'Can't Buy Me Love' Star Amanda Peterson Dies at 43 Posted: TMZ confirmed the news of her death, reporting that she passed away at her home in Greeley, CO. After hitting teen idol status with her co-star Patrick Dempsey, Peterson left the entertainment industry in 1994 and moved back to reside in her hometown. In addition to "Love," Peterson also appeared in the 1985 sci-fi film "Explorers," opposite Ethan Hawke and the late River Phoenix. U.S. Women's World Cup Final Win Scores Soccer Ratings Record Posted: The 5-2 final match between the U.S. and Japan notched a staggering average of 25.4 million viewers, peaking at 30.9 million during the 8:30-8:45 p.m. EST timeslot as the USWNT closed out its epic win. To put those numbers in perspective, that broadcast easily beat out the previous soccer match champ, which happened last summer during the men's World Cup, when the U.S. men's team took on Portugal and scored 18.22 million viewers. What's more, the rematch between U.S. and Japan also topped their last showdown during the 2011 Women's World Cup, when the U.S. lost to Japan on penalty kicks in the final match. The audience that watched Sunday's game was 89 percent larger than the one that watched four years ago, when 14.1 million tuned in. And as Deadline reports, the impressive stats don't stop there. The trade writes:
And to put another historical perspective on Sunday's match, the broadcast also beat out the storied 1999 Women's World Cup final, where the U.S. team bested China for its second title and nabbed 17.975 viewers. This time around, for its record third World Cup win, the U.S. women surpassed that number by 41 percent. Congrats to the USWNT, congrats to Fox, and congrats to viewers; there's lots to celebrate today. Rumor Alert: Rachel McAdams May Play 'Doctor Strange' Female Lead Posted: According to Heroic Hollywood, McAdams has been offered the female lead in Marvel's "Doctor Strange," opposite titular star Benedict Cumberbatch. The site notes that this is just a rumor for now, and we'll stress that again: Nothing is confirmed until McAdams, Marvel, or both says anything about it. (Though Heroic Hollywood also notes that Comic-Con is coming up, and that may be a good time for Marvel to make such an announcement.) As for just who that "female lead" may be, that's also up in the air, though Screen Crush has provided a bit of background about some of the players from the "Doctor Strange" comics. The site writes:
We'll have to wait and see if this rumor pans out, but based on the film's impressive ensemble so far (Tilda Swinton co-stars, and Chiwetel Ejiofor is reportedly also in the mix for a role), it seems McAdams would be another interesting addition. Stay tuned. "Doctor Strange" is due in theaters on November 4, 2016. Alison Brie Slays Salt-N-Pepa's 'Shoop' on 'Lip Sync Battle' Posted: Though it's not the full song -- fans will have to wait for the episode to air to see that -- the clip still gives audiences a taste of Brie's impressive lip-syncing skills, and it seems that the petite performer has come to win. Brie makes it clear that she knows the song cold, mouthing the tongue-twisting lyrics with ease, and throwing in some sexy dance moves for good measure. (This isn't the first time Salt-N-Pepa has appeared on the show, either; the duo came to compete on the show themselves, going head-to-head on a previous episode of the program.) If this opening shot is any indication, Brie isn't going to hand over the "Lip Sync Battle" championship belt to competitor Will Arnett without a fight. Check out this teaser -- and Brie's teasing performance -- below. "Lip Sync Battle" is back on Spike on Thursday at 10 p.m. Photo credit: Trae Patton/SPIKE TV This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
What's New on Netflix, TV, Digital, and DVD/Blu-ray This Week: July 6-12 Posted: TV Worth Watching "7 Days in Hell" (Saturday on HBO at 10 p.m.) Bless whoever came up with this random 45-minute mockumentary about an epic seven-day tennis match. Andy Samberg -- looking more "Joe Dirt" David Spade than Andre Agassi -- and Kit Harington (Jon Snow + comedy = win) are the players, with real tennis stars like Serena Williams and John McEnroe giving commentary. "The Spoils Before Dying" (Wednesday on IFC at 9 p.m.) Are you ready for this three-night television event? Not possible! But it's coming anyway. "The Spoils Before Dying" is the comedy follow-up to "The Spoils of Babylon" miniseries. This spoof once again stars Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Haley Joel Osment, Val Kilmer, Michael Sheen, Maya Rudolph and more, this time following a 1950s jazz pianist turned private eye who gets involved in a murder investigation. The miniseries will air over three nights -- two hours each night, July 8-10 -- on IFC. Here's the trailer: "Lip Sync Battle" (Thursday on Spike at 10 p.m.) The must-see Spike showdown has been on a break since May 28, but it's back with a vengeance starting July 9 with Alison Brie vs. Will Arnett. The rest of the guests are just as awesome (Justin Bieber vs. Deion Sanders?!) and you won't want to miss a single note. "Masters of Sex" (Sunday on Showtime at 10 p.m.) Showtime is bringing sexy -- or at least clinical discussions of sex organs -- back for Season 3 of the Lizzy Caplan/Michael Sheen drama. Episode 1 has the great title "Parliament of Owls," and follows Masters and Johnson as they prepare to publish their study. "Strangerland" (iTunes) On July 10, iTunes will start streaming four movies that also open on the same day in theaters: "Nowitzki," "What We Did On Our Holiday," "10,000 KM" and "Strangerland." In "Strangerland," Nicole Kidman and Joseph Fiennes play a couple who discover that their teenage children have disappeared just before a massive dust storm hits their remote Australian town. "Prime Suspect" (Hulu) Settle in and prepare to binge on seven seasons of the original Helen Mirren police procedural masterpiece. This puppy got an NBC remake, but nothing compares to the British version, with Mirren as Jane Tennison, one of the first female Detective Chief Inspectors in Greater London's Metropolitan Police Service. Watch Seasons 1-7 on Hulu starting July 9. "True Story" James Franco and Jonah Hill star in this psychological thriller based on a chilling real-life story. It's available on Digital HD this Friday, July 10, well ahead of its August 4 DVD/Blu-ray release. Hill plays a disgraced New York Times reporter who learns that an accused killer (Franco) has been impersonating him, leading to a fascinating game of cat-and-mouse. "Woman in Gold" Helen Mirren plays a Jewish woman who -- with the help of her young lawyer, played by Ryan Reynolds -- attempts to reclaim family possessions seized by the Nazis. The Blu-ray includes "The Making of Woman In Gold," feature commentary with director Simon Curtis and producer David M. Thompson, and the trailer for the documentary "Stealing Klimt." "Maggie" In this father-daughter zombie apocalypse drama, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a small-town farmer who refuses to accept defeat when his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) becomes infected. Special features include a "Making Maggie" featurette, a deleted scene, cast and crew interviews, and audio commentary with director Henry Hobson. "Awaken" If you like your horror twisted, consider this black market body parts thriller starring Jason London, Daryl Hannah, Vinnie Jones and Edward Furlong. A group of young adults wake up on a deserted tropical island with no idea why they've been kidnapped, then let go, only to be hunted down like animals. Turns out, this is part of a human organ harvesting operation that picks and chooses from the strongest and most fit survivors. Sick! Ramsay Bolton would love it. "Chris Tucker Live" Chris Tucker's new stand-up comedy special premieres exclusively on Netflix on July 10. The "Rush Hour" star is the latest addition to Netflix's comedy special lineup, including Aziz Ansari, Craig Ferguson, Nick Offerman, Chelse Peretti and Chelsea Handler. "Serena" Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper -- who can't stop making movies together, not that we're complaining -- play newlyweds in this not very well received drama set in the late 1920s. Check it out on Netflix starting July 9. "The Secret of Roan Inish" This one started streaming on Netflix on July 1, but there's not a lot new on Netflix this exact week, so -- in case you missed it -- you should definitely consider checking out this 1994 John Sayles indie set in an Irish fishing village. 'Inside Out' Finally Beats 'Jurassic World' at Weekend Box Office Posted: According to new estimates that rolled in on Monday, "Jurassic" took second place at the domestic box office, placing just a hair behind Pixar hit "Inside Out." "Inside Out" claimed victory with a haul of $29.8 million over the Fourth of July weekend, while "Jurassic World" took in $29.2 million in its fourth week of release. While "Jurassic" still remains king at the international box office (it's already claimed the fifth-largest total on the all-time worldwide list with $1.385 billion in earnings), this change in the charts is a nice win for "Inside Out," which was no slouch itself in its first few weeks in release, bowing to stellar reviews and a jaw-dropping $91 million for the second-biggest opening weekend ever for a Pixar flick. So far, "Inside Out" has claimed $245.9 million at the domestic box office. As Moviefone previously reported, those large sums meant trouble for new releases "Magic Mike XXL" and "Terminator: Genisys," though overall, the box office is doing just fine for itself compared to this time last year. And with sure-to-be-hits "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 2" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" due out later this year, the movie business may see even more broken records before 2015 is over. 13 Hollywood Stars That Voiced Your Favorite Animated Movies Posted: Not long ago, voice actors in animated features were as unknown as they were unseen. The pay wasn't great, but there was a group of vocal pros (from Mel Blanc to, more recently, Frank Welker) who could play every part. But over the last quarter-century or so, thanks to the animation renaissance brought about by Disney and Pixar, animated features have gained prestige, and the anonymous voice pros have largely been pushed aside by A-list actors you'd never have imagined would do cartoons. Case in point: Sandra Bullock and Jon Hamm in the new "Minions," opening July 10. Here are 13 more stars who've defied expectations and made the medium of animation their own. Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams Join 'Ghostbusters' Posted: TheWrap reports that actors Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, and Matt Walsh have all joined the flick. Garcia will play the mayor of New York City, while "The Wire" alum Williams is playing a character named Hawkins. Walsh ("Veep") will play a character named Rourke. And according to TheWrap, local New York City news anchor Pat Kiernan will put those skills to use to play a TV news reporter in the flick. That foursome joins previously-announced "Ghostbusters" leads Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon, who play the titular heroines in the reboot of the 1984 comedy classic. Chris Hemsworth is starring as the foursome's receptionist for their fledgling ghost-fighting business. Filming is already underway in Boston (which is standing in for NYC in the flick), and director Paul Feig has already revealed a few looks at the costumes and gadgets that the cast will use. Based on everything Feig has said so far about the film, we're expecting some scary fun; with the addition of Garcia and Williams, especially, we're looking forward to some intense dramatic moments, too. "Ghostbusters" is due in theaters on July 22, 2016. [via: TheWrap] Photo credit: Jesse Grant via Getty Images This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher (Probably) Got Married This Weekend Posted: Both People and Us Weekly say that sources have confirmed the marriage of Kunis, 31, and Kutcher, 37. The former "That '70s Show" costars, who have been dating for several years, got engaged in early 2014 and welcomed a baby girl, Wyatt Isabelle, last October. Though there aren't many details about the nuptials themselves (hence the "secret" descriptor above), People reports that the wedding was held at "The Secret Garden at Parrish Ranch in Oak Glen, California, a secluded spot surrounded by apple orchards, ponds and mountain views." Neither Kunis nor Kutcher have said anything about the news, though that's par for the course with the elusive couple. Earlier this year, both Kunis and Kutcher faked out fans about the state of their union: Kutcher wrote a New Year's Facebook post signed from "The Kutchers," while Kunis played coy (and didn't deny anything) during a March appearance on "The Late Late Show," where host James Corden and fellow guest Tom Hanks pestered the actress about whether she was married or not. Based on that trickery, we suppose it would be wise to wait for official word from the pair before announcing the news with certainty. If true, this is the first marriage for Kunis, and the second for Kutcher. The "Two and a Half Men" star was previously hitched to Demi Moore; their divorce was finalized in 2013. Here Are 8 Badass New 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2' Posters Posted: Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta), Liam Hemsworth (Gale) and company will be at Comic-Con 2015 (and on "Conan") this week to promote the final "Hunger Games" movie. Eight new "Faces of the Revolution" posters were just released, with the characters looking like starters for Panem's new soccer team and/or a red-and-white version of "Braveheart." Here are the posters: Epic! These revolutionaries are rebels with a serious cause -- the rebellion against President Snow (Donald Sutherland). "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" opens in theaters on November 20. You've already seen the fantastic trailer, right? Watch it again. Sigh. Love is a battlefield... Want more stuff like this? Netflix Disowns Perfect New 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' Teaser Posted: Yesterday, a 35-second video appeared on YouTube, called "An Unfortunate Teaser," teasing the upcoming Netflix Original series. It was posted by a user named Eleanora Poe, aka the fictional editor-in-chief of the book series' The Daily Punctilio. The video is pretty polished and looks official. It already has more than 700,000 views, with more than 7,000 likes and about 700 comments sharing excitement about the new show and questions about visuals in the teaser, as if they might share hints on upcoming footage. Here goes: That's great and all, but a Netflix rep told Entertainment Weekly they are not behind this new teaser. Are they serious or playing games? If they are serious, they just got very fortunate. Hire this person. If they are playing games ... good. More, please. Either way, it's never too early to start promoting the bleak Baudelaires, since Netflix did acquire the rights to the 13 best-selling books in Daniel Handler's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" series. No word yet on when the Netflix Original series will premiere, but -- based on reaction to this teaser -- fans are ready for the bad news to begin. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'Big Brother 17' Spoilers: Da'Vonne Will Be Evicted Second, Twists No Help Posted: Hey, remember when Audrey Middleton was the obvious target for "Big Brother 17" Week 2? Those were the days! And those days are gone. Right now, Da'Vonne Rogers looks like she'll be following Jace Agolli out the door as the second houseguest evicted from BB17. No last laugh for her -- the house is basically unanimous against her, except for Jason Roy, now that she's up against Meg Maley. And no help from the twin twist, either, since she was too late in seeing something off about Liz Nolan. But maybe that can help Jason later on. How did it come to this? Shelli Poole and Becky Burgess won the two Head of Household competitions, and even though Becky's plan was to backdoor Audrey, Becky was dethroned as HOH when her nominations won the Battle of the Block. Shelli remains HOH, and she never planned to backdoor Audrey. She even seems to be working with Audrey at this point, and she and her showmance partner and co-HOH (it seems that way, anyway) Clay Honeycutt decided to target Da'Vonne. Last week, CBS aired Clay vs. Day, so it's no surprise that he would want her out, and Clay and Shelli believe Day will never trust them and always want to target them. At this point, it's not clear -- even on the live feeds -- what's going on with that phone call. So it's Meg vs. Da'Vonne this Thursday, July 9 and, let's say, Day answers the call and gets to stop three votes. ... That's still probably not enough to save her. She's facing a unanimous verdict, except maybe for Jason, but even he might just go with the tide. Then again, Da'Vonne just noticed that Liz might have a twin. If she and Jason confront Liz on being a twin, could they turn Liz's little Austin/Vanessa/Liz alliance on their side? If they also got Steve on their side AND one of them answered the seventh call, then MAYBE they could save Day. They'd need massive luck and a Hail Mary pass, but there's a 0.1 percent chance it could happen. Don't bank on it, though, since Day isn't even campaigning against Meg at this point. She's hoping Kathy's last laugh twist saves her, but it would take a lot of work on top of that. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 5 Reasons Why 'Magic Mike XXL' Bombed at the Box Office Posted: The male-stripper sequel was expected to earn in the low $30 million range over the three-day holiday weekend, and hit somewhere around $45M for the five days since its debut on Wednesday. Instead, it opened in fourth place with an estimated Friday-to-Sunday haul of $12 million and $27.1 million for its first five days of release. That's nearly 45 percent below the $49.6 million the original "Magic Mike" earned in its first five days in 2012. Ouch. Another sequel, "Terminator Genisys," also underperformed this weekend. The fifth film in the franchise opened in third with an estimated $28.7 million for the three-day weekend, and $44.2 million since its Wednesday debut. But at least those numbers were at the low end of what pundits had predicted. "Magic Mike XXL" wasn't even in the ballpark. Why did Channing Tatum and his team of male entertainers drop so fast and so far? Here are six likely reasons: 1. Channing Tatum Can Be Hit or Miss Outside of "The Vow," the first two "Jump Street" films and "Magic Mike," Tatum seems unable to attract the level of box office that other A-Listers can. (We're looking at you, "Jupiter Ascending.") "XXL" was sold largely on his shoulders (and pecs and abs) alone, and they don't seem muscular enough. 2. The Female Appeal That's been the big box office story all year, starting with "Fifty Shades of Grey" and "Cinderella." Indeed, exit polls show that 96 percent of "XXL's " audience were women. But it seems you have to have at least some men buying tickets to generate a hit, and "Magic Mike" had hardly any. 3. Needs More Than Just Good Word-of-mouth "Magic Mike XXL" earned a very good A- CinemaScore, suggesting that viewers would give the film strong recommendations to friends. But the film's older audience relies on more than just word-of-mouth recommendations. These ticketbuyers still read reviews, and reviews for the sequel were decidedly mixed. 4. That Big Drop Over the Weekend 5. July 4th Competition Usually, Independence Day is a good weekend to open a movie; just ask Will Smith. But this year, July 4 fell on Saturday, so fireworks and barbecues cut into the heart of the moviegoing weekend. Plus, competition was especially stiff, not just from fellow newcomer "Genisys," but also from unstoppable holdovers "Jurassic World" and "Inside Out." The two box office hits nearly tied for first, even though they've already been in theaters for four weeks and three weeks, respectively. But there is a silver lining (ish) here. Thanks to hits like "Jurassic World," "Inside Out," and "Avengers: Age of Ultron," this summer is running about 13 percent ahead of 2014, and only five percent behind 2013. But are these films, and December's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," enough to carry a whole year? They'd better be, if the rest of 2015 turns out to be filled with miscalculations like "Magic Mike XXL." This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

That is pretty freakin' sweet. We're expecting some good stuff from Margot's Harley Quinn, who was seen in leaked set photos opposite Jared Leto's Joker. Cara Delevingne, who is playing Enchantress, recently said there are only three women in the Suicide Squad, but "they have the best roles." We'll get to judge for ourselves when "Suicide Squad" is released a little over a year from now, on August 5, 2016. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.
