The '21 Jump Street' and 'Men In Black' Crossover Hires 'The Muppets' Director

Posted: 04 Mar 2016 09:05 PM PST

Update 3/4/2016: According to Variety, James Bobin (The Muppets, Alice Through the Looking Glass) is in early talks to direct the 21 Jump Street, Men In Black crossover movie. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will be reprising their respective roles, but Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will not be. Instead Sony is planning to use this as a way to reboot Men In Black with a new cast.   Previously 4/30/2015: It's no secret that one of the bigger emerging trends in Hollywood right now are these shared movie universes, a la what Marvel Studios is doing (see: Avengers: Age of Ultron, in theaters this weekend) and what Warner Bros. will start doing with their own DC movies, beginning with next year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But what we aren't seeing from...

Sony Still Wants to Make 'Venom'; Hires 'Edge of Tomorrow' Screenwriter

Posted: 04 Mar 2016 08:53 PM PST

Are you ready for the Marvel cinematic universe to get a little bit more complicated? It just may, as Sony has expressed new interest in getting the ball rolling on a solo Venom movie-- something they've tried to do off and on for quite a while now. Here's the rub: the movie is expected to exist outside of the studio's new Spider-Man movie, which will exist within the Disney-run universe. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, who produced the two Spider-Man movies starring Andrew Garfield, are also producing Venom. They've now hired Dante Harper to write the new solo project. He's one of a number of writers on the fantastic sci-fi action movie Edge of Tomorrow, so his involvement is encouraging. Less encouraging is the news that it's being planned to be unrelated...

Comics on Film: Why They Fight - Captain America and Iron Man's Positions in the Looming 'Civil War'

Posted: 04 Mar 2016 07:30 PM PST

Not too long ago, I showed my soon-to-be mother-in-law the trailers for both this month's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and May's Captain America: Civil War. After both were finished, she had a frown on her face. "Why are all the superheroes fighting each other? I don't get it." If you're not a comic book fan or at least a little bit familiar with the source material for both upcoming movies, it's actually a pretty good question. While the conflict we'll see at the end of this month has its roots in a misunderstanding of what both combatants ultimately want, the stakes and origins of the fighting in Civil War come from a bit of a different place. Their grievances come from the same thing you and your uncle or grandma...

Zack Snyder Explains the 'Batman v Superman' R-rated Version Has More Than Just Extra Violence

Posted: 04 Mar 2016 06:00 PM PST

We heard last month that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will have an R-rated cut on its home release. Now, via Entertainment Weekly, some details have come out regarding what this "Ultimate Edition" version will entail. Here's what we know:   What makes the director's cut rated R? All that has been revealed about the R-rated content is through the MPAA's qualifying description: "for sequences of violence." Compare that to their comment for the PG-13 version, that it features "intense sequences of violence and action throughout, and some sensuality," and we can figure Zack Snyder's director's cut has some extended scenes of more extreme violence. According to producer Charles Roven, that doesn't mean bloodier or...

This Badass Video of Keanu Reeves Training Is the Only Trailer 'John Wick 2' Needs

Posted: 04 Mar 2016 04:15 PM PST

Keanu Reeves is Hollywood's most unsung action star. And that's not because the movies he makes are overlooked gems just waiting to be discovered. Everyone loves Keanu Reeves movies. What makes him such a silent treasure is that he doesn't tend to make a big deal out of everything. He's kind of like an anti-celebrity. He's a genuine movie star, but in interviews and TV appearances, he never tries to make it about himself. He readily gives credit to the stunt teams and trainers and choreographers that make every single thing he does possible in the first place. When we interviewed him for John Wick, he explained the reason the action works so well is that he basically trains in every discipline that the stunt department will be working on, so when it comes time...

Here's Your First Look At the New 'Power Rangers'

Posted: 04 Mar 2016 12:00 PM PST

A beloved relic of 1990s popular culture, the live-action television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers appealed to young fans, who happily watched as the teenaged characters morphed into superpowered heroes, piloted giant robots and protected the world from alien invaders. The series was an instant success and paved the way for 1995's big-screen adventure Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. The show has continued through the year under a variety of titles and now it's preparing for a return to the big screen, titled simply Power Rangers. The first look at the movie, via EW, features the five new team members, played by Becky Gomez (Yellow Ranger), RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), Ludi Lin (Black Ranger) and Dacre Montgomery (Red...
