-verse has only become more tense and fractured... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Superhero Buzz: Ben Affleck Teases Another DC Project; Watch New 'Lego Batman Movie' Teaser Posted: 29 Mar 2016 01:30 PM PDT Opinions about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have varied widely, yet nearly everyone agrees that Ben Affleck delivers an entirely convincing performance as Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. We know that Affleck will return as the Dark Knight in Suicide Squad and the two Justice League movies, but what about that long-rumored solo Batman movie? Short answer: we don't know yet. We first heard the rumor in June 2014 and since then rumors have swirled periodically about the prospective solo movie, centering on whether Affleck might direct it and when we might expect it to fly into theaters. We've also heard rumors that comic book veteran (and Chief Creative Officer at DC Comics) Geoff Johns would be cowriting the script with Affleck. While Affleck said he was open to the idea of...
