The Last Horror Blog: The Pros and Cons of Making 'The Stand' Into a TV Show and a Movie Posted: 15 Jun 2015 09:00 PM PDT It’s been a rough road for adaptations of some of Stephen King’s biggest books. Rumors of a movie based on King and Peter Straub’s epic The Talisman have floated around for years (with Steven Spielberg attached at one point), but have never come to fruition. Ron Howard tantalized us with what was sure to be an amazing multi-feature version of King’s sprawling dark fantasy series The Dark Tower, but that too has languished in development Hell (although it may be moving forward again). Then Josh Boone came along with plans to update King’s post-apocalyptic masterpiece The Stand for a new generation. That project originally earned consternation from fans when it was announced that the 1000+ page novel (the unexpurgated version – King’s... 'Fantastic Beasts' Finds Its Female Lead in 'Inherent Vice' Posted: 15 Jun 2015 07:30 PM PDT The wizarding world of Harry Potter is two things: A) wonderful, and B) very, very British. Sure, the eight movies made from seven books do mention places outside of the Hogwarts homeland of Britain, and there are some characters and references from other countries thrown in the mix, but America is not one of them. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the new Harry Potter spin-off franchise written by J.K. Rowling herself, is set in America, however, and it just cast its female lead. Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) will play Porpentina, shortened to just Tina, a witch who the main character Newt Scamander (recently cast as Eddie Redmayne) teams up with when he visits New York City in search of magical creatures to document. That said, it doesn't seem... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Behold! The Sponsored Dinosaurs You Didn't See in 'Jurassic World' (Exclusive Art) Posted: 15 Jun 2015 06:00 PM PDT In Jurassic World, Jake Johnson's dinosaur purist scoffs at the idea of the park offering sponsored dinosaurs. He jokes about a few, sending Tostidon and Pepsisaurus stomping into our imaginations. But why stop there? What other Jurassic World sponsors would make great dinosaurs? Arnold Schwarzenegger Explains His New "Guardian" Terminator in 'Terminator: Genisys' Posted: 15 Jun 2015 04:30 PM PDT Imagine going back in time to 1984 and telling fans of The Terminator that Arnold Schwarzenegger would become the hero of the franchise. Not just that, but he would be a father figure to John Connor and later Sarah Connor in sequels spread out over nearly 25 years. Not only that but his good Terminator would eventually go back in time to literally and figuratively all but erase the existence of his bad Terminator from the first movie, and make null all the events that play out in that original installment. They'd look at you like you're crazy. Mostly just for claiming to be from the future. But all of it is where we're at with Terminator: Genisys, a movie that might at least make you feel like you've gone back in time yourself and helped changed the past... Chris Pratt Is Signed On for 38 'Jurassic World' Sequels, Plus: What the Next One Might Be About Posted: 15 Jun 2015 03:00 PM PDT In case you were hiding out on Isla Nublar over the weekend and missed the news, Jurassic World absolutely pummeled the box office, raking in $204 million for the year's highest opening as well as second all-time behind Marvel's The Avengers ($207 million). That's big -- like Idominus Rex big -- and that also means this franchise is as hot as it's ever been. While speaking to EW, Jurassic World star Chris Pratt did confirm that he's signed on for additional Jurassic sequels -- "I am. They have me for I think 38 movies or something," he joked. But even with Pratt returning, it's hard to figure out where they'd take a sequel since that dinosaur theme park ain't exactly opening back up anytime soon. So where does that leave... 'Kindergarten Cop' Remake On Its Way... But Who Can Replace Ah-nuld? Posted: 15 Jun 2015 01:30 PM PDT A remake of the 1990 comedy Kindergarten Cop is on its way, but Arnold Schwarzenegger will not be starring in the new version. The original followed on the heels of Twins, which established the 1980s action star as a capable comic performer -- at least when teamed with Danny DeVito! That unlikely pairing was a great selling point for Twins, and expanded the possibilities for Schwarzenegger, who'd starred in a string of macho action blockbusters until then. He promptly reestablished his action credentials with the great, exceedingly violent Total Recall, which made Kindergarten Cop all the more surprising when it hit theaters a few months later. Schwarzenegger plays Detective John Kimble, who is pursuing an especially villainous drug dealer, and ends up going... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Movie News: First Look at 'Get Smurfy'; 'Spider-Man' Casting Speculation Continues Posted: 15 Jun 2015 12:08 PM PDT Get Smurfy: Our first look at Get Smurfy reveals a fresh yet familiar world. The animated reboot features the voices of Demi Lovato (as Smurfette), Mandy Patinkin (as Papa Smurf), and Rainn Wilson (as Gargamel, aka "their nemesis"). The story "will follow Smurfette and her brothers as they search for a legendary Smurfs village." It's heading for theaters on March 31, 2017. [EW.com] Spider-Man: Who will be the new Spider-Man? The character is rumored to have a small role in Captain America: Civil War, which is currently filming, and so it would seem a decision would need to be made soon. Current speculation claims that Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game) is now out of contention, while Tom Holland (The Impossible, above left) is still in the mix...
