Marisa Tomei Might Be the New Aunt May in 'Spider-Man' Reboot Posted: With a brand-new Spider-Man comes a brand-new Aunt May. Variety reports that Sony and Marvel are in final negotiations with Oscar winner Marisa Tomei to play aunt to Tom Holland's Peter Parker. The deal is not done, nor are the details confirmed, but should Tomei sign on, she'd star in the first standalone "Spider-Man" movie due in 2017. Holland will make his first appearance as the web slinger in "Captain America: Civil War," which hits theaters next May. Aunt May has always been a key character in Spider-Man lore. She and Uncle Ben are Peter's guardians, though she becomes his sole parental figure after Ben's death. In the "Amazing Spider-Man" movies, starring Andrew Garfield, Aunt May was played by Sally Field. Tomei, who is 50, is the youngest actress to play Aunt May, but Sony and Marvel deliberately chose a much younger actor in Holland as Spider-Man. The rumor mill indicates that the companies, which are collaborating on the project, wanted to write a high school-set storyline for the next movie in the franchise. Want more stuff like this? R.L. Stine's Stories Come to Spooky Life in 'Goosebumps' Trailer Posted: Warning: You're about to get some "Goosebumps." Sony released the first trailer for the film adaptation of R.L. Stine's immensely popular kids' horror book series. Jack Black plays the author, who lives a rather reclusive life with his teen daughter Hannah (Odeya Rush). But things get shaken up when Zach (Dylan Minnette) moves in next door. One day, he opens one of Stine's manuscripts - and unleashes the monsters contained inside! Stine, Hannah, and Zack have to team up to contain them before they rampage all over the town. The trailer makes the movie look like good, scary-but-not-too-terrifying fun. A number of creatures pop up, from the Abominable Snowman to a werewolf to creepy garden gnomes. And since the movie has a more comedic tone, there are plenty of one-liners and wacky hijinks. "Goosebumps" opens in October 16 - just in time for Halloween. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Showtime's 'Billions' Teaser Pits Paul Giamatti Against Damian Lewis Posted: There are a lot of reasons to watch Showtime's upcoming drama "Billions" - will you groan if we say a billion reasons? - but a new teaser showcases the two biggest ones: Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis. Lewis plays a smug, rich hedge fund manager who will do whatever it takes (even if it's illegal) to make money. "When did it become a crime to succeed in this country?" he wonders. Giamatti is a U.S. Attorney who isn't going to let 1-percenters like Lewis trod over the rules and the rest of society. "Billions" already had us at "starring Giamatti and Lewis," but the teaser is just dynamite. Seriously, we're already blown away with just one brief minute of footage. Among the other reasons we're excited about the drama are the other cast members: Maggie Siff, Malin Akerman, and David Costabile. "Billions" will debut on Showtime sometime in early 2016. Katniss Rules in New 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2' Poster and Teaser Posted: Bow down before Katniss Everdeen. Just in time for Comic-Con, Lionsgate has released a new poster and teaser for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2." The cast and crew will attend a Comic-Con panel this weekend (moderated by Conan O'Brien!), where they'll unveil unseen footage from the final movie in the blockbuster franchise. The teaser is frustratingly brief - it shows Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) looking defiant and determined as she stands atop a massive statue of a hand in the three-fingered salute. We'll have to wait for that footage from the panel to hit the Internet to see more. Lawrence, along with co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, will be on hand to answer questions from fans about the "Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" wraps up the apocalyptic tale, as Katniss heads to the Capital to take down President Snow (Donald Sutherland) and win freedom for the districts. The movie opens in theaters November 20. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'The Finest Hours' Trailer: Chris Pine Is a Hero Facing Perfect Storm Posted: "The Finest Hours" covers the true story of what's being called "the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history." Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, and Eric Bana star in the action thriller, and Disney just released the first trailer. Check it out: It's hard not to make some comparisons to "A Perfect Storm," even if this is set in the 1950s and the plot is quite different. "The Finest Hours" follows a massive nor'easter that struck New England on February 18, 1952. The storm wreaked havoc on the ships caught in its path, including the SS Pendleton. Affleck plays the senior officer on board, who realizes it's up to him to take charge. Meanwhile, as word reaches the U.S. Coast Guard station in Chatham, Massachusetts, Bana's warrant officer orders a daring operation to rescue the stranded men. Four men, led by Pine's Coast Guard captain, set out in a wooden lifeboat with an ill-equipped engine and little means of navigation to face freezing temperatures, 60-foot high waves, and hurricane-force winds. Talk about heroes! Disney plans to release "The Finest Hours" on January 29, 2016. What do you think, so far? Watch the trailer. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'The Walking Dead' Boss Cancels Comic-Con 2015 Plans After Throat Surgery Posted: Where's Daryl Dixon with an emotional ugly cry when you need one? Robert Kirkman is the "The Walking Dead" comic book writer and AMC show executive producer, and also producer of the spinoff, "Fear the Walking Dead," and he has a dozen other jobs. He was going to promote them all this week at Comic-Con 2015. He's a SDCC staple -- Norman Reedus (who is also in Kirkman's upcoming movie "Air") even called him "the God of Comic-Con." But this deity is a little too mortal, and throat surgery is going to bench him from the many panels he was scheduled to speak at this week. Fans will truly be missing a lot of important insight without Kirkman's voice. Here's the (surprisingly funny, especially toward the end) update from Robert Kirkman, posted July 7 to his Skybound site:
There you go -- you have your marching orders: Bootleg the "Deadpool" trailer for "The Walking Dead" creator, since he won't be there in person. Also, the big "Walking Dead" Season 6 trailer will be released this Friday, July 10 during the TWD panel; after it premieres, we should all tweet Kirkman with questions about it, since he seems to have some free time. Get well soon, man! Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Can You Match All 12 Animated Characters to the Actors Who Voice Them? Posted: All voice actors are not created equal. In fact, some are far more memorable than others, especially when the characters they lend their talents to end up becoming animation icons, forever burned into brains (and eyes) of kids and parents everywhere. But have you held on to the memories of those brightly-colored fictional figures tightly enough to recall all of the actors who voiced them? Let's find out. Match all 12 actors below to their hand-drawn or computer-animated counterparts, and prove that your perfect love for animation is still intact... or that your child's incessant viewing of these movies has implanted an unfortunate amount information that will never be erased. Either way, good luck! This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'South Park' Lands $192 Million Renewal Deal, Will Pass 300 Episodes Posted: "South Park" just got some great news today, worthy of many taco-flavored kisses. According to Variety, Comedy Central extended the series through 2019 -- ordering 30 new episodes in a renewal that will take it through its 23rd season and top the 300-episode mark. Also, Trey Parker and Matt Stone's South Park Digital Studios, in a joint move with Viacom, renewed the SVOD deal with Hulu to cover the additional seasons. The Hollywood Reporter added this financial perspective: "The streaming service will pay Viacom and the show's creative team $192 million over five years, according to sources." They also noted that "$110 million [is] earmarked for the creative team over the five-year period." Season 19 starts in September, so they won't be killing Kenny for at least another five seasons. Those bastards ... are now incredibly rich. Trey and Matt continue to write and direct every episode, so there will be no "Screw you guys, I'm going home to roll in a pile of money" anytime soon. They're grateful for the chance to live the dream. The creators shared a statement, via Variety, praising Doug Herzog, president of Viacom Music & Entertainment Group: "We love working for Doug and with everyone at Comedy Central. They've given us an insane level of artistic and creative freedom for almost 20 years. They walk the walk." "South Park" Season 19 premieres September 16. Want more stuff like this? 'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Breaks Record With 20 Million Viewers Posted: Valar viewthronis -- all men must watch "Game of Thrones"! We already knew that the June 14 Season 5 finale set a new record with 8.11 million viewers, but HBO just updated with big picture details on its spring 2015 programming -- including numbers from HBO linear, DVD, HBO On Demand, and HBO GO/NOW -- and the results offer more good news for GoT's fifth season: Hodor! Imagine how many viewers they'll get if they kill off everyone else we like in Season 6. "Game of Thrones" Season 5 was epic, overall, but also controversial -- at first for being too slow for some fans, then later for killing or torturing just about every likable character. But they have us hooked. There's no way we won't be there to find out what happens next in 2016's Season 6, and even if it pisses us off as much as Sansa Stark's entire Season 5 storyline we'll still be there to see more in Season 7. Seven hells, we're addicts, and there's no turning back until The End. (And even after The End we're still hoping for a full prequel series, following Rhaegar, Lyanna, Robert, etc. Maybe?) As you probably know, the cast of "Game of Thrones" will be at Comic-Con this Friday, July 10, and also on "Conan," so hopefully they tease out some interesting Season 6 details -- beyond all the Jon Snow speculation. 'Ghostbusters' Director Reveals Reboot Car, Responds (Politely) to Hater Posted: Who we gotta call to get one of these sweet rides?! Paul Feig and company are now filming the new "Ghostbusters" reboot, and after sharing a look at the costumes and revealing more details about the cast, we now have a visual on the new ECTO-1 the Ghostbusters will be driving in the movie: Hopefully they still get to slide down a fireman's pole when the alarm goes off for a call. We love what we've seen so far -- almost as much as Egon loves spores, molds and fungus -- but some fans are feeling funky about the whole thing and they have not been shy with their complaints. Most of the replies to the #whattheygonnadrive photo were positive, but one guy tweeted to the director: "i'm not sure if you're either blocking or deleting all negative tweets about this, but it looks terrible. I'm saying that as a fan." So Paul, ever-so-politely, responded: Very classy. But now more fans are suggesting changes, as if this is a group project. If you're not into the idea of rebooting a comedy classic like "Ghostbusters," that's cool. Totally understandable. Nothing Paul, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones post is likely to change your mind. But if you're curious about the movie, why not trust that these guys know what they're doing. I mean, they cast Chris Hemsworth in the Annie Potts role -- how is that not already a sign of genius?Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'Fear the Walking Dead': Watch the Cast's Revealing New Set Video Posted: Are you excited for the zombie apocalypse to start? "The Walking Dead" and "Fear the Walking Dead" are both having Comic-Con panels this Friday, July 10 in San Diego, and AMC issued a new behind-the-scenes set video for the spinoff in advance of SDCC. The 3-minute set video was shot in the first week of "Fear" filming, launching the short six-episode first season. A full Season 2 has already been OK'd for 2016. One thing we're expecting on Friday is a specific Season 1 premiere date beyond "August." It would also be cool to see a full trailer, but for now we're excited to hear from stars Kim Dickens (Madison), Cliff Curtis (Travis), and Alycia Debnam-Carey (Alicia), as well as producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Dave Alpert, Greg Nicotero and showrunner Dave Erickson. As Dave reiterated, this "Walking Dead" spinoff/companion series is first and foremost a family drama that evolves into a genre piece, and it's set in the gritty location of Los Angeles at the dawn of the outbreak. Alycia Debnam-Carey: "The stuff they do is so fun, like, every different way you see zombies and everything is going to be really cool." Cliff Curtis: "When I read the script it didn't read like a genre piece to me at all." Dave Erickson: "Every aspect and element of the apocalypse is filtered through our core family." Kim Dickens: "There's so many layers to this, it's not just about the genre, it's about the humanity within the genre." Robert Kirkman: "Having society stripped from these people in real time is going to make this show more emotional, so that's something that I'm really excited about." That's a good point. The main show mostly skipped the early days when everything was falling apart, so we should see more real-time terror, confusion, shock and the whole gamut of emotions from this group. Let's hope we like them as much as TWD's characters! Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Patrick Dempsey Reacts to Death of 'Can't Buy Me Love' Co-Star Posted: Two days ago, it was revealed that actress Amanda Peterson had been found dead in her apartment in Colorado. She would've turned 44 today, July 8. It's still not known what happened, but ABC News was told the cause will be revealed pending an autopsy. In every story, it was mentioned that Amanda is best known for the 1987 movie "Can't Buy Me Love" with Patrick Dempsey.
She's definitely gone too soon. Amanda's mother spoke briefly to ABC News about her daughter's "unexpected" passing, saying simply, "It was just a very big blow." We can only imagine the family's devastation. Hopefully the ensuing answers provide some kind of clarity and closure. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'Iron Man' Honest Trailer Mocks Marvel's 'Formula for Printing Money' Posted: Well! Someone woke up on the wrong side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe today. Screen Junkies just issued a new Honest Trailer for Robert Downey Jr.'s original "Iron Man," the "Marvel masterpiece that started it all" and, without which, would leave "Hollywood in the terrifying position of having to develop something original." (True enough.) As they mock: Poor Hulk! He's already been trashed in his own separate trailer. Screen Junkies continued: They're not wrong! But we're also not complaining, since "Iron Man" is one of the better movies to get an Honest Trailer takedown -- as opposed to super easy targets like "Daredevil" and "Leprechaun." The best part of this trailer? It's not the RDJ disses, it's Terrence Howard's billing as "Terrence How Ard Could It Have Been to Take a Pay Cut For the Sequels?" Want more stuff like this?
