Kristen Bell Leaves the Sweetest 'Frozen' Voicemail for Girl With Brain Tumor

Posted:

What little girl wouldn't love a phone call from the real Princess Anna of "Frozen," especially when that call includes the news that she's been made an honorary princess of Arendelle? Avery Huffman, 6, hasn't had a lot of good news in her life so far, but at least she has that magical moment to give her strength.

Avery's struggle with a cancerous, inoperable brain tumor is being documented on CaringBridge. The news made its way to Kristen Bell, who voices Anna in the incredibly popular Disney movie. Kristen left a voicemail for Avery, and on July 24, Brandon Huffman posted a video of the call and Avery's reaction on YouTube:

So far that video already has almost 70,000 hits. Avery's parents, Brandon and Amanda, updated with thanks on Avery's CaringBride site:

It's been such an amazing sight to see so many people rallying around our family and specifically rallying around Avery. I'll admit, I've watched the video of her hearing from Anna/Kristen Bell, around 50 times, just to watch her face light up, and to hear her giggle and see her smile. Seeing it go viral and so many people sharing the same emotions I have when I watch it, I'm constantly reminded that while Avery is going through the worst possible fight anyone should have to, she's touching so many people's hearts and her fight and toughness is reaching so many people."

Absolutely. Props to Kristen Bell for making that call -- she's such a good egg -- and best wishes to Avery and her family in this fight against cancer. Long live Princess Avery!

'Star Wars': Michael Jackson Wanted to Play Jar Jar Binks, George Lucas Said No

Posted:

Michael Jackson, like most fans, wanted to be in a "Star Wars" movie. The King of Pop campaigned for a role in "Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace"; he hoped to play Jar Jar Binks, an unfortunate choice for several reasons, one being that George Lucas didn't want to go in that direction. MJ may have found Lucas's lack of faith disturbing, but -- in hindsight -- *not* playing Jar Jar Binks is something we should all feature on our resumés. So who really won in this deal?

Ahmed Best was the guy who ended up playing the much-derided character and he recently talked to Vice about meeting the late pop star who wanted his job.

In a Reddit interview, you mentioned that Michael Jackson originally wanted to play the role of Jar Jar Binks. Was that a joke?
That's what George told me. Me, Natalie Portman, and George's kids-we were at Wembley arena at Michael Jackson's concert. We were taken backstage and we met Michael. There was Michael and Lisa Marie [Presley]. George introduced me as "Jar Jar" and I was like, That's kind of weird. Michael was like, "Oh. OK." I thought, What is going on? After Michael had driven off, we all go back up to a big afterparty. I'm having a drink with George and I said, "Why did you introduce me as Jar Jar?" He said, "Well, Michael wanted to do the part but he wanted to do it in prosthetics and makeup like 'Thriller.'" George wanted to do it in CGI. My guess is ultimately Michael Jackson would have been bigger than the movie, and I don't think he wanted that."

It was probably for the best, all considered. "Phantom Menace" came out in 1999, and Michael Jackson would be gone just 10 years later, leaving a legacy that would not include Jar Jar. Ahmed talked about how poorly Jar Jar was received and his reaction to his co-star and the movie being criticized:

When was the first time you can remember being genuinely hurt by the negative reactions to Jar Jar Binks?
It didn't happen until the New York press junkets. The first person who kind of gave me an idea of where it was going was a writer from The New York Post. I didn't really think much about it because I always felt like the The New York Post was a paper that fed off of that type of energy, that type of negativity. Growing up in New York you know which papers give you the news and which papers give you the gossip and the Post was definitely heavier on the gossip side than anything else. But I was really surprised that everyone picked up on that afterwards. It's a very American thing to take somebody down when they're at the top and a lot if it had to with that; people really wanted to see George crash and burn. Unfortunately, this character was so new, so experimental; he became a lightning rod for all that. It was me, and it was [original Anakin Skywalker] Jake Lloyd who took a lot of the heat for the movie. Fortunately, I was in my 20s. I wasn't eight years-old like Jake, who I think took it worse. Jake had it far worse than me. I'm a 20-year-old from from the Bronx; I've seen and I've done things that were a lot harder than criticism in that newspaper. Although it hurt me emotionally and it was hard to take at the time, it wasn't debilitating for me. I just put my shoes on and went back to work. But Jake had a difficult time.

Did you find yourself ever having to jump in and defend him like a big brother?
I did. Earlier I did. Say what you want to say, but leave the kid alone, let him grow up. The amount of vitriol he took as an eight-year-old was just wrong, and it affected him.

Kinda feel bad now... but it's fair to have a negative opinion of a character, especially when there was SO much expectation and hype and excitement for a return to "Star Wars" and many fans were left disappointed by Episode 1. It's definitely not about wanting to see George Lucas crash and burn. However, there are still many Jar Jar fans and defenders out there, and hopefully Ahmed thinks of them and not the critics.

Chris Harrison Addresses Kaitlyn and Shawn 'The Bachelorette' Snapchat Spoiler

Posted:

THE BACHELORETTE - This is it. "The Bachelorette" Season 11 will infuriate and bewilder us for the last time this Monday, July 27 when the finale airs, Kaitlyn Bristowe chooses between Shawn Booth, Nick Viall and herself, and it's all given an overly positive spin on "After the Final Rose."

Speaking of spin, what did The Powers That Be make of that Snapchat video Kaitlyn posted that seemed to give away the winner? That scandal-of-sorts played out in June when an image was captured and shared across the Internet, showing Kaitlyn in bed with Shawn. Up to that point, the running SPOILER, from Reality Steve, was that Kaitlyn walked away single and alone. After that, the spoiler was updated to say Kaitlyn did get engaged to Shawn and they are still together. So she either shared the Snapchat "accidentally" or wanted to get in front of the spoilers, since walking away solo has yet to be received well (ask Brad Womack and Jen Schefft) and Kaitlyn has already been trashed for enough.

Chris Harrison recently promoted the finale in a talk with reporters, and Reality TV World snuck in a Snapchat spoiler question. Here's that portion of the Q&A:

Reality TV World: Kaitlyn was criticized at The Men Tell All for not handling her role as the Bachelorette well. Her interactions with the men are controversial and people think she spoiled the show's ending by posting a Snapchat pic of herself in bed with one of her Final 2 suitors. How do you think she handled the position? Would you love to cast someone like Kaitlyn again or did she take the show in a Juan Pablo Galavis-direction you'd like to avoid in the future?

Chris Harrison: I don't -- you know, it's interesting. There's really kind of no right or wrong or yes or no answer to this. But I think what we found in this new age of social media and just where we are in this world, in this day and time, these people -- the Bachelor/Bachelorette will take us wherever they want, wherever their lifestyle and decisions and all that takes us.

We are more apt to follow where that goes. And we are more apt to follow that in a more, I think, open and realistic way. And you mentioned Juan Pablo and you started seeing that with Juan Pablo. You know, the decisions he made led him down that path and the decisions he made dictated where the show went, and Kaitlyn is the same way. I don't think it's good or bad as much as it is -- I mean, I hate this saying but -- it is what it is.

And so, we're going to kind of cover and let you see what they do. And so, yes, this season was good as far as ratings have been. But, you know, we never get a season like this or Juan Pablo's or whatever and think we need to recreate that because you can't do it. You can't do what we did with [Sean Lowe], you can't do what we did with Kaitlyn or [Ali Fedotowsky] or anybody else.

You really have to just kind of bring a person in that you think is the right person for the job, and then, go with it. And then, however that season turns out, that's how it's going to be. It's kind of a weird maybe obtuse answer to your question, but that's kind of the best way I can describe it, is we really kind of let them dictate where the show goes.

Chris is great at being vague, so it's hard to know how to interpret that social media quote on the Bachelor/Bachelorette taking us wherever their lifestyle and decisions take us. Is he perhaps saying that was just Kaitlyn's call and since it didn't really hurt ratings or anything, so be it? We'll find it soon enough if the new spoiler is true and she picked Shawn. If so, that means Nick gets to have still another awkward talk about taking second place after the Bachelorette made love to him. Can't wait to see him back next year. Third time's the charm, right? (Kidding)

Do you hope Kaitlyn did pick Shawn and spoiled her own season or do you hope there's a different twist coming?

'Once Upon a Time' Spoilers: Charming Has Hot New 'Bromance,' Snow Has 'Strain'

Posted:

Poor Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) and Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin). They just can't catch a break on "Once Upon a Time" -- but at least Charming may end up with a new boyfriend, of sorts, when Season 5 starts September 27 on ABC.

Season 5 won't just focus on "Dark Swan" and her sexy new look. We're also heading into Camelot, with King Arthur (Liam Garrigan), Guinevere (Joana Metrass) and Lancelot (Sinqua Walls) in their own love triangle. Entertainment Weekly just teased some interesting Camelot action for one OUAT's main heroes, Prince Charming himself. A fan asked how the Charmings will deal with their daughter Emma (Jennifer Morrison) going dark in Season 5. Here's EW's answer:

Not well. "It is definitely going to put a strain on Snow and Charming's relationship," Josh Dallas says. "There are things they're going to go through in finding their way back to Emma." But it's not all doom and gloom this season. "You're going to see Charming have a big bromance with King Arthur and go on some adventures," he says. "We're going to see Charming at his most heroic in Camelot."

Not happy to hear about this strain on Mom and Dad's relationship, but a bromance is always fun and it'll be good to see more heroism from Charming. Season 5 is now shooting and fans have been following the actors on set. Here are some shots of Liam as he joins us as King Arthur/Charming's new boyfriend: So it looks like King Arthur will be hanging out with the group in Storybrooke and we'll have to wait and see how that plays out. Head to SpoilerTV for a lot more tweets and videos from the set.

Is 'Wet Hot American Summer' Season 2 Coming to Netflix? Amy Poehler Is In

Posted:

A week from today -- on Friday, July 31 -- we will be heading off to Camp Firewood to binge-watch Netflix's "Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp." The eight-episode series, from David Wain and Michael Showalter, is a prequel to the 2001 movie, which became a cult classic. The second fans are finished watching all eight star-studded eps they're going to want more. So will there be more, like a Season 2 focusing on the next year at camp or whatever?

David Wain told Entertainment Weekly, "I think there's plenty more to do. If it all works out, it'd be great." One of the many stars, Amy Poehler, just talked to EW about her character, Susie, and whether she'd be up for a Season 2 return.

Oh, for sure. David and Michael and Netflix do it the way I like to do it, which is just fun and fast."

Yesssssss. But first things first. What can we expect from Amy's character Susie in this new "Wet Hot" series? Amy says...

We're going to see that she's a sexual person. Maybe in the movie, you were like, "What's her deal?" And then in the show, you realize, "Ahh, she's not getting laid." And it's bothering her. She's like, "Why doesn't my boyfriend like me?" Her boyfriend, played by Bradley [Cooper], is just not into it.... And then enter Claude Dumet [a Broadway director played by John Slattery who comes to Camp Firewood to stage a staff musical]. She's very impressed by his long list of credits."

So Amy Poehler + John Slattery, eh? Loving that "Parks & Rec"/"Mad Men" match. Besides, Bradley Cooper's character, Ben, would much rather hang out with Michael Ian Black's McKinley Dozen.

Are you planning to watch "Wet Hot" when it's out next week? Do you hope Netflix gives a green light to Season 2, maybe for a summer 2016 release?

Bryan Singer Teases 'Natural' 'X-Men' and 'Fantastic Four' Crossover

Posted:

Fans have embraced Bryan Singer's "X-Men" movies (so far), but what about "The Fantastic Four"?

The new reboot comes out on August 7 and the franchises are tied not only through Marvel but also producer/writer Simon Kinberg. Bryan Singer recently talked to Yahoo Movies about "X-Men: Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut" and spoke more about "X-Men: Apocalypse," but he also weighed in on the idea of an X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover. Long story short, it sounds like if both "Apocalypse" and "Fantastic Four" do well (with the burden really F4) then it may happen since there's "a mechanism" to do it, involving time, and "those ideas are in play."

In Yahoo's video, Bryan answered a series of fan questions, including if there would be another "X-Men" movie. Bryan emphasized focusing on "an expansion of the universe" with, potentially, "individual characters having their own films." But he said he's sure we haven't seen the last "X-Men." Right after that, he addressed the "Fantastic Four" crossover idea:

That would be a natural mashup, because they're both ensemble films and there is a mechanism by which to do it. I don't want to give it away. It deals a lot with time. That's all I'm going to say. We would have to see how the films turn out. How this film [Apocalypse] turns out, how Fantastic Four plays, to really understand what kind of desire [is out there] and how that would really work. I think to just say you're going to do it is kind of a mistake. I think you have to see how the films evolve before you make that decision to completely commit to that. But there are those ideas in play."

Do you think an X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover sounds like a good idea, depending on the characters in focus?

The New 'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials' Trailer Asks, 'Whose Side Are You On?'

Posted:

A new trailer for "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" takes viewers deeper into the mysterious, desolate world of the Scorch, a desert-like wasteland beyond the Glade that's teeming with its own challenges. Was it worth risking everything to escape in the first place?

That's the question on the minds of Thomas (Dylan O'Brien), Teresa (Kaya Scodelario), and the rest of their teenage crew, as they go head-to-head with the shady WCKD organization, and its murky plans for them. Janson (Aiden Gillen) tries to persuade Thomas and co. that they're making a mistake in venturing outside the Glade, but it seems like it's all just a bunch of mind games designed to keep them in their place.

Or is it? As we see in the trailer, the Scorch appears to be every bit as grim as foretold, and there's danger lurking around seemingly every corner. The Gladers team up with a band of resistance fighters to take down WCKD, but it doesn't come without great personal cost.

"Who's side are you on?" Janson asks Thomas at one point in the clip. The division between the two camps may not be so black and white after all.

"Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" also stars Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Giancarlo Esposito, Barry Pepper, Lili Taylor, and Patricia Clarkson. It's due in theaters on September 18.

Angelina Jolie to Direct Netflix Film 'First They Killed My Father'

Posted:

SAFRICA-AU-SUMMITLike her husband Brad Pitt before her, Angelina Jolie is taking her next flick to Netflix.

The streaming service announced this week that Jolie would direct "First They Killed My Father," an adaptation of a memoir of the same name written by Cambodian author and human rights activist Loung Ung, which details Ung's upbringing during the brutal Khmer Rouge regime. That follows Pitt's high-profile deal to direct "War Machine," which will also be a Netflix original.

Some background on Jolie's project, courtesy of Netflix:

Loung Ung was five years old when the Khmer Rouge assumed power over Cambodia in 1975 and began a four-year reign of terror and genocide in which nearly two million Cambodians died. Forced from her family's home in Phnom Penh, Ung was trained as a child soldier in a work camp for orphans while her six siblings were sent to labor camps. Ung survived and wrote First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers, which was first published in 2000. Jolie Pitt read the book and contacted Ung over a decade ago and they became close friends. Together they adapted the book into a screenplay.

Production on "First They Killed My Father" is set to begin in Cambodia later this year. The film will be released in both English and Khmer, and Jolie's son, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, who was born in Cambodia, will also be involved in the production.

The film will be submitted to international film festivals and make its debut on Netflix sometime in late 2016.

'It's Always Sunny' Star Rob McElhenney to Direct 'Minecraft' Movie

Posted:

rob mcelhenney, minecraftMassively popular game "Minecraft" is getting a dose of sunshine for its big screen debut: "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" co-creator and star Rob McElhenney has been tapped to direct a "Minecraft" movie.

Mojang, the company behind the game, announced McElhenney's hiring earlier this week. According to Deadline, studio Warner Bros. snapped up the game in the wake of the warm critical and commercial reception of "The LEGO Movie," and the hope is that "Minecraft" will have similar success.

McElhenney may seem like an odd choice, since he's most known for his caustic, foul-mouthed "Always Sunny" character, though Deadline reports that his involvement with that long-running FX/FXX series is indicative of his ability to transform a vague concept into a winning idea. He famously, along with "Always Sunny" co-creator Glenn Howerton and co-star Charlie Day, shot several episodes of the show before getting a network commitment, then shopped it around to multiple outlets before FX snapped it up; it just wrapped its 10th season, and has been picked up for an 11th and 12th season.

That DIY spirit should come in handy with "Minecraft," which, like "The LEGO Movie" before it, was an open-ended property without any cohesive narrative structure. Deadline reports that the game is "a blank canvas on which to launch a multiple audience quadrant film franchise."

Congrats to Mac.

Business Is Bad for Jake Gyllenhaal in This Exclusive 'Southpaw' Clip

'Southpaw' Exclusive Clip - Just Business
In "Southpaw," Jake Gyllenhaal plays boxer Billy "The Great" Hope, a fighter once at the top of his game who's now hit rock bottom. And as we see in this clip, premiering today exclusively on Moviefone, that includes losing not just his livelihood, but where he lives, too.

The short scene between Billy and his manager, Jordan (played by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson), is a pivotal one, as Billy suddenly begins to realize the severity of his situation. As Jordan explains, Billy will need to sell his house to pay off his debts; when Billy says he'll just train for another fight to make some cash, Jordan reveals that no trainer -- including his own -- will touch him.

"It's just business, man," Jordan says in a half-hearted effort to comfort a distraught Billy, though of course, for the boxer, it's anything but.

Check out the clip below. "Southpaw," also starring Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker, and Oona Laurence, opens today.jake gyllenhaal in southpaw

16 Things on TV I Can't Be Bothered to Care About

Posted:

nicki minaj taylor swift feud I write about TV for a living, I watch a ton of TV, and I read a lot of news about TV, including a number of much-hyped stories that seem unavoidable all over the Internet. Yet even I can't bring myself to care about some of them. For instance:

1. The Taylor Swift/Nicki Minaj/Katy Perry MTV VMA Feud. Two years, five years, 10 years from now, no one else will care either, so let's stop caring now.

2. The VMAs themselves. The one day a year MTV pretends it still cares about music videos. Again, a year from now, will you remember who won any of these prizes?

3. The Jon-Snow-Is-Alive rumors. Either he is or isn't, but I'd rather just find out when I watch "Game of Thrones" next season and not endure nine months of speculation.

4. Wealthy White Senior Angeleno Dads Who Become Women. Jeffrey Tambor deserved an Emmy nod for "Transparent," but his character's wealth and privilege and generally supportive grown kids make her transition story atypical... why, who did you think I was talking about?

5. President Obama's farewell interview with Jon Stewart. Mutual backslapping by two members of an elite club most of us will never belong to.

6. James Corden's acting-karaoke bits that see him channeling the visually memorable moments of more famous performers. This week, he and Paula Abdul re-enacted the "Opposites Attract" video. Let me know when he starts aping Craig Ferguson, and I might start watching "The Late Late Show" again.

7. "Lunch With Stephen." I admire Stephen Colbert's seemingly endless creativity and enthusiasm. He's so eager for the September launch of his "Late Show" that he's making viral videos for a show that hasn't even aired yet. But c'mon, these are just promos. Really clever promos, but still. These and the podcasts and all the other ephemera he's been dropping lately are threatening to make me sick of his "Late Show" tenure before it's even started. It's only seven weeks away, so go ahead, Stephen, make us wait, make us hungry.

8. The cancellation of "19 Kids and Counting." Maybe I would have cared if TLC had canceled it right away, instead of holding their fingers up to the wind for nearly two months. Instead, the network seemed to make a point of waiting to cut the Duggars loose until the family's scandal had fallen off the radar. Mission accomplished.

9. "Fear the Walking Dead." Why does everyone keep talking about the zombie apocalypse like it's actually going to happen?

10. The media's bafflement over Donald Trump. We didn't create the "Apprentice" host-turned-presidential candidate, but we've given him decades of free publicity. (I include myself in that "we," for every word I've ever written about him, including this item now.) So we shouldn't pretend to be shocked and astonished every time he does something outrageous (insult John McCain's military service, give out Lindsey Graham's phone number), especially if we keep giving him more free publicity for every stunt he pulls.

11. Judd Apatow's latest anti-Bill Cosby rant. True, Cosby is fair game now for whatever ridicule anyone wants to throw at him. Apatow even returned to stand-up comedy for the first time in decades just to mock Cosby this week on "The Tonight Show." But when did the "Trainwreck" director become the king of Cosby Outrage? Who elected him (and not Hannibal Buress, who started this avalanche)?

12. Wyatt Cenac calls out Jon Stewart for racial paternalism. Cenac, who for a while was the only black writer on "The Daily Show," told "WTF"; podcaster Marc Maron that he once complained to Stewart about what he felt was the host's racially insensitive imitation of Herman Cain, and that Stewart got defensive, chewed out Cenac in front of the rest of the staff in a profane rant, and drove the writer to tears. Yeah, that's pretty uncool, both the part about what Cenac called the "Amos & Andy" voice Stewart used to speak as Cain (by the way, Apatow's imitation of Cosby was pretty creepy, too, for the same minstrel-y reason) and the part about humiliating Cenac in front of his peers. Then again, Stewart's made a lot of edgy jokes over the years, and some have landed with thuds. And comedy hosts have been cursing out their writers in front of each other since the dawn of television. Stewart's alleged misdeeds are, unfortunately, not atypical for the medium. Hey, maybe Comedy Central should take him off the air. Oh, wait... never mind.

13. #AprilLives and #AprilDies. Vote if you like on whether or not Tara Reid should be crushed by falling space shuttle debris, but it won't matter; they'll still make "Sharknado 4: Even More Product Placement," no matter what we do.

14. Candace Cameron Bure and Paula Faris may be the next "View" co-hosts. For those of you still keeping score, that would make two former child stars (Bure and Raven-Symone), two comedians (Whoopi Goldberg and recent hire Michelle Collins) and one "GMA Weekend" newswoman (Faris). This is apparently "The View's" idea of diversity. But they could hire Tara Reid, and it still wouldn't matter. Stick a fork in this show, it's done.

15. Ted Cruz's opinions on "Star Trek." The presidential candidate may have stepped in it with the geek constituency with his comments to the New York Times that, when it comes to U.S.S. Enterprise captains, he prefers Kirk to Picard because he believes man-of-action Kirk would have been a Republican, while man-of-contemplation Picard would have been a Democrat. This is yet another reason, going all the way back to Dan Quayle and "Murphy Brown," why politicians shouldn't talk about TV or pop culture. Even Kirk himself, William Shatner, felt compelled to weigh in, insisting that it's foolish to attribute 21st-century partisanship to futuristic characters, since "Star Trek" "wasn't political." Not sure why we should care what Cruz thinks about "Star Trek" anyway, since it has nothing to do with his positions on real-life issues -- unless he plans to solve America's dependence on fossil fuels by acquiring dilithium crystals. By the way, not sure why we should value Shatner's opinion either. If he truly thinks that the highly allegorical "Star Trek" isn't political, he's either being disingenuous or didn't pay much attention to his own scripts.

16. Hulu's proposed ad-free premium subscription tier. Guess they finally recognized that no one likes their shows interrupted by ads you can't skip. Why, it's almost like they've been reading my column. Now, for $12 to $14 a month, I'll be able to watch "Seinfeld" straight through instead of with my finger on the fast-forward button, the way I watch it on TV. In fact, this is the signpost toward a cord-cutter's paradise. Eventually, I won't need a TV anymore. Sure, I'll have to download hundreds of apps to my iPad, one for Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and each traditional TV channel I want to watch. And I'll have to pay premium prices a la carte for so many of them that the total cost may surpass that of the bundled channels on my cable bill. Which I'll still have to pay so I can stream the shows on WiFi. But I won't have to watch commercials I can't skip, so it'll all be worth it, right?

Naomi Campbell Will Take on Lady Gaga on 'AHS: Hotel'

Posted:

FRANCE-AMFAR-FASHION-PEOPLEModeling superstar Naomi Campbell is set to strut her stuff on "American Horror Story: Hotel" -- and she'll be facing off with another big name.

TVLine reports that Campbell is joining the horror anthology series for a multi-episode arc, where she's set to butt heads with none other than Lady Gaga. While Gaga's role has yet to be revealed in full, we do know she's a villain (and apparently has some skin issues), and that apparently spells doom for Campbell's character.

"Campbell - who starts shooting next week - will play a fashion editor who pays the ultimate price for her critiques," TVLine reports. "In addition to Gaga, she will also have scenes with returning AHS alum Angela Bassett."

Sounds like "AHS" fans are in for an awesome ride.

In addition to Campbell and Gaga, actor Max Greenfield has joined the fold for "Hotel," the series's fifth installment. Returning "AHS" vets include Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe, Evan Peters, Chloe Sevigny, Matt Bomer, and Wes Bentley, among others.

"American Horror Story: Hotel" will return to FX sometime this October.

Three Dead in Louisiana Movie Theater Shooting; Amy Schumer Responds

Posted:

Three Killed, Seven Injured In Movie Theater Shooting In LafayetteA gunman opened fire at a screening of Amy Schumer's new movie, "Trainwreck," in Lafayette, Louisiana on Thursday night, killing two people and injuring seven others before taking his own life.

According to police, at least three people have died, including the gunman, who reportedly killed himself before authorities arrived on the scene at the Grand 16 Theatre. The gunman has been identified as 58-year-old white male John Russell Houser, who allegedly randomly opened fire in the theater during the screening, which took place at around 7:30 p.m. local time. He is not believed to have had any prior connection to any of the approximately 100 theater-goers, police said, and it is believed he acted alone.

As local and federal officials try to make sense of that horrific act, Schumer herself has offered her condolences to the grieving families and friends of the victims.

"My heart is broken and all my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Louisiana," Schumer tweeted late Thursday night.

Seven other people were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to critical. One victim in surgery late Thursday night was "not doing so well," according to authorities.

In addition to local officials, representatives from the the Lafayette Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police, the FBI, and ATF were all investigating on the scene, including sweeping the area for possible explosive devices. A suspicious package was found near the alleged gunman's car, prompting an evacuation of the surrounding area, but it was later cleared, authorities said.

Thursday's scene was an eerie echo of the 2012 tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, when gunman James Holmes opened fire at a packed screening of "The Dark Knight Rises," killing 12 people and injuring 70 others. Holmes was recently found guilty of that crime; he's currently awaiting sentencing, where he may face the death penalty.

Anders Holm Highly Recommends These 5 Movies

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.

First up, "Dawson Creek" star, Katie Holmes (sorry, this is forever how we will identify her), who stopped by "The Tonight Show" to play "Say Anything" with Jimmy Fallon. Basically, they took turns saying words at each other and she ended up covered in tape. Excellent.

Don't worry, Jimmy Fallon performed "Desire" with U2 at Madison Square Gardens and it was fabulous. But what's really amazing is that he self-identified as "Singer with a Broken Finger."

Over on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Meghan Trainor stopped by and a) was surprisingly hilarious, b) delivered a great impression of her brother's drunk girlfriend, and c) lives with her siblings in some rented mansion. The more you know.

Over on "Late Night," Ashley Benson stopped by to talk about the most important topic in the world: "Pretty Little Liars." More specifically, her completely insane fans (guilty).

And finally, here's Jimmy Kimmel's take on the feud between Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj, as told by Emojis.
