Olivia Wilde Says She Was Deemed 'Too Old' to Star in 'Wolf of Wall Street' Posted: And they say it's hard for women over 40 to get good roles in Hollywood. Apparently, it's just as difficult for those approaching 30. On "The Howard Stern Show," Olivia Wilde revealed that she was turned down for the role of Naomi Lapaglia in "The Wolf of Wall Street," the wife of Leonardo DiCaprio's Jordan Belfort, which eventually went to Margot Robbie. Wilde's agent told her she was too "sophisticated" for the part. "I was like, oh, that sounds nice ... and then I found out later that they actually said 'old,'" she recounted. "'Sophisticated' might be a code word in Hollywood — for 'old.'" At the time, Wilde was 28. Robbie was 22, and 16 years younger than DiCaprio (in real life, the characters are nearly the same age). Wilde isn't sweating it, though. In fact, she didn't have to audition for her starring role in HBO's "Vinyl" since Martin Scorsese had already seen her "Wolf of Wall Street" tryout. And on Twitter, the actress called out her praise of Robbie's performance:

The Rock and Kevin Hart Fight Bad Guys in 'Central Intelligence' Trailer Posted: Bullies, beware — Kevin Hart and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson are gunning for you. Warner Bros. released the first full trailer for the action-comedy "Central Intelligence," featuring more explosions, jokes, and flashback footage than last fall's teaser. The little glimpse we got of Johnson as a fat kid in high school gets bigger play here, as the trailer shows Hart as the only one to stand up to his bullies. Calvin (Hart) runs into his high school acquaintance, Bob (Johnson), who has lost 200 pounds, gained a lot of muscle, and works as a CIA operative. But he actually needs Calvin's expertise as an accountant after an enemy of the state steals top-secret info from the government. The full trailer shows more of the chemistry between the two actors, which goes beyond the admittedly-funny tag line incorporating their names ("a little Hart ... and a big Johnson"). Hart plays the straight man, while Johnson looks like he's having a blast doing comedy. "Central Intelligence" opens in theaters June 17. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'Now You See Me 2' Trailer Dazzles With New Magic Tricks Posted: And for their next trick, the Four Horseman are going to out-magic Harry Potter! The new international trailer for "Now You See Me 2" was just released, and provides more footage than last fall's teaser. The magic gorup Four Horseman are making a comeback, but soon get caught up in international intrigue thanks to the villainous Morgan Freeman (who might be in every trailer today). They're blackmailed into helping tech genius Daniel Radcliffe with the heist of a key to every computer system in the world. The first "Now You See Me" was an improbable hit, and the sequel seems to have more of the same — sleight-of-hand card tricks, illusions, and jokey stunts. Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Dave Franco return as three of the Horseman, while Lizzy Caplan stars as the new "girl Horseman." "Now You See Me 2" opens in theaters June 10. Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer Love Being 'Badass Women' in 'Allegiant' Posted: Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer are actresses with three Oscar nominations and one win between them, so what drew them to a movie adaptation of a YA novel? Why Steven Yeun Thinks Negan's 'Walking Dead' Arrival Is 'F--king Awesome' Posted: Steven Yeun (Glenn Rhee) appears to be the only cast member on "The Walking Dead" not traumatized by the very thought of the Season 6 finale, which is when we're expected to first meet Jeffrey Dean Morgan's mega-villain, Negan.
So that has some fans thinking they won't kill Glenn, but we're now more convinced than ever that they will kill him. If it weren't Glenn, Yeun would probably give the same traumatized quotes as the other actors, or it might seem disrespectful of whoever leaves. Plus, this is a massive, iconic, memorable death that the show has been building toward for a while. It may be disappointing, not just for fans, but for Yeun himself, for Glenn not to go out that way. For all we know, Yeun may have been planning for this moment as the natural end to Glenn's story, and also as a chance to work in films and other projects beyond the awesomeness of TWD. Plus, they've foreshadowed Maggie's power rise at Hilltop, which -- in the comic -- is a direct result of what happens with Glenn. Then again, is killing Glenn too obvious now? They have *almost* killed Glenn so many times that if they actually do it, it will become another joke that maybe he's not really dead. And if he does stay dead, it probably won't have the same impact that it would've had if they hadn't done that annoying fake-out earlier in Season 6. What do you think: Will Negan kill Glenn in the finale? If not him, then who? Daryl, who isn't even in the comic? Carol? Other? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Morgan Freeman Is the Chariot Whisperer in First 'Ben-Hur' Remake Trailer Posted: Boardwalk Empire" star Jack Houston steps into Charlton Heston's sandals in the first trailer for the "Ben-Hur" remake. Directed by Timur Bekmambetov ("Wanted"), the film also stars Morgan Freeman, who plays Ildarin -- the man responsible for teaching Judah Ben-Hur (Houston) how to be the best chariot racer in the land. (So it's "Gladiator," but with a Biblical setting, basically.) Expect the new movie to give a very action-ized take on the original's epic chariot race. The 2016 film is also expected to be more faithful to the original 1880 novel by Lew Wallace, with more emphasis placed on the friendship between Ben-Hur and Messala (Toby Kebbell), before the latter's betrayal. Watch the trailer above. "Ben-Hur" hits theaters August 12. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Melissa McCarthy's Teeth Are Ready for Their Close-up in 'The Boss' Sneak Peek Posted: Upcoming comedy "The Boss" takes a look at what happens when Michelle Darnell (Melissa McCarthy), the richest woman in America, goes to prison, loses her empire, and has to rebuild with only her put-upon assistant, Claire (Kristen Bell), by her side. In this clip, premiering today on Moviefone, we get a glimpse at what life was like for Michelle before her world came crashing down, and how it's easy to treat people terribly when you have exorbitant amounts of money. The clip features Claire wrestling with Michelle to prepare her for a media appearance, and Michelle is anything but cooperative, refusing to hold still as Claire attempts to apply some teeth whitener. Michelle and her bodyguard, Tito (the always funny Cedric Yarbrough, of "Reno 911!" fame), accuse Claire of being "hangry," and tease her about how funny she is when she's mad. "It's like that classic comedy gag, 'He's on my baseball!'" Michelle says through her mouth guard, a (very wrong) reference to the Abbott and Costello bit "Who's on First." After all this abuse, we're surprised Claire is willing to stick around Michelle when she's released from prison, but that tension should make for some great comedy. We can't wait to see how the rest of the flick plays out. "The Boss" hits theaters on April 8. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Game of Thrones' Star Tells Fans to Get a Life: 'It's Only Tits and Dragons' Posted: If you want to win the "Game of Thrones," you don't play nice. The best way is to be as funny as Tyrion Lannister, as foul-mouthed as The Hound, and as badass as Arya Stark. So Ian McShane can spoil whatever he bloody hell wants about the show he'll be on for one episode in Season 6 -- he just won the whole game with "tits and dragons." Come on, it's gold!
He may not die at the end, that's not always the way it works, but his casual attitude -- I'll just go on the most popular show in the world to hang out with old friends, oh are they not on anymore? -- is so too-cool-for-school it has actually won some fans over. Of course, some fans are offended and think he's being an "arrogant arsehole," but if we all agreed on everything, life would be boring. "Game of Thrones" Season 6 premieres Sunday, April 24 on HBO. Miles Teller's Pants Ripped in the Worst Way While Making 'Allegiant' Posted: While Peter and Christina may not get along in "The Divergent Series: Allegiant," Miles Teller and Zoe Kravitz can't get enough of each other. Moviefone sat down with the two, shared some laughs at Miles's expense, and found out what they would genetically enhance if they had the chance. Paul Rudd Auditioned for Jack in 'Titanic': Watch Him Recreate Iconic Scene Posted: Oh, Paul Rudd, you would've shined up like a new penny as Jack Dawson. Wonder Woman Gal Gadot Grills Jimmy Kimmel About Her Breasts Posted: It's not easy to make Jimmy Kimmel blush, but Gal Gadot caught him off guard last night on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." The stunning Israeli actress -- whose name is pronounced Gal (like gal vs guy) GuhDOTTTT (hard T) -- plays Wonder Woman in both "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which comes out next week, and "Wonder Woman," which is filming right now for release in 2017. Gal first joked that it was sad that Jimmy was cut from "Batman v Superman" (see this story for hilarious reference) and said he should be in "Wonder Woman." Jimmy said he could be her love interest instead of Chris Pine, but she wasn't so sure about that. Jimmy told her he saw "Batman v Superman" and knows how serious comic book nerds can be, since he's one of them. That's when Gal made him blush by quipping, "Oh, what did you think about my breasts?" Jimmy: "What?!" She said it very sweetly, and seemed to think that was the natural direction of the conversation, since he mentioned comic book fans, and she knows one of the complaints about her casting was that she was considered too thin and not voluptuous enough for the character. Jimmy used the moment to do some research and stared at her chest. He said he had no problem with her breasts, he had questions about Wonder Woman's costume. The conversation continued to be great from there. Watch the video: How can you not love her? She makes her debut as Wonder Woman in BvS, which is coming out Friday, March 25. 12 Times Chris Traeger Was Literally the Best Part of 'Parks and Recreation' Posted: "Parks and Recreation" said goodbye in 2015, but we'll never forget the people of Pawnee who somehow made local government funny. Here are 12 times Chris Traeger was LITERALLY our favorite person on "Parks and Rec." This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Robert Downey Jr: 'Iron Man 4' Isn't Coming ... Unless You Count 'Civil War' Posted: Robert Downey Jr. has no plans for a fourth "Iron Man" movie, but he also admits that the movie coming out this May 6, "Captain America: Civil War," is part Iron Man solo film and part "Avengers" movie, while ostensibly being a Captain America standalone. No wonder it's reportedly Marvel's longest movie to date! RDJ addressed the "Iron Man 4" idea in an interview with USA Today, telling them it would be great, but "I don't think that's in the cards." He added, of "Civil War," "In a way it's Cap 3, but for me it's like my little Iron Man 4, and then it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes." It does seem like Cap vs. Iron Man is basically half an Iron Man movie. And it's not a shock to hear that Marvel isn't working on ID4, since RDJ said in 2014 that there were no plans to do another one. Oh well. It's not like Tony Stark is going away (right?), and neither is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase Three starts with "Civil War" and continues with "Doctor Strange," "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," "Spider-Man," "Thor: Ragnarok," "Black Panther," the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War" movies, "Ant-Man and the Wasp," "Captain Marvel," etc. Are you disappointed that there's no "Iron Man 4" coming? At least there are no reboot plans... On a scale of 1 to 10, how loud would you scream if Marvel turned around one day and did a "young Tony Stark" origin story thing, with another actor as Iron Man? 'V for Vendetta': 10 Things You (Probably) Didn't Know About the Controversial Film Posted: "V for Vendetta" has only come to look more prophetic in the decade since its release on March 17, 2006. The adaptation of the Alan Moore/David Lloyd graphic novel, starring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman as a vengeful anarchist and his protege fighting a fascist government in a near-future England, proved to be the biggest critical and commercial success for producers the Wachowskis since "The Matrix." It also popularized the Guy Fawkes mask that has been a favorite of real-life protesters worldwide. As iconic as the movie became, "Vendetta" ran into numerous obstacles during its production -- and many controversies upon its release. Here are ten things you need to know about the fan-favorite. 1. After making three "Matrix" movies, Andy and Larry Wachowski (now Lilly and Lana, respectively) dusted off a screenplay for "Vendetta" they'd written years earlier, before they had the clout to make it. Wanting a break from directing, they produced the film, but handed over the director's chair to James McTeigue, who'd been their first assistant director on the "Matrix" films. 2. James Purefoy was cast as V, but left the film six weeks into production because he was having difficulty giving his entire performance from behind a mask. "Matrix" villain Weaving replaced him and said he drew upon the mask training he'd done at drama school. 3. Portman, whose orphaned Evey is rescued and indoctrinated by V, gets her head shaved in the film. And Portman did indeed get shorn for real on camera. 4. Portman worked with McTeigue before, when he was the first AD on "Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones." 5. Many indoor scenes were filmed at Germany's Babelsberg studio, where Fritz Lang shot the landmark "Metropolis" -- another story of a future underground revolt against oppression -- almost 80 years earlier.6. The movie's climax (pictured), involving thousands of masked rebels marching in London's Whitehall area, required the neighborhood to be cleared after midnight for four nights of filming. It was a first for the district, home to Trafalgar Square, the prime minister's residence and the Houses of Parliament. Co-star Stephen Fry joked that production assistant Euan Blair, son of then-prime minister Tony Blair, pulled strings to get the necessary clearances. 7. The finished film was also criticized for plot points that seemed to echo the London subway bombings, which occurred as the movie was being edited in 2005. "There are tragic events you can in no way condone," McTeigue said of the movie's life-imitates-art moments. "But what's interesting about this film is that it asks questions about why these things happen." 8. As he had with other movie projects based on his writings, including "From Hell" and "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" (and later, "Watchmen"), Alan Moore disavowed the movie, asked to have his name removed from the credits, and refused to accept royalties. Moore complained that the screenplay, which he had nothing to do with writing, had Hollywood-ized his story and turned what had been a jeremiad against Margaret Thatcher's regime into an American allegory about George W. Bush. 9. The film cost a reported $54 million to make. It earned back $70.5 million in America and another $62 million overseas. 10. The Guy Fawkes masks Lloyd designed for the book -- and the film -- became a symbol and tool beloved by protesters the world over. They were especially prominent during the Occupy Wall Street protests in 2011. "The Guy Fawkes mask has now become a common brand and a convenient placard to use in protest against tyranny," observed Lloyd, who visited the OWS sit-in at New York's Zuccotti Park and saw his handiwork up close, "and I'm happy with people using it. Still, some anti-corporate protesters grumbled that the purchase of the masks was counterproductive, since it only put royalty money in the pockets of the giant Time Warner corporation. 5 Things You Need to Know Before You See 'The Divergent Series: Allegiant' Posted: [SPOILERS: If you haven't read the books, or seen any of the movies, stop reading. Now. Still here? Okay, but you've been warned.] The "Divergent" series returns with "Allegiant," its third and second-to-last installment, starring Shailene Woodley as messianic "The One" protagonist Tris. Directed by Robert Schwentke, the film co-stars Theo James as Tris' love interest, Four, and it also covers half of the 526-page book. Since it has been a full year since "Insurgent," we've compiled a primer of five things to get you ready for the new film. 1. It Covers the First Half of the Last Book "Allegiant" may be the title of the last book in Veronica Roth's best-selling "Divergent" series, but the adaptation's filmmakers have named the next and final movie in the dystopian tale "Ascendant" instead of the typical "Allegiant: Part II." That clever decision may have confused movie-only fans into thinking the movies were based on a four-book franchise rather than a trilogy. But this is, like the penultimate "Hunger Games" before it, is just one half of the final book. The last film – to be directed by franchise newcomer Lee Toland Krieger -- is set for a June 2017 release. 2. There's a New Antagonist "Insurgent" ends with Factionless leader Evelyn (Naomi Watts) executing Erudite leader Jeanine (Kate Winslet), so naturally this next installment features a new villainous threat to Tris and Tobias' future. Enter Jeff Daniels as the smarmy David, the head of the mysterious Bureau of Genetic Welfare – the organization beyond the "wall" that sealed off the population stuck in the Chicago Faction system as a decades-long genetics experiment. The Big Brother-like Bureau watches the Chicago community, "Truman Show"-style, without intervening (so far). 3. Eugenics Outside, Civil War Inside Gone are the fear simulations (the most sci-fi aspect of the first two films) and the personality-based compounds. Now that they're on the outside of the world of factions, Team Tris is thrust into a new-to-them society full of such tech as: floating globes, hovercrafts, tall glossy towers, and bio-weapons – not to mention the Bureau's obsession with genetic "purity." Meanwhile, back inside the wall, Evelyn's Factionless crew fights with Johanna's united "Allegiant" (Octavia Spencer) for control. 4. The Love Story Is Tested We haven't yet seen the movie, but given the attractive actors playing Bureau employees Matthew (Bill Skarsgaard) and Nita (Nadia Hilker), their characters are to resemble their counterparts in the book, each teaming with Tris and Four respectively -- forcing the couple to wonder if they're on the still on the same page. Don't worry, though, there's no actual cheating in the book, so we don't expect any in the movie either (who would cheat on Theo James, even if it is with Alexander Skarsgaard's hot little brother?). 5. It "Diverges" From the Book Although we won't spoil exactly where in the book's plotline "Allegiant" breaks for "Ascendant," one thing everyone wonders is whether the screenwriters' creative liberties extend to certain controversial twists in Roth's source material. There is still going to be a body count that includes some beloved characters, but even author Roth has commented that the end may not exactly mirror the one she wrote. And according to some fans, the central prospect of those changes is a good thing (spoiler alert: that Tris won't have to sacrifice herself and die to save her friends).
