'Mission: Impossible' Director Reveals the Crazy Action Scene You May Never See Posted: (MINOR SPOILERS ahead. If you haven't seen "Rogue Nation," stop reading now.) Some action scenes are just too much even for a "Mission: Impossible" movie. From Tom Cruise hanging off the side of a plane, to Tom Cruise punching motorcycles with a BMW, writer-director Christopher McQuarrie's "Rogue Nation" is packed with exciting set pieces that fans of the genre will flip for. But there's one scene fans won't see in the new sequel, which is too bad because it sounds like it could have been an all-time great. Moviefone recently sat down with the filmmaker (below) for an exclusive interview, where he set the stage for the intense chase scene, which involves Ethan Hunt (Cruise), some bad guys and a very unique landmark. "There was one we really loved [that involved] a glass bridge -- a footbridge going from one building to another," revealed McQuarrie. "And that glass device Ethan uses to break into the factory or the power plant [in "Rogue Nation"], he uses the same glass breaking device to destroy this entire glass bridge." McQuarrie went on to say that the stakes of the scene would find Hunt facing "bad guys coming from both sides" of the bridge, which is why Hunt must blow it up. "It was going to be this spectacular image," McQuarrie said, "and unfortunately it was just so unbelievably expensive and we had to jump through so many hoops to put them on that glass bridge, we ultimately put it in the file with all the other things that will show up in another [film]." Wait - so does that mean we will see it in "Mission 6?" "You will," the director assured. Whenever the next film comes out, "Rogue Nation" will more than tide you over till then when it hits theaters Friday. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Tom Cruise on How 'Mission: Impossible' Raises the Emotional Stakes Posted: Five movies in, Tom Cruise's "Mission: Impossible" series shows no signs of slowing down. "Rogue Nation" marks Cruise's fifth time playing Ethan Hunt, IMF's point man for all things running, punching and exploding. The star insists on performing his own stunts -- which are some of the most intense and iconic sequences ever made. Each new movie tops the one before, and the star recently told Moviefone how he keeps raising the bar with each sequel. "Rogue Nation" hits theaters this Friday. Michael Keaton and Rachel McAdams Dig Into Church Scandal in 'Spotlight' Trailer Posted: "How do you say no to God?" That chilling question is asked in the new trailer for "Spotlight," Tom McCarthy's drama about the real-life investigation into Catholic Church abuse allegations undertaken by Boston Globe reporters in 2002. "Spotlight" features a cast of eyebrow-raising caliber including Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Mark Ruffalo, Liev Scheiber, Billy Crudup, John Slattery, and Stanley Tucci. The trailer alone is an acting showcase filled with intense stare-downs and fiery declarations. With that cast, and the weighty subject, "Spotlight" looks like an early awards contender. Watch the trailer. The actors worked closely with their Boston Globe counterparts, who won a Pulitzer Prize for their reporting. Their work helped put a national and then global, well, spotlight on sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy. "Spotlight" opens in theaters November 5. Want more stuff like this? 'Rogue Nation' Director Chris McQuarrie Reveals How to Make Great Action Scenes Posted: Ever wondered what goes on in a director's mind as they figure out how to splice together an action sequence? Well, look no further. "Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation" writer-director Chris McQuarrie sat down with Moviefone and gave us all the details on his decision making process, and how important "emotional stakes" are to an action flick. New 'Walking Dead' Season 6 Photos and Character Details Revealed Posted: "The Walking Dead" season 6 looks like it's all about "us vs. them" - and now there seem to be more of "them." Entertainment Weekly has several new photos from the upcoming season of the AMC drama, including images of characters played by new cast members Ethan Embry and Merritt Wever. The two actors' participation in the show was announced at Comic-Con, but no details of their characters were revealed. Now, EW has the scoop. Wever - who won an Emmy on "Nurse Jackie" - is playing Dr. Denise Cloyd, who is present in the "Walking Dead" comics. She's a surgeon whose skills will undoubtedly come in very handy after Rick (Andrew Lincoln) killed Pete last season. Meanwhile, Embry plays Carter who is "a combo of a few characters [from the comics] that we actually haven't hit yet or weren't able to hit in other characters," said showrunner Scott M. Gimple. "He is an Alexandrian, and has been there the whole time, just quite busy." From what we saw in the trailer, Carter does not see eye to eye with Rick. And EW has a third photo of another new character, played by Corey Hawkins ("Straight Outta Compton), named Heath who is a supply runner for Alexandria. Maybe he'll prove to be a better scouting partner for Glenn (Steven Yeun) than the cowardly Nicholas. "The Walking Dead" season 6 premieres October 11. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. First Trailer for Chilean Mine Drama 'The 33' Is Chilling and Uplifting at the Same Time Posted: It's nearly the five-year anniversary of the Chilean mining disaster that left 33 men trapped 2,3000 feet underground for over three months, and to mark the occasion, Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the movie dramatization of the event. "The 33" focuses on both the miners underground, as well as their loved ones and government officials working to free them above ground. Led by Mario Sepúlveda (Antonio Banderas) and foreman Luis Urzúa (Lou Diamond Phillips), the men teamed up to stretch their meager rations (just a few days worth), find possible escape routes, and keep up morale. Watch the trailer. The trailer emphasizes the feel-good, hopeful, "we're all in this together" aspects of the miners' survival. There are fiery speeches by Banderas and Rodrigo Santoro, who plays the Chilean mining minister. The movie also stars Gabriel Byrne, Juliette Binoche, and James Brolin. "The 33" opens in theaters November 13. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Watch Cara Delevingne Endure a Painfully Awkward Interview Posted: Every actor has had his or her fair share of painfully awkward interviews, but this one takes the cake. While Cara Delevingne was promoting her new movie "Paper Towns," she sat down for an interview with "Good Day Sacramento," and it did not go well. Check out the interview and prepare yourself for a lot of cringing. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Conan' Accused of Stealing Jokes on Twitter, Andy Richter Reacts to Lawsuit Posted: Put down that yo mama joke -- it belongs to someone else and you could be sued for lifting it! Conan O'Brien's team is being sued for allegedly stealing four jokes from a freelance comedy writer who claims he posted them to his blog and Twitter before they appeared on "Conan." Named in Robert "Alex" Kaseberg's copyright infringement lawsuit are Conaco, TBS, Time Warner, Conan O'Brien, "Conan" executive producer Jeff Ross, and head writer Mike Sweeney. The suit details the four jokes he claims were stolen, along with their counterparts on air. Here's one joke, which he claims he published on or around January 14: After he posted that joke, he claims, this joke appeared in the "Conan" monologue: Other joke examples involve Tom Brady, Cailtyn Jenner, and the Washington Monument. The "Conan" production company responded (via The Hollywood Reporter): "We at Conaco firmly believe there is no merit to this lawsuit." Conan tweeted that he's on vacation this week, and his show has been on repeats, but Andy Richter jumped in with some jokes about lawsuit: Haha. Seriously, though, what's worse: Stealing someone else's original joke or coming up with a joke so obvious several people could legitimately claim they thought of it too? Want more stuff like this? '13 Hours' Trailer: John Krasinski Leads Michael Bay's Benghazi Movie Posted: Paramount Pictures just shared the first trailer for Michael Bay's "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi," which is scheduled for release on January 15, 2016. (Should somebody pre-order a ticket for Hillary Clinton?) The action thriller is based on the non-fiction book "13 Hours," which chronicled the September 2012 attack by militants at the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. John Krasinski -- given no dialogue in this trailer, but clearly leaving "The Office" far behind -- stars with James Badge Dale, Max Martini, Pablo Schreiber, Toby Stephens, David Denman, Dominic Fumusa, and Freddie Stroma. Here goes: Michael Bay is best known for popcorn blockbusters like "Armageddon" and "Transformers," but he did give his trademark treatment to another real-life story in "Pearl Harbor," so it's possible he'll be doing something similar here. Is that a good thing? Watch the trailer. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Is Channing Tatum Exiting 'Gambit'? If So, Should Taylor Kitsch Return? Posted: Channing Tatum looked so excited at San Diego Comic-Con as he joined the Marvel team to promote his upcoming role in "Gambit." But now, just a month after the happy group photo below, rumors are swirling that Channing is leaving the movie: According to TheWrap, quoting "an individual with knowledge of the situation," Channing's "Gambit" deal is in jeopardy of collapsing and he's planning to exit the comic book movie. This source said Channing's reps are still in active discussions with 20th Century Fox, but it's supposedly known that "something is up." "Gambit" already has a release date of October 7, 2016, so if they lose Channing they either have to recast quickly or just take it off the schedule. Some fans think Taylor Kitsch should just come back as Gambit, since he had the role in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." But things are still in wait-and-see mode all around. Would you be sorry to lose Channing or would it be no big deal to recast -- with Taylor or someone else? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Watch Chris Hemsworth Starve With Co-Stars on Set of 'In the Heart of the Sea' Posted: Chris Hemsworth, aka the Sexiest Man Alive, is following his Thor fame with a couple of comedy roles -- "Vacation" and the new "Ghostbusters" reboot -- but he's also making waves in the thriller "In the Heart of the Sea." The movie is based on the real-life story of the sinking of the whaleship Essex, which inspired the novel "Moby-Dick," and it's headed to theaters December 11. Ron Howard directed the movie, which stars Chris, Cillian Murphy, and Tom Holland, aka the new Spider-Man. Entertainment Tonight got a first look behind the scenes and, in the on-set video, Chris talks about the cast's 500-calorie-a-day diet to be convincingly starved on screen. Ron Howard mentions that he talked to Tom Hanks about how to lose weight for a film, since the "Cast Away" star has done that a couple of times now. Here are a few set photos from the director and Tom Holland: Here's the official movie synopsis from Warner Bros.: And here's the trailer: Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Quiz: Would You Survive a '90s Slasher Movie? Posted: The '90s gave us many things: the Game Boy, boy bands, "Boy Meets World" -- basically, anything with "boy" in the name. More importantly, the '90s also delivered a commendable resurrection of the slasher sub-genre of horror moviemaking. Starting in 1996 with "Scream" (and slowly devolving from there), the latter half of the Decade of Grunge saw all sorts of deranged killers hit the cineplex, from knife-wielding maniacs to slicker-clad hook-killers -- you've probably seen them all. But is your knowledge of '90s slasher movies strong enough for you to escape death in a real-life scenario? Take the quiz below to find out. Hugh Jackman Wants Your (Brief) Suggestions for Final 'Wolverine' Movie Posted: Sadly, Hugh Jackman is hanging up his adamantium claws in the final "Wolverine" movie, which is scheduled for 2017. Director James Mangold tweeted that the the third standalone film would start shooting in early 2016. But before they begin filming, the star wants to hear from Wolverine's loyal fans on what they'd like to see. Here's what Hugh Jackman tweeted on Monday evening, to thousands of retweets and responses: Because he's a stand-up guy, Hugh quickly returned to social media with a short (too short!) video thanking fans for their responses and promising to read more. Has it really been 16 years? The first "X-Men" movie came out in 2000, so yeah that qualifies as 16 years of Wolverine on screen. Check out that first tweet to read the fans' plot suggestions. Some of the ideas are pretty good (and very funny). We're down for anything, especially if it includes more muscle shots. The man works hard to look that ripped, let him show it off! Watch Katniss Fight Jon Snow in Genius 'The Hunger Game of Thrones' Trailer Posted: You know nothing, President Snow! It was only a matter of time before the Internet produced a soul brave, funny, and skilled enough to combine the two Snows of "The Hunger Games" and "Game of Thrones" -- and that time is now. Enter David Elmaleh, whose spoof trailer "The Hunger Game of Thrones: Jon Snow Must Die" is the best thing you'll see this week. It's perfect. It fits so well, you'd think "Hunger Games" writer Suzanne Collins and "Game of Thrones" series author George R.R. Martin planned for this mashup the entire time. In the 1-minute, 22-second trailer, the synopsis teases, "Katniss Everdeen faces off against President Snow...Jon Snow." We hear Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss whisper, "Nothing good is safe while Snow's alive" while Kit Harington's HBO Snow is shown in his icy terrain. The battle and speech shots really do seem to belong together, and it was a brilliant touch to include Gwendoline Christie, who stars in both "Game of Thrones" and "The Hunger Games." Here it is: Genius. Where is this movie in real life? We need it. The only flaw is that it maligns poor Jon Snow, who doesn't deserve all the attacks he's already getting on his own show. If only Ygritte were still alive to stand up for Jon -- but Katniss killed her in bow vs. bow combat. Damn you, Everdeen, have you no heart?! Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Chris Pine Joins 'Wonder Woman' in Multi-Picture DC Universe Deal Posted: Chris Pine will boldly go where maybe a few other men have gone before by joining the DC Cinematic Universe. According to TheWrap, the "Star Trek" hero has closed a deal to play Steve Trevor in the 2017 movie "Wonder Woman," which Patty Jenkins is directing for Warner Bros. Steve will be a love interest for Gal Gadot's Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, but he'll also have plenty of his own action. (It would be fun to see Chris in damsel in distress mode, for a change, but perhaps they won't go that route.) There are no details yet on his storyline, but TheWrap said Chris' deal includes multiple movies and sequel options. Wonder Woman will make her debut next year in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" before her own movie -- with Chris' Steve Trevor -- comes out June 23, 2017. There was speculation that Chris might be playing another DC Comics character, Green Lantern, but apparently that didn't pan out. So who is Steve Trevor? It's not clear how they'll introduce him in the movie, but here's a description from Cinema Blend: We'll have to see how that turns out, and there's plenty of time for the details to emerge. Right now, Chris is filming "Star Trek Beyond," which just started principal photography in late June in Vancouver, with a July 8, 2016 release date. What do you think about Chris' Steve Trevor casting? Do you think he'll end up with his own movie, as part of this multi-picture deal? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 37 Times 'How I Met Your Mother' Was the Best Show Ever Posted: Every decade or so, a TV show comes along that touches you (appropriately), inspires you (to a certain extent), and makes you laugh so hard that milk -- and the Fruit Loops you were eating along with it -- comes flying out your nose. "How I Met You Mother" is one such show. And, in its nine-season run, HIMYM easily became one of the most legen -- wait for it -- dary sitcoms in the history of television. In honor of all the joy, laughter, and feels the CBS hit has given us over the years, we bring you the show's best moments, one-liners, sight gags, zingers, and burns. Oh, and there may be a couple of flashbacks in there, too. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Best of Late Night TV: Simon Pegg's Drunk Ron Weasley, Jimmy Kimmel Shames Cecil the Lion's Killer Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. This one is for all the Cecil fans -- actually, it's for all animal fans who can't understand the appeal of hunting for fun. On Tuesday night, Jimmy Kimmel actually got emotional when weighing in on the killing of Cecil the Lion, which is not funny, and he did not treat it as such. He shamed the guy who killed Cecil in an epic sport hunting takedown. "Is it that difficult for you to get an erection that you have to kill things? If that's the case, they have a pill for that, it works great. Just stay home and swallow it and you save yourself a lifetime of being the most hated man in America who never advertised JELL-O Pudding on television." BOOM. Slay, Jimmy. However, he emphasized that he's not against hunting to eat or to keep the animal population healthy or if it's part of your culture, but that doesn't apply to some dentist who just wants to collect a lion's head as a trophy so he can brag to his d-bag friends. Stay for the end of the video where Jimmy issues his call to action. You're a good egg, Jimmy Kimmel. Respect + 100 for this. The great Simon Pegg was on "The Tonight Show," following his fellow "Mission: Impossible" star Tom Cruise, who was there Monday night. Simon said Tom pranked him for two straight days while they were filming a car scene (which Tom drove himself, naturally). Tom kept sneakily heating his car seat in the already hot Morocco weather. It turned into a seat-warming prank war, and when you watch the movie you might be able to spot Simon turning on Tom's seat warmer since he did it while they were filming. Great story. If you can believe it, this Friday (July 31) is Harry Potter's 35th birthday, so Drunk Ron Weasley (Simon Pegg) returned to talk about his "Fifty Shades of Ginger," chug some Jack Daniel's, give himself 10 points to Gryffindor, chant "Weasley Is Our King," and cry for a while 'cause Hermione left him for Viktor Krum again. You can't blame her for wanting more, man. Step up your game. Drunk Ron Weasley was on "The Tonight Show" for Harry's birthday before, do you remember? Here's Simon answering fans' "Would You Rather" questions: And because we're obsessed, here's another Simon Pegg video, with Simon discussing how he's co-writing the script for the 13th "Star Trek" sequel: Danny DeVito was also on "The Tonight Show" and he and Fallon played Inflatable Flip Cup. Jimmy kept laughing at Danny, who told Fallon "When this is over, I'm gonna kick your ass." Danny also talked about working on "Taxi" and explained that he nailed his audition for the classic TV role by insulting the script. Have you been watching the great new show "Another Period" on Comedy Central? Actress Natasha Leggero is one of the main stars and here she is on Kimmel, discussing the first season. "Jimmy Kimmel Live" did a classic street bit where they asked passers-by if they had any nude pictures of themselves on their phones. Jimmy had the audience guess first, whether it was yes or no. This kind of thing can get creepy fast. Speaking of nude photos, Armie Hammer (there to promote his new movie "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.") was also on JKL and he just recently accidentally showed some nude photos to his hairstylist when trying to show off cute pics of his daughter. Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner were on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and talked about playing versions of themselves in the new Hulu show "Difficult People." Seth plays a gay prostitute in one episode -- they showed a photo, he just looks like a preppy college kid and kept his wedding ring on. Fred Armisen, Martin Short, Kate McKinnon, and Kathie Lee Gifford also have roles on the Hulu show. Amy Poehler is one of the producers and they talked about working with her. Trevor Noah, Odette Annable, and "Monty Python" hero Eric Idle were on "The Late Late Show with James Corden." Here's Trevor Noah talking about how he got the call to replace Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show." Big shoes, man. Huge. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.
