13 Times Amy Schumer Proved Women Are F--ing Hilarious Posted: Amy Schumer is f---ing funny, you guys -- and she has the sold-out venues, a hit Comedy Central show, and a Judd Apatow-directed movie ("Trainwreck," which she also wrote) to prove it. From the profane to the profound, Schumer doesn't pull any punches, taking jabs at hot-button topic after hot-botton topic (and herself) -- to the point where her standup can feel like an episode of "The View" on acid. So take a moment to bask in some of Schumer's most outrageous, hilarious, and just about perfect moments. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Sofia Coppola Won't Direct 'The Little Mermaid' After All Posted: According to Deadline, Coppola and studio Universal just had too many creative differences over the film, based on the classic Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, and the director decided to exit the project. But Universal is pressing on, and writer Caroline Thompson will take another pass at the screenplay, which has already received several rewrites from Kelly Marcel ("Fifty Shades of Grey") and Abi Morgan ("Shame"). Coppola isn't the only high-profile director to pass on the production: Joe Wright was also at one time interested in helming the flick, but a deal never materialized. And sadly, this means that a reunion between the "Bling Ring" director and her star, Emma Watson, won't happen either. Based on the talent that the flick is trying to attract, this sounds like it will be a decidedly darker take on the story, compared to the animated musical version that Disney put out in 1989. And it's certainly setting itself up to be different from Disney's current crop of live-action remakes of its animated classics (one of which, coincidentally enough, stars Watson). It remains to be seen, however, if this version can get off the ground (or out from under the sea, if you will) once and for all. Stay tuned. The Capitol Crumbles in New 'Mockingjay - Part 2' Poster Posted: The one-sheet features a statue of the leader of Panem that's been destroyed, his marble head lying in a heap of rubble at the statue's feet. Cracks riddle the rest of the structure, and behind it, in bold, blood red, is the symbol of the Mockingjay, spraypainted in defiance over Snow's stone body. Like past entries in the "Hunger Games" franchise, "Mockingjay - Part 2" is employing some nifty viral marketing, and the new poster is part of that, featuring the hashtag #UNITE and directing fans to visit revolution.pn for more information about the rebellion. The official "Hunger Games" Facebook page also urges followers to visit thecapitol.pn, which has been taken over by rebels and features prominently the same striking image as the poster. Check out the full image below, and get excited for more fun promotions in the months leading up to the film's release. "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" hits theaters on November 20. Caitlyn Jenner to Receive Arthur Ashe Courage Award at ESPYS Posted: ESPN announced Monday that Jenner would be the recipient of the 2015 Arthur Ashe Courage Award at this year's ESPYS, and the annual sports world awards show hosted by the network. The Arthur Ashe Award is bestowed upon "individuals whose contributions transcend sports," per a press release, which compared Jenner's triumph at the 1976 Olympics to "the same strength of character [that] shone through this past April when he sat down with ABC's Diane Sawyer to come out as a transgender woman." "Bruce has received many accolades over the years for being one of the greatest Olympians of our time, but The ESPYS are honored to celebrate Bruce becoming Caitlyn," said executive producer Maura Mandt in a statement. "She has shown the courage to embrace a truth that had been hidden for years, and to embark on a journey that may not only give comfort to those facing similar circumstances, but can also help to educate people on the challenges that the transgender community faces." In a statement, Jenner noted that since the Sawyer interview aired, "the overwhelming outpouring of support from all over the world for my journey has been incredible." "However, being honored with this award, which is named after one of my heroes, is truly special," she continued. "For the first time this July, I will be able to stand as my true self in front of my peers." The ESPYS are slated to air on July 15 at 8 p.m. on ABC. A 'Hocus Pocus' Stage Show Is Coming to Disney World This Halloween Posted: Witches Winifred, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson (played by Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, respectively, in the 1993 flick) will star in the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular, a stage show that will team the trio with a host of other classic Disney villains. Though those villains' identities have yet to be fully revealed (so far Maleficent from "Sleeping Beauty" is the only confirmed participant), concept art for the event suggests that baddies such as Cruella DeVille from "101 Dalmations," the Evil Queen from "Snow White," and Jafar from "Aladdin" will also be a part of the show. Here's the official concept for the event, according to Disney Parks:
The show will take place during the annual Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which runs at the Magic Kingdom from September 15 through November 1. Our fingers are crossed that Midler, Najimy, and Parker make an appearance at the event. (Perhaps in preparation for the long-gestating "Hocus Pocus" sequel?) 'Deadpool' Is Done Filming, Ryan Reynolds Thanks Fans Posted: In a post on Twitter last Friday, Reynolds confirmed that filming on "Deadpool" had officially ended, joking that he was "going to eat a samich" now that he didn't need to stay in tip-top superhero shape. The film "has been a privilege to make," the actor tweeted. "And we got to make this film because of you." Reynolds hasn't been shy about sharing lots of insider-y looks at the flick with online followers, and his eagerness to recognize the support of fans throughout the process has been much appreciated. The actor isn't kidding when he said that it was moviegoers who got the ball rolling on the long-gestating flick; Deadpool hadn't appeared onscreen since his film debut in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," and after that flick's middling success, it seemed Reynolds's day in the spotlight would never come. Thankfully for fans, everything worked out. "Deadpool" is due in theaters on February 12, 2016. Posted: When "Entourage" hits theaters on June 3, it comes with a boatload of celebrity cameos, including Liam Neeson and Tom Brady. This is both a tradition for the HBO series-turned-feature film and for Hollywood itself, having stars pop up unexpectedly in films -- especially in "The Muppets" and any comedy with Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller or Mike Myers. It was hard work, but we narrowed down our list of movie cameos to some of the biggest, most memorable cameos of all time. SPOILERS, obviously, for "This is the End," "Zombieland," "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" and more. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

'San Andreas' vs. 'Aloha': A Cautionary Box Office Tale Posted: Neither movie got very good reviews, but "San Andreas" was generally considered a sure thing, while "Aloha" was expected to disappoint. In fact, "San Andreas" opened on top with an estimated $53.0 million, well above the $35-to-$40 million pundits had predicted. Conversely, "Aloha" debuted in sixth place with an estimated $10.0 million, at the bottom end of its meager $10-$13 million expectations. Though one is a big-budget disaster movie and the other a mid-budget romantic dramedy, the two films had a lot more in common than you might think. And yet, those elements proved an asset to one and a detriment to the other. Turns out these things matter -- except when they suddenly don't. No wonder predictions for both films were so far off. Here's what each movie had going for it -- or against it. Star power. "San Andreas" and "Aloha" both feature A-list male leads coming off the biggest hits of their careers -- "Furious 7" for Dwayne Johnson and "American Sniper" for Bradley Cooper. Of course, the disaster movie is a perfect fit for Johnson's action-hero résumé. Three-time Oscar nominee Cooper is a more versatile actor, but maybe his strong identification with "Sniper" hurt him with audiences who have a hard time seeing such an intense dramatic actor play a low-key romantic lead. (He hasn't really played this sort of part too often, and even in "Silver Linings Playbook," he was more intense than charming or funny.) That's not a knock on Cooper's performance, just an observation that The Rock has made a career out of satisfying audience expectations, while Cooper routinely defies them. The fact that "Aloha" also has Emma Stone and Rachel McAdams -- and that neither of them helped sell tickets -- seems further proof that stardom doesn't matter that much at the box office. Paradoxically, "San Andreas" shouldn't have needed any star power at all; disaster movies are all about the spectacle of destruction, not the actors dwarfed by the spectacle. And yet, if Johnson weren't the star, "San Andreas" probably would have made just the $35 to $40 million that observers had predicted. Female appeal. "Aloha" was thought to be strong counterprogramming to "San Andreas." After all, it's a romance with a handsome leading man and a spunky-everygirl leading lady (Emma Stone). Indeed, Sony exit polling showed an audience for "Aloha" that was 64 percent women. But "San Andreas" wasn't the macho action fest that Sony might have wanted as competition. Exit polling by Warner Bros. revealed an audience that was 51 percent female. Indeed, Johnson seems to appeal to women as much as he does to men, which is one reason for the success of his "Fast and Furious" installments. Plus, "Aloha" had to go up against several other recent releases with strong appeal to women, including "Pitch Perfect 2" (No. 2 this week with an estimated $14.8 million), feminist action epic "Mad Max: Fury Road" (No. 4 with an estimated $13.6 million), and even "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" (at No. 5 in its fifth weekend, still pulling in an estimated $10.9 million, for a slight edge over "Aloha" that may vanish when final figures are released on Monday). Older audience appeal. "Aloha" is certainly a movie for grown-ups, and Sony polling found 57 percent of its audience to be over the age of 30. But "San Andreas" pulled in older moviegoers in even bigger numbers, with 70 percent of its audience over age 25. With both films competing for the same ticketbuyers, "Aloha" didn't really stand a chance. Director with a track record. Not that "San Andreas" shooter Brad Peyton has much of one. It's only his third major release, after the "Cats & Dogs" sequel and the "Journey to the Center of the Earth" sequel. Still, the latter movie proved that he and Johnson can make hits together. Plus, all three of his wide releases have been in 3D, which turned out to be a huge plus this time. "San Andreas" made 44 percent of its earnings from 3D screenings, which is a high fraction these days for a 3D movie. "Aloha" writer/director Cameron Crowe has a track record, too, but it's a lot more mixed. He specializes in thoughtful romances, though it's been a long time since his biggest hits. "Jerry Maguire" was 19 years ago and "Vanilla Sky" 14 years ago. (Yes, "Say Anything" and "Almost Famous" are modern classics, but they weren't box office hits.) A decade ago, he flopped with "Elizabethtown" (a film with a similar plot to that of "Aloha"), and while he had a modest hit four years ago with family dramedy "We Bought a Zoo," it was anyone's guess whether or not he'd be able to return to the good graces of audiences and critics this time out. At any rate, he's no longer a name that sells tickets. Neither is the obscure Peyton. So all that mattered was whether they could deliver on screen. Which brings us to... Disregard for critics. Disaster movies seldom appeal to critics. The stories tend to be thin and the characters even thinner. But they're also critic-proof; audiences find them escapist and cathartic. That was certainly true this time with "San Andreas," which got mixed reviews but received an A- grade at CinemaScore, indicating very good word-of-mouth among ticketbuyers. Reviews do matter, however, for grown-up, character-driven movies like "Aloha," and unfortunately, they were almost uniformly terrible. It didn't help that Sony didn't screen the film for critics until Tuesday, three days before it opened, a tactic that critics often see as a sign that the studio isn't expecting positive reviews. Given the late screenings and Crowe's lackluster recent track record, it's possible that there was some reflexive groupthink going on here. But audiences haven't responded well either, giving the movie a B- grade at CinemaScore, a sign of weak word-of-mouth. Setting. Moviegoers have shelled out to see Los Angeles destroyed by earthquakes, aliens, even volcanoes for at least the last four decades (since Charlton Heston, the Rock of 1974, saved Angelenos from Sensurround vibrations in "Earthquake"). Maybe there's some schadenfreude involved. Maybe it's just Hollywood externalizing its own self-loathing. Or maybe, with all the real tremors, mudslides, wildfires, droughts, and other catastrophes inflicted upon southern California, waiting for the Big One isn't that far-fetched a disaster-movie premise. In any case, "San Andreas" is just the latest film in a successful pattern. You'd think Hawaii would make a scenic enough setting to ensure the success of "Aloha," but here, the setting backfired, earning the movie a wave of bad press from Asian-American activists who decried the movie for whitewashing the island state with a predominantly caucasian cast. (Why there weren't similar complaints a few years ago for "The Descendants" is a mystery, but at least some of those characters were fully aware of their status as relative carpetbaggers and colonialists.) True, there were probably few potential moviegoers who were aware of the controversy and fewer still who let it dissuade them from buying tickets. But it couldn't have helped. Simple title. At least the title "San Andreas" tells you exactly what you're getting: an earthquake disaster movie set in California. The title "Aloha" tells you you're getting a movie set in Hawaii, but beyond that, what it promises is ambiguous. Again, it all comes down to marketing. Looks like both films delivered on the promise of their titles. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

'Tron 3' Is Dead: Did 'Tomorrowland' Kill It, and Can Fans Save It? Posted: Back in April, The Hollywood Reporter said the sequel to "Tron: Legacy" was a go, with Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund scheduled to pick up their roles. However, THR returned late on Friday, May 29 with a never-mind report, saying Disney had chosen not to move forward with the sequel. It was never official to begin with, but THR said prep had started on the third film, with production possibly beginning this fall in Vancouver with Joseph Kosinski returning to direct. But forget all that. After the "Tron 3" is dead news broke, Variety quoted a Disney executive, who put the blame on a crowded movie schedule: Not everyone is convinced this is just about a crowded movie slate. THR noted that, while Disney has had success with live-action versions of fairy tales like "Cinderella" and "Maleficent," it stumbled a bit with "Tomorrowland," which cost about $180 million and underperformed with a $33 million U.S. debut. They just put that information out there without blame, but some readers picked up the scent and think there is a connection between those disappointing numbers and Disney not moving forward with another big budget movie. According to Variety, the plan was for "Tron 3" to cost roughly as much as the second, which had a $170 million budget. A source told the site the movie "could resurface at some point but it's not going to get the go button right now." Several fans are upset at the "Tron 3" news, and a Change.org petition was launched asking Disney to revive the movie. As fan Lucas Lowman wrote: So far, the petition has more than 12,000 signatures. Do you hope "Tron 3" does arrive eventually, or is this no great loss to you? Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

'Outlander' Boss Previews More 'Urban' and 'Political' Paris-Set Season 2 Posted: Moore told Deadline they were roughly three weeks into Season 2 at the time, and "the footage looks really good." Here are more Moore quotes to Deadline:
Here's some of what Moore shared with TVLine about what's next for Jamie and Claire:
And here are some similar but still interesting quotes from Moore to Entertainment Weekly:
There's no word yet on when Season 2 will debut, but Starz will give it "at least" 13 episodes. Season 1, which had 16 episodes, premiered last August and had a break between two batches of eight episodes -- from August-September to April-May. So we'll have to wait and see how they handle things for the next round. Are you excited for what happens next? New 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Book Tells Story From Christian's Perspective Posted: The original "Fifty Shades of Grey" -- which was adapted into a moving starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan -- is from the perspective of Anastasia Steele. Author E.L. James issue a statement on the new book (via Variety): She also shared a look at the book cover on Instagram: The "Fifty Shades" trilogy has sold 125 million copies worldwide. The second movie, "Fifty Shades Darker," is scheduled for a February 10, 2017 release. The third movie, "Fifty Shades Freed," is scheduled for February 9, 2018. No word on whether they'd make a movie from "Grey" but probably not ... right? Would it be too repetitive or be even more enticing than seeing things from Ana's view? 'Suicide Squad' Director Says 'Surprises Are Intact' After Set Leaks Posted: Back on May 26, Ayer tweeted about heading to the streets to film some stunt scenes: Toronto thanked him back by visiting the "Suicide Squad" set, taking tons of photos and videos, and floating them online. You may recall seeing the Joker, Harley Quinn photo, or the Batmobile chasing the Jokermobile around Toronto, or Batman crouching on the roof of the Joker's car. Ayer never posted anything while they leaks came out, but on May 31 he updated with this tweet: So he hopes you liked that little peek behind the curtain because there will be no more -- unless he shares official updates, which he may do again. He was the one to share the first cast photo and look at the Joker, and he'll probably do more stuff like that in the interim before the movie comes out on August 5, 2016. Want more stuff like this? Watch Tracy Morgan's Emotional First Interview After Car Accident Posted: After reviewing what happened with the crash, Matt Lauer first asked Tracy how he felt. "I'm -- I can't believe I'm here," Tracy said. "I can't believe I'm in front of you. I can't believe I'm just seeing the tragedy happen, it kind of -- it touches me." Tracy said he's "been down" in the past year, but his family -- including his soon-to-be-wife Megan and "30 Rock" co-star Tina Fey -- have helped keep his spirits up. "The case is settled but the pain is always going to be there for Jimmy Mack," Tracy said, tearing up. "He was a close friend of mine, a comrade in comedy. He was a loving man, he was a warm man, he was a good man. It just hurts me to see that he's gone. That's it." Matt asked Tracy to take him back to June of last year to that accident, but Tracy said, "I don't remember the accident," he just remembers coming to and having his family there. He didn't learn that Jimmy had died until he came out of the coma and his family said they put his friend to rest. He watched the accident and Jimmy's funeral on YouTube. "I lost it for about a week." He felt compelled to watch that and pay his respects. Tracy said he still has his good days and his bad days, when he forgets things and has headaches and nose bleeds. He's just grateful that his family didn't travel with him for that accident. "I look at that accident -- my daughter was 10 months old. She wouldn't have made it, and Megan wouldn't have made it. I don't know, man, that's really the thing that tears me up." He said bones heal, but the loss of his friend will never heal. He's grateful to Wal-Mart for taking "full responsibility" for what happened. His goal is to heal 100 percent and when that happens he'll return to comedy. Watch the full interview below. Glad to see him recovering. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Game of Thrones' Recap: 'Hardhome' Brings Epic Battle in Best Episode Yet Posted: As Stefon would put it, this episode had everything -- perfect lay-down-the-law speeches from Tyrion Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen, who just met and decided to team up; Arya basically turning into 00Stark; Sansa finally learning that Theon Greyjoy did not kill Bran and Rickon Stark (Rickon, where are you?!); Jorah Mormont continuing to rival Sansa for most tortured character; Cersei Lannister still awaiting her rock bottom; and the most exciting zombie battle "The Walking Dead" never staged. Jon Snow took on a White Walker, and even though Ghost wasn't on hand to play hero this time, Longclaw was. (Pause to thank late Lord Commander Mormont for giving Jon that sword. And thanks also to Jorah Mormont for returning the sword to his father. In a way, Jorah deserves credit for saving Jon's life tonight.) What an episode, though, no? Best of Season 5 so far, and a tough one for the last two episodes to top. Parts of this season have been frustrating (to put it mildly) but "Hardhome" delivered something for all GoT fans, including plenty of surprises (pleasant ones this time) for book readers. Or are you one of the purists who still cringes at any change from the books? Read on for a recap of Episode 8: The episode started with Tyrion and Jorah in court, facing Dany. Two great characters finally talking. How could Dany trust that Tyrion was who he said he was? Tyrion told Dany her own story, as heard from Westeros. Why should she bring him into her service? He gives the right, and obvious response, that she doesn't know about Westeros the way that he does, and he was pretty darn good as Hand of the King. Dany asked what Tyrion would have her do with Jorah, since she swore she'd kill him if he ever returned. Why should the people trust a queen who cannot keep her promises? Tyrion approached her with both sides of the argument. Poor Jorah. "A ruler who kills those devoted to her is not a ruler who inspires devotion." More wisdom from T-dawg. But that doesn't mean Jorah should stick around. Tyrion said Jorah cannot be by her side when she goes to Westeros. So Dany took Tyrion's advice and said to remove Captain Friend Zone from the city. Jorah, who still has greyscale, and Sansa should compete for Worst Luck in the World. Oh, and Ser Jorah returned to the slaver to offer himself up for a fight in the great pits. CERSEI IN DUNGEON Cersei was urged to confess, and beaten every time she spoke anything other than a confession. She was still pissy and threatening at the start. Qyburn visited Cersei and said a trial is coming, with charges including fornication, treason, incest, and her role in the murder of King Robert. Ser Kevan returned from Casterly Rock to be Hand of the King and preside over the small council. Tommen won't see anyone, he's distraught about his wife and mother being jailed. (Useless!) Qyburn said there's a way out, but Cersei still refused to confess. He said "the work still continues," so maybe she saw some hope there. Cersei got more desperate as the episode progressed, licking drops off the ground in her thirst. Arya practiced being someone else, named Lana, and made up her story. She went out into Braavos with a brand new look -- love the hair -- and she made her way down to the docks to do her new job selling fish. But that's not her real job. She's like a spy getting information, then going full James Bond to take out threats. Assassin Stark! The other girl said Arya is not ready. WINTERFELL Theon brought more food to prisoner Sansa, who simply asked him "Why?" Why did Theon/Reek tell Ramsay about the candle escape plan? Reek said there is no escape, ever. Reek talked about Theon in third person, describing the flaying. Sansa said "good." If it wasn't for Theon she'd have a family. If she could do what Ramsay did to Theon she would. Theon said he deserved to be Reek. Sansa was furious about Bran and Rickon, but Theon told her the two boys who were killed weren't Bran and Rickon. Yeah, but they were still two little kids. They still didn't deserve to die. But now Sansa knows her brothers are still alive. Meanwhile, Roose Bolton was having a war meeting. He said they're more prepared for a siege than Stannis could ever be; they just have to wait for Stannis to freeze. Ramsay and Roose debated what to do. Ramsay had his own plan; he wants to take the battle to Stannis. He wants 20 good men to go with him to attack Stannis, instead of waiting behind the walls of Winterfell. THE WALL Gilly helped the injured Sam, who got his butt kicked last week. They're both scared, they have no friends there. Except maybe Olly, Jon's steward, who brought Sam food and asked him a question about Jon going to Hardhome to save wildlings. Why is Jon saving them? Sam said wildlings are people just like them, there are good ones and bad ones. They'll need all the people they can get when the White Walkers come. Sam said not to worry about Jon, he always comes back. On that note... Jon led the boats sailing into Hardhome, a free folk village. They did not get the warmest welcome, and not just talking temperature-wise. Tormund approached the Lord of Bones, and Jon said he and Tormund were allies. Probably the wrong thing to say. Words did not go well, with Tormund beating the Lord of Bones to death for a d-ck joke. But they went inside and Jon Snow made his pitch as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch -- he said he's not there to make friends, it's about survival. The White Walkers don't care if they're free folk or crow. Jon broke out Sam's bag of dragonglass to show how you can fight them. Jon was asked about Mance, and he said Mance is dead. How? "I put an arrow through his heart." Probably not the best, or even most fair and accurate, way to report that news. Tormund took up the story to defend what Jon did, which was mercy for Mance. Jon went for the "think about the children" argument -- no one will forget the dead lost on both sides, this is about survival. He made a great speech, on par with the Tyrion and Dany talks. Great night for speeches. One of the free folk leaders said she could never trust a man in black (sorry Will Smith) but she trusts Tormund. She's not a fan of Thenns, though, since they stormed off, not willing to go with the group. (Is she a fan of that giant? That giant ruled.) That wall was not destined to hold and wights (like walkers on "The Walking Dead" mixed with the undead pirates of "Pirates of the Caribbean") broke through. Things got tense and hectic, and Jon led a battle to hold the gate while everyone else tried to get away on boats. Where's Ghost when you need him to save the day again?! At one point, Jon looked up and saw White Walkers on horseback. Where's the dragonglass? Jon had himself his own battle with a White Walker, one-on-one. SO EPIC. His blade, Valyrian steel, saved the day. Works like dragonglass. But the wildling woman was attacked by the dead (creepy dead children!) and a ton of new dead just landed like a frozen zombie herd to attack. The episode ended with a White Walker putting his arms up and waking all those who were just killed as newly undead, ready to attack. Oh crap. It's on!
