'Fatal Attraction' Is the Latest Movie-to-TV Remake

Posted:

Fatal AttractionBecause all TV shows are being turned into movies, and all movies are being turned into TV shows, '80s classic film "Fatal Attraction" is being "reimagined" as a limited-event television series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has ordered a script for a remake of the 1987 thriller that starred Glenn Close and Michael Douglas. The project is "being eyed as a short-order event series - but with the potential to continue for a second season," THR reports.

In the original film, Close becomes obsessed with Douglas after they engage in a brief affair. She starts stalking him and his family, and the situation turns, well, fatal.

This is being described as a "reimagining," which could mean anything. Perhaps the Close character will be portrayed as more likable, less crazy? Maybe the Douglas character will suffer more consequences for his damaging behavior. Who knows? We just hope the - um, spoiler from 30 years ago? - the whole bunny boiling scene makes it into the remake.

Paul Thomas Anderson to Write, Maybe Direct Robert Downey Jr.'s 'Pinocchio'

Posted:

Premiere Of Marvel's Huh! This is a bit of a head-scratcher: Paul Thomas Anderson is writing and possibly directing the live-action remake of "Pinocchio" starring Robert Downey Jr.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anderson will pen a draft with eye toward directing the film. An auteur like Anderson overseeing a remake of the classic cartoon seems like an odd pairing, though THR says it "shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Downey was poised to star in Anderson's 'Inherent Vice' until his 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' obligations got in the way and Joaquin Phoenix stepped in to play the lead."

Downey has been working on this "Pinocchio" project for years, but it's gained steam now that live-action takes on classic children's tales have achieve such success (see: "Maleficent" and "Cinderella"). Now, the studios are engaged in an arms race to turn over their libraries. Disney is filming "Beauty and the Beast" with Emma Watson. Both Disney and Warner Bros. have competing "Jungle Book" movies in development. Universal is working on a live-action "Little Mermaid," which briefly had Sofia Coppola attached to direct.

Perhaps Anderson is moving away from writing and directing original movies; his latest film, "Inherent Vice," was an adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel. And the last time he insisted on working with a particular star, it was with Adam Sandler on the well-reviewed "Punch-Drunk Love." So, maybe he and Downey will make more magic together.

Now It's Time to Ruin Mother's Day With All-Star Ensemble Movie

Posted:

21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - ArrivalsAs if ruining Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve wasn't enough, director Garry Marshall has set his sights on taking down another holiday with a star-studded movie featuring insipid, loosely-connected stories.

Deadline reports Marshall is helming "Mother's Day," with Julia Roberts on board to star. Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, and Jason Sudeikis are in talks to join her. The film will tell "intertwining stories about the lives of several mothers as the title holiday approaches." Ugh. What did mothers ever do to you, Garry?

If you recall, Marshall has wreaked this havoc before with "Valentine's Day," which also starred Roberts (as well as Bradley Cooper and Taylor Swift), and "New Year's Eve" with Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, and Zac Efron. The former has an 18 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes; the latter has 7 percent.

Of "New Year's Eve," the great Roger Ebert wrote: It "is a dreary plod through the sands of time until finally the last grain has trickled through the hourglass of cinematic sludge. How is it possible to assemble more than two dozen stars in a movie and find nothing interesting for any of them to do?" (The man was a god. RIP.)

We shudder to think which holiday Marshall will go after next. It'd better not be Thanksgiving!

Donald Trump Keeps Getting Fired: Read His Latest Responses to Macy's, NBC

Posted:

Trump Univision LawsuitNo one can stop firing Donald Trump, but he's employing a trick "The Apprentice" cast should've tried: Insist you're the one doing the firing. On Monday, NBC announced it was cutting ties with the presidential candidate after his comments about Mexican immigrants. NBC is no longer airing the Miss USA pageant, which also lost its hosts. Trump did not back down. He posted his own dumping news, which you can read below. But first, check out this new breakup statement from Macy's, via Deadline:

Macy's is a company that stands for diversity and inclusion. We have no tolerance for discrimination in any form. We welcome all customers, and respect for the dignity of all people is a cornerstone of our culture. We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation. In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy's values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy's since 2004."

OK, well, The Donald wasted no time with his own statement, emphasizing that HE was the one to initiate the breakup:

My recent statement re: @macys -- We must have strong borders & stop illegal immigration now! #MakeAmericaGreatAgain

A photo posted by Donald J. Trump (@realdonaldtrump) on

His previous post, bashing NBC, called them weak and shaded "lying Brian Williams." Why not read that again, in case you missed it the first time:

Because he's having that kind of week, Trump also posted news on his lawsuit against Univision for refusing to broadcast Miss USA:

My just filed lawsuit against Univision. Always fight back when right. #MakeAmericaGreatAgain

Trump actually seems to be having a blast with these controversies, not only refusing to back down from anything he's said, but doubling down on all of it and promoting it as part of his anti-PC platform. To him, if you stand up for yourself and stand behind everything you've said -- even if it includes casually calling Mexican immigrants rapists -- you are showing strength.

'The Walking Dead' Season 6 Trailer, Premiere Date Expected Next Week

Posted:

The "Dead" will rise very soon! AMC's "The Walking Dead" and "Fear the Walking Dead" will have back-to-back panels at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 10. The main show is going first, staging its Season 6 panel at 12 p.m. PDT (3 p.m. for East Coasters) in Hall H. That is traditionally when they debut the big first trailer with enticing (but often misleading) footage from the first five or six episodes. That may also be when we get confirmation on the official premiere date. There's no saying they will definitely do that this year, but don't be surprised if the trailer includes the premiere date at the end, and don't be surprised if it's something like Sunday, October 11. It's definitely a Sunday in October.

Speaking of needing a specific release date, the same goes for "The Walking Dead" spinoff that's not really a spinoff/prequel that's not really a prequel. "Fear" is playing Skipper to TWD's Barbie, holding its own panel from 1-2 p.m. PT in Hall H on July 10. Since this show is brand new, we can only guess that they too will share the official August premiere date and also provide a real trailer instead of the very brief premiere teasers that've aired so far.

Dave Erickson is the showrunner of FTWD, which just shared some exclusive new photos with Entertainment Weekly. In that story, Erickson emphasized that the L.A.-based story is about a "dysfunctional blended family" and the zombie apocalypse just happens to launch while they're in the middle of their other crap.

Here's how he put it:

One of the things that Robert [Kirkman] and I discussed from the very beginning was, we're starting a little earlier in the apocalypse. And what that allowed us to do in the pilot and season 1 is establish our core family, establish the problems and the conflicts that they have, and really let that be the initial world that we live in. And we layer in the onset of the apocalypse, we layer in our first walkers, but it's really an effort to exacerbate the problems that already exist with Kim Dickens' character and Cliff Curtis' character and their sort of dysfunctional blended family. It's really filtering the apocalypse through that."

Long story short, clear your afternoon next Friday, July 10, and get ready to watch potentially two major new "Dead" trailers. We're especially looking forward to dissecting the Season 6 trailer, which should showcase Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Morgan Jones's (Lennie James) latest meeting, more conflict in Alexandria, and a showdown with The Wolves.

Britain Goes BOOM in 'London Has Fallen' Teaser Trailer

Posted:

Another major city has fallen -- and it can't get up! Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, and Morgan Freeman survived 2013's Washington, D.C.-set "Olympus Has Fallen" and they're back to watch London bridge go falling down (falling down, falling down) and everything else get blown to bloody bits in the sequel, "London Has Fallen."

Lions Gate just shared the first teaser trailer, along with this synopsis:

The sequel to the worldwide smash hit Olympus Has Fallen begins in London, where the British Prime Minister has passed away under mysterious circumstances. His funeral is a must-attend event for leaders of the western world. But what starts out as the most protected event on earth, turns into a deadly plot to kill the world's most powerful leaders, devastate every known landmark in the British capital, and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. Only three people have any hope of stopping it: the President of the United States, his formidable secret service head (Gerard Butler), and an English MI-6 agent who rightly trusts no one."

Here goes:

So Eckhart is back as the POTUS, with Freeman as the vice president. Angela Bassett and Melissa Leo have also returned, with British actress Charlotte Riley in a new role. The bombs drop January 22, 2016. Will you be there to see them?

Michael Fassbender Is Gunning for Oscar in New 'Steve Jobs' Trailer

Posted:

After watching the new trailer for "Steve Jobs," Sony's gonna be kicking themselves for letting this movie go to Universal.

The hotly-anticipated biopic, from director Danny Boyle and writer Aaron Sorkin, features Michael Fassbender in the titular role of the late Apple CEO. Here, he absolutely crushes the Sorkin-ese, going all-in for a Best Actor nod come awards season.

Sure, the film -- which also stars Kate Winslet and Seth Rogen -- has "Oscar Bait" written all over it. But attention must be paid to the scary-good quality filmmaking going on here.

"Steve Jobs" hits theaters October 9.

Oliver Stone's 'Snowden' Teaser Leaks No Footage of A-List Cast

Posted:

For a movie about a guy (in)famous for leaking classified information, "Snowden" is playing its own cards close to the vest. For now. Oliver Stone, who lives for this kind of story, directed the political bio thriller with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as former CIA employee Edward Snowden. The movie comes out on Christmas, which means it's a capital "B" Big Deal. Also a big deal: the rest of the A-list cast, which includes Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson and even -- a bit randomly -- Nicolas Cage.

The first teaser trailer doesn't focus on the cast. It doesn't show them at all. It only lists their names at the end, after a series of facts are shown about the real Edward Snowden (who is also not shown at all). Here's what we see, amid close-up shots of an American flag, as pensive piano music plays:

- Army recruit at 20
- Joined CIA at 22
- NSA contractor at 26
- By age 29 the most wanted man in the world

Then we see the upside-down flag, which is meant to be a sign of distress, and also used in the "House of Cards" logo. Check it out:

The December 25 release date suggests Oscar ambitions, but it's hard to know what to think without any footage. That's why they call it a teaser!

Watch the trailer.

'Big Brother 17' Spoilers: Jace Will Be Evicted First, But Audrey Is Next Target

Posted:

Warning: Spoilers ahead from the "Big Brother" live feeds.

"Big Brother 17" has only been airing for a week but a month's worth of drama has been happening on the live feeds. This house is already an asylum and it's not even clear who's running things anymore. Tonight (July 1) we'll see the results of the Power of Veto competition, which was actually held on Friday, and tomorrow (Thursday) BB17 will give us the first live eviction of the summer. The BB Takeover twist can alter whatever it wants at any time, and plans change within minutes in the "Big Brother" house, but as of now two things seem clear: 1) Jace Agolli will be evicted and 2) the majority of the house wants Audrey Middleton out ASAP.

On Sunday's show ,we saw that James Huling remains the Head of Household in Week 1, with "The Amazing Race" alum Jackie Ibarra and Ian Terry clone Steve Moses on the block. However, Steve won himself the Power of Veto and he used the POV to save himself. HOH James did what the house wanted at the time and put Jace on the block as the backdoor target. Jace knows at this point that he is leaving, although he's now scrambling to get the votes to evict Jackie instead of himself, so he can work with his allies -- especially Austin Matelson and Liz Nolan (who has a twin named Julia, just FYI).

But in the first week, Audrey has played HARD -- too hard. It was noticed that she has an alliance with just about everyone and she basically circles the house from conversation to conversation playing telephone, stirring up drama, then complaining that the house is just playing telephone and there's so much drama. It caught up to her. So, as of now, the target for Week 2 has moved from Austin or Liz to Audrey. Will it last? We'll see. It could be that Audrey (BB's first ever transgender houseguest) wins the Week 2 HOH on Thursday or she wins back the house's trust.

Audrey had Da'Vonne Rogers and Shelli Poole as her Day 1 allies, and she got close with Clay Honeycutt, but the house has lost trust in her. However, since Jace, Austin, Liz and (sort of) Vanessa Rousso are on the outside of what seems like the main alliance, Audrey may be able to work with them and find some leverage. A lot will be decided by who wins both HOHs, who is nominated, and who wins the all-important POV in Week 2.

For now, expect to see Steve win POV tonight and Jace become the first houseguest to leave BB17 tomorrow. However, the motto of this show is Expect the Unexpected, so there may be a last minute change on Thursday to send Jackie from pawn to packing. It's happened before.

Neve Campbell Joins 'House of Cards' Season 4 in Major Mystery Role

Posted:

LA Premiere of That Neve Campbell has good taste. The "Party of Five" alum hasn't been a TV series regular in many moons -- just showing up in one or two episodes of shows from "Mad Men" to "Grey's Anatomy" -- but she signed up for a big role on Season 4 of Netflix's outstanding "House of Cards."

Deadline revealed Campbell as the newest series regular, saying her role was being kept a secret. However, there was just scoop about a young couple joining Season 4 as a mirror image of President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and First Lady Claire (Robin Wright). Is Neve Campbell, perhaps, the female half of that younger power couple? Maybe. Maybe not.

"House of Cards" Season 4 will premiere in 2016 -- probably February, as usual -- and will at least partly focus on how Claire ... but wait. No spoilers, in case you aren't caught up yet. This show is definitely binge-worthy, so get yourself up-to-date on Netflix and prepare for the welcome addition of Neve Campbell. Is it wrong to hope she plays someone a bit shady, to give Frank a taste of his own medicine?

Everyone Loves 'Minions' Because of Drugs: Let Jon Hamm and Jon Stewart Explain

Posted:

Jon Hamm was on "The Daily Show" last night to promote "Minions"-- you can see a clip from the movie in his interview video below -- and the "Mad Men" alum joked that he was going to get in so much trouble with Universal after his conversation with Jon Stewart.

The "Despicable Me" spinoff opens July 10, and Jon Stewart started by saying he hoped the movie was about a quorum of Jewish men and maybe they just misspelled "Minyan." But he said kids really love Minions, including his own kids, joking that they are 18 and 19 and smoke a lot of dope. More seriously, Stewart said not everything can capture his kids' attention like this, and the Jons discussed the universal appeal of the characters for both children and adults.

Jon Hamm: "I think these guys, the Minions, are scientifically designed to be appealing to children. And not only children, but adults. I think the reason they're appealing to adults is they look like capsules, they look like pills. So people are like 'I'm used to that, I'm into it.'"

Jon Stewart: "So you think people are at home going, 'You know what movie I want to see? That Xanax movie.'"

Jon Hamm: "What is it called? Xanax, Xanax, Xanax, Oxycontin? I forget what it's called."

Jon Stewart said he was onto something. He figured they designed and tested the heck out of the Minions to see what the perfect size and shape would be.

Jon Stewart: "In many ways, they did design them like children's crack. Like it is, it's something that just feels..."

That's when Hamm dropped his line about getting in so much trouble with Universal for these jokes.

Jon Stewart: "You know what they're doing right now at Universal, you talking like that?" He leaned forward with his fingers together, villain style. "Yessss."

Jon Hamm: "'Talk to me more about this children's crack.' 'Actually, we'd like to work on that other Minyans movie about the Jews.' 'No, no, no, no, no, let's go with that children's crack story!'"

Haha. They're obviously just joking ... unless everyone comes out of theaters addicted to little round yellow squishy things. Watch more from the Jons here. They really should go on road trips together.

First 'Creed' Trailer Shows Rocky Still Packs a Punch

Posted:

"Creed" is already a hit online, but will it be a knockout in theaters this November? The movie's tagline is "Your legacy is more than a name," but the names Sylvester Stallone, Rocky Balboa, Apollo Creed, and Michael B. Jordan are selling this latest entry into the "Rocky" franchise.

The first official "Creed" trailer dropped last night and it already has more than 1,025,000 YouTube views. Jordan stars as the son of Apollo Creed, who heads to Philadelphia to track down his late father's legendary rival-turned-friend, Rocky Balboa, to ask him to be his own trainer.

Here's the 2 minute, 43 second trailer. It doesn't even reveal Stallone until the halfway point, emphasizing that this isn't his story.

"Creed" is directed by Ryan Coogler, who knocked it out of the park (more sports metaphors!) with Michael B. Jordan in "Fruitvale Station." "Creed" co-stars Phylicia Rashad, Tessa Thompson, Tony Bellew, Wood Harris ("The Wire" reunion!) and Graham McTavish. It's set for release on November 25. And now, for good measure, please repeat "Eye of the Tiger" in your head for the rest of the day. You're welcome.

Watch the trailer.

Best of Late Night TV: Danielle Brooks's NSFW Taystee Rap, Halle Berry Cancels, 'Couple or Friends?'

Posted:

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

Halle Berry was supposed to be on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Tuesday night to promote tonight's premiere of "Extant" Season 2. But she canceled, apparently not feeling well, which Jimmy said was a particular blow to Guillermo, who was looking forward to seeing her. So they did a little sketch where Jimmy broke the news to his sidekick, and a lot of slapping ensued. Kathy Griffin filled in for Halle Berry, who "hurt her back" (Kathy's air quotes). Jimmy said he called Kathy Tuesday afternoon as a last-minute fill-in. Kathy took the opportunity to shade Halle a teensy bit and promote her 80-city tour. Rob Corddry, who is on the new show "Ballers," talked to Jimmy about his celebrity crush as a kid, Kelly on "Dance Party USA," who turned out to be Kelly Ripa. Once again, Jimmy referenced the Supreme Court's same-sex ruling and said, ever since Friday, when he's seen two people on the street, he's been tempted to congratulate them, but he's not sure if they are really a couple or just friends. So he sent his cousin Sal into the street to play "Couple or Friends?" Jimmy also mocked Apple's new product, which just asks for -- nay, demands -- your money. For nothing. Or something. Just pay. The amazing Danielle Brooks, aka Taystee on "Orange Is the New Black," talked to Conan O'Brien about how the Netflix show has the "coolest, most bold fans." She has had people run up to her at stoplights and kiss her on the cheek. Conan said he does that to all women. Danielle told the story of being at the ATX festival in Texas and she was walking with some friends; two white women came up and crossed paths with them. One of the women whispered, "Yo, I think that's Taystee." And the other girl said, "Don't be racist." Danielle said she went back and said, "It is me, you're not racist! I know all black people don't look alike, but it's me." Haha. She took a picture with them and said they were really nice. Danielle also mentioned how creepy it is when older men hit on her. Her acceptable age range is up to about 39-40. (She's 25.) To Conan: "You got a cousin?" And here's her awesome (NSFW) Taystee rap, which had to be bleeped out. Conan was abashed. "There'll be no children's parties for you." "Silicon Valley" star Kumail Nanjiani was also on "Conan" and discussed growing up in Pakistan. He tweeted an adorkable throwback photo -- he thought it was cute, but it did not receive one compliment. He even memorized some of the insults, which were largely about the size of his head. A lot of people thought he just Photoshopped his current face onto a train conductor's body. Poor guy.

Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers and James Corden are all on repeats this week. Tears!
