'The Walking Dead' May Be Coming to IMAX Theaters Soon Posted: Following a successful theatrical run of episodes of HBO series "Game of Thrones," IMAX has its sights set on another successful TV show: "The Walking Dead." Greg Foster, senior executive vice president and CEO of IMAX Entertainment, revealed during a recent presentation to investors that the company was interested in expanding its offerings of television episodes on the big screen. "We'll be looking for more content like 'Game of Thrones,'" Foster told investors. "A high bar to kind of strive for would be 'The Walking Dead,' and we have had conversations with our pals at the AMC network about that." Earlier this year, IMAX screened the final two episodes of "Game of Thrones"'s fourth season, along with a sneak preview of season five that was created exclusively for the event. The stunt was apparently a success, leading the company to search for other properties interested in making the jump from the small to the big screen. While Foster told investors that the "Walking Dead" partnership was nowhere near a done deal, the exec said IMAX was very interested in making it happen. "[W]e're looking for more epic content that's in line with the IMAX experience," Foster said. (And how epic would Rick's disgusting zombie kill from the season five finale look on an IMAX screen?) Stay tuned to see if AMC bites. [via: The Hollywood Reporter] Photo credit: Gene Page/AMC This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

The American Hogwarts Will Be Part of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' Posted: America has been mostly absent from "Harry Potter" lore, lurking in the background of the Potterverse without much definition since the British series's debut. But now, the U.S. is taking center stage in the upcoming spinoff flick, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," and with it comes news that we're finally going to find out about Hogwarts's American counterpart. That word comes straight from "Potter" mastermind and "Beasts" screenwriter J.K. Rowling, who took to Twitter to answer fans' queries about the place where Stateside witches and wizards get their magical schooling. And while Rowling didn't reveal much, the few hints she dropped should tantalize moviegoers. "Fantastic Beasts" centers around magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and takes place in New York City many decades before the events of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." When one fan asked if that meant that Scamander would be attending the U.S. version of Hogwarts in NYC, Rowling said no -- but offered a couple other hints about the film's plot. "(H)e's going to meet people who were educated at [name] in [not New York]," Rowling wrote. When pressed by another fan about whether that school had Native American origins, Rowling coyly confirmed that yes, it will -- though its name would not be a Native American one. That's not much to parse, but let's try anyway. First, we know that the flick will focus on Scamander as a young man (hence Redmayne's casting), and perhaps will involve him meeting his future wife, Porpentina. Industry reports suggest that the flick is casting the roles of sisters Queenie and Tina (short for Porpentina, perhaps?), so maybe the sisters are the people that Scamander meets who've been educated at Hogwarts: American Edition? As for the hints about Native American influence, that's bit more difficult to pin down, since tribes have settlements throughout the country, in places as spread out as the Southwest and upstate New York. Perhaps that latter location makes the most sense for "Fantastic Beasts," since it offers proximity to New York City. The lilywhite casting so far -- which includes potential leads such as Dakota Fanning and Kate Upton -- suggests that none of the main characters will be of Native descent, though there are still reportedly two male roles that need to be filled. Stay tuned to see how this information factors into the finished film. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is due in theaters on November 18, 2016. [via: J.K. This Chris Pratt Interview From 2003 Proves Fame Hasn't Changed Him Posted: Sweet and innocent 2003 Chris Pratt. He had only three IMDB credits to his name, compared to the 38 he has now! Chiwetel Ejiofor May Play 'Doctor Strange' Foe Baron Mordo Posted: Following Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton, another critically-acclaimed actor may also be suiting up for "Doctor Strange": Chiwetel Ejiofor. Deadline reports that the Oscar nominee may be playing the Doctor's nemesis, Baron Mordo, in the upcoming Marvel flick. But while Mordo is indeed a villain in the comics, the movie may be changing up his backstory a bit. According to Deadline, Ejiofor's Mordo won't "be necessarily a completely villainous character. Rather, he's an amalgamation of characters culled from 'Doctor Strange''s mythology." That's similar to the switch pulled on Swinton's character, The Ancient One, who was a Tibetan male in the "Doctor Strange" comics and is now being portrayed by the ethereal British actress. The comic storyline says that both Mordo and the titular doctor -- played by Benedict Cumberbatch -- were students of The Ancient One. Mordo later tries to kill his former mentor; it remains to be seen whether that will still happen in the movie. "Doctor Strange" is due in theaters on November 4, 2016. 'Zootopia' Teaser Trailer Is Too Cute Fur Words Posted: The world is truly an animal kingdom in "Zootopia," Disney Animation's next big project. The studio released the first teaser trailer for the movie, which features anthropomorphic creatures - a term that narrator Jason Bateman very cleverly explains. They walk, they talk, they wear clothes. Human beings don't exist. There's not much else to glean from the trailer, but it sets up and defines the parameters of its animated world in succinct, somewhat corny, but totally cute fashion."Zootopia" is a buddy comedy about a con artist fox (Bateman) who is framed for a crime he didn't commit. He teams up with a by-the-book bunny cop (Ginnifer Goodwin) to solve the case and clear his name. It has the potential to be another hit for Disney Animation, which has been killing it in the last couple of years with "Frozen" and "Big Hero 6." "Zootopia" opens in theaters March 16. Who Are You Gonna Call? Chris Hemsworth Joins 'Ghostbusters' Posted: "You've reached the Ghostbusters. Thor speaking." The answer to the question "Who ya gonna call?" is now Chris Hemsworth. The actor has signed onto Paul Feig's all-female "Ghostbusters" reboot as the agency's receptionist. The director announced the news on Twitter: Hemsworth will appear alongside new ghostbusters Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Variety reports that Hemsworth initially passed on the role because it was too small. The script was reworked to beef up the part, after which the "Thor" and "Avengers" star came on board. The Australian actor has made a career out of playing action heroes, but seems to be turning toward comedy. His March hosting gig on "Saturday Night Live" was well-received, and he next appears in July's "Vacation" reboot. Filming on the new "Ghostbusters" begins later this summer, with the movie due in theaters July 22, 2016. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. 19 Reasons Tyrion Lannister Is the Best Part of 'Game of Thrones' Posted: Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) may be a silver-tongued cad with a taste for wine and ladies, but the only dwarf in Westeros (seriously, is there not a second living dwarf in all the land?!) is pretty much at the top of every "Game of Thrones" fan's list of favorite characters. Whether it's through his actions (he treated you right, Sansa!) or his words (ya burnt, everyone!), Tyrion has secured a place in our hearts forever. So, while we pray to The Seven (and George R.R. Martin) to spare his life for seasons to come, let's take a look at Tyrion Lannister's best quotes, quips, memes, and more. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Iconic Movie Villain Christopher Lee Dies at 93 Posted: Christopher Lee, the prolific actor who terrified audiences as Dracula, as the Frankenstein monster, and as Saruman in "Lord of the Rings," died Sunday at the age of 93. The Guardian reported that Lee passed away after being admitted to a London hospital for respiratory problems and heart failure. His wife of over 50 years, Gitte Kroencke, released the news days later in order to inform family members first. Lee was born May 27, 1922. As a young man, he served in the Royal Air Force as an intelligence officer during World War II. After the war, he turned to acting on the advice of his cousin (the Italian ambassador to Britain). For years, Lee had bit roles in dozens of films by legendary directors like Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. and John Huston. He got his big break in 1957 when he played the monster in "The Curse of Frankenstein." That led to the titular role in 1958's "Dracula." Lee continued to star as the vampire in several more movies, and became a horror movie fixture.Lee moved away from the genre in the '70s, but was still a favorite to play villains. His step-cousin, Ian Fleming, was the author of the James Bond books, and wanted Lee to play Dr. No (alas, Joseph Wiseman had already been cast). Instead, Lee was tapped as Francisco Scaramanga in "The Man With the Golden Gun." In the 2000s, Lee experienced a career renaissance, again as a villain - as evil wizard Saruman in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and as the nefarious Sith lord Count Dooku in the "Star Wars" prequels. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2009 in recognition of his long, impressive career. All told, Lee racked up some 275 credits on IMDB. In addition to his acting work, Lee also released several heavy metal albums. His 2013 Christmas single "Jingle Hell" entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 22, making him the oldest living artist ever to enter the charts. "At my age, the most important thing for me is to keep active by doing things that I truly enjoy," he said of his music last year. "I do not know how long I am going to be around, so every day is a celebration and I want to share it with my fans." Lee is survived by his wife, the Danish model/painter Birgit "Gitte" Kroencke, whom he married in 1961, and their daughter, Christina. Best of Late Night TV: Bryce Dallas Howard Cries on Command and Chris Pratt Runs In Heels Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. All that matters to us right now is "Jurassic World," so you can imagine our joy when Chris Pratt stopped by "The Late Late Show" and promptly ran around in a bright red pair of heels. Apparently, he was heel-running to prove he could do just as good a job as Bryce Dallas Howard, which -- uhm -- he definitely can't. The entire world cannot even with what's happening on "Game of Thrones" lately, and Kit Harrington stopped by "Jimmy Kimmel Live" to talk about filming a recent battle scene with the White Walkers (SPOILER ALERT!). Jimmy had some pretty solid advice: John Snow should just join the walkers because of their "beautiful blue eyes." You know nothing, Jimmy Kimmel. Speaking of "Jurassic World," did you know Bryce Dallas Howard can cry on command? Because she was weeping over on the set of "Conan" thanks to the host musing on Home Depot. This is absolutely a must-watch, and definitely a case of saving the best clip for last. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
