Reel TV: 'Big Hero 6' Is Getting a Sequel as a TV Show

Posted: 02 Mar 2016 07:30 PM PST

Big Hero 6 is one of those animated movies that was a huge success, but doesn't necessarily feel like it because it didn't go on to dominate pop culture the same way as, say, Frozen. It not only earned over $650 million worldwide, but it won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, which was a surprise to everyone who thought How to Train Your Dragon 2 had it in the bag. Usually critical and commercial success like that for an animated movie means we're going to see a sequel in just a few years, and today brings news that Big Hero 6 will indeed be getting a follow-up, it's probably not in the form fans are expecting. Disney has instead decided to continue the story as a TV show. This is a somewhat common route these days, with Monsters vs Aliens, Kung-Fu Panda, The...

The issue of diversity has been a hot topic this week in movie news, inspiring vigorous discussions about the limited opportunities faced by women and people of color, among others. Not to make light of that very important issue, but Vin Diesel's xXx: The Return of Xander Cage appears to be setting a great example in its casting. The sequel has reached out around the world for talented people from a large variety of backgrounds. The cast is led by Vin Diesel, who has described himself as a person of color, and also includes Toni Collette, Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Tony Jaa, Ruby Rose, Nina Dobrev, Kris Wu and Samuel L. Jackson. That's a refreshing and diverse cast of characters for what sounds like an action-oriented thriller, drawing on a pool of actors from...

See How Chewbacca Actor Peter Mayhew Proved Han Really Did Shoot First

Posted: 02 Mar 2016 02:15 PM PST

It's one of the longest-running controversies in all of nerdom -- did Han Solo shoot first when confronted by Greedo in the cantina during the first Star Wars movie.  If you're not much of a Star Wars fan, the line above may not make a lick of sense. But any casual Star Wars watcher knows exactly what we're talking about, and while the original version of Star Wars pretty clearly shows Han shooting Greedo before Greedo could even think about firing his own blaster, George Lucas' edits to the film years later have been divisive because they seem to show Greedo shooting first. Thus the debate raged on. But now Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew wants to settle it once and for all by posting actual pages from the original script on Twitter that seem to clearly...
