Each week, we're posting brand new video from the Schmoes that'll give their spin on a given movie topic. Casting: James Franco Honors 'The Room,' Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon Buddy Up, and More Posted: 09 May 2014 06:00 PM PDT — We’re all still recovering from news about James Franco’s latest acquisition. The actor optioned the rights to Greg Sestero‘s book The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside the Room about the making of one of cinema’s “worst” movies, The Room. We won’t even begin to describe the perplexing plot of the 2003 oddity. It involves a melodramatic love triangle and a set of outrageously terrible performances — particularly from director Tommy Wiseau, who has to be seen to be believed. We wondered if Franco's involvement meant he would take on the role of the bizarre filmmaker. Sure enough, it looks like the Spring Breakers star will most likely be playing Wiseau in the adaptation. Seth Rogen is tackling the role of producer for the... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Trick 'r Treat' Director to Make Christmas Horror Movie 'Krampus' Posted: 09 May 2014 05:00 PM PDT Trick 'r Treat writer-director Michael Dougherty could make nothing but holiday-themed horror movies for the rest of his career, and you would never, ever hear even a peep of a complaint from us. We already know that Legendary has green-lit Trick 'r Treat 2 for the filmmaker, and today brings news that the studio has just hired him for another horror movie simply titled Krampus. Krampus is a legendary creature popular in some European countries that's sort of like the inverse of Santa. Whereas Jolly Saint Nicholas rewards good kids, Krampus punishes the bad kids. And now Dougherty and screenwriters Todd Casey and Zach Shields are planning to turn him into a cinematic icon. Here's what he had to tell Deadline about the film: “The dark ancient origins of our... Update: Roberto Orci Now the Front-runner to Direct 'Star Trek 3' Posted: 09 May 2014 03:00 PM PDT Update 5/9/14: It's now being reported that screenwriter Roberto Orci is "the clear front-runner" to direct the untitled Star Trek 3. He already has the blessing of Bad Robot and Skydance, two of the three main production companies behind the new film franchise J.J. Abrams started, and now Paramount is apparently very close to signing off on him as well. If the studio does, it will mark Orci's directorial debut. Previously 4/22/14: The Writers of 'Transformers,' 'Star Trek,' 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' and Many More Are Breaking Up We typically don't cover Hollywood breakups, but this particular one warrants a mention: prolific screenwriting duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are calling it quits together... Marvel's 'Agent Carter' Heading to TV; 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Renewed for a Second Season Posted: 09 May 2014 02:00 PM PDT Agent Peggy Carter is one of the best female characters in the entirety of the Marvel cinematic universe. She's strong willed, funny, dynamic, sexy, brilliant and just as interesting (if not more so) than the men who surround her. That's why it's such a bummer that her being a part of Captain America's World War II history means she can't be a big part of the modern-day storylines. Thankfully the minds at Marvel have found a way to keep her around by creating the TV show Agent Carter. The series will still star the fantastic Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, and it will follow her time as a member of the Strategic Scientific Reserve, and an eventual founder of S.H.I.E.L.D. It'll be set in the year 1946 and will show the bold gal's life of "doing... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
First Look: Jack Burton Is Back in the New 'Big Trouble in Little China' Comic Book Posted: 09 May 2014 01:00 PM PDT John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China is one of the greatest cult films of all time. A heady ‘80s action flick wherein Kurt Russell’s Jack Burton character spews hilarious one-liners while fighting against the evil David Lo-Pan – a centuries-old dude looking for a green-eyed bride-- BTiLC was ahead of its time, but still found a very appreciative audience in the years since its release. During that span, fans have clamored for a sequel, and now we’re about to get it – albeit in a format we didn’t quite expect. Boom! Comics is bringing Jack Burton (and characters like Egg Shen) back for more adventures in their new Big Trouble in Little China comic series, set to debut on June 4. The Goon’s Eric Powell and artist... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
The Best Movie Trailers of the Week Posted: 09 May 2014 12:00 PM PDT Welcome back to Best Movie Trailers of the Week, a column where we handpick the best new movie trailers that have arrived online over the past week. 22 Jump Street The details of their new mission aren’t groundbreaking in the least, but top priority for a 22 Jump Street promo is to give you the impression this movie is going to be a good time, and this new international trailer does just that. Half the fun of the first film is the outrageous yet charming connection between Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, and it seems as though the editors behind this trailer are well aware of it. Even though raunchy jokes and big action set pieces are front and center, it’s the chemistry between the two that drives almost every single one of them. Under the... See the Air Force Reveal Its Master Plan for Stopping a 'Godzilla' Attack Posted: 09 May 2014 11:00 AM PDT It was a regular topic of discussion around the lunch table in my elementary school days: How would the military really handle an attack from Godzilla? Now, Air & Space magazine has tackled the age-old question by going right to the source: the U.S. military. Godzilla concerns are at unprecedented high with Gareth Edwards’ reboot of the popular kaiju franchise right around the corner – and that has many of us questioning if our military is really prepared to fight a giant lizard that emerges from the ocean. Well, rest easy folks because the Air Force soldiers stationed at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa--aka the likely ground zero in a Godzilla attack--have lots of good answers in this video. SRA Mark Hermann has all the logical bases covered – talking about... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
