George R.R. Martin Assures Fans He's 'Not Dead Yet' Posted: Legendary music producer George Martin, the man who worked with The Beatles and shepherded them to superstardom, died earlier this week at the age of 90. But fans of another George Martin -- George R.R. Martin, author of the books that inspired HBO series "Game of Thrones" -- were momentarily confused by the similarly-monikered men, prompting the latter Martin to clear the air online, and declare himself very much alive. In a blog post titled "Not Dead Yet," George R.R. Martin did his best to assuage "GOT" fans' worries that he was the one who had died, writing, "It was Sir George Martin, of Beatles fame, who has passed away. Not me." Of course, if concerned fans had done any kind of independent research on the topic, they could have easily figured that out for themselves, but alas, sometimes a simple Google search is too much to ask. But Martin was a good sport about the mix-up, citing another famous author's remarks on a similar misconception. "While it is strangely moving to realize that so many people around the world care so deeply about my life and death, I have to go with Mark Twain and insist that the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated," Martin wrote. It's long been a fear that Martin won't live long enough to finish his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, which still has two books to go. Martin's writing has been so famously delayed that "Game of Thrones" is now moving past the source material, and, with Martin's blessing, will soon divulge plot details from his novels that have yet to be published. He may not be dead yet, but we doubt fans will ever stop worrying about losing him before he wraps his series. The author assured everyone, though, that he was still hard at work. "I am still here, still writing, still editing, still going to movies and reading books, and I expect to hang around for quite a while yet, thank you very much," he wrote. "But thank you all for caring." You're welcome, George. But maybe a little less reading and movie-watching, and more writing? Please and thank you. [via: George R.R. The Lonely Island's 'Popstar' Trailer Is Hilarious, Celeb-Filled, and NSFW Posted: The Lonely Island guys -- Andy Samberg, Jorma Toccone, and Akiva Schaffer -- are finally hitting the big screen together in "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping," and the trio just dropped the film's first, hilarious red band trailer. That ever-expanding crew includes his DJ (Taccone), his lyricist (Schaffer), and more unique members like his Dogg Father (Snoop Dogg, naturally), his bagpiper (Will Forte), and his Unicorn Handler (Pink). "You know, it takes a village to make me look dope," Connor explains. Clearly. If the big names listed above weren't enough, the flick also stars Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows, and Maya Rudolph, and features cameos from DJ Khaled, Martin Sheen, Bill Hader, Joanna Newsom (Samberg's real-life wife), Will Arnett, and Seal (playing Connor's wolf handler, obviously), among many others. There's also a plot in there somewhere, but we're too busy giggling over all the ridiculous NSFW jokes and sight gags packed into this trailer. "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping" is due in theaters on June 3. Photo credit: Universal This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Hey, Everyone!' Spider-Man Debuts in New 'Captain America: Civil War' Trailer Posted: Hey, everyone, meet Tom Holland as Spider-Man, aka "Underoos"! He showed up, as expected/hoped, in a nice little coda at the end of the new world trailer for "Captain America: Civil War." That's probably going to be the big takeaway from the new trailer, which also shows Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) beating the crap out of each other. And since Tony Stark is the one who pretty much summons Spider-Man's sticky powers at the end, to steal Cap's shield (!), does that mean he's officially Team Iron Man? Watch the trailer: There was a lot of will they/won't they speculation about including Spider-Man in the trailer. Fans wanted to see him. But there were also good arguments for keeping him a big surprise for the big screen. Collider made the point that some people, who just watch trailers, may not even have realized that Spider-Man was meant to be in the movie, and it could've been a pleasant surprise for them in the theater. Not everyone follows celeb news, they just go see a superhero movie when it shows up. And it's not like no one would show up if they didn't show us Peter Parker first. And there's always the possibility that fans would have a negative reaction to Spider-Man -- you know how the Internet loves to judge based on very little information -- and that disappointment could dampen the hype. But anyway, they did show us Spidey (if not Peter Parker) and other cool stuff, like this dude:

Daisy Ridley Defends Her (and Rey's) Body Type: 'I Am a Real Woman' Posted: Even Daisy Ridley is now being "body shamed." Sigh. The "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" star isn't backing down, though, after what sounds like two rounds of attacks in the past week. That was a great defense there, about "real women" being all shapes and sizes, but she removed the post in light of the attacks, and replaced it with a beautiful, empowering note defending Rey, herself, and everyone who gets criticized like this. In part, she writes, "I will not apologise for how I look, what I say and how I live my life cause what's happening inside is much more important anyway and I am striving to be the best version of myself, even if I stumble along the way." It's always heartening to see people of influence promoting kindness, and it's good that Ridley emphasized that she didn't want her supporters to jump at that "hater." Sometimes, celebs just unleash their fans on any critics, which isn't healthy either. But you also have to wonder if it's feeding the trolls to focus so much on negative responses -- some people just enjoy being contrary, and feed on the attention. Maybe it's better to start singling out the many more positive replies? This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Read Charlie Hunnam's Awesome Letter to 'Immature Girls' Bullying His Girlfriend Posted: Charlie Hunnam's longtime girlfriend, Morgana, is being cyberbullied by so-called fans of the actor. Sadly, this isn't anything new. Celebs have plenty of haters, but their own fans are often the worst offenders when it comes to bashing others online, including envy blasts of the stars's significant others.
Perfection. Some fans questioned (harshly) whether the message was really from Charlie, so he made his own video to prove that he did in fact write that and asked her to post it.
Good for him -- for posting something, and even trying to keep it positive and respectful, despite the anger he and Morgana have every right to feel. And he's right, it's ironic that the people who claim to be his fans are the ones doing the most damage to his life, by hurting someone he loves. 'Big Brother' Alum Medevaced in Most Disturbing 'Survivor' Episode Ever Posted: Everything went wrong last night on "Survivor: Kaoh Rong."
If they do a second season of "Survivor: Second Chances," Caleb should be cast to return. And maybe Alecia, too? That horrible group would've broken a lot of people, but she showed her Brawn colors by staying strong and fighting till the end. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 19 Sacred '90s Movies That Hollywood Should Never Remake Posted: As we get farther and farther from the '90s, it's inevitable that we'll see more remakes -- or reboots -- of movies we loved from that decade. We all saw how the "Point Break" remake went, and, well, yeah, we wouldn't wish that fate on any of our favorite films. So we're telling Hollywood to leave beloved '90s films such as "Titanic" and "Pretty Woman" alone. We're happy to watch these films over and over and over as they are, so please, no remakes!
