Lee Reherman, Hawk on 'American Gladiators,' Dead at 49 Posted: LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Lee Reherman, a fan favorite as the towering, muscular Hawk on television's "American Gladiators," has died at age 49. Reherman, who went on to a successful career as an actor-producer after "Gladiators," died Tuesday at his home in Manhattan Beach, California. The cause of death wasn't immediately known. But Reherman's publicist, Anthony Turk, says the actor hadn't been feeling well after recently undergoing hip replacement surgery. After "American Gladiators" ended in 1996, Reherman went on to make numerous appearances in movies and TV shows. He was a regular on the series "The First Family," playing a White House security agent, and had recently filmed an episode of television's "Jane The Virgin." He also had a recurring role in the Disney show "K.C. Undercover." This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Amy Winehouse's Dad Says Oscar-Winning Doc Is Misleading Posted: By Matt Kemp, Associated Press LONDON (AP) -- A documentary about singer Amy Winehouse has won an Academy Award, but her father isn't celebrating. Mitch Winehouse said Tuesday that it's "fantastic" that people still love his daughter, who died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at age 27. But he says Asif Kapadia's film "Amy," which won the best-documentary Oscar on Sunday, "has no bearing on her life, apart from the fact she was born and unfortunately she passed away - everything in between is basically fabricated." Mitch Winehouse has been a vocal critic of the film since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. He told The Associated Press that he "went mad - I was throwing things at the screen" when he first saw Kapadia's documentary, which includes interviews with friends, family members and fellow musicians. The documentary suggests that people close to Amy - and the media - unwittingly contributed to her struggles with addiction and fame. The soul diva, whose 2006 album "Back to Black" won five Grammy Awards, battled drug and alcohol abuse for years before her death. Some viewers have criticized her father for appearing to deter her from going to rehab. He said that impression is inaccurate. "We did our best in our own way as a family to nurture Amy and to help her," he said. "You know, maybe there were times I could've been stronger, but when you love someone you love someone and that's the bottom line." Winehouse claims the documentary paints his daughter as having "a lonely, sad and very unhappy last three years." He says nothing could be further from the truth. "She had a wonderful boyfriend, they were planning to get married, they were planning to have children," he said. "She had wonderful friends. I'm not talking about the dregs of society that I used to go around and throw out in 2007-2008 - these were wonderful people that were with her." Winehouse says he plans his own film about his daughter - under the working title "Letter to Amy" - which will feature friends, family, fans and famous people sharing letters, poems, songs or messages to the late singer. --- Associated Press writers Zara Eldridge and Jill Lawless contributed to this report. Jennifer Lopez Also Hates Ben Affleck's Back Tattoo: 'It's Awful' Posted: Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Garner both have the dubious distinction of being Ben Affleck's exes. Now, Lopez has revealed that she and Garner also share a mutual dislike for their former flame's highly-publicized (and much-maligned) phoenix tattoo, and the singer-actress didn't mince any words when discussing the ink in a new interview. Lopez stopped by "Watch What Happens Live" this week and answered a series of silly questions posed by host Andy Cohen during the show's "Plead the Fifth" segment. But easily the best query centered around Affleck's giant back tattoo, of which Cohen asked Lopez her honest opinion. "It's awful!" the actress exclaimed when shown the now-infamous paparazzi shot of the garish ink, adding with a laugh, "What are you doing?!" "I mean, I would tell him that," Lopez continued. "I would tell him, 'What are you doing?' It has too many colors. His tattoos always have too many colors. They shouldn't be so colorful. You know what I mean? They should be cooler." Affleck's soon-to-be-ex-wife Garner also agrees with that assessment, though she was a bit more diplomatic in her choice of words on the subject. When asked about the phoenix imagery, Garner told Vanity Fair that she didn't think the supposed symbolism was apt. "You know what we would say in my hometown about that? 'Bless his heart,'" Garner told the magazine. "A phoenix rising from the ashes. Am I the ashes in this scenario? I take umbrage. I refuse to be the ashes." 'The Bachelor' Star Ben Higgins Confirms He's Engaged Posted: "The Bachelor" won't be living up to his title for much longer: Reality star Ben Higgins has confirmed that he's engaged. Higgins made the revelation during an appearance on "Good Morning America" on Tuesday, where he chatted about the dramatic events of Monday night's episode, in which he exchanged "I love you"s with the two remaining contestants, JoJo Fletcher and Lauren Bushnell. Now, Higgins has confirmed that things go even further with one of those women. "I am engaged – I can say that?" he said on "GMA." "I haven't said that in an interview yet!" Higgins added, "You don't know how much stress and weight that is, to carry [that secret] for so long. Good morning America, I am engaged! Yes, finally!" Though past bachelors have refrained from revealing their engagements before the final rose is handed out, Higgins said in an interview with People that he didn't think he was breaking any sacred "Bachelor" rules by spilling the beans -- though of course, he declined to hint at just who winds up being the lucky lady who gets a ring along with her rose. Higgins did reveal, however, that whoever it is supported his decision to confess his love to both JoJo and Lauren, and he's extremely happy with his bride-to-be. "I can't help but say I'm very much in love!" he told People. Audiences will find out just who Higgins chooses when "The Bachelor" ends its season on March 14. Ginnifer Goodwin Reveals a Version of Disney's 'Zootopia' You'll Never See Posted: When Disney's "Zootopia" hits theaters Friday, audiences can expect the film to pack more than just laughs at the hilarious expensive of a DMV run by sloths. In fact, "Zootopia" delivers just as resonate a message, if not more so, than Pixar's Oscar-winning "Inside Out." The movie is about much more than the initial (and funny) trailers make it seem, a fact that voice actor Ginnifer Goodwin reinforced during a recent press day for the Disney flick. Goodwin voices Judy Hopps, a bunny from the countryside with dreams of being a cop in the big city. Instead, she gets stuck with meter maid duty. Hopps soon meets sly fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), and the two team up on a case that reveals the truth beneath Zootopia's idyllic facade, as well as a very powerful message. Moviefone recently sat down with Goodwin to discuss how different this version of the film is from the one she read years ago, her reaction to the final product, and how she can't wait for "Zootopia 2." Moviefone: The trailers don't give away anything outside of the funny Judy and Nick moments. So when the big plot twist happens, it catches audiences off guard. Were you as surprised? Ginnifer Goodwin: When I came on board, the movie was fairly different. It had the same themes, but the story was told from a different angle, and Zootopia was a different kind of world. I think it's a testament to Disney [...] that [they] will start over from scratch to make something better. The script was completely re-written and became what the movie is now. I worked on it for two-and-a-half years, and the filmmakers started five years ago, so the movie's had various incarnations. Along the way, how did Judy's story change? Judy was a sidekick in the version that I first read, and Zootopia was a bleak world. Nick was still the same character, but you saw everything through Nick's eyes in the [original version] that I read. The audience was part of his hustle, and I was an outsider trying to get through to him. What was it like to see the final cut of the movie, with Judy going from sidekick to hero? I've seen it several times. I was at the first screening of the completed movie and I was surprised -- I was gutted in all wonderful ways. I knew that I loved it, I knew that I had more fun than I had ever had before. I knew that the themes resonated with me, but I didn't know that it was going to be able to sweep me up in it and hook me emotionally the way that it did. Disney's brought up some pretty resonant topics lately. Last year, "Inside Out" helped people better understand how their minds and emotions work. "Big Hero 6" dealt with loss. What do you hope audiences take away from "Zootopia"? What's brilliant about this one is that there are so many themes. The overlying theme is that battle between "you are what you are" and "'anyone can be anything," which is the first thing that I hope that my kids learn when they are finally old enough to see this. As far as what we can take from it in terms of social commentary, I think that it's a ballsy move from Disney. I'm proud to be a part of it. It seems timely, when it was actually written years and years ago. There is the realization that these issues are timeless and it needs to be addressed -- and should have been addressed a long time ago. I can't wait until my kids are old enough, so we can sit around the dinner table and have them ask the questions [the movie addresses]. It's almost more about the questions than it is about the answers at this point. We obviously want to figure out how to solve these problems. The first step is asking these questions. This movie's message is so important, and the story leaves room for more adventures with Judy and Nick. Are you psyched at the possibility to explore Zootopia more with these characters? I've been begging for a sequel. I want to do a sequel immediately. I know they have other things to work on, but I want a sequel now. "Zootopia" hits theaters Friday. Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey Confirmed to Star in Stephen King's 'Dark Tower' Posted: Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are ready to face off in Stephen King's epic "Dark Tower." The two actors will star in a film adaptation of King's eight-novel series (though it will exclude the first book, "The Gunslinger"). Elba will play Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger left in the Wild West-like land Mid-World. He's pursuing McConaughey's man in black, who is attempting to get to the tower that is a nexus point between time and space. If he succeeds, he would gain terrible power, so Elba's gunslinger must stop him. The author himself confirmed the casting on Twitter:
While King and director Nikolaj Arcel said the first book would be left out of the adaptation, it's unclear which of the others (plus short stories and comics) would be the focus of the movie. This adaptation has traveled a very long road — Ron Howard tried developing a trilogy of movies, plus a cable TV series in 2010. But now, King told Entertainment Weekly that all the pieces are in place. "Other people have tried fantasy spectacle. Sometimes it works, sometimes it works really well when it's based on a series of books, like 'The Hunger Games' or 'Harry Potter,' and sometimes it doesn't," King says. "What I have to go back to is this: We have Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, two great actors. You've got a great production team and Akiva Goldsman as the primary script writer. The team is in place, so we'll hope for the best." Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Chris Rock Didn't Really Sell $65,000 Worth of Girl Scout Cookies at the Oscars Posted: Thin Mints were all the rage at the Oscars on Sunday, but not quite at a $65,000 level. Host Chris Rock did a bit where he sold boxes of cookies for his daughters' Girl Scout troop to the millionaires sitting in the audience. Celebs like Kate Winslet, Mindy Kaling, and Olivia Munn all ponied up, and later, Rock announced that they'd sold $65,243 worth. But a Girl Scout rep told TMZ that they sold around 500 boxes of cookies at $5 per box, totaling around $2,500. The much bigger number was just a joke as part of Rock's bit. Not only that, his daughters aren't even members of the Inglewood, California troop that benefited from the Oscar sale. Rock's daughters are in a troop based in New York. Still, the Girl Scouts are thrilled with the exposure Rock gave them. "You can't buy that type of publicity for the Girl Scouts," troop mother Linda Spradley Dunn told Access Hollywood. "That was a wonderful thing that he did." Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
