George R.R. Martin Assures Fans He's 'Not Dead Yet'

Posted:

67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Press RoomLegendary music producer George Martin, the man who worked with The Beatles and shepherded them to superstardom, died earlier this week at the age of 90. But fans of another George Martin -- George R.R. Martin, author of the books that inspired HBO series "Game of Thrones" -- were momentarily confused by the similarly-monikered men, prompting the latter Martin to clear the air online, and declare himself very much alive.

In a blog post titled "Not Dead Yet," George R.R. Martin did his best to assuage "GOT" fans' worries that he was the one who had died, writing, "It was Sir George Martin, of Beatles fame, who has passed away. Not me."

Of course, if concerned fans had done any kind of independent research on the topic, they could have easily figured that out for themselves, but alas, sometimes a simple Google search is too much to ask. But Martin was a good sport about the mix-up, citing another famous author's remarks on a similar misconception.

"While it is strangely moving to realize that so many people around the world care so deeply about my life and death, I have to go with Mark Twain and insist that the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated," Martin wrote.

It's long been a fear that Martin won't live long enough to finish his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, which still has two books to go. Martin's writing has been so famously delayed that "Game of Thrones" is now moving past the source material, and, with Martin's blessing, will soon divulge plot details from his novels that have yet to be published. He may not be dead yet, but we doubt fans will ever stop worrying about losing him before he wraps his series.

The author assured everyone, though, that he was still hard at work.

"I am still here, still writing, still editing, still going to movies and reading books, and I expect to hang around for quite a while yet, thank you very much," he wrote. "But thank you all for caring."

You're welcome, George. But maybe a little less reading and movie-watching, and more writing? Please and thank you.

The Lonely Island's 'Popstar' Trailer Is Hilarious, Celeb-Filled, and NSFW

Posted:

popstar, never stop never stopping, the lonely island, andy sambergThe Lonely Island guys -- Andy Samberg, Jorma Toccone, and Akiva Schaffer -- are finally hitting the big screen together in "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping," and the trio just dropped the film's first, hilarious red band trailer.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016) - Red Band Trailer No. 2

The flick, a send-up of music documentaries in the vein of Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never," is brimming with big names in comedy and music, and stars Samberg as the superstar singer/rapper Conner4Real. Celebs including Simon Cowell, Carrie Underwood, and Usher gush in talking head interviews about Conner's genius (his latest album is called "Thriller, Also," after all), while the entertainer spends lavishly to have an Adam Levine hologram join him onstage, and employs a whopping 32 people in his personal entourage.

That ever-expanding crew includes his DJ (Taccone), his lyricist (Schaffer), and more unique members like his Dogg Father (Snoop Dogg, naturally), his bagpiper (Will Forte), and his Unicorn Handler (Pink).

"You know, it takes a village to make me look dope," Connor explains. Clearly.

If the big names listed above weren't enough, the flick also stars Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows, and Maya Rudolph, and features cameos from DJ Khaled, Martin Sheen, Bill Hader, Joanna Newsom (Samberg's real-life wife), Will Arnett, and Seal (playing Connor's wolf handler, obviously), among many others. There's also a plot in there somewhere, but we're too busy giggling over all the ridiculous NSFW jokes and sight gags packed into this trailer.

"Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping" is due in theaters on June 3.

'Hey, Everyone!' Spider-Man Debuts in New 'Captain America: Civil War' Trailer

Posted:

Marvel's Captain America: Civil WarSpider-Man/Peter Parker (Tom Holland)Photo Credit: Film Frame© Marvel 2016Hey, everyone, meet Tom Holland as Spider-Man, aka "Underoos"! He showed up, as expected/hoped, in a nice little coda at the end of the new world trailer for "Captain America: Civil War."

That's probably going to be the big takeaway from the new trailer, which also shows Captain America () and Iron Man () beating the crap out of each other. And since Tony Stark is the one who pretty much summons Spider-Man's sticky powers at the end, to steal Cap's shield (!), does that mean he's officially Team Iron Man?

Watch the trailer: Marvel's Captain America: Civil War (2016) - Trailer No. 2
There was a lot of will they/won't they speculation about including Spider-Man in the trailer. Fans wanted to see him. But there were also good arguments for keeping him a big surprise for the big screen.

Collider made the point that some people, who just watch trailers, may not even have realized that Spider-Man was meant to be in the movie, and it could've been a pleasant surprise for them in the theater. Not everyone follows celeb news, they just go see a superhero movie when it shows up. And it's not like no one would show up if they didn't show us Peter Parker first. And there's always the possibility that fans would have a negative reaction to Spider-Man -- you know how the Internet loves to judge based on very little information -- and that disappointment could dampen the hype.

But anyway, they did show us Spidey (if not Peter Parker) and other cool stuff, like this dude:

So what do you think, so far? The movie opens May 6.

Daisy Ridley Defends Her (and Rey's) Body Type: 'I Am a Real Woman'

Posted:

Even is now being "body shamed." Sigh. The "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star isn't backing down, though, after what sounds like two rounds of attacks in the past week.

In a new Instagram note, Ridley references receiving "misogynistic comments" on her #IWD (International Women's Day) post, and then someone created a meme mocking Rey's slender body type. Ridley had posted a screengrab of the meme, but deleted it when the original poster started getting attacked.

But Entertainment Tonight saved the original image, and here it is (with the sender's address blocked):

That was a great defense there, about "real women" being all shapes and sizes, but she removed the post in light of the attacks, and replaced it with a beautiful, empowering note defending Rey, herself, and everyone who gets criticized like this. In part, she writes, "I will not apologise for how I look, what I say and how I live my life cause what's happening inside is much more important anyway and I am striving to be the best version of myself, even if I stumble along the way."

Here's the full post:

It's always heartening to see people of influence promoting kindness, and it's good that Ridley emphasized that she didn't want her supporters to jump at that "hater." Sometimes, celebs just unleash their fans on any critics, which isn't healthy either. But you also have to wonder if it's feeding the trolls to focus so much on negative responses -- some people just enjoy being contrary, and feed on the attention. Maybe it's better to start singling out the many more positive replies?

Read Charlie Hunnam's Awesome Letter to 'Immature Girls' Bullying His Girlfriend

Posted:

FX 2014 Summer TCACharlie Hunnam's longtime girlfriend, Morgana, is being cyberbullied by so-called fans of the actor. Sadly, this isn't anything new. Celebs have plenty of haters, but their own fans are often the worst offenders when it comes to bashing others online, including envy blasts of the stars's significant others.

But Hunnam has had enough. The "Sons of Anarchy" alum and almost-star of "Fifty Shades of Grey" asked a friend to post a message. Here it is (via SOA Fanatic):

"Dear ladies of social media,

This is a message from Charlie Hunnam. I have no social media so I have asked my good friend and long time supporter Tina Lou to post this message for me.

It has been brought to my attention that there is a group of immature girls posting a large number of hard messages aimed at my long time girlfriend. I would respectfully ask you to stop doing this. She is an intelligent, beautiful, kind person who just tried to live a simple life and has nothing to do with the entertainment industry. If you want to talk shit, talk shit about me, leave her out of it. What is most confusing is that these negative and totally unprovoked attacks appear to be coming from the people who call themselves my fans. Think about the logic of this for a moment. This is a girl I love very much and have spent the last eleven years of my life with and hope to spend the next sixty years. She has been my loyal and supportive partner long before I had any success or money. Why would you attack her out of admiration for me? It makes no sense. Perhaps you might think about spending the time you dedicate on attacking her on improving the quality of your own life, as it is well known that this type of random hatred usually comes from deep rooted personal unhappiness. This about this. Also, I guarantee if you knew her you would feel very silly, as my girlfriend is one of the kindest, nicest, most virtuous people I have ever met. There is literally nothing about her or her behavior that deserves this type of condemnation.

Thank you in advance for respecting this request.

Best Wishes, Charlie Hunnam"

Perfection. Some fans questioned (harshly) whether the message was really from Charlie, so he made his own video to prove that he did in fact write that and asked her to post it.

Hey guys. Last week I posted an extract from an email that was sent to us for the attention of " the ladies of social...

Good for him -- for posting something, and even trying to keep it positive and respectful, despite the anger he and Morgana have every right to feel. And he's right, it's ironic that the people who claim to be his fans are the ones doing the most damage to his life, by hurting someone he loves.

'Big Brother' Alum Medevaced in Most Disturbing 'Survivor' Episode Ever

Posted:

Everything went wrong last night on "Survivor: Kaoh Rong."

Even host Jeff Probst said he was "the most frightened I've been in all my time on 'Survivor,'" and this is Season 32. Three people collapsed. One was evacuated. And the episode ended with an infuriating round of bullying, hypocrisy, and the elimination of the most likable person on the Brawn tribe.

The drama started right away at the Reward Challenge. Everyone has talked about the particularly difficult conditions this season, and the heat took its toll when the players had to dig in the hot sun, with no hydration or protection. Debbie Wanner of the Brains tribe was the first to drop. Probst checked on her, and made sure she was fine. Then Cydney Gillon of the Brawn tribe and Caleb Reynolds of the Beauty tribe (and also "Big Brother 16") both dropped, and it was clear they were really in trouble.

Cydney recovered, with help from Kyle Jason, who showed he can be a good person, just apparently not to Alecia Holden, whom he repeatedly insulted and called "Blondie" instead of her actual name. The Brawn tribe later lost still another Immunity Challenge, and they wanted to pin all the blame on Alecia, dumping her right at the challenge itself. But Alecia was a fighter and refused, making them go to Tribal Council. She didn't whine or sob, or fall apart. She apparently annoyed her tribe, but no one deserves to be treated how she was treated. Yeah, she should've been placed on Beauty, not Brawn, but that's not her call. And her tribemates did not show any strength at all in how they treated her. That was weakness at its worst.

Poor Caleb, though. Anyone who watched "Beast Mode Cowboy" on BB16 probably thought he was a crazy stalker, at best, but he had a good showing on "Survivor." His bromance with Tai was just beginning to blossom... And he wanted to be there. He talked about wanting to do "Survivor" back on BB16. He was a real fan and gave his all, maybe too much. It was incredibly disturbing to see him rushed away by the medical team. That was more than the usual hurry, and it looked like he might be in serious danger. Thankfully, he's OK now, and this season was filmed almost a full year ago, so he's had more than enough time to recover.

Here's what Jeff Probst told Entertainment Weekly about that particular moment:

You've had a bunch of really scary scenarios over the years with contestants losing consciousness. How does the Caleb situation compare to other ones like Russell Swan?

This is at the top of the list. This was the most frightened I've been in all my time on Survivor. Three people down at once and one of them in very serious condition. There was no color in Caleb's face and very little response from him for quite a while. Even for the first few moments after they put the oxygen mask on, Caleb didn't respond. Then, out of nowhere, he took a breath and suddenly the color returned, his face filled out again and in a matter of seconds he was back. It was very powerful to witness. I don't imagine Caleb has any idea what he went through and watching the episode was probably very emotional for him and his family.

If they do a second season of "Survivor: Second Chances," Caleb should be cast to return. And maybe Alecia, too? That horrible group would've broken a lot of people, but she showed her Brawn colors by staying strong and fighting till the end.

19 Sacred '90s Movies That Hollywood Should Never Remake

Posted:

As we get farther and farther from the '90s, it's inevitable that we'll see more remakes -- or reboots -- of movies we loved from that decade.

We all saw how the "Point Break" remake went, and, well, yeah, we wouldn't wish that fate on any of our favorite films. So we're telling Hollywood to leave beloved '90s films such as "Titanic" and "Pretty Woman" alone.

We're happy to watch these films over and over and over as they are, so please, no remakes!
