Recap of 'Pretty Little Liars' Season 6 Episode 7: Happy Birthday, A! Posted: The countdown to finding out A's identity is just weeks away, although let's be real -- will "Pretty Little Liars" really tell us who Rosewood's resident stalker is, or will this be Ezra Fitz / Toby Cavanaugh / Mona Vanderwaal / every other character ever all over again? Only time will tell. Either way, "PLL" is ramping up its secret spillage, so get caught up with the latest in our recap. Spoiler alert: the liars remain confused about literally everything. Ali Drugs Her Dad (#Casual), Charles DiLaurentis Gets Really Enthused About His Birthday Remember last week when Charles DiLaurentis wrote his dad that creepy note and was like "LOL, I'm alive!" Well, poor Mr. DiLaurentis is deeply traumatized, and decides he should probably flee Rosewood to protect his himself. Uhm, yes, that is a great idea. The first great idea that's ever been on this show. But of course Alison ruins everything, drugs her dad with sleeping pills, and then sends her long-lost brother into a rage by setting the police on him. But more on that later. Let's talk about the liars' creepy new groupie, Sara. This week, her equally shady friend, Claire, comes to town and Emily flies into a fit of jealousy. Sara ends up moving out of Em's house to live with Claire (#betyrAyal) and now Emily is all kinds of depressed. But also she and Claire are kind of dating? It's complicated. In other news, Hanna wins a scholarship to pay for college, but womp: said scholarship is paid for by the company that shut down Radley Sanitarium. In fact, said company might be owned by Charles DiLaurentis. Meh, whatever, Sallie Mae is no joke. Take the money and run, Hanna. Toby Cavanaugh Binge Eats Pot-Laced Candy...That Is All So, what are the liars' plans this week? To capture A / Charles, of course! Here's what happens: after these perpetually confused ladies find out that Jason DiLaurentis is trying to reunite with his brother, Spencer comes up with a brilliant plan...to a) remove their microchips, and b) tell Toby all about Charles so he can follow Jason. Of course, this plan is an epic failure. Not only is Toby a major buzz kill about everything, he accidentally eats a bunch of Spencer's pot-laced candy (side note: AHAHAHAHA) and ends up getting completely wasted. Like, to the point where he shows up at Jason and Charles' meeting spot and is seeing double. Meanwhile, the liars follow Toby because they realize he's totally useless, and end up getting attacked by A in a dark alley. And speaking of Alis (see what we did there?), Alison decides to call the police and tell them about her murderous brother, causing an entire squad to show up and spook A. So yeah, as we said, epic fails all around. Alert: A Might Not Be Charles So, what have we learned this week? One: hugs not drugs. Two: never ask Toby to do anything. But also of note, Mona and Mike are back together, Aria is in the final rounds of a photography competition, and Charles has really hurt feelings that Jason betrayed him (as demonstrated by the fact that he sneaks into the DiLaurentis house and leaves a pouty note along with a home video). But wait -- one more thing: it should be noted that in the final scene of this week's episode, a pair of gloved hands (presumably belonging to A) opens a present -- and it's a portrait of Charles as a child. So wait...are Charles and A the same person, or is Charles trolling A? Epic confusion, here we come. Burning Questions 1. Are A and Charles working together, or is A Charles? We can't keep up. 2. Will Toby ever recover now that he's accidentally turned into a pot addict overnight? 3. Mona and Mike seem in love and relatively normal, but can we really trust them? 4. Sara presumably wasn't just written off "Pretty Little Liars," but what's her purpose on the show? Unless she's evil, she seems to be floundering (which makes us think she might be evil). An Emoji Movie Is in the Works at Sony. Yes, Really. Posted: Just when you thought Hollywood had run out of ideas comes news that Sony just won a intense bidding war for the right to make a movie about emoji. Seriously. Yes, those cute -- and sometimes crude -- little symbols you use in texts and on Twitter are set to hit the big screen in their own movie, written by Eric Siegel (TBS comedy "Men at Work") and Anthony Leondis ("Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters"), with Leondis directing. Deadline reports that Sony snatched up the pair's pitch (which already included storyboards) for a rumored seven-figure payout. That's a lot of dollar sign emojis. According to Deadline, the bidding on the project was so intense because "Unlike, say Lego, there are also no underlying rights here to purchase, which makes this as much a catnip idea to Hollywood as public domain fairy tales that fuel so many blockbusters." And the trade reports that a competing emoji project (that's a sentence we never though we'd type) is already in the works, making it crucial for Sony to act quickly and get its flick out first. We have no idea how a film that's based solely on smartphone texting technology could possibly have any sort of narrative, but then again, "Angry Birds" is due out next summer, so we suppose anything is possible. Here's hoping "Emoji: The Movie" winds up more like "The LEGO Movie" and less like "Battleship." 5 Best (and 5 Worst) Syfy Movies Ever Posted: The debut of Syfy's "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!" on July 22 is cause for celebration, just for the title alone. But the fact that the "Sharknado" movies have become annual events shouldn't make us forget that SyFy cranks out similar monster-movie fare at the rate of about 24 films per year. That's an awful lot of sharks, mad scientists, unholy creature hybrids, endangered bikini girls, sharks, '80s pop-stars and other pop-culture-relic actors, sharks, and prehistoric predators awakened from their slumbers and looking for breakfast. Did we mention sharks? You have to admire the creativity the filmmakers draw upon to come up with new monsters, new monster-on-monster battles, and new ways to kill characters and wreak mayhem, all despite tiny budgets that don't allow for lavish production values, quality costumes and special effects, or awards-caliber acting. With all that cheesy deliciousness oozing forth from the channel every other Saturday night for the last 14 years or so, it's hard to tell the good movies from the so-bad-they're-good. Here's a list that should help. When we get that zombie western starring members of the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync, we may have to revise it, but whichever end of the list it winds up on, it'll have big footprints to fill. Or rather, Bigfoot prints. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose Join 'The X-Files' Revival Posted: Fox's upcoming revival of classic sci-fi series "The X-Files" continues to expand its cast, with actors Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose set to join the limited series. TVLine reports that Amell and Ambrose will play two FBI agents, and are set to appear in one of the six new episodes. Amell will play Agent Miller, described by TVLine as "smart and smooth," while Ambrose is playing Agent Einstein, who's "sharp and confident." Though no further details about the characters were available, it seems like a safe bet that those younger agents will no doubt butt heads with seasoned veterans Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson). It could even be argued that they're meant to serve as a direct doppelgangers to the two returning leads, since Ambrose's amber locks are a dead ringer for Scully's signature coloring from the first iteration of the series. Of course, that's purely speculation, and we won't know anything for sure until their episode airs. Original stars Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis are also joining Duchovny and Anderson for the revival, which is being written by "X-Files" creator Chris Carter. The new, six-episode series is set for an expanded, two-night premiere early next year on Fox, beginning on Sunday, January 24 and continuing into its regular timeslot on Monday, January 25. Jake Gyllenhaal Talks Boxing & Injuries for 'Southpaw' Posted: Jake Gyllenhaal got pretty ripped for his starring role in "Southpaw," but the real question is, was it through boxing? A 'Sword in the Stone' Live-Action Remake Is Coming, 'Game of Thrones' Writer Attached Posted: In an unlikely mashup, Disney flick "The Sword in the Stone" is getting a facelift courtesy of "Game of Thrones": Bryan Cogman, a writer and producer for the hit HBO show, is set to pen the screenplay for a live-action remake of the animated classic. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cogman will work with Disney and producer Brigham Taylor (who's also producing the live-action "Jungle Book" remake) on the project, which is in the early development stages. Cogman himself also commented on the news on Twitter, sharing his elation and revealing that he's already very familiar with the source material. "I have cherished both the novel and 1963 film since childhood," Cogman wrote, referencing the movie and the T.H. White book of the same name on which it's based. "Hugely excited and honored to be working on this." The writer also shared a snap of himself attempting to pull a replica of the titular object out of an anvil in Disneyland, just like the flick's hero. He captioned the photo, "Research." According to THR, like the original flick, Cogman's screenplay will be loosely based on White's novel (part of the "Once and Future King" series), which focuses on 12-year-old orphan Arthur, who becomes king after pulling the sword from the stone, thanks to some help from his mentor, Merlin. While Cogman's "GOT" experience makes him uniquely suited to tackle this fantasy flick, audiences worried about that show's sexual and violent nature influencing "Sword" can rest assured that this will be decidedly lighter fare. "Sword" is just the latest in a seemingly never-ending string of planned reboots/remakes of beloved Disney animated classics. Most recently, the Mouse House announced an "Aladdin" prequel, focusing on the Genie character; retellings of "Beauty and the Beast," "Dumbo," "Mulan," "Winnie the Pooh," and "Peter Pan"'s Tinker Bell are all in the works, too. No word yet on when Cogman's project may get off the ground. Stay [via: Bryan Cogman, The Hollywood Reporter] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

The New 'Good Dinosaur' Trailer Is the Most Joy-Filled Thing You'll Watch Today Posted: We're all familiar with the stories of a boy and his dog and their fun adventures. But what if, millions and millions of years ago, a huge asteroid had missed Earth - and dinosaurs had never become extinct? Well, those adventures might've been had by a boy and his dinosaur, just like in the new trailer for Pixar's "Good Dinosaur." The first teaser trailer introduced us to Arlo, the youngest of his Apatosaurus family, but we only got a brief glimpse at his new friend, Jack, a 7-year-old human caveman. The new trailer shows us a lot more of Jack, who befriends Arlo by helping him retrieve a particularly high leafy treat. The two then embark on an adventure together, filled with beautiful vistas, difficult terrain, and dangerous foes, like a poisonous snake. "The Good Dinosaur" has been in the works at Pixar for years, and appeared to be in some trouble. The studio turned it around, though, and the result looks like a sweet, minimalistic affair - maybe more in the vein of "A Bug's Life" and the beginning of "WALL-E" than their more recent films. "The Good Dinosaur" opens Nov. 25. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Benicio Del Toro Might Be the Villain in 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Posted: In the "Star Wars" universe, there are good guys and there are bad guys -- and Benicio del Toro might be one of the latter. Variety reports that the Oscar winner is in talks to join "Star Wars: Episode VIII" as the movie's main villain. He would join "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac, who are all expected to reprise their roles in the final film of the new trilogy. Adding a new big bad indicates that one or more of the villains from "Episode VII" don't make it - Adam Driver's Kylo Ren, Gwendolyn Christie's Captain Phasma, or Domhnall Gleeson's General Hux. Director Rian Johnson seems to be going after a big name, as Variety also notes that he met with Joaquin Phoenix for the part. Del Toro is better known for his work in dark, gritty, independent dramas, but he also signaled an interest in major franchises with a brief appearance as the kooky Collector in Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy." If the actor signs on, he'd film "Episode VIII" with the rest of the cast next year to be ready for a May 26, 2017 date. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens Dec. 18. Want more stuff like this? How 'Southpaw' Stars Jake Gyllenhaal & Rachel McAdams Channel Their Anger Posted: In "Southpaw," Jake Gyllenhaal's character Billy Hope has a little trouble channelling his anger, so when we sat down with the cast of the movie, we asked them what outlet they have IRL for the things that make them mad. Some use the gym, while others forget about it all together. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Jesse Eisenberg Is a Stoned Sleeper Agent in 'American Ultra' Trailer Posted: Dude, are you tripping ... or has a secret code suddenly unlocked the sleeper agent inside you?! That's what happens to Jesse Eisenberg in the new trailer for "American Ultra." He's basically a stoner Jason Bourne, a slacker who works as at a convenience store until a code phrase activates Then, he kills two operatives with a spoon - a spoon! - and he and his girlfriend (Kristen Stewart) find themselves on the run from shadowy government types. If weed can make you paranoid, it's nothing to realizing you can kill someone by ricocheting a gun shot from a a cast iron pan. The trailer looks like a lot of fun, and "Adventureland" co-stars Eisenberg and Stewart exhibit the same loose, easy chemistry they did in that movie. Plus, there are appearances by John Leguizamo, Topher Grace, Tony Hale, and Connie Britton. Count us in for a few tokes. "American Ultra" opens Aug. 21. Want more stuff like this? Robin Williams's 9 Most Unforgettable 'Dead Poets Society' Moments Posted: If we had to pick just one endlessly quotable Robin Williams movie, it would have to be "Dead Poets Society." The 1989 classic -- centered on a group of all-male, buttoned-up prep school students and their radical new English teacher (Williams) -- is filled to the brim with life-affirming gems and inspirational quotes, and features Williams at his irreverent best. So, in celebration of a man who did, indeed, seize the day and make his life extraordinary, let's take a look back at some of the late Oscar-winning actor's most stirring and enlightening "Dead Poets Society" moments. 11 Times Sam & Dean on 'Supernatural' Were the One True Bromance Posted: Sam and Dean Winchester have been serving up all the brotherly love (and sometimes the brotherly angst) since "Supernatural" premiered way back in 2005. Since the beginning, the show has been all about the relationship between the two brothers, so it's no surprise that they have the ultimate bromance of any bromance ever. These are the 11 times where the Winchester brother's relationship was simply the best. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. Adam Sandler and Judd Apatow used to be roommates. Did you know? They were both on "The Tonight Show" Monday night, promoting different projects: Adam was there for his new movie "Pixels" and Judd for "Trainwreck" but also his new book, "Sick in the Head: Conversations About Life and Comedy." In the book, Judd said he only started making movies so he'd have a better shot of getting on "The Tonight Show." Congrats, man! At the end of the video, Adam took a moment to praise his ex-roommate as "the sweetest, nicest guy, most honest guy I know." He's happy for all of his success. Adam and Jimmy played the classic game "Lip Flip" and they both ended up doing Adam Sandler impressions -- with the real Adam making a racy joke about Jimmy's busted finger. Jimmy went first, and after his great Adam impression, Sandler retaliated by mouthing for Fallon, "I injured my hand whacking off! It was so much fun! Well, that's what I get for trying it with my left hand. Learned my lesson, back to old rightie!" Oh my! At the end, they sang a duet of "To All The Girls I've Loved Before." Charlize Theron was on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," talking about shaving her head for "Mad Max" and sharing the story of what happened the last time she was there and President Obama was on the show. She has this thing where, when she gets nervous, she says something inappropriate. So, randomly, when they were backstage and there was a pause in the conversation, she told the president if he was looking for a different demographic she could take him to a strip club. (!) She couldn't sleep for a long time after that, just reliving that moment and wondering why in the world she said that. "Jimmy Kimmel Live" had a fun game called "Say It or Spray It" combining crazy Donald Trump quotes with a water hose. James Corden recently did a fake-or-real Trump quotes game too, but they never get old. Christina Hendricks, Laverne Cox, and Cody Simpson were on "The Late Late Show with James Corden." James asked Laverne about Caitlyn Jenner's ESPYS speech -- which referenced the "Orange Is the New Black" star as a "trailblazer." Laverne shared how different her own transition was, as a working class black transgender woman in her 20s, out of the public eye. Laverne shared a little spoiler tease on Cait's upcoming E! show, which will show how much she goes through in trying to dodge the paparazzi. Christina Hendricks weighs in at the end of the video with a great "live and let live" attitude, not really understanding all the fuss, since of course we should all be comfortable and happy in our own skin. Vanessa Bayer was on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and she and Seth agreed that it's upsetting how good LeBron James is in "Trainwreck," since he's already great at too much. Vanessa and LeBron did some Ohio bonding and her dad got to meet him, so now she feels like they're part of the same family. Seth also shared the story of trying to give another driver the finger this weekend but he has a weak middle finger. He also flashed his finger at the audience and told them it would be blurred because TV still censors the finger. "Everything our society is going through right now, television thinks that you can't handle this." True. Good point. "Like, I get you have to blur genitals. ... There has to be a line, and I think it's right before genitals." Haha. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
