Reel TV: Meet the New Riggs and Murtaugh In First 'Lethal Weapon' Trailer Posted: 16 May 2016 09:30 PM PDT Shane Black is making headlines left and right these days. He's got The Nice Guys coming out in just a few days. He dropped the bombshell that Iron Man 3 had a female villain until Marvel changed it because they thought she wouldn't sell as many toys. Even The Rock is name dropping Black in Instagram photos. Surprisingly, though, there's a big Shane Black-related thing that just hit online that never even mentions his name: the first trailer for Fox's Lethal Weapon TV series. Lethal Weapon is the script that put Black on the map back in the late '80s. It not only spawned three sequels, but a new wave of grittier, saltier buddy cop action movies. It's also the movie that really helped introduce Mel Gibson to mainstream American audiences. Basically, Lethal... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Steven Spielberg is Interested in Doing a Superhero Franchise, Doesn't Think His Sequels Are Good Posted: 16 May 2016 08:00 PM PDT There's no greater brand name in directors than Steven Spielberg. And he's got another "Spielbergian" movie on the way, The BFG, which just debuted at the Cannes Film Festival. There, he talked to New York Times critic Manohla Dargis about how he still tries to keep things fresh in his career, and these are some of the more interesting points: He Admits His Sequels Are Inferior "My sequels aren’t as good as my originals because I go onto every sequel I’ve made and I’m too confident," he says. "This movie made a ka-zillion dollars, which justifies the sequel, so I come in like it’s going to be a slam dunk and I wind up making an inferior movie to the one before. I’m talking about The Lost World and Jurassic... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Harley Quinn May Be Getting Her Own Movie, and Could Bring More DC Comics Women With Her Posted: 16 May 2016 06:30 PM PDT "I am so not done playing her yet. I will do whatever I can to keep playing Harley for another couple years, until my body gives out and I can't do it any more." That's what Margot Robbie told our own Erik Davis when he spoke to the Suicide Squad star about hypothetically playing Harley Quinn in more movies. As it turns out, those movies may not be actual Suicide Squad sequels. According to Borys Kit at The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is already making plans to spin-off Quinn from her Squad co-stars. That doesn't necessarily mean Harley Quinn will be getting her own solo movie, though. THR also reports that she could be joined by a number of other female DC Comics characters, both villains and heroes. They don't actually name who any of... Guns, Ghosts and Helen Mirren Will Collide In 'Winchester,' Based on a Bizarre True Story Posted: 16 May 2016 04:30 PM PDT The Winchester repeating rifle may have one of the strangest legacies of any American product. Oliver Winchester made a fortune in the 1800s selling the guns, whose design didn't require the shooter to stop and reload after every shot. Oliver only had one son, William, who inherited the company and its riches upon his death in 1880. Just four months later, William died and the Winchester business passed to his wife, Sarah. That's when things got weird. Sarah believed the deaths of her husband, their daughter (two decades earlier), and her father-in-law were all due to a curse put on the family by the spirits of those killed by their rifles. This idea of a curse soon became an obsession, and so when a psychic in Boston told Sarah Winchester the only way to... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Cannes Buzz: Steven Spielberg's 'The BFG,' Woody Allen's 'Cafe Society' and More Posted: 16 May 2016 03:00 PM PDT The Cannes Film Festival got underway in the south of France late last week, and though the event is aimed mainly at film industry professionals, it's a great source of buzz for movies that will soon be heading to theaters in the U.S. For example, Woody Allen's Cafe Society opened the festival with the director and stars Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Blake Lively and Corey Stoll in attendance. Here's a video of the press conference that followed the next day. Reaction to the film was mixed: "There is enough in it to please Allen's fans and confound those who think the old boy, 80 now and still churning out a film a year, should stick to playing his beloved sax." (Daily Mail) "Although much of Café Society is familiar, Allen... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 16 May 2016 01:30 PM PDT Ocean's Eleven: Jennifer Lawrence is rumored to be at the top of the short list for a planned continuation of the Ocean's Eleven series. Reportedly, she would join Sandra Bullock, with Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) eyed to direct. Bullock would play the sister of thief Danny Ocean (George Clooney in Steven Soderbergh's trilogy), described as an ex-con who "sets out to steal a necklace from [New York's] Met Ball and frame a crooked gallery owner." [The Tracking Board] Godzilla 2: Filmmaker Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) has dropped out of directing the sequel to Godzilla (above) in favor of pursuing his own, "smaller in scale" projects. The filmmaker first gained notice with the low-budget Monsters. The release date for... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
