Posted: 03 Jun 2015 11:00 PM PDT

Here are a bunch of little bites to satisfy your hunger for movie culture:   In anticipation of Inside Out, here is a supercut of the non-literal emotions found in Pixar movies (via Devour):   Here's an animated depiction of how Avengers: Age of Ultron should have ended, with Superman:   It's getting hot out there, so keep some cold ones in this cool Han Solo in carbonite mini fridge (via That's Nerdalicious!):   Now the Jurassic World trailer has been redone with hot dogs. Okay (via Devour).   Now someone has mashed up Mad Max: Fury Road with My Little Pony. The Geek Beat: 'Big Trouble' and 'Groot' Comics, 'Jurassic World' and More to Look For In June

Posted: 03 Jun 2015 09:30 PM PDT

With Marvel's Age of Ultron now on its way to becoming ancient history and Mad Max's Fury Road disappearing in the rearview mirror, some of this year's most-anticipated films for aficionados of geeky cinema are already behind us. Fortunately there's still a lot to look forward to this year – on and off the screen. Here are 10 things to look for this month:   1. Big Trouble in Little China, Vol. 1 The weirdly wonderful blend of '80s action, supernatural fantasy, and classic kung-fu cinema in John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China made the 1986 film an eminently quotable cult classic, but it took almost 30 years for the story of good ol' Jack Burton and the Pork Chop Express to receive another chapter. A collaboration...

New 'Star Wars' Rumors: Han Solo and Boba Fett Rival Movie? An Entire Obi-Wan Trilogy?

Posted: 03 Jun 2015 08:30 PM PDT

June the third be with you? With all the Star Wars rumors dropping today, you'd think we were back on May 4, when the accepted "Star Wars Day" brought official glimpses at The Force Awakens characters and official updates on the second Star Wars Anthology movie, among other things. The key there is those were official bits and today's are not. So, take them with a grain of salt off your Mos Eisley margarita.   Is there a new director attached to that second Star Wars Anthology movie yet? With the departure of Josh Trank, for whatever the reasons, a job in the Star Wars franchise opened up. So far no official name has signed on to the spin-off installment, which we know is a Boba Fett origin story of some kind, but the guys at Schmoes Know hear that it...

'Aquaman' Officially Lands 'Furious 7' Director James Wan

Posted: 03 Jun 2015 08:02 PM PDT

UPDATE 6/3/15: The negotiations are over and it is now official: James Wan will direct Aquaman starring Jason Momoa for a 2018 release date.   Previously 4/10/15: Last October Furious 7 director James Wan signed a first-look deal with New Line Cinema (owned by Warner Bros.), giving the studio the first crack at new projects Wan's company would be developing. When that announcement was made, though, it included a particularly noteworthy quote from studio head Toby Emmerich:  “James will make an important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family. He’s the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of one.” At the time, we...

The '90s Comeback Continues With a 'Sister Act' Remake

Posted: 03 Jun 2015 07:00 PM PDT

A few years ago remaking movies from the '80s was all of the rage. And while that trend is certainly going to continue for the foreseeable future (the '80s had a lot of great movies, after all), we're already starting to edge into '90s nostalgia territory. Surprisingly one of the movies leading that decade's remake charge is none other than the 1992 Whoopi Goldberg classic Sister Act. Yes, the movie where Whoopi Goldberg pretends to be a nun so that she can hide from the mob is getting a remake. Disney is producing the new version, which will be written by the duo of Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah (Legally Blonde) and produced by Allison Shearmur (Cinderella). Plot details aren't known at this point, nor is the level of Whoopi Goldberg's...

Fantastic '99 Homes' Trailer Fights For The Soul of America

Posted: 03 Jun 2015 05:30 PM PDT

There have already been a handful of great movies about the recent economic turmoil caused in America (and around the world) by the collapse of the real estate market, however movies like Margin Call and Inside Job focus on the institutionalized side of things. The new drama 99 Homes heads away from Wall Street and right into middle America and judging by the first trailer, it's going to be a must-see when it hits theaters on September 25, 2015. Directed by Ramin Bahrani (At Any Price), 99 Homes stars Andrew Garfield as a father whose family is evicted from their home by a greedy real estate broker played by Michael Shannon. Things are looking grim for them until one day Garfield gets a job offer from Shannon. But is working for the man worth the emotional cost? That...

Michael Bay Dives Into Time Travel After Snapping Up New Sci-Fi Book

Posted: 03 Jun 2015 03:26 PM PDT

Michael Bay has taken us to outer space, given us a hidden world filled with clones, and slammed a bunch of robots together, but his most sci-fi-y movie may still be yet to come. According to Publishers Weekly and author Wesley Chu, Paramount has optioned his new book specifically for Bay to direct and for Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers) to produce.  It's called Time Salvager and it sounds loosely like a mash-up of Looper and Wall-E. Time Salvager takes place in a future where mankind has abandoned the toxic wasteland of Earth and has taken to colonizing the stars. This expansion is only possible by using time travel to go back to Earth's past and steal certain resources without altering the timeline. The people who do this are called Chronmen and the story...

Watch: Channing Tatum Goes Undercover At 'Magic Mike XXL' Screening To Strip For Fans

Posted: 03 Jun 2015 01:30 PM PDT

Early promo screenings for movies often start with a rep from the studio taking the stage to do a quick little intro, warn you about using your cell phones, and ask you to give some feedback at the end. That's pretty much what happened at a recent screening of Magic Mike XXL, though you can add "Channing Tatum takes off disguise, strips in front of audience, blows everyone's mind" to that list. The whole thing was an elaborate set-up to launch a Magic Mike XXL charity drive through the movie-friendly service Omaze, which is now offering fans the chance to win a trip to the movie's Hollywood premiere and after party alongside Tatum. We're guessing he won't be in old man make-up at that one, and he's probably not going to give you a personal lap...
