'Scandal' Alum Dan Bucatinsky Joins 'Gilmore Girls' Revival Posted: The cast of the "Gilmore Girls" revival keeps growing, with actor Dan Bucatinsky joining the series in an undisclosed role. Warner Bros. declined to comment on Bucatinsky's casting, and it certainly does seem mysterious on the surface, since he's the latest in a growing list of actors joining the revival who did not appear on the original show. His addition is more head-scratching than, say, Sutton Foster's or Mae Whitman's, since both of those actresses have strong connections to "Gilmore" heavyweights. (Foster worked with "Gilmore" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino on "Bunheads," while Whitman starred alongside Graham on "Parenthood.") But Bucatinsky is actually more linked to the "Gilmore" universe than meets the eye, since many alums of the show have gone on to appear in Shondaland properties, including Bucatinsky's former home, "Scandal." Liza Weil (Paris), Keiko Agena (Lane), and Gregg Henry (Logan's loathsome dad, Mitchum Huntsberger) have all starred on the ABC nighttime soap, and it's likely that Bucatinsky's relationship with any or all members of that trio -- who are all returning for more "Gilmore" -- played some part in getting the actor involved in the revival. Whatever the role, we can't wait for more "Gilmore," period. The four-part set of new episodes is set to debut on Netflix sometime later this year. Jimmy Kimmel to Guest-Host 'Live' With Kelly Ripa After Michael Strahan Exit Posted: ABC has already settled on the first guest host to fill in for the departing Michael Strahan on "Live! With Kelly and Michael": Jimmy Kimmel. Kimmel, who also hosts an eponymous show with "Live" in its title for the network, will make the switch from nighttime to daytime to sit alongside Kelly Ripa, who will be searching for a new permanent co-host for the talk show. Kimmel's one-off stint on "Live!" will take place on Monday, May 16. Strahan, who's leaving "Live!" to head to fellow ABC morning show "Good Morning America" full-time, was originally supposed to depart the program in September. But after some major behind-the-scenes drama with Ripa -- the hostess didn't show up for work for two days, reportedly over feeling disrespected that she wasn't told about Strahan's exit ahead of time -- it seems ABC is intent on cutting down on the awkwardness, and the network accelerated Strahan's departure date to Friday, May 13. (The official reasoning was that the network wanted to give Ripa and "Live!" ample time to find a replacement.) Kimmel, who hosts "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in Los Angeles, will be in New York City -- where "Live! With Kelly and Michael" shoots -- the week of the 16th for the annual upfront presentations, where networks woo advertisers and station executives. It's unclear who will take his place the day after his "Live!" appearance, though perhaps another synergistic pick from ABC is in the works. Stay tuned. Read Patton Oswalt's Touching Tribute to His Late Wife, Michelle McNamara Posted: After sharing several touching tributes from others about his late wife, comedian Patton Oswalt has penned his own heartfelt remembrance of his spouse, Michelle McNamara. In an essay for Time, Oswalt wrote of McNamara's passion for true crime writing, which she posted about regularly on her blog, True Crime Diary. That work led to a job writing for Los Angeles Magazine, and then interest from publisher Harper Collins, for whom McNamara was working on a book when she suddenly passed away on April 21. But as Oswalt explained in Time, that wasn't all there was to McNamara. In addition to a leading a life full of important work and interacting with interesting people, she made a lasting impact on countless friends and family who mourn her passing. "Her family is devastated but can't help remember all of the times she made them laugh or comforted them, and they smile and laugh themselves," Oswalt wrote. "She hasn't left a void. She's left a blast crater." Oswalt also recalled his 7-year-old daughter Alice's wise-beyond-her-years words in reference to her late mother, with the girl telling her father, "When your mom dies you're the best memory of her. Everything you do and say is a memory of her." "That's the kind of person Michelle created and helped shape," Oswalt wrote. "That was Michelle. That is Michelle." Kit Harington Fooled His 'Game of Thrones' Castmates, Too Posted: After "Game of Thrones" finally revealed the true fate of Jon Snow during Sunday night's episode (SPOILER ALERT for anyone living under an internet-free rock: He was brought back to life), actor Kit Harington has been making amends for misleading fans about his character's big reveal. Next stop on the actor's apology tour: Setting things right with the "GOT" cast and crew, who the actor said he had fooled, too. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Harington explained the top-secret process by which showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss colluded with him to conceal Jon Snow's resurrection plotline, which involved strategizing before the beginning of season five, way back in the summer of 2014. As Harrington told EW, he initially thought keeping such a big secret would be "a fun game," but quickly realized that deceiving so many people wasn't all it was cracked up to be. " ... I had to lie to a lot of close friends and cast members and crew," Harington told the magazine. "The longer it went, the more I felt like I was betraying them." One of the people hoodwinked by Harington's lies was fellow castmember Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark. The actor revealed that Turner, thinking she would never see Harington on the "Thrones" set again, wrote him "a really long letter about how much she loved working with me." Sounds like Harington might want to write Turner a letter of his own -- filled with lots of "I'm Sorry"s. For more intel from Harington and other "GOT" insiders about the Jon Snow resurrection plot, check out the new issue of Entertainment Weekly when it hits stands on Friday. Even Melissa McCarthy Thought the 'Ghostbusters' Trailer Was 'Very Confusing' Posted: The "Ghostbusters" reboot trailer confused a lot of people -- including one of its stars, Melissa McCarthy. The trailer (which is also the most disliked trailer in YouTube history) made fans wonder if the movie was a reboot or a sequel, since the video begins with the phrase "30 years ago." In a radio interview, McCarthy cleared up that opening sequence. "It's a reboot. I know, it's weird that they said the '30 years ago' because in this movie, the first one didn't happen. It's that great story, but told totally differently," the actress explained. So, not a sequel, folks! The new "Ghostbusters" -- which also stars Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones -- does not exist in the same universe as the 1984 original. McCarthy tried to point out the ambiguity of that opening, but The Powers That Be shut her down. "Believe me, the question was asked," she said. "I was like, 'I think that's very confusing,' but then everyone said, 'We don't care what you think.'" Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell Are Mothers Gone Wild in 'Bad Moms' Trailer Posted: Moms just wanna have fun, too. The first red-band trailer for "Bad Moms" shows what happens when a trio of mothers decides to let their hair down, hold a shot of whiskey up, and throw the gluten-free, nut-free, sugar-free cookies out the window. Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn star as stressed-out, under-appreciated moms who decide to stop trying to be so perfect all the time. This puts them in direct conflict with the put-together, uptight types at their school's PTA, like Christina Applegate, who is determined to rule over the bake sale.Everybody in the cast is so likable, and watching Kunis and Bell deploy their talents at physical comedy in the same film is a dream. There's some raunchy humor, too, involving some body parts getting folded. NSFW! Annie Mumolo and Jada Pinkett Smith also star. "Bad Moms" opens in theaters July 29. Want more stuff like this? 19 Times Captain America Was the Best Part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Posted: Steve Rogers went from 90-pound asthmatic to Avenger in less than three movies. Not bad for just a "kid from Brooklyn." He survived being a "Capsicle," Loki's alien army, and the Winter Soldier. There's nothing he can't do because super soldier serum. As the ass-kicking patriot gears up to battle Iron Man in "Civil War," here are all the times Captain America was our favorite part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
