Caitlyn Jenner May Cameo on Amazon Series 'Transparent' Posted: Caitlyn Jenner has already taken the publishing world by storm, and now, she may take on the small screen, too. Following her powerful debut on the cover of Vanity Fair, Jenner's journey as a transgender woman could become a plotline on Amazon series "Transparent" -- and Jenner herself may appear on the show in some capacity. A pair of reports suggest that the Olympian and reality star may factor into upcoming episodes of the series, which focuses on a family patriarch (Jeffrey Tambor) coming out as a transgender woman, and transitioning from male to female, much like Jenner has now done. Speaking with reporters at the Brass Ring Awards dinner earlier this week, "Transparent" creator Jill Soloway -- who based the show on her experience with her own father, who came out as transgender four years ago -- said that Jenner's story resonated with her, and she hoped to incorporate it in some way on the show. Soloway said that she's spoken to Jenner, and Jenner told her that she watched the series with her step-daughter, Kim Kardashian. The showrunner also revealed that she's offered an open invitation to Jenner to stop by the set -- or even step in front of cameras. "I don't know if she'd want to act, but we definitely want to incorporate the fact that she came out into this season," Soloway told reporters. "Just to have that base conversation somewhere in a scene, for sure." Soloway added that Jenner's involvement in "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" has made her story that much more high-profile, and said that that visibility would serve to help educate millions about the trans community. "Sometimes I just trip on the fact that she's the patriarch of the most famous family on the planet," Soloway told reporters. "There's an international resonance with people recognizing that trans people are people too." Jenner has yet to comment about the possibility of appearing on "Transparent," though according to E!, producers have already reached out to her. "A source confirms to E! News that Caitlyn has been asked to visit the set of 'Transparent,'" the site writes. "And while the show isn't exactly sure of her acting abilities, they still 'would love her to be in' a future episode." Stay tuned. 'Degrassi: The Next Generation' to End After 14 Seasons Posted: All good things must come to an end, and sadly for "Degrassi" fans, that means that the long-running teen soap is leaving the air. "Degrassi: The Next Generation" is set to air its final episode this summer, following 14 seasons on TeenNick. The Canadian series, which started in 2001, spurred the careers of numerous stars, including rapper Drake, "The Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev, and "90210" star Shenae Grimes. According to Variety, the series will bow with a two-week finale event, beginning with an hour-long special on July 20, "It Goes There: Degrassi's Most Talked About Moments," that features interviews with cast members, creators, and fans. The special will be followed by new episodes every night of the week leading up the July 31 series finale. "For an incredible 14 seasons, 'Degrassi' has been a groundbreaking show tackling so many important topics that real teens face in their everyday lives," said Keith Dawkins, senior vice president and general manager of Nicktoons, TeenNick, and Nick Jr. in a statement. "In the final episodes on TeenNick and through the hour-long special and social activations, we hope to say goodbye in a way that is both fitting to the show and 'Degrassi''s passionate fan base." "Few producers are as blessed as we have been, working with so many talented and creative individuals at TeenNick for 14 seasons of 'Degrassi;' including 385 episodes and over 100 pieces of original short-form web content," said "Degrassi" executive producer Stephen Stohn in a statement. "We thank all those at TeenNick who have worked so hard over the years to help us create a television series that changes with the times and continues to authentically connect and interact with the youth audience." The series finale airs on TeenNick on July 31. [via: Variety] Photo credit: TeenNick This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Hallelujah! A 'Sister Act' Remake Is in the Works Posted: Fans of '90s classic "Sister Act" have reason to rejoice: A remake of the heavenly comedy is in the works. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is developing a new version of the 1992 flick, which starred Whoopi Goldberg as a Reno lounge singer who's forced into the witness protection program after her mob boss boyfriend puts a hit on her. She's sent to lay low at a convent in San Francisco, but becomes a local sensation when she joins the choir and updates their repertoire. THR writes that screenwriting duo Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith and Karen McCullah ("10 Things I Hate About You," "Legally Blonde," "The Ugly Truth") are working on a script, though it's unclear at this point if it will be an exact remake, an updated take on the source material, or a sequel. "Sister Act 2" followed the flick in 1993, starring a pre-fame Lauryn Hill, and the franchise spawned a Tony-winning musical in 2006. The original film also starred Maggie Smith, Harvey Keitel, and Kathy Najimy, and we'd love to see any or all of them -- along with Goldberg -- back in some form for this follow-up. But even if that can't happen, we know this new movie will have a killer soundtrack. Amen indeed. [via: The Hollywood Reporter] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'General Hospital' Alums Jonathan Jackson, Nathan Parsons Returning Posted: Two former "General Hospital" stars are set to return to the ABC soap for a big goodbye. Entertainment Weekly reports that Jonathan Jackson and Nathan Parsons will be back as Lucky and Ethan Spencer, respectively, and will star in "a short arc" that will serve as a farewell to their onscreen dad, Luke. "GH" vet Anthony Geary, who's played Luke Spencer on and off since 1978, is retiring from the show later this season. No details about the episodes were provided. Geary is one half of famous couple Luke and Laura, whose wedding was a TV sensation back in 1981. Jackson first appeared on the show back in 1993, reprising the role over the years, until he officially left the series in 2011. He's currently a regular on fellow ABC show "Nashville," a gig he's held since 2012. Parsons left "GH" in 2013, and currently stars on The CW's "The Originals." No word yet on when Jackson and Parsons's episodes are set to air. [via: Entertainment Weekly] Photo credit: Getty Images for CMT This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
A 'Tangled' TV Series Is Coming to Disney Channel in 2017 Posted: Disney Princess fever has never been hotter -- just ask "Frozen" stars Elsa and Anna -- and the company is capitalizing on that popularity with a new Disney Channel series based on the studio's 2010 hit "Tangled." The animated musical starred the voices of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, who played Rapunzel and Eugene/Flynn, respectively. Both actors are set to reprise those roles for the series, which will also be called "Tangled," and also feature original music from longtime Disney composer Alan Menken (who received one of his many Oscar nominations for "Tangled" tune "I See the Light"). Here's the official synopsis for the series, per a Disney press release:
The film followed Rapunzel, a young princess who was kidnapped by an evil witch and forced to live alone in a tall tower, where the only means of entry or exit was by letting down her long locks. Rapunzel eventually works up the courage to leave her tower, and embarks on an adventure with the dashing bandit Flynn, with whom she falls in love. ("Tangled Ever After" is centered around their wedding.) "Tangled" is set to premiere on the Disney Channel sometime in 2017. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
James Wan Will Direct DC Comics' 'Aquaman' Posted: Fresh off his billion dollar-earning outing "Furious 7," director James Wan has targeted another big film: "Aquaman." Warner Bros. made the announcement late Wednesday, revealing that Wan had just closed a deal to helm the DC Comics flick, headlined by "Game of Thrones" star Jason Momoa. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wan will also help supervise the script, which is being written by Kurt Johnstad. "The Aquaman film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James's span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material," said Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production for Warner Bros. The studio will have to wait until at least until spring of 2016 to start production, though, since THR says Wan will be tied up with filming for his next project, "The Conjuring 2: The Endfield Experiment," throughout this fall. "Aquaman" is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters sometime in 2018. The underwater character will make his big screen debut in director Zack Snyder's upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which will serve as the springboard for a host of spinoff Justice League films. That flick is due out on March 25, 2016. [via: The Hollywood Reporter] Photo credit: Getty Images This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
A Great White Invades the Lincoln Memorial in the New 'Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!' Teaser Posted: "Lord of the Rings." "The Dark Knight." "The Godfather." And ... "Sharknado"? As the new teaser for "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!" says, the best things come in threes. OK, nobody, including Syfy, thinks "Sharknado" belongs with those cinematic titans, but hey, the franchise has always liked to be cheeky. "Sharknado" knows what it is - and revels in its cheesiness, its ridiculousness, it's "so bad, it's good"-ness.The third movie takes the action to Washington, D.C. - there is a LOL-worthy shot of a great white plopping down in Abraham Lincoln's lap - and is stuffed with celebrity cameos from Ann Coulter, Michele Bachmann, and Mark Cuban. The latter is apparently the president (ha!) and is seen in the trailer toting a gun alongside Ian Ziering. Tara Reid and Cassie Scerbo reprise their roles from the previous movies. But this should tell you everything you need to know about "Sharknado 3": It features an appearance by one Mr. David Hasselhoff. Set your DVRs for "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!" on July 22 at 9 pm. on Syfy. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Lifetime's 'Full House' Movie Cast Revealed in First Photo Posted: The "Full House" nostalgia wave has reached its peak. On the heels of news that Netflix is making a "Full House" spinoff, with original cast members reprising their roles, comes the first photo of the cast of Lifetime's behind-the-scenes movie about the ABC sitcom. "The Unauthorized 'Full House' Story" follows in the footsteps of the cable network's similar "Unauthorized 'Saved By the Bell' Movie." It traces the rising fame of the cast as they go from relative unknowns to major stars on one of TV's most popular and beloved comedies. The cast list is:
The "Saved by the Bell" movie performed dismally in the ratings, with just 1.6 million viewers last Labor Day. But there might be more interest in "Full House" now with the sequel in the works. "Fuller House" features Candace Cameron-Bure as single mom D.J. Tanner, who invites sister Stephanie (Sweetin) and best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Barber) to move in to help her out. "The Unauthorized 'Full House' Story" premieres Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Everest' Trailer: Climbing Up Is Easy, Getting Down Is the Hard Part Posted: Scaling Mount Everest is an amazing feat. But it's sort of meaningless if you don't survive the trip back down the mountain. The first trailer for "Everest" features some breathtaking vistas as two teams of climbers - including Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Hawkes, and Sam Worthington - ascend to the peak of Everest. It's a tough, grueling trek, with plenty of dangerous moments, but they seem to triumph and bond on the way up. Then, the real battle begins, as a terrible storm threatens their lives on the harrowing journey back. The movie is based on the true story of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, in which eight people died. The footage looks incredible, and the cast list is very impressive (the movie also features Keira Knightley, Robin Wright, and Emily Watson). Director Baltasar Kormákur shot the film in real conditions and in IMAX 3D so we can expect some jaw-dropping scenery. "Everest" opens in theaters September 18. Want more stuff like this? All Hail Michael Fassbender in the 'Macbeth' Trailer Posted: Double, double, toil, and trouble ... there's a new adaptation of "Macbeth" and it looks like a fiery cauldron about to bubble. A trailer was just released for Justin Kurzel's "Macbeth," which debuted at Cannes a few weeks ago. It's got the look and feel of "Game of Thrones," only with Shakespearean dialogue. Michael Fassbender stars as the ruthlessly and murderously ambitious Macbeth, who kills the king - so he can wear the crown. Along for the ride is his equally calculating wife, Lady Macbeth (Marion Cotillard). If you're familiar with the story, you know what happens next - their drive for power and their immoral actions eat away at them. The trailer is dark and intense, filled with scenes of a war-painted Macbeth in battle and a haunted Lady Macbeth on the sidelines. It's been awhile since this Shakespearean tragedy was put to film, and we have high hopes for this one. "Macbeth" does not yet have a release date in the U.S. Want more stuff like this? New 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' Trailer Is Fun as Hell Posted: Breaking into impossibly difficult locations is Ethan Hunt's (Tom Cruise) specialty. Helping him do that is Benji Dunn's (Simon Pegg). The new "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" trailer is just as action-packed, high-adrenaline, and entertaining as the first, but with more of everything. There are more gadgets. There are more car chase scenes. There are more wry quips from Pegg. There's more of Jeremy Renner and Ving Rhames. The dial has been turned up to 11. In the movie, Ethan and team go up against "The Syndicate," a nefarious criminal organization described by Dunn as the "anti-IMF." On board for this adventure is Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust. They've got to do all this just as the IMF itself is under political attack. "Now we're all wanted by the CIA," Renner sighs. "Awesome." Yeah, it DOES look awesome. "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" opens in theaters July 31. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Best of Late Night TV: Jason Statham's Slap Jack and Allison Janney's Kiss Crusade Posted: If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night. There's nothing better than watching Jimmy Fallon slap his guests on "The Tonight Show," which brings us to Slap Jack. It's like Black Jack only with slapping, and is basically an excuse for Jimmy to vent the pressure he feels from being the funniest host on late night television. This week's victim? Jason Statham. Apparently, Allison Janney planted a kiss on James Corden at the "Critic's Choice Awards," and now things are somewhat awkward -- especially since Allison was a guest on James' show. However, Allison spoofed herself by filming a clip wherein she kisses random members of James' staff, and it's HILARIOUS. Allison Janney for all the awards! "The Tony Awards" are almost upon us, and Alan Cumming is hosting. The strange part? He's, like, so not into musicals. Should be interesting watching him perform.....
