These Are the Best Spider-Man Villains Who Still Haven't Been Used on the Big Screen

Posted: 01 May 2014 08:00 PM PDT

With The Amazing Spider-Man 2 arriving in theaters, seven Spider-Man villains have officially graced the big screen. Everyone will have a favorite (and a least favorite) among the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Venom, Sandman, the Lizard, the Rhino and Electro, but one thing remains clear: few comic book characters have a rogue's gallery as diverse and entertaining as Spider-Man. However, the five movies made so far have barely tapped the well of Spidey's bad guys. Since Sony obviously plans to keep this franchise going indefinitely, we hope it starts to dig a little deeper for the next few films. Why tread on familiar ground when there's so many other unseen characters to utilize? Here are the Spider-Man villains that deserve their due on the big screen...

The Last Horror Blog: Werewolf Cops, 'Wolf Creek 2' Reviewed, Krampus Tales, and More!

Posted: 01 May 2014 07:00 PM PDT

We’re barking at the moon over this Wolf Cop trailer – It’s good to see there’s still truth in advertising in the movie business. Wolf Cop is exactly what the title implies based on this awesome new trailer – a film about a cop who’s also a werewolf. What more could you want? Check out the clip below, which will have you panting in anticipation of the film’s June 6 release date.  It’s the end of the world as we know it in this Apocalyptic trailer – Found footage doesn’t look to be going away anytime soon, and while the form has more than its fair share of detractors, I’m still willing to give films shot in the format a chance. This new Aussie indie Apocalyptic actually looks like it might be good. A...

An OkCupid Date That Lasted 21 Days Is Being Turned into a Movie

Posted: 01 May 2014 05:00 PM PDT

In today’s chapter of “wild” and “crazy” things people do to become Internet famous is this story of two lonely hearts who met via OkCupid and decided to spend 21 days traveling to eight countries. “It sure beat meeting for coffee,” one half of the globe-trotting duo wrote for Salon. Unlike most people who spot an online dating profile in which the man wears an “oversize Mexican mariachi bow tie” and click away, Clara Bensen thought Jeff seemed like “trouble of the best variety.” Naturally, she thought he’d be a blast to travel to strange lands with — “an old train along the Turkish coast, a giant ferry across the Aegean, a cramped bus through the Balkans, a series of hitches through Croatia...

Check Out This Freakishly Good 'Pan's Labyrinth' Cosplay Made from Household Items

Posted: 01 May 2014 04:00 PM PDT

Uber-nerd director Guillermo del Toro led audiences into a fantastical underworld in his 2006 dark fantasy film Pan’s Labyrinth. One of the most striking aspects of the movie, which takes place during the reign of fascism in Spain (circa 1944), are the creature effects. Del Toro employed practical FX work (including animatronics) and some CGI, but there was almost no computer-generated effects work when it came to the monsters of Pan's Labyrinth. The faun character, played by Doug Jones, is an impish, goat-faced creature made up almost entirely of earth, vines, bark and mosses. He guides Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) to the labyrinth in the movie. Jones’ makeup application took an average of five hours to apply and was difficult to manage for the actor. Although most of...

The Director of 'The Cove' Tells Us About the Biggest Story in the World Nobody Is Paying Attention To

Posted: 01 May 2014 03:00 PM PDT

Louie Psihoyos is pretty serious about the environment. His house is solar powered, he drives an electric car—the license reads VUS for “Vehicle Uses Sun,” it’s also the reverse of SUV—and yeah, he’s making a movie that may change the way we treat our planet. Psihoyos isn’t the first (or the last) to make a film that highlights how we’re killing the planet and guilting us to change our habits, but the Oscar-winning filmmaker of The Cove has more in store with his next film, 6, than exposing our sins. Screened as a work-in-progress at the Tribeca Film Festival, 6 (which producer Fisher Stevens said at the screening may not be the film’s final title) stands for our current state with the planet, as we’re on the verge of...

Watch: 'Dumb & Dumber' Trailer Turns Screwball Comedy into Serious Drama

Posted: 01 May 2014 02:00 PM PDT

People have been making hilarious recut movie trailers for years (Jaws as a romantic comedy is still arguably my all-time favorite), and today we take a look at Love & Lover – which reimagines Jim Carrey’s kooky comedy as a serious drama, with entertaining results. What we learn from these clips is that with some selective editing and a different soundtrack, a movie that’s a screwball comedy can instantly morph into a heart-pounding drama, complete with pathos, unrequited love and plenty of action. If nothing else, these vids give you an interesting look at how marketing manipulates expectations. If you can turn Dumb & Dumber into a trailer that looks even remotely like a serious film, then it’s obvious that all sorts of stuff can be manipulated to...

'Underworld: Rise of the Lycans' Director Will Wage an Angels-vs.-Demons War in 'New Babylon'

Posted: 01 May 2014 01:00 PM PDT

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans director Patrick Tatopoulos is getting biblical in his newest feature, a science fiction fantasy epic titled New Babylon. Tatopoulos will bring his background as a creature designer to the table for this story set in a near-future version of the Middle East where a war between demons and angels inspires the building of a new Tower of Babel according to a report in Deadline. Hydra Entertainment is producing New Babylon – which sounds like a match made more in Heaven than Hell. Tatopoulos had this to say about the project. “We have some very ambitious ideas for the world, characters and story of this movie, and I can already see that the innovative virtual design and story development techniques being employed at Hydra are going to...

Japanese Game Show Reveals How Movie Heroes Could Really Kick Ass in Outnumbered Fights

Posted: 01 May 2014 12:00 PM PDT

Whether it's James Bond, Captain America or Rama in The Raid 2, we've all seen one hero stare down dozens and dozens of bad guys and come out on top. And no matter how impressive the fight scene is, there's that nagging thought that there's no way they'd survive, and having the bad guys attack one by one is just a movie thing.  It's natural to chalk these ridiculously outnumbered fights up to filmmaking suspending reality, but a stunt on a Japanese game show revealed that maybe heroes really do have the advantage in these situations. The show took three Olympian fencers and threw 50 amateurs at them, and the results are kind of surprising in that it plays out a lot like it does in the movies. Instead of the amateurs attacking en masse, they...

Sam Mendes Explains How 'Skyfall' Will Tie into the Next James Bond Movie

Posted: 01 May 2014 11:00 AM PDT

We almost lost Skyfall director Sam Mendes to the stage last March when he told press he would be focusing on his theatrical commitments instead of directing the next James Bond movie, dubbed Bond 24. Eager to capitalize on Skyfall’s smashing success (a handsome  $1.1 billion worldwide), producers managed to reel him back in to shoot the film later this year, aiming for a November 2015 release. The extremely busy director recently appeared on Charlie Rose where he discussed Bond 24 and offered a few hints about the future of Bond. Previously, it was believed that Skyfall would be a two-part installment in the long-running series. However, Mendes has revealed that although Bond 24 will have a similar feel to Skyfall, it is not a continuation of the movie. He also noted...
