Experts Weigh In On 'Self/less' and the Science of Immortality Posted: 08 Jul 2015 09:30 PM PDT On the surface, Self/less looks like just another implausible movie involving the transference of one person's mind into another person's body. But it's not quite the sort of fantastical body-swap movie Ryan Reynolds previously took on with The Change-Up, nor is it totally far-fetched sci-fi a la Face/Off. There are enough down-to-earth ideas here for Focus Features to be inviting real-life neurological experts to screenings and giving them a voice afterwards to comment on the science on display. I attended one such screening in Atlanta, and after watching the movie, about a wealthy businessman with a terminal disease (Ben Kingsley) who pays to "shed" his skin and have his mind implanted into a new, younger body (Reynolds) for the sake of immortality... 'Spider-Man' Reportedly Wants Marisa Tomei For Aunt May Posted: 08 Jul 2015 08:15 PM PDT The next Spider-Man movie is going to give us our youngest big screen Peter Parker yet in the form of actor Tom Holland (who just turned 19), but he's not the only character who is going to be younger this time around. Variety is reporting that Marvel and Sony have already offered the role of Aunt May to Oscar winner Marisa Tomei. Naturally this has some fans a bit confused since Aunt May, both in the comics and the movies so far, is traditionally supposed to be an older, more frail woman. Apparently Tomei hasn't fully signed on the dotted line just yet, but if she does, she'll easily be the youngest big screen version yet. Tomei is 50, Sally Field was 66 when she took on the role in The Amazing Spider-Man, and Rosemary Harris was 75 at the... Brad Bird's 'The Iron Giant' Gets a Re-Release This Fall With Additional Scenes Posted: 08 Jul 2015 06:30 PM PDT Brad Bird could use some positive spin this year following the disappointment of Tomorrowland. And here it is: The Iron Giant, his beloved 1999 animated feature about a boy and his enormous robot friend (voiced by Vin Diesel), is making a return to theaters this fall. Ironically, or perhaps intentionally to drive a point, the 16-year-old movie was also a box office failure. Perhaps this means in 2031 fans of this year's Bird release will get its own welcome resurrection. Good to be working with an old friend. 'The Finest Hours' Trailer: Chris Pine and Casey Affleck Fight to Save a Sinking Ship Posted: 08 Jul 2015 05:00 PM PDT Hollywood and audiences alike have long held a fascination with dramas on the high seas. It doesn't matter if they're entirely fictitious (The Poseidon Adventure, Life of Pi) or based on a true story (The Perfect Storm), there's just something about men and women trying to survive while the ocean rages around them that people love. In the next few months we'll actually be getting two movies that fit the bill. First up is In The Heart of the Sea, directed by Ron Howard and hitting theaters on December 11, 2015. And now today gives us the first trailer for The Finest Hours, starring Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Holliday Grainger, and Eric Bana and hitting theaters on January 29, 2016. Directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl), The Finest Hours takes... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
First 'Goosebumps' Trailer Breaks Out All of the Classic Monsters Posted: 08 Jul 2015 03:30 PM PDT Your parents move you to a new town. You meet a nerdy kid at school who becomes your new best friend. Then you meet the cute girl next door. And then one night you think she's in trouble, so you break into her house and accidentally open an original Goosebumps manuscript that erupts before your very eyes, summoning the Abominable Snowman of Pasadena into the living room. We've all been there. Okay, maybe not that last part. But that is the plot of the first big screen Goosebumps movie. It stars Dylan Minnette (Let Me In) as the new kid in town, Odeya Rush (The Giver) as the girl next door, and Jack Black (Kung-Fu Panda) as her uncle, who just so happens to be R.L. Stine. He's trying to live in quiet, simple retirement, until the new kid barges in and accidentally... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
New 'Ghostbusters' Ecto-1 and Villain Revealed Posted: 08 Jul 2015 01:30 PM PDT Paul Feig is on a roll! The director of the new version of Ghostbusters, which is currently in production, has been tweeting up a storm lately, and he just dropped an automotive bombshell. #whattheygonnadrive pic.twitter.com/bBLEhrfTEQ — Paul Feig (@paulfeig) July 8, 2015 In the original movie, the vehicle, known as the Ecto-1, served to transport not only the Ghostbusters themselves, but also their equipment, including their proton packs, so a converted ambulance with a spacious interior was ideal. When one fan asked to see the back of the new car, Feig responded with another photo. @szewcik_james Okay. pic.twitter.com/sHkx1Soj6p — Paul Feig (@paulfeig) July 8, 2015 The original Ecto-1 was built on a 1959 Cadillac...
