Danielle Brooks & Lea DeLaria on 'OITNB' Season 3: 'Bombs Are Dropped' Posted: Life in lockup is about to test the faith of many of your favorite "Orange Is the New Black" inmates, including the increasingly less self-defeating Taystee and the allegiance-shifting Big Boo. The actresses behind those two fan favorite characters -- Danielle Brooks and Lea DeLaria, respectively -- admit they've been sworn to secrecy about how the third season of the Netflix sensation will shake down, but they risked a stint in showbiz solitary to offer some tantalizing clues about what's in store for Taystee and Big Boo, along with revealing their own off-screen experiences with prison life and prison-themed entertainment. On what's ahead for their characters: Danielle Brooks: I feel like Season 3 for Taystee is another whirlwind of change. She keeps growing every season, and she dealt a lot with Vee last season. And this season, we're figuring out how she's dealing with Vee being there -- or not being there -- and you're definitely going to see her going through a transformation, without a doubt. And one that really threw me off! I kept going to the writers over and over, like, "Is this really what we're doing?" And they're like, "Yeah." I'm like, "Are you sure this is the choice you want?" So it's going to be exciting to see the evolution of her, because she is a child of the system, so she is constantly growing in prison. She's becoming a woman in prison. So we get to see what that's going to be. Lea DeLaria: God, that's such an actor answer. You're such an actor, and I'm a standup comic. I don't even think of any of that. Whoa...I'm like, "Big Boo, Season 3. She'll be funny." Brooks: Your Season 3 is actually pretty dope. There's so many times that I've watched you and another actor -- I'm not going to talk about that -- who worked closely together, and I'm just like, sneaking behind the chair like watching them work. DeLaria: I do think that they've really, really gotten into an interesting place with Boo, and even more so. I have to say, like Dani, what I was having to do in season two, I was like, "Really? You want me to turn on Red? Really? You want Boo to do that? And is this right?" And it's really interesting how that helped me explore who she was and the kind of loner existence that she had lived. So yeah, I think that they're continuing to push that character and push the boundaries, really explore who she is as an individual in Season 3, def. On what they feel sets the new season apart: DeLaria: What I liked particularly about this season is that I've always felt that there are no sacred cows on our show, that we're constantly pushing the envelope. We really go for it this season, I feel like. And I've got to give it up to Jenji [Kohan, the series' creator] on that. Jenji's always trying to say something with everything that she does. And she's definitely making a statement about women, about the disenfranchised, about the prison system. All that's going to continue and get deeper, maybe even a little darker. Brooks: Yeah. I think you worded that perfectly. I mean, if I was to add anything to it, I would say, after speaking to Jenji in the top of Season 3 and asking her like, trying to pick her brain about what this is going to be, she just kept saying "This season's about faith. It's about faith." DeLaria: Really? Brooks: Yeah. And I was like, "Really? I don't think so." But as the season started to reveal itself to me, it did start to make sense on why she chose that theme. And especially for a lot of characters when you're always in survival mode, you do sort of have to reach out to some sort of faith, and I think that's why they played on the theme this year of the candles for the promo key art. So yeah, I think that's what it's about Season 3. On the new inmate Stella Carlin, played by Australian actress and model Ruby Rose, who stirs things up between Piper and the re-incarcerated Alex: DeLaria: I don't think we can say anything. Brooks: All I can say is: bombs are dropped. DeLaria: That was so good! What she said. Please, somebody attribute it to me. On what they hear from actual inmates: Brooks: I love everything about it because you know with social media, it's so easy to reach out to your fans. But to actually get a handwritten letter from someone, that is so dope. But yeah, I do have a friend that is incarcerated, and I've written to him recently in hopes of receiving something back. But I'm waiting for that. DeLaria: Although we're not getting the fan mail, I have people stop me on the street who are involved with the prison system, and say that we're getting it right -- that we're getting it absolutely right. I figured we got it right when the Women's Prison Association started following us on Twitter, right? I mean, that's when I went, we must be doing it right. On their own experiences behind bars: Brooks: None. Thank the Lord. DeLaria: I've been arrested in protests, you know, the standard kind of American that's not really jail. That's not really prison. That's not really jail. You're out in minutes. There's always a group of you. You sing "Kumbaya"... When I was younger, in summer camp took us to a DJJ -- a Detention Juvenile Justice system -- to scare us straight, the young kids straight. But mine was not as intense as the ones on TV. The girls that I was with, these 13, 14-year-old girls were so dramatic. They handcuffed a few of us, and they're passing out. It's like, "I can't breathe!" It was really dramatic. But we all turned out pretty good. But that's the only experience I've had actually walking into one... A lot of the girls have gone to prison, in terms of acting [research]. Brooks: Taylor Schilling has. DeLaria: Kate [Mulgrew] has, I know. And my research was watching "Lockup." I'm just not that kind of actor who's going to go to a prison and find my spine. [Points thumb at Brooks] She's Miss Juilliard. Brooks: I would have loved it. A) the process happened so quickly, that I found out maybe a week or a few days before I had actually started shooting. So I kind of just jumped right into it. There was no time to actually do that kind of research. But like Lea said, I watched so much "Lockup" and "Scared Straight." And I watched it before getting the job -- me and my dad, strangely enough, but my dad works third shift, so when I would come home from college, we would stay up really late and watch prison shows. That was our thing. So strange, but we did. I guess we're both intrigued with human nature and why we do things in this world that is so foreign to us. So I think I did my research before getting the part. It was done. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Bond Gets a Lot of Action in First 'Spectre' TV Spot Posted: Lights, camera, and action - lots and lots of action. And a second helping, just to be safe. The first TV spot for the new James Bond movie, "Spectre," aired during last night's NBA finals game, and dazzled us with quite a bit of new footage not seen in the first teaser trailer. Most of it was heavy on the action - lots of explosions, car chases, exploding cars in chases, James Bond (Daniel Craig) punching people, people punching Bond. There are also brief glimpses of other characters, including Eve Moneypenny (Naomie Harris); Q (Ben Whishaw); Lea Seydoux and Monica Bellucci as new Bond girls; and a shadowy Christoph Waltz as the big bad. The TV spot doesn't explain much more in the way of the plot, other than it centers on some dark mystery from 007's past. As Moneypenny notes, "You've got a secret, something you can't tell anyone because you don't trust anyone." "Spectre" opens in theaters November 20. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. Live Version of 'Lip Sync Battle' Is Coming Soon to Central Park Posted: "Lip Sync Battle" is going live! Spike's breakout hit show is putting on a one-off, double-header live performance at SummerStage in New York's Central Park, according to Vulture. It's meant to be "a big thank-you to our fans," said executive producer Casey Patterson. "Lip Sync Battle" has taken TV and the Internet by storm this spring, every week producing viral videos of celebs locked in lip-synching showdowns. This special SummerStage performance will likely include four celebrities in two battles, mouthing two songs each. The celebs in question are currently undetermined, but hosts LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen will be on hand. "We're very interested in seeing [the format] live and seeing what it would look like in a festival model," Patteron explained. "This is a great way for us to test the waters for that. I think it's really going to soar in this environment." For those "LSB" fans unable to get to New York, alas, the performance will not be streamed. However, the show is talking to "Good Morning America" about a special segment to broadcast that same day, so everyone across the country could get at least a sneak peek. "Lip Sync Battle" is in preproduction for season 2. The remaining season 1 episodes begin airing July 9. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
The 10 Best Uses of Foreshadowing in Movies Posted: Movies have been using foreshadowing since, well, the beginning of movies. These are the top 10 times a movie has left you screaming "I should've seen that coming!" This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

5 Things You Need to Know Before You See 'Jurassic World' Posted: This Friday, "Jurassic World" is unleashed on an unsuspecting world, where it will gnash its teeth and swing its tail and generally make life miserable for puny humans foolhardy enough to mess with the laws of nature. (Hubris gets you every time.) Some estimates have suggested that "Jurassic World" will be the box office hit of this summer (sorry, "Aloha"). That's right: 22 years after the original film debuted and decimated all box office records, this sequel could do pretty much the same thing. But what do you really need to know about the movie before seeing it this Friday 1. It's a Direct Sequel to the Original 'Jurassic Park'... For those keeping track at home, this is the fourth "Jurassic Park" film. The last film in the series was 2001's middling "Jurassic Park III," which saw original hero Alan Grant (Sam Neill) traveling back to a dinosaur-infested island to rescue William H. Macy's lost son. (Yes, this was the actual plot of "Jurassic Park III.") If you only kind of remember the subsequent films (and honestly, we can't blame you), then that's OK, because "Jurassic World" really does follow a direct line from the original film. Firstly, the new movie takes place on the same island as the original film: Isla Nublar, which was designed to be the home of Jurassic Park, a cutting-edge theme park that incorporated genetically reconstituted dinosaurs alongside high octane thrill attractions. "The Lost World" and "Jurassic Park III" took place on Isla Sorna, the incubator island where the animals were raised. Secondly, the idea of a dinosaur-stuffed theme park has returned; in the two sequels the dinosaurs were just running around in the jungle. A lot of the awe and wonder associated with the first film came from watching dinosaurs, an ancient force of nature, interact with modern-day technology, but this idea got lost as the franchise steamrolled on. Also, John Hammond, the grandfatherly founder of Jurassic Park (played by Richard Attenborough) is referenced, and B.D. Wong, playing geneticist Henry Wu, is a holdover from the original film. 2. It Also Incorporates Elements From the Original Novel One of the biggest changes when "Jurassic Park" moved from Michael Crichton's novel to the big screen was the timeline. In the novel, the park was weeks away from opening -- rides were moving and operational, which created some really thrilling suspense set pieces. It was this close to being open. For Spielberg's movie, he positioned the park as being much further away from opening day. This meant that whole buildings were unfinished, attractions had yet to be completed, etc. The big selling point for "Jurassic World" has been that the park is open, and fans of the novel have been waiting for this since the first movie was released. Some of the trailers have suggested that "Jurassic World" will incorporate some of those set pieces from the novel into this movie, including a sequence involving a river raft ride gone horribly awry. (This is actually the basis for the popular Universal Studios theme park attraction that can be wetly enjoyed the world over.) Additionally, it incorporates elements from actual real world theme parks (a giant stunt show involving an aquatic dinosaur, a monorail straight out of Disney World). This just adds to the sense that this is very much in the mold of the original film/novel and as close to "classic" "Jurassic Park" as we've been in over 20 years. 3. The Villain Is a Franken-saurus When the first "Jurassic Park" opened, nobody had seen anything like it: the visual effects were a cutting-edge combination of full-sized animatronic characters and groundbreaking computer generated effects and they were utilized in the creation of unforgettable characters. The most memorable, of course, were the giant T. rex and the smarty pants velociraptors. (They could open doors!) The sequels offered scores of new dinosaurs but could never capture that same sense of charming malevolence mixed with real-world animal instincts. But "Jurassic World" promises to offer something unique: a brand-new dinosaur who is an honest-to-god character. The villain is Indominus rex, a genetically modified dinosaur that was cooked up by the park's scientists in an effort to bolster attendance. (Yes, in "Jurassic World," audiences have become jaded to the wonders of dinosaurs coming back to life. We blame Twitter.) By all accounts, she is a fearsome beast: she's a greyish white color and seems to be starting all sorts of trouble. In the trailer, it looks like its egging on the other dinosaurs to do things like bite people and fly around recklessly. She also kills other dinosaurs "for sport." Holy hell. This is one serious dinosaur and we are super excited to find out what other secrets she has. 4. Chris Pratt Plays a Velociraptor Whisperer If you've seen a billboard or a magazine cover in the past six weeks, you know that "Jurassic World" stars Chris Pratt. But you might not know who he plays. But we're here to tell you: it's Owen Grady, a velociraptor trainer who is recruited to return to the park by Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), the park operations manager. She wants him to come back to oversee the introduction of the Indominus rex. He thinks this is a very bad idea. And he should know: he's a sort of velociraptor whisperer. These aren't the super-smart dolphins-with-razor-sharp-claws from the original films; they're more malleable and emotional creatures here. Some of the moments from the trailer that produced the most zippy excitement came from seeing Pratt's character that close to the velociraptors, plus another scene from the end of the trailer (that has been immortalized on those aforementioned billboards) with Pratt teaming up with the raptors to go after the Indominus rex. The idea of domesticated raptors seems to be a holdover from a much earlier, wilder script by indie film legend John Sayles that saw the dinosaurs taking up arms and going after drug dealers on the mainland. (Yes, this was a really-for-real script that got very close to production.) We personally think that tame dinosaurs in "Jurassic World" are just the right amount of wacky for the new movie. 5. It's Steven Spielberg-Approved Master filmmaker Steven Spielberg directed the first "Jurassic Park," and the also helmed the darker, weirder, less satisfying sequel, 1998's "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" (a move that screamed "contractual obligation" more than "artistic compulsion"). With "Jurassic Park III," Spielberg retained a producer credit but it seemed to be pretty distant from what the director intended (or wanted to do with the beloved franchise); the production was a mess and not even Oscar-winning filmmaker Alexander Payne could detangle the script. But Spielberg has been very vocal about how much he approves of "Jurassic World." Not only did he take a more active role as a producer, but he cherrypicked the new filmmaker (indie darling Colin Trevorrow and his writing partner Derek Connolly) and has been appearing in promotional materials saying what a dream come true the project truly is. This is a pretty big deal, considering how uncomfortable Spielberg has always seemed on camera (and that was when he was promoting things that he actually directed). Spielberg has an innate ability to designate and mentor talented young directors (everyone from Joe Dante to Brad Bird to Tobe Hooper), filmmakers who might have been overlooked by the studio had he not taken to them. It speaks volumes that not only did Spielberg designate Trevorrow as the future king, but that he's been speaking up about it in promotional materials. Spielberg is putting his mouth where his money is. "Jurassic World" opens everywhere June 12th. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Yep, 'Pitch Perfect 3' Is Happening (Now Show These Ladies the Money) Posted: It's aca-awesome news, if not exactly surprising: "Pitch Perfect 3" is a go. "Pitch Perfect 2" was a huge success -- even more than expected -- and The Hollywood Reporter said Universal and Gold Circle are moving ahead with round 3. Sources told THR that negotiations have already started with Kay Cannon, who wrote the first two movies. However, they said it's not clear if Elizabeth Banks will return as director (as well as producer/actress/overall queen) or if Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson will be back as stars. They're not suggesting the ladies won't return, but they did note that the actresses could now ask for MAJOR $$$ since they have shown they are clearly worth it -- and, apparently, there were no options in place for Anna and Rebel. So they are in a position to negotiate hard. (Now we're picturing them in a meeting like that credit score commercial. What can YOU do for ME?) THR said Anna and Rebel were paid about $2 million each for the second movie. That was a raise, they said, from low six figures for Anna and less than $100,000 for Rebel for the first movie. Well, what do you suggest they pitch for Pitch3 -- $10 million each? Start the bidding... Are you excited to hear that the "Pitch" will be perfect once again, however they resolve that with the plot, or do you wish they would just quit while they're ahead? Want more stuff like this? In a new "Inside Amy Schumer" sketch, Amy sits down with actress Amber Tamblyn and they prepare to watch some porn. Amber first notes that she's never been into porn; the idea of people getting paid to have sex has never turned her on. Amy replies, "Totally, like I hear you, but trust me, this is different. It's not like porny-porn, it feels like real sex -- it just happens to be, literally, from the woman's point of view." Get More: Comedy Central,Funny Videos,Funny TV Shows Want more stuff like this? 13 Sequels That Took F---ing Forever to Happen Posted: Waiting a decade -- or more -- to make a sequel isn't exactly a widely practiced business model in Hollywood. Lately, the longest you have to wait is two or three years before the next installment in whatever potential or established franchise hits theaters. In the last couple of years, however, waiting a decade (or more) for a follow-up isn't such a crazy proposition. (Um, hello, "Mad Max: Fury Road.") To celebrate Hollywood's longest-gestating sequels -- and the potential disappointment that comes with them -- we present the widest gaps between two movies of the same franchise, along with whether or not they were worth the wait. Spoiler alert: A lot of them are not. This is an update to an earlier feature written by Christopher Campbell. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

'Fifty Shades of Grey' Just Got Two Rounds of Bad News Posted: Poor "Fifty Shades of Grey" is having a rough Hump Day. Go give it a spanking to make it feel better! First, it looks like a manuscript of E.L. James's next book, "Grey" has been stolen. That's the novel that's coming out next week, telling "Fifty Shades of Grey" from Christian Grey's perspective. According to the BBC, police are now investigating what happened, after Random House reported a missing copy on Tuesday. So you may end up seeing passages leaked online. Good for you (if you're a fan), bad for the author and publisher. So that's a setback. Potentially worse though, is the shade "Fifty Shades of Grey" screenwriter Kelly Marcel just threw on Bret Easton Ellis's podcast. She hasn't seen the movie, starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, because it was such a heartbreaking process with so many compromises. Vulture captured a bunch of quotes from Kelly, who co-wrote the first movie's script with E.J. James. Here are a few of her thoughts on the script, why Charlie Hunnam left, and why she hasn't seen the movie: Oh well. The second movie, "Fifty Shades Darker," is scheduled for a February 10, 2017 release, with E.L. James's husband Niall writing the script. The third movie, "Fifty Shades Freed," is scheduled for February 9, 2018. And now maybe whoever stole that copy of "Grey" can take his or her turn to point out all the flaws. Watch Bryce Dallas Howard's Musical PSA: 'I Am Not Jessica Chastain' Posted: Sometimes celebrities just look too much alike. It happens. Full disclosure: We can't always tell the generically handsome Chris-es apart. Evans. Pratt. Hemsworth. Pine. It's like there's a hot blond conveyor belt out there -- and apparently the same thing is happening on a ginger beauty front for Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard. But enough is enough! They are different people, and if takes a brilliant spoof song to set the record straight, all the better. Yes! Viewers will have another chance to get confused by the actresses when Bryce stars in "Jurassic World" this weekend, and Jessica stars in "The Martian" later this year. Want more stuff like this? Best of Late Night TV: 'Nonsense Karaoke,' Chris Pratt Talks Indiana Jones, Betty White's Prank Call Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. Denis Leary and Molly Shannon were on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and they performed some "Nonsense Karaoke." The lyrics are so good. This may end up the next Spike TV show after "Lip Sync Battle"! Denis dressed like a rock star for his new show "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll." He said, his first day on set, he took a photo with a woman in his rock star gear and she told him she was so excited to pose with her favorite "Glee" star. Yep, she thought he was Jane Lynch! Now you must watch "Jimmy Kimmel Live" guests Chris Pratt and Abby Elliott playing "Name That Famous Celebrity." It's a very Fallon/Corden bit. Chris and Abby were blindfolded and had to guess the celebs in photos just based on hilarious descriptions from Jimmy's celebrity-obsessed friend Yehya. Separately, Chris stroked his own his nipples on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. His older brother, who is a cop, made fun of him. They also shared some less sexy older photos. Chris was obviously there to promote "Jurassic World" and they shared a clip and Chris discussed working with Steven Spielberg. Chris also played coy on the Indiana Jones rumors, but the way he was acting when Jimmy brought it up.... We'll see! Chris also talked about the big celebration for his mom's 60th birthday. Betty White and Kyle MacLachlan were on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" and they seem like ideal dinner guests. Here's Kyle talking about making up the anthem for Portland for "Portlandia." Betty makes a great little William Shatner quip. And here's the story of Betty White prank calling James Corden. She called him with her special requests before the show, but he didn't know she was just joking. "Cream is just brown milked down." Haha. Jerry Seinfeld was on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" -- it was his first time on the show, and he said he's auditioning new shows after David Letterman's exit. Jerry revealed that he skipped the pre-interview part of the talk show segment, because if Seth wants the job he has to do the work. Haha. In the second video, he shared how tired he is of political correctness, referencing a comedy bit he did that did not go over too well. "There's a creepy PC thing out there that really bothers me." In the third video, he discussed how Hulu is going to restore the network version of "Seinfeld." Larry King and "Veep" star Anna Chlumsky were both on "Conan," and Conan talked about how much he loves Larry's stream-of-consciousness tweets. Larry said every Sunday he shares his "two cents" and his wife is the one who tweets them out. Here's Conan reading off his favorite tweets from Larry: Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.
