Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry Had a Mini 'Friends' Reunion in London, Baby!

Posted:

Cast of FriendsMatt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry held a mini "Friends" reunion in London over the weekend, making us happier than Joey Tribbiani exploring the world capital with with a giant, pop-up map.

LeBlanc, who's been in the UK a lot recently filming the rebooted version of BBC car series "Top Gear," took in some theater on Sunday, catching Perry in the play "The End of Longing," which is currently running in London's famed West End theater district. (And is the reason why Perry couldn't make it to NBC's James Burrows tribute, at which the rest of the "Friends" gang reunited to reminisce about working with the famed director.) The two caught up after the show and posed for a photo, which LeBlanc shared on Instagram, star raving that "[Perry] and the cast were great."

Went to see The End If Longing last night and ran into this dude. He and the cast were great. Way to go bro.

Of course, "Friends" fans know that LeBlanc and Perry have already hung out in London before: during the epic two-part season four finale in which Ross got hitched in the city, and his pals came along for some fun (and some shenanigans -- "I take thee, Rachel," anyone?). The episode featured Joey and Chandler squabbling over Joey's overly-enthusiastic approach to being a tourist, leading Chandler to bail on his buddy -- and miss out on a big celebrity sighting.

There's no word on whether or not LeBlanc later ran into a former royal and rubbed it in Perry's face, though we can only hope something along those lines occurred. London, baby!

Helen Mirren's Prince Tribute at the White House Correspondents' Dinner Was Perfect

Posted:

102nd White House Correspondents' Association Dinner - ArrivalsThe pop culture world is still in mourning following the shocking death of superstar Prince on April 21. Now, Oscar winner Helen Mirren has offered her own personal tribute to the late musician.

Mirren made a splash on the red carpet this weekend while appearing at the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner, where she stood out among her fellow attendees in a bright purple gown, a nod to Prince's signature shade. Mirren also added a hand-drawn tattoo of Prince's eponymous symbol (which he adopted as his actual name for a short time during his long and varied career) to her collarbone, which she pointed to in several snaps to draw attention to the funky tribute.

According to The Washington Post, the actress explained that she was inspired to make a public show of support for Prince because she was a huge fan of his work, and wanted to honor the musician accordingly.

"I admire great artists and he was a great artist," Mirren told the Post, adding in another interview that she drew the symbol herself "in the bathroom this morning."

We can only imagine that The Purple One himself would have approved.

Kerry Washington Pregnant With Second Child, 'Scandal' Season 6 May Be Delayed

Posted:

102nd White House Correspondents' Association Dinner - ArrivalsKerry Washington is reportedly pregnant, expecting her second child with husband Nnamdi Asomugha.

The news was first shared by E!, which cited two sources confirming the actress's pregnancy. Us Weekly also said that it had confirmed the news, though there's been no official word yet from either Washington actress or her reps regarding the story.

Washington, 39, and Nnamdi, 35, are already parents to daughter Isabelle, who was born in April of 2014. The pair got hitched in a secret ceremony in Idaho in June 2013.

It's unclear right now how Washington's ABC series, "Scandal," will accommodate the star's pregnancy. According to TVLine, the network is mulling holding the show's upcoming sixth season until the 2017 midseason, though no firm decision has been made so far. (ABC's 2016-2017 schedule is due to debut in two weeks, per TVLine's report.)

Washington's first pregnancy, which occurred during production of "Scandal"'s third season, was not written into the series; instead, ABC cut the show's episode order and decreased Washington's screen time. It's unlikely that "Scandal" will work Washington's pregnancy into the script this time around, either, especially following Olivia Pope's decision to have an abortion earlier this season. But we won't know how Washington's news will affect her onscreen alter ego until either ABC or Shondaland makes an announcement.

Either way, we wish Washington and Nnamdi well as they prepare for baby number two. Congrats to the growing family!

Justin Lin to Direct LeBron James in 'Space Jam 2': Report

Posted:

88th Birthday Of TLC Chinese Theater IMAX, Honoring Justin Lin, Zhao Wei And Huang Xiaoming with Iconic Imprint Ceremony"The long-awaited sequel to '90s flick "Space Jam" is one step closer to becoming a reality: Justin Lin is reportedly in talks to direct the follow-up.

The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop, writing that the director -- who'll next hit the big screen with "Star Trek Beyond" -- is currently in negotiations to helm "Space Jam 2," which will star NBA superstar LeBron James. And Lin reportedly comes as a package deal with writer Andrew Dodge, with whom the director is currently working on an untitled comedy screenplay and an upcoming HBO project.

Securing both a writer and director is good news for the flick, which has been churning through the rumor mill for a number of years (the first film hit theaters way back in 1996). James fanned the flames last summer when his production company signed a development deal with "Space Jam" studio Warner Bros. -- whose classic cartoon characters, including Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, featured prominently in the original flick -- and later confirmed his interest in the project. Now, it seems like it's full steam ahead for the feature.

There's still no word yet on if this flick will be a direct sequel or a reboot of the "Space Jam" concept, which centered around the Looney Tunes battling evil aliens on the basketball court alongside legends like Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, and Larry Bird. James would take over for Jordan this time around in the lead role, though we'd expect Jordan to at least make a cameo of some kind in the sequel. No other current NBA stars have entered the mix just yet.

Stay tuned to see who else joins the "Space Jam 2" team.

Patton Oswalt Shares Heartbreaking Quote From Daughter After Wife's Sudden Death

Posted:

"Young Adult" World Premiere - After PartyYou may have seen that Michelle McNamara, true crime writer and wife of Patton Oswalt, died in her sleep April 21 in Los Angeles. In addition to the actor/comedian, she is survived by their 7-year-old daughter, Alice.

Michelle, 46, died just before Patton's comedy show dropped on Netflix, and right after he had tweeted about the death of Prince. She wasn't known to be ill, and Kevin McLaughlin of Main Stage Public Relations told CNN, "Her passing was a complete shock to her family and friends, who loved her dearly." According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cause of death may take months to determine because the L.A. County coroner's office is so backed up with cases.

Patton Oswalt was understandably silent on social media for a while, but returned April 29 to praise his wife and share a link to a donation page where fans can support the writing non-profit 826LA in her honor.

Patton also retweeted other tributes to Michelle:

A couple of days after that, he returned to share a heartbreaking, but very wise, quote from their daughter Alice:

That poor girl. Your heart has to go out to her. It must be such a tough and confusing time for the whole family, but Alice sounds like a strong young lady with a mature perspective, and hopefully she can help her dad get through this.

5 Reasons Why Nothing Can Stop 'Jungle Book' at the Box Office

Posted:

Many box office analysts predicted that "The Jungle Book" would not only three-peat atop the box office this weekend, but that it would earn more than three new wide releases combined.

In fact, it earned nearly twice the combined total of those new releases. In its third weekend, the Disney talking-animal tale earned an estimated $42.4 million in North America, while newcomers "Keanu" (at an estimated $9.4 million), "Mother's Day" ($8.3 million), and "Ratchet and Clank" ($4.8 million) combined for about $22.5 million.

So far, "Jungle Book" has been blessed, not only by its own strong reviews and word-of-mouth, but by weak competition. Still, good fortune and good timing aren't enough to explain why the Rudyard Kipling adaptation has held up so well or why none of its rivals can muster up much interest on their own. Here are five reasons why "Jungle Book" bested all comers this weekend.

1. It's the Event Movie of April
This column has already noted the strengths of "The Jungle Book," including its calculated appeal to all demographics, Disney's skillful marketing, and the movie's visual spectacle that demands to be seen in 3D or large-format screenings. But the movie has also become the event movie of choice for the past month, helping cement April as the new start of the summer blockbuster season.

Having earned a very strong A grade at CinemaScore, "Jungle Book" has generated more enthusiastic word-of-mouth than any other April movie. As a result, the movie has boasted unusually strong legs, declining just 40 percent its second weekend and just 31 percent this weekend. On its 4,041 screens, it's still averaging $10,502 per theater, far above any other movie currently in wide release.

2. Weak and Poorly-Executed Competition
That's what's plagued many of "Jungle Book's" competitors over the past three weeks, at least according to critics.

This weekend, "Mother's Day" and "Ratchet and Clank" earned particularly harsh reviews, managing only an 8 percent and a 19 percent fresh rating, respectively, at Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences liked them a little better (they graded the movies B+ and B, respectively, at CinemaScore), but that still indicates less than avid word-of-mouth.

3. Market Saturation
"Keanu," the R-rated comedy from sketch duo Key and Peele, did get positive-ish reviews (75 percent at Rotten Tomatoes) and just-okay word-of-mouth (a B CinemaScore), but it had to compete against the still-strong "Barbershop: The Next Cut," another well-reviewed, adult-oriented comedy with greater star power and a less restrictive PG-13 rating. (In its third weekend, "Barbershop" earned another estimated $6.1 million, good for fifth place.)

In fact, the adult audience had more than enough to choose from this weekend, from last week's newcomer flop "The Huntsman: Winter's War" to "Mother's Day." "Ratchet and Clank," a cartoon based on a videogame, did have kid appeal, but not more than "Jungle Book" or even nine-week-old "Zootopia." It finished below both those Disney movies, in seventh place.

4. Dim Star Power
Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele may have a big cult following from "Key & Peele," but it didn't translate into box office drawing power. "Ratchet" has some big names, including kid star Bella Thorne and John Goodman (whose voice kids might recognize from Pixar's "Monsters, Inc.") but no one who's guaranteed to sell tickets, not even Sylvester Stallone.

And speaking of people who used to be box office draws, "Mother's Day" features Julia Roberts and Kate Hudson, neither of whom has set the box office on fire in recent years. It also features Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis, who've done well in recent years; they even had a smash together in "We're the Millers." But there's no reason fans of that raunchy, R-rated comedy would be interested in the mild, PG-13, family-themed "Mother's Day." Like director Garry Marshall's other recent holiday-timed movies, this is an ensemble comedy of interlocking stories with a common setting and theme, so its selling point is its premise more than its cast.

5. Captain America
In many ways, the box office is in a holding pattern until Disney and Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" kicks off summer on May 6 -- just like they did last summer when "Avengers: Age of Ultron" opened during the first weekend of May.

Already, the superhero showdown has opened overseas, where it did a jaw-dropping $200.2 million in estimated sales in 37 countries. No doubt it'll be similarly huge when it drops in the U.S. It's no surprise that the studios have been saving their big guns for the summer. If they'd waited another week to issue any of this weekend's new wide releases, even putting "Mother's Day" out on the actual Mother's Day weekend, those films would have been clobbered for certain.

Better to take your chances against the three-week-old predators of "The Jungle Book."

Cloris Leachman Turns 90 With Betty White Joke and the Best F--king Birthday Cake Ever

Posted:

2014 Entertainment Weekly Pre-Emmy Party - ArrivalsOscar winner Cloris Leachman just turned 90 on April 30, and she can't f--king believe it either.

The actress has been working steadily in Hollywood since the mid-1950s, with a filmography so long it would take another 90 years to read it. She's known for her TV roles in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and the spinoff "Phyllis," plus "The Beverly Hillbillies," "The Facts of Life," "Malcolm in the Middle," and "Raising Hope"; and film roles in "Young Frankenstein," "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "Spanglish," "The Wedding Ringer," and "The Last Picture Show," where she picked up her Academy Award. Leachman was also the oldest contestant to compete on "Dancing With the Stars," at age 82 in DWTS Season 7.

"Crazy Cloris" was a hoot then, and she seems just as sassy now. Check out her birthday cake, which she showed off on Twitter after thanking fans for their kind wishes, and gently reminding them that a certain 94-year-old friend of hers will always be older.

We're glad it happened! Here's to at least 10 more years, if not another 90, with Cloris and Betty. And we wouldn't say no to more creepy-classic Cloris moments like this one at the 2013 GLAAD Media Awards:
24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards - InsideYep, she's still f--king crazy, bless her.

Julia Roberts Paid $3 Million for Four Days of Work on 'Mother's Day': Report

Posted:

At least someone had a happy "Mother's Day." Critics and audiences did not embrace the star-studded rom-com, which has a depressing 8 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and opened to fourth place at the box office with $8.3 million. However, Variety reports that walked away with a $3 million paycheck for her supporting role, which reportedly took four days to shoot.

You get that money, pretty woman!

If true, that breaks down to $750,000 a day, which sounds like Monopoly money from here and shows Roberts is still able to command major cash after a long career in showbiz. Variety added that it's nowhere near the record $20 million she got at the peak of her career in 2000 for "Erin Brockovich," but that comparison isn't quite fair. She had the lead role in that film, not a supporting job that only took four days. Not just anyone could've done Erin Brockovich justice, and Roberts earned a Best Actress Oscar for her work.

It's not clear why Variety just got a paycheck report about Roberts, as opposed to the other A-list "Mother's Day" cast members. It would be interesting to get pay reports about roles of comparable size from, say, Bruce Willis, Nicolas Cage, Ben Stiller, George Clooney, Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, Robert Redford, Halle Berry, etc. If we're going to go there, let's go there.

Roberts had a lot of backup in making "Mother's Day," appearing on the poster along with Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, and Jason Sudeikis, in a film by "Pretty Woman" director (who also made "Valentine's Day," co-starring Roberts, plus "New Year's Eve," and maybe these other days of the year, eventually.)

Meanwhile, the real money made this weekend was from an unknown child star, some CGI animals, and an adorable real-life kitten; they all outdrew these A-listers. Do you think more fans will see "Mother's Day" over the actual Mother's Day weekend, which is coming up, or will they be too busy seeing "Captain America: Civil War"? Moms love Cap and Tony too, you know.

What's New on Netflix, TV, Digital, and DVD/Blu-ray This Week: May 2-8

Posted:

At a loss for what to watch this week? From new DVDs and Blu-rays, to what's new on Netflix and TV, we've got you covered.

TV Worth Watching

"The Good Wife" (Sunday on CBS at 9 p.m.)
This is it. The end of an era. After seven seasons of heartbreak (she'll always love you, Will!), headaches, incredibly sharp writing, and powerful performances from Julianna Margulies down to the many amazing guest stars, Alicia Florrick's story is coming to an end on May 8. The series finale, appropriately titled "End," was written by showrunners Robert and Michelle King, and directed by Robert King. Margulies told Entertainment Weekly the finale will be "satisfying, uplifting and sad." The showrunners have NOT shot down that Josh Charles return rumor, so here's hoping for some kind of flashback/vision/cameo/thing. Also, here's hoping for more of this, from Alicia and Jason:

"Project Runway: All Stars" (Thursday on Lifetime at 9 p.m.)
Who will win the incredibly melodramatic fifth season of "Project Runway: All Stars"? Will it be former winner Dom or one of this season's drama divas, Kini and Ken? In the 1.5-hour finale, "New York State of Mind," the final designers ascend to the top of the new World Trade Center to create collections inspired by New York City. Debra Messing is the finale guest judge. All four previous "All Stars" winners have been male, and two of those four have been past winners. So will Dom continue the two-time winner streak of Seth Aaron and Dmitry, or will Ken/Kini make it a five-member All Stars boy band?

"Criminal Minds" (Wednesday on CBS at 9 p.m.)
The 22 episodes of Season 11 end May 4 with a finale called "The Storm." Here's the synopsis: "Hotch is arrested by a SWAT team and suspected of conspiracy; when the team members scramble to prove Hotch's innocence, they discover a larger plot may be on the horizon."

"Frontline" (Tuesday on PBS at 10 p.m.)
Let's get series for a minute. On May 3, "Frontline" is premiering two short documentaries filmed in the heart of major conflict zones: In "Benghazi in Crisis," journalist Feras Kilani goes inside the war-torn Libyan city of Benghazi and reveals firsthand how chaotic the situation there has become, as ISIS, other Islamist militants, warring militias, and the Libyan army all fight for control. After that, in "Yemen Under Siege," journalist Safa Al Ahmad makes a dangerous return to Yemen and captures the chaos on camera. The episode will stream in full, for free, online at pbs.org/frontline.

New Video on Demand, Rental Streaming, and Digital Only

"The Witch"
This unsettling horror film won the 2015 Sundance Film Festival Directing Award (for writer/director Robert Eggers) and currently has a 90 percent fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics. It comes out on Digital HD on May 3, before the DVD/Blu-ray release on May 17. A New England family, circa 1630, is banished to the edge of the wilderness, and believe evil is at work when one of their five children goes missing. When the DVD and Blu-ray do come out, they'll feature audio commentary, a Salem Panel Q&A, and the featurette "The Witch: A Primal Folklore."

"Zoolander 2"
Tell Todd to get your damn latte and prepare to re-lax and watch the "Zoolander" sequel in its fashionably early Digital HD release on May 3. There's also a really, really ridiculously good-looking "Magnum Edition" combo pack with a bunch of special features, for when the discs arrive on May 24.

"Crossing Point"
A young American couple's Baja vacation turns into a nightmare when Olivia is kidnapped by a drug dealer and her boyfriend Michael is told to smuggle a backpack filled with cocaine across the border into the U.S. in the next 12 hours or Olivia will be killed. The action film -- written by Paul Dominic and Shawn Lock, and starring Shawn Lock, Jacob Vargas, Rudy Youngblood, Paulina Gaitan, Tom Sizemore, Luke Goss -- arrives on VOD and iTunes on May 3.

New on Netflix

"Marseille" (Netflix Original)
Gérard Depardieu, Benoît Magimel, and Géraldine Pailhas star in this eight-episode French drama following the longtime mayor of Marseille, who enters into a ruthless war of succession with his former protege. It sounds like a French "House of Cards," and you can watch it stream on Netflix May 5.

Here's the trailer:

"Grace and Frankie" Season 2 (Netflix Original)
Jane Fonda (Grace) and Lily Tomlin (Frankie) return in Season 2 of this Netflix original comedy. The legendary stars play longtime rivals who unexpectedly ended up on the same side when their husbands fell in love and got married. Catch up on Season 1 before Season 2 starts streaming on May 6.

Here's the Season 2 trailer:

"Ali Wong: Baby Cobra" (Netflix Original)
In the latest Netflix original special, Ali Wong uses her stand-up routine to delve into "her sexual adventures, hoarding, the rocky road to pregnancy, and why feminism is terrible."

New on DVD and Blu-ray

"Independence Day" 20th Anniversary Edition
It's hard to believe it's been 20 years since Will Smith saved the world and took the throne as the king of July 4th movies. Now a 20th anniversary edition of "Independence Day" is coming out May 3 on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital, ahead of the June 24 theatrical release of "Independence Day: Resurgence" (which, just FYI, does not star Will Smith). The 20th anniversary editions include the newly restored theatrical version, and the Blu-ray and Digital releases include more special features. Also, there's an "Attacker Edition" available, including a limited edition alien ship replica, a collectible booklet, newly restored extended and original cuts of the movie, and an all-new 30 minute documentary "Independence Day: A Legacy Surging Forward."

"The 5th Wave"
If you just can't get enough of the world blowing up, this post-apocalyptic attack movie starring Chloë Grace Moretz is out on DVD/Blu-ray on May 3. The release includes filmmaker and cast commentary, making-of featurettes, and a sneak peek excerpt from "The Last Star," the finale to Rick Yancey's bestselling series. Blu-ray and digital exclusives include deleted scenes, a gag reel, and three more featurettes.

"East Side Sushi"
Diana Elizabeth Torres stars in this charming underdog story about a Latina single mom determined to become a sushi chef despite being the "wrong" race and gender. The film was a festival favorite and currently has a 100 percent fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes; you can check it out on DVD and Digital on May 3. DVD bonus material includes the making-of featurette "Behind the Sushi," plus a "Behind the Music" featurette on the score, and two deleted scenes.

Check out the trailer:

"Joy"
Jennifer Lawrence earned her fourth Oscar nomination (she has one win under her belt) for her role in this biopic, and you can find out why when the David O. Russell film arrives on DVD/Blu-ray on May 3.

"The Choice"
This romantic drama -- starring Benjamin Walker and Teresa Palmer, and adapted from the Nicholas Sparks novel -- arrives on DVD/Blu-ray May 3. The home release includes commentary with director Ross Katz and actor Benjamin Walker; four behind-the-scenes featurettes; and deleted scenes.

'Captain America: Civil War' Opens to $200M Overseas, Certified 95 Percent Fresh

Posted:

They like it. They really like it!

"Captain America: Civil War" opens in the U.S. this Friday, May 6, but many lucky fans around the world got to see it over the weekend, giving it an estimated $200.2 million opening. According to Deadline, that's just behind the international debut of last year's "Avengers: Age Of Ultron," but it did set all-time opening weekend records in Brazil, Mexico, and the Philippines.

Disney estimated the "Civil War" opening at 5 percent below "Ultron" -- which went on to be the biggest superhero movie of all time around the world, so that's still not too shabby. Deadline added that "Civil War" was up 26 percent over both "Iron Man 3" and "The Avengers," and a whopping 157 percent over "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Collider added that the film has now shown to 63 percent of the foreign marketplace; it will open in Russia, China, Italy, and Argentina this Friday, coinciding with the domestic release. The film is expected to debut north of $175M in the U.S.

So yeah, Cap and Tony are making that paper. That was expected. It also looks like critics are sticking with their initial reactions of absolutely loving the movie.

Rotten Tomatoes has now certified "Civil War" as fresh; it's currently at 95 percent, after 92 reviews -- 87 fresh, 5 rotten -- with an average rating of 8/10. This is the longest Marvel movie to date at 2 hours, 26 minutes, but it doesn't sound like many viewers were bored. And if theaters play it a thousand times a day, as they probably will for months, then it should do quite well and probably break more records.

In case you need even more hype, here's Chadwick Boseman on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," along with a fresh clip of Black Panther taking on Bucky in "Civil War":

Dylan O'Brien's 'Very Serious' Injuries Worse Than Expected, 'Maze Runner' on Hold

Posted:

NY Special Screening of "Maze Runner"This is getting scary.

Dylan O'Brien was seriously injured while shooting "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" in mid-March. Director Wes Ball tweeted on March 19 that Dylan was expected to be back up and running to finish the film "after a few weeks." And co-star Giancarlo Esposito told E! News in early April that Dylan was "healing very well" and expected to recover enough to return to filming in mid-May.

But not so fast. On April 29, The Hollywood Reporter updated that production has been shut down indefinitely with insiders saying the actor's injuries are more severe than initially believed.

"His injuries are very serious, and he needs more time to recover," his publicist, Jennifer Allen, told THR. A statement from Fox added, "The resumption of principal photography on 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure' has been further delayed to allow Dylan O'Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries. We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible."

THR quoted a report from WorkSafeBC, describing Dylan's injuries as "concussion, facial fracture and lacerations." Sources told the site he was in a harness on top of a moving vehicle when he was unexpectedly pulled off that vehicle and ht by another one. Yikes.

The shooting schedule for this third film in the "Maze Runner" franchise is hardly the first priority, but a lot of jobs are tied to it, and there's no firm timeline for when it will resume. Sources told THR the cast and crew have been sent home, and a new start date depends not only on the actor's recovery but the ability to get the huge cast and crew back together again. As of now, it doesn't seem like the film will make its February 17, 2017, release date.

Keep your eyes peeled for updates, perhaps from Dylan O'Brien or Wes Ball on Twitter. Heal at your own pace, man!

'The Craft': 10 Things You (Probably) Didn't Know About One of Your Favorite '90s Movies

Posted:

Twenty years ago this week, four teenage girls dabbled in magic powers and unleashed forces more powerful than they could have imagined. We're not just talking about the plot of "The Craft" (released on May 3, 1996), but also the wave it launched of pretty-young-magical-gal stories on the big and small screens (from "Practical Magic" to "Charmed").

For all its influence and popularity, there's still much you may not know about "The Craft." Here are some of the secrets behind the beloved teen-witch cautionary tale.
1. Star Robin Tunney (center), who plays Sarah, wore a wig throughout the film, having recently shaved her head for her role in "Empire Records."

2. How did director Andrew Fleming do so well in understanding the mindset of his teen-girl heroines -- not only in "The Craft," but also in "Dick" and "Nancy Drew"? According to Fleming, "Dick" co-star Michelle Williams figured out the answer. "Michelle said that, despite my manly exterior, I'm actually a 15-year-old girl, and I do feel very giddy and school girlish quite a lot of the time."
3. Fairuza Balk (Nancy) is the only one of the four leads who was an actual practicing Wiccan, at least for a little while. At the time of the shoot, she was the owner of Panpipes Magickal Marketplace, an occult shop in Hollywood.

4. Bonnie in "The Craft" was the first major film role for Neve Campbell. Skeet Ulrich (Chris) and Campbell worked together for the first time here, a few months before they reunited in "Scream."
Hexenclub, Der / Craft, TheUSA 1996Regie: Andrew FlemingDarsteller: Robin Tunney, Rachel True, Fairuza Balk, Neve CampbellRollen: Sarah, Rochelle, Nancy, Bonnie5. Rachel True was nearly 30 when she played the teenage Rochelle. Classic Hollywood.

6. The beach ritual scene seemed to summon up some real-life creepy vibes. During filming, a horde of bats appeared and lingered (creepy). The waves extinguished the candles. And at the climactic moment, when Balk's Nancy cried out for the spirit to fill her, the power went out.
7. The knife fight between Tunney and Balk won the MTV Movie Award for Best Fight, beating such experienced big-screen fighters as Jackie Chan (in "Police Story 4") and Jim Brown (in "Mars Attacks").

8. The film cost a reported $15 million to produce. It earned back $56 million at the worldwide box office.

9. "The Craft" has been credited as the main influence on the growth of real-life teen interest in Wicca over the past 20 years.
10. A year ago, Sony announced plans for a remake, to be written and directed by horror filmmaker Leigh Janiak ("Honeymoon"). Among the original stars, Balk balked, proclaiming on Twitter that she doesn't approve of remakes in general.

NOT FOR SALE OR REDISTRIBUTION.Last year, on the May 2 anniversary of the battle of Hogwarts, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling began a tradition of apologizing for one character death per anniversary. She started in 2015 with Fred Weasley. Since today is May 2, 2016, Rowling returned to Twitter to share her second apology, along with reasons why she killed off this year's tribute: beloved teacher/Marauder/werewolf Remus "Moony" Lupin, played on screen by David Thewlis.

Baby Teddy! He's the son of Lupin and Tonks, who were both killed in the battle. Twitter is honoring the anniversary by trending #18YearsBattleOfHogwarts with some tributes that may make your eyes water.

Do you think they'll do a major worldwide event in 2018 for the 20th anniversary? We should probably feel bad for caring more about this than most real-life events, but ... nope.

Posted:

The Art Of Elysium Heaven GalaKit Harington's long national nightmare is over. Last night's episode of "Game of Thrones" finally settled, once and for all, whether Jon Snow is coming back or staying dead.

*Spoilers, obviously*

He came back. So, right after Season 6, Episode 2 aired on the East Coast, Entertainment Weekly posted some quotes from the actor, from an interview done in secret.

So what does Mr. Harington want to say to everyone, now that Jon Snow has been revived in "Home"?

"Sorry! I'd like to say sorry for lying to everyone. I'm glad that people were upset that he died. I think my biggest fear was that people were not going to care. Or it would just be, 'Fine, Jon Snow's dead.' But it seems like people had a, similar to the Red Wedding episode, kind of grief about it. Which means something I'm doing — or the show is doing — is right."

Oh, fans cared all right. This poor guy has been hounded for the past 10 months, with fans watching his hair, movements, and everything else for clues. But you have to imagine the actors who play Ser Barristan, Shireen, Stannis, Myrcella, etc., all wish there was this much outcry about their Season 5 deaths.

You can watch Kit apologize to fans via EW's video, but do you really blame him for fudging the truth a bit? What was he supposed to say, "Yes, I did really die, but I come back in Episode 2, via Melisandre as many fans suspected, so just wait a week after the premiere?" He had no choice, and "no comment" wasn't exactly an option when they put him on the Season 6 press tour.

Speaking of press, Kit is on the new EW cover with the headline "He's Alive!" with back-patting from EW and the producers about how they kept Jon's revival a secret, even though fans have been speculating all year that he's not staying dead because it never made sense that our ice king of "A Song of Ice and Fire" would really stay gone. It's not really that shocking, it's just awesome that it finally happened.

Also awesome: Everything else in "Home." Just as awesome, what we think will happen with Jon Snow's story next week.

'Game of Thrones' Recap: Jon Snow Comes 'Home,' 3 Others Die

Posted:

Kill the boy, and let the dragon man be born. Jon Snow returned in "Game of Thrones" Season 6, Episode 2, "Home." As many of us expected, after Melisandre showed up at The Wall in the Season 5 finale, Mel was involved in reviving him. She doesn't know it worked yet, though, and neither does anyone else. Except Ghost.

Yep, it's aliiiiiiiiiive. Jon's not quite as much of a Frankenstein's monster as Cersei's Mountain pet Robert Strong, but he's also maybe not quite a god. Then again... Azor Ahai?

Speaking of kill the boy, and being stabbed to death, Ramsay Bolton was in classic Ramsay form this week, stabbing his father Roose Bolton to death (he should've added "for the Watch" or "the Starks send their regards") and setting his dogs on both Walda Frey Bolton (we were rooting for you, girl!) and her newborn son.

Walda: "Please. Ramsay. He's your brother."
Ramsay: "I prefer being an only child."

Way harsh, Tai.

Also dead as of this episode: Balon Greyjoy, who was killed by his brother, newcomer Euron, in a return to the Iron Islands storyline. Also, it's a bad idea to walk on a rickety bridge in a storm, even if your scary bro doesn't randomly show up to kill you.

But what is dead may never die, if your name is Jon Snow, anyway. Or Daenerys Targaryen.

Bran Stark also returned in this jam-packed episode, to continue his training with the Three-Eyed Raven, now played by the we're-not-worthy legend Max von Sydow. We've been expecting a Ned Stark/Targaryen flashback this season, and that was teased in the Episode 3 promo, most likely shown via another Bran flashback.

*SPOILERS/SPECULATION ALERT*

This is the culmination/confirmation of the secret handshake hardcore "A Song of Ice and Fire" book fans have used with each other for a long time now, symbolized by R + L = J, with the takeaway being that Jon Snow is (probably) not the love child of the truly honorable Ned Stark and some woman he met during Robert Baratheon's rebellion; Jon is the love child of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Ned's sister, Lyanna Stark. ("Promise me, Ned.")
He's a dragon, baby. Yas, Hodor! That's why we had that Lyanna Stark scene this week.

"Home" was a thriller, with stellar developments on nearly every front, including Tyrion Lannister acting as Dragon Whisperer. So if the dragon has three heads, are they Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow/Stark/Targaryen, and Tyrion? Or maybe even Meera Reed?

Read on for a recap of the excellent Episode 2:

THE MAP: Tonight, the intro map shows us King's Landing, Pyke (Iron Islands), Winterfell, The Wall, Braavos, Meereen.

NORTH OF THE WALL
The first sound is cawing of a bird, as the Three-Eyed Raven and Bran appear to be in warg mode. Bran gets to stand, at least when he's having visions, and watches his own father and his uncle Benjen as children. Awwww. Can we please have a prequel series after "Game of Thrones"? LYANNA! Lyanna Stark comes in riding on a horse. Bran says his father never talked about Lyanna. HODOR! We see young Hodor, back when he was talking. He was there in Winterfell with Nan. Oh, sweet summer child. Bran has aged so much. He wants to stay in the past, but the Three-Eyed Raven brings him back. "You finally show me something I care about, then you drag me away." The raven thinks he was drowning, but Bran says he was home. And there's our episode title. Bran tells Hodor he saw him as a boy, when he could talk. What happened? Hodor. Hodor happened. Hodor takes Bran outside, where Meera is. It's not safe anywhere, she says. Bran tells her Hodor's real name is Willis, and that there's a war coming. Meera seems upset. About her bro, or more than that, since it's been a while? What does she do all day while he's warg training? There's another child of the forest who tells Meera that Bran needs her. He won't be here forever, and out there, he'll need her. This is why some fans think there may be more to Meera. Why else is she here?

THE WALL
When we first revisit this storyline, it's just in time for a showdown. Team Davos/Jon vs. Team Alliser/Watch. Davos takes out his sword, and prepares to fight Alliser behind the door. Ghost growls, he's ready for a fight, as Alliser's men bang down the door. But there's a noise. Edd connected with the wildlings and they bust down the door. FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! This is the benefit of having wildlings on your side, especially when they have a giant. Wun-Wun basically Hulks out, and the Night's Watch surrenders. Alliser gets saucy, though, and Olly puts up one last fight. Again, his hatred for wildlings is most understandable. Tormund prepares a fire to burn Jon Snow. They can try, anyway. Where is Melisandre as this goes on?

Toward the end of the episode, we see Melisandre (young again) with Davos. He asks if there's any magic that can help bring Jon back. There are some with this power, she says. How? She recalls the story of Thoros and Beric Dondarrion (from Season 3). Davos pushes for it. But she believes she was wrong about all of it. The Lord of Light -- she misread the flames. So Davos says f--k 'em, all the gods. He's asking the woman who showed him that miracles exist to try to save Jon. Has she ever tried? So she tries. She cuts his hair and puts it into the flames. That beautiful curly hair! She touches his wounds and says some words. It's like magic CPR but nothing seems to happen. She prays. "Please." Nothing. Pro tip: TRY FIRE. Burn the king. Add magic. Mel looks at Davos, sadly. They believe it did not work. But wait for it, kids. Don't you cry, Ghost. No one move. Steady on. HE'S BAAAAAACK! In the last second, he draws breath. Jon is alive.

So do you forgive Melisandre for pushing Stannis to burn Shireen? This doesn't quite make up for it. Poor Shireen deserved better.

KING'S LANDING
Some guy on the street tells a saucy story about Cersei, so enter Robert Strong (aka the Mountain reborn via Qyburn) to kick some arse. Apparently Tommen ordered the guards to keep Cersei where she is (for her own protection, supposedly) so she can't go to Myrcella's funeral. Whose idea was it really then? Ser Pounce? We see Tommen and Jaime look at Myrcella's dead body. Does Tommen blame Cersei? Tommen knows he's weak. When the Faith Militant took Cersei and Margaery, what did he do? "The king is supposed to be the protector of the realm." He couldn't protect his wife or his mother. What good is he? Fair question. The High Sparrow comes in, and someone should just kill him right there. Jaime? You've killed more and less than this guy. Jaime gets sassy with the Sparrow, asking about his own sins. Kingslayer and more. "What atonement do I deserve?" Fair point. Maybe the High Sparrow just doesn't want to see Jaime naked. They are very selective about who they "shame." There's no real answer, though, other than for the Faith Militant to show up when Jaime makes a move. The Faith Militant still seem to be in charge.

Tommen visits his mother in her new version of a cell, in the Red Keep. Tommen apologizes for keeping her there. "I didn't want to lose you again." Cersei says she's glad to see Tommen but her back is to him for part of the talk. Tommen knows he should've executed all of them before letting them do that to her "as you would have for me. You raised me to be strong. And I wasn't. But I want to be. Help me." Oh, are you playing right into what she wants. Then again, she knows the prophecy about all of her children dying. Why not try to keep this one safe?

MEEREEN
Tyrion has a mini council meeting with Varys, Missandei, and Grey Worm. Varys says, outside of Meereen, the whole of Slaver's Bay has returned to the slavers. Missandei says the two other dragons haven't touched any food since Dany left. (SAD FACE) Tyrion says dragons do not do well in captivity. (In the book, he is very knowledgeable about dragons, so it's good to see that's still the case here.) He shares some history about the dragons of Westeros. "They must be unchained or they'll waste away." He says dragons are intelligent, with affection for their friends. "I am their friend." Uh oh. As Varys asks, "do they know that?" So Tyrion makes a plan to give them their supper. Any book readers worried about a Quentyn Martell situation? He descends into the dungeon, and the two dragons approach. What's the plan here, T? The poor dragons can barely get any fire out, though. They are dying. TEARS. Tyrion tells them he is friends with their mother. Dany never should've locked up these two. They never even did anything. "I'm here to help. Don't eat the help." He tells the dragons a story about wanting a dragon for his nameday. It didn't have to be a big dragon, "it could be little, like me." He keeps talking as he approaches Viserion and Rhaegal, to free them. He was right about dragons being smart. The second one angles the lock toward Tyrion, knowing what it means.

Tyrion tells Varys, on his way out: "Next time I have an idea like that, punch me in the face." But it was a good idea! Is Tyrion the third head of the dragon, if there is an eventual flight to Westeros to fight the White Walkers?

ARYA IN BRAAVOS
And we're back to blind Arya fighting that waif girl from the House of Black and White. Then Jaqen H'ghar shows up. Who are you? If a girl says her name, she can sleep in a bed and have food and have her eyes back. "A girl has no name." She's committing to this. Would she, if she knew about Sansa, Bran, and (maybe) Rickon? Blind Arya follows Jaqen, since what she said seemed to pass the test. "A girl is not a beggar anymore."

WINTERFELL
Roose is pissed at Ramsay for losing Sansa and company, but since he has icewater in his veins, he never raises his voice. Ramsay believes Sansa will go north to Castle Black. With a small force, they could head to the Wall and kill Jon Snow. Roose is appalled by that idea (TOO LATE) and says they'd unite the North against them. Hopefully that's true. Ramsay says they wouldn't need everyone in the North. There are some houses on their side, like the Karstarks. Roose tears him a new one for his attitude, in his own way, saying if Ramsay acts like a mad dog he'll be treated like a mad dog. BREAKING NEWS: Walda Frey Bolton gave birth to a boy. Ramsay, you have competition. "You'll always be my first born," Roose says, which is not the same as "you are my heir." On that note, STABBED! Ramsay would fit right in on the Night's Watch.

Ramsay tells the maester to send word to all the houses that Roose is dead, poisoned by their enemies. So now it's Lord Ramsay Bolton. "Send for Lady Bolton and the baby." Sounds like they are next in line to be killed. Kill him first, Walda! But no. Ramsay takes Walda and the baby into a cell. Like Reek. Walda begs him. She'll go back to the Riverlands. Please. "He's your brother." "I prefer being an only child." COLD! He has his dogs attack them. Ooh, that's brutal. The mad dog attacks.

TEAM SANSA
Brienne tells Sansa about seeing Arya. Sansa regrets not just going with Brienne when she had the chance. Truth. Theon says they shouldn't be lighting fires, it's not safe. Sansa says they'll be safe at Castle Black. So Ramsay was right about where they are headed. Theon is worried about what happens when he tells the truth, about Winterfell, the Miller boys, etc. She says he can take the black and he'll be forgiven, but he doesn't want to be forgiven. She hugs him. He's not coming with them. He's going home, to the Iron Islands. That's kind of taking the easy way out, though, no? He should face Jon and the others and accept punishment.

IRON ISLANDS
Meanwhile, in the Iron Islands, Yara talks to her father Balon about attacking land. She won't apologize for trying to save Theon. Balon tells her to shut her mouth and obey, since he still rules the Iron Islands. Maybe he'll make another heir. But no! Because he walks across a weak bridge in a storm and dies. Not quite as he did in the book, since -- first -- he comes across his brother Euron. This is a surprise reunion, at night, in the rain, on a rickety bridge. Euron/Crow's Eye had been gone a long time. But what is dead may never die. "I don't mock the drowned god. I am the drowned god." He's also the storm. The first storm and the last. "You're in my way." They fight, and Balon ends up in the sea.

Balon is dead. What is dead may never die, but in this case he is dead, and now there's another power struggle coming for who will rule Pyke and the Iron Islands. Yara says she's going to find out who did this to her father. The other brother, priest Aeron, says she is not yet the ruler, she has not been chosen by the kingsmoot, despite that being her father's wishes. Perhaps she'll be the first woman to rule the Ironborn and perhaps not. Would anyone choose Theon?

NEXT
Episode 3, "Oathbreaker," was written by showrunners David Benioff & D. B. Weiss and the synopsis is "Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) meets her future. Bran meets the past. Tommen confronts the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce). Arya (Maisie Williams) trains to be No One. Varys (Conleth Hill) finds an answer. Ramsay gets a gift." That "Bran meets the past" note gives off strong Tower of Joy flashback/Jon Snow heritage vibes and that is young-ish Ned Stark in the promo. But, if so, will Meera be part of that storyline, too? No? Not every theory has to pan out, just checking.
