Jennifer Aniston's Mother, Actress Nancy Dow, Dies at 79 Posted: Aniston announced the news late on Wednesday, releasing a statement to People. "It is with great sadness that my brother John and I announce the passing of our Mother Nancy Dow," Aniston said in her statement. "She was 79 years old and passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends after enduring a long illness. We ask that our family's privacy be respected as we grieve our loss." Dow had reportedly suffered a stroke in 2011, and a second one last year, according to People. Dow made her mark appearing in 1960s TV series such as "The Beverly Hillbillies" and "The Wild Wild West," and most recently appeared in the 2004 drama "Pure." She married her second husband, soap star John Aniston, in 1965. They divorced in 1980 when Jennifer Aniston was 9. Aniston and her mother had a famous falling out in the '90s after Aniston shot to fame with the premiere of "Friends." Dow reportedly angered Aniston by giving an interview about her daughter without her consent (and later writing a tell-all memoir, also without Aniston's knowledge), causing a rift between the pair. The two eventually reconciled in recent years. [via: People] Photo credit: ABACA USA This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Dustin Diamond Back in Jail After Parole Violation Posted: Diamond, who served three months in jail earlier this year on charges stemming from a Christmas Day bar brawl back in 2014, was arrested again on Wednesday in Port Washington, Wisconsin, the Associated Press reports. A jail official told the news outlet that Diamond was back in jail due to a probation violation, though no additional details were provided. The actor had been sentenced to four months in Ozaukee County Jail, and 15 months probation, after being convicted of disorderly conduct and concealed weapon charges back in June 2015. Diamond got out in April after serving only three months, after he worked in the jail as a janitor. It's unclear how long Diamond will be behind bars this time around. Just last week, the actor sat down for an interview on Extra with his former "Bell" castmate, Mario Lopez, and pledged to turn his life around. "I want to put the tomfoolery and malarkey behind me... for that clean slate," Diamond told Lopez at the time. "Time for a change." 'Project Runway' Renewed for 3 More Seasons, 'All Stars' Renewed for 2 Posted: Deadline reports that Lifetime and "PR" producer The Weinstein Company struck a lucrative deal that will keep the series on the air through a 17th season, and the network has also renewed the two "Runway" spinoffs, "Project Runway All Stars" and "Project Runway Junior," for additional episodes as well. "All Stars" got a two-season pickup, which will see it through to season seven, while "Junior" was renewed for one more season, following its series debut late last year (it had already been renewed for a second season; Thursday's announcement will keep it on the air through season three). While many venerable shows see a significant dip in ratings later in their lives -- and "Runway" certainly has shed some of its audience over the years -- Deadline reports that the show's season 14 finale last fall actually grew in viewership, boasting the series's best numbers since the season 12 finale back in 2013. In a statement announcing the renewal, A+E president and CEO Nancy Dubuc praised the show's "incredibly loyal audience" for helping to keep it on the air. Weinstein Company co-chairman Harvey Weinstein added in another statement that the series "has made a lasting mark on television history." (You could say they "made it work," Tim Gunn-style.) We're happy to know that we'll be watching designers frantically try to sew a couture dress in under 24 hours for many more years to come. "Project Runway" begins production on season 15 next month. No word yet on a premiere date. [via: Deadline] Photo credit: Barbara Nitke/Lifetime This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Alice Through the Looking Glass' Family Review: 5 Things Every Parent Should Know Posted: Here are five issues to consider before taking your kids to see Disney's "Alice Through the Looking Glass." Although there were a startling number of pre-schoolers and toddlers at a recent promotional screening of "Alice Through the Looking Glass," this James Bobin-directed sequel isn't an ideal first live-action movie or even an appropriate fantasy adventure for kids that young. The story is dark and features potentially upsetting themes about death, loss, grief, and dysfunctional family relationships. Although there's less violence in this installment versus the previous one, there are still scenes of fantasy peril and tense, near-death sequences that could scare your young child. The movie is PG but not G, and therefore expect a few scenes where characters look like they might die and in one case like the entire Underland may be destroyed. There are also emotional, distressing moments when characters say goodbye, seemingly forever. At the screening I attended, some young children were audibly crying at one point, unaware that the movie was unlikely to end in such a sad place. Those who haven't read Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" books may not pick up on how this film overlaps or diverges from the source material, but generally it's better for young readers and viewers to experience an original story before the adaptation. If you feel strongly that kids shouldn't see an adaptation until they've read the book first, take that into consideration before deciding to see the movie, but keep in mind that the movie is a really loose adaptation. Kids and teens who love the "Alice in Wonderland" books and the various adaptations will enjoy the movie most, unless they're purists about the source material, in which case they're likely to balk at all the creative differences between the new movie and the 1871 "Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There." Because of the occasional scares and mature themes, age-wise it's best for kids 8 and up. Ratings and reviews for "Alice Through the Looking Glass" are mixed to negative, with a "rotten" Tomatometer score of 30 and an unfavorable 37 on Metacritic. The more positive reviews praising the film think it's great for kids: "There is a pleasurable zip and zing to 'Through the Looking Glass' that marks it out as fine escapist fare for children," says Leigh Paatsch of Australia's Herald Sun. The more critical reviews think it barely resembles Carroll's tale: "What does all this have to do with Lewis Carroll? Hardly anything. It's just an excuse on which to hang two trite overbearing fables and one amusing one," says Stephen Holden of The New York Times. "Alice Through the Looking Glass" opens in theaters nationwide May 20th, 2016. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Upset About How 'Nashville' Ended? Don't Worry, It's Good News! Posted: As you know, ABC canceled the series after four seasons, but Nashies have been trending #BringBackNashville, and one of those Nashies is apparently series producer Lionsgate TV. Multiple sources told TVLine that the cliffhanger ending was a business decision to try and make the show more attractive to platforms to pick up for Season 5. A source close Lionsgate told TVLine the studio "is fully confident that there's much more Nashville to be told. Tonight's Season 4 finale ending speaks to that confidence. Not to frustrate or disappoint fans, rather Lionsgate, ABC Studios and Opry Entertainment are listening to fans' outpouring of support online for more." On that note, look what Lionsgate tweeted:
Yes! Lionsgate has reportedly been having talks with a bunch of interested networks, so -- as much as that finale may have frustrated Javery fans -- Nashies should trust that the studio knows what it has to do to market the show to a new home. After all, if everyone got a happy ending, and all loose ends were tied up, then it would really look like a series finale instead of a show that has more stories to be told. 'Game of Thrones' Stars Reveal Deleted Brienne-Tormund Scenes Posted:
Tormund's poor daughters. Then again, Jon Snow is prettier than everyone. Do you hope "Game of Thrones" includes more Tormienne moments? The showrunners rarely seem to react to what the fans want (except for their recent apology) but maybe they'll be inspired to write more Brienne/Tormund scenes in Season 7. Want more stuff like this? Johnny Depp's Mom Dies, Amber Heard Files for Divorce 3 Days Later, No Prenup? Posted: Late Wednesday night the news broke that Amber Heard, Depp's wife of just 15 months, had filed for divorce on Monday, May 23. According to TMZ, that divorce filing, for the classic "irreconcilable differences," came just three days after Depp's mother, Betty Sue Palmer, passed away at age 81. Heard listed their date of separation as Sunday, two days after his mom died. And this isn't a week where Depp can really keep a low profile; he's meant to be in the public eye promoting his movie "Alice Through the Looking Glass," which -- more bad news -- only has a 31 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. A lot of celebs try to file divorce papers during low-key times, or at least at the end of the week to avoid tabloid coverage, but there's no hiding this one. Also, Amber filed for spousal support, despite the barely-a-year-marriage. TMZ said Depp filed his response through his lawyer, asking the judge to reject Amber's support claim. No word on what will happen to the dogs she infamously smuggled into Australia while he was filming. TMZ's sources said they had no prenup, which is surprising. They're also deep-diving into the family strife, with a separate report claiming Depp's two teenage children, sisters, and mother all "hated" Amber. It's a bad time to remind him, but a lot of people questioned this relationship, not just for the age gap (he's 52, she's 30) but because he jumped into that marriage right after his 14-year relationship with Vanessa Paradis. People is also jumping into the fray, and their sources seem to be closer to the Team Amber camp. "Before Amber met Johnny she was just a regular super cool hipster chick living with roommates who dated girls. At their engagement party she kind of got cold feet... she was just like what is this scene and what am I doing here? She kind of couldn't believe it was her life now." So why did she marry him? A separate source told People, "When Johnny Depp wants you, you don't really say no. Why would you?" Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 'X3': 10 Things You (Probably) Didn't Know About the Infamous Threequel Posted: While "X3" was a huge hit at the box office, it was divisive with fans -- it's the poster-child for why third installments of movie franchises are usually regarded as the worst entry. In honor of the infamous threequel's tenth anniversary, here are ten things you need to know about the summer blockbuster. Star Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) wanted to bring his "Fountain" director Darren Aronofsky aboard. Joss Whedon, who wrote the "Gifted" storyline in the comics that inspired the "X3" screenplay, turned down the job in order to develop "Wonder Woman" (a project that would take more than a decade to come to fruition, ultimately without Whedon's involvement). "Layer Cake" director Matthew Vaughn signed on, but two weeks before filming began, Vaughn quit, citing personal reasons. He eventually returned to the franchise as the director and co-writer of "X-Men: First Class." He also received story credit for "X-Men: Days of Future Past." 2. At the last minute, "Rush Hour" director Brett Ratner was hired, who, paradoxically, had earlier been Warner Bros.' choice for the "Superman" reboot project that ultimately went to Singer. Ratner knew he'd be the target of fanboy wrath but shrugged and said, "You can't make everybody happy." 4. Ratner also made a point of upgrading Storm's hairstyle. "I do like the hair," Berry said of her new Ratner-ordered 'do. "That's the first thing he said to me: 'The hair -- gotta go. I don't know how y'all did it before, but it's got to be better.'" 6. An early draft of the screenplay included the villain Emma Frost, a role meant for Sigourney Weaver. The character finally made her franchise debut in "First Class," played by January Jones. 8. Jackman said Ratner set the tone for a less cerebral, more goofy shoot. "Brett wants to have a good time, all the time," Jackman said. "It's a very fun set." In fact, he said, the silliness that emerged in the outtakes might prove embarrassing if they were ever released. "You will never see the gag reel," Jackman said. "It's one of the funniest gag reels I've ever seen. Kelsey [Grammer, who played Beast] figures prominently, as does Ian McKellen. There's some stuff in there that would pretty much ruin the franchise if it ever got out there." The smoothing-out of lines and wrinkles, and darkening of gray hair and eyebrows, was done in consultation with an actual plastic surgeon, who made sure the resulting features didn't look too androgynous. Stewart said that, even with the digital trickery, playing younger was still an acting challenge. "We also needed, in the performance, to think about being 20 years younger, the way we sat, the way we moved," said Stewart, then 65. "I feel it now. Our bodies move differently. There's a fluidity which I don't have anymore, not to the same extent. So watching it made me smile a few times." 10. Costing $210 million, "The Last Stand" set a then-record as the most expensive movie ever made, though the record was broken a few weeks later with the release of the $225 million "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest." "X3's" debut scored $123 million, setting a Memorial Day weekend record, though another "Pirates" movie ("At World's End") would surpass it a year later with $140 million. Overall, "Last Stand" grossed $234 million in North America and a total of $459 million worldwide. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
