Comics on Film: Why a New 'Green Lantern' Film Should Include Multiple Green Lanterns Posted: 26 Jun 2015 06:49 PM PDT About four years ago, Warner Bros.’ Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds and Mark Strong was released in theaters, marking the studio’s first concerted effort at making a DC Comics movie outside of its comfort zone with Batman and Superman. Fans were hopeful, as trailers looked promising and it seemed like it was going to be ambitious. When it was ultimately released, though, the nearly universal reaction was one of disappointment. On the critics’ side of things, they felt there was very little that set it apart from the most generic of superhero fair. On the fans’ side of things, many felt there were too many cooks in the kitchen, and that they didn’t understand what made the recent Green Lantern comics by the likes of Geoff... Ben Affleck and the Director of 'Warrior' are Making a Movie About the FIFA Scandal Posted: 26 Jun 2015 05:00 PM PDT There's not much Hollywood loves more than a good scandal, so it should be little surprise that the recent raid on FIFA's allegedly corrupt executives is already heading to the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter has word that Ben Affleck is set to produce Houses of Deceit for his home studio Warner Bros. Affleck won't be directing the project, though. Those duties are going to Gavin O'Connor, who just recently directed Affleck in The Accountant, which will hit theaters in early 2016. And the whole thing will be based on the as-yet-unpublished book by investigative journalist Ken Bensinger. Houses of Deceit won't just be a broad look at the scandal, but rather will focus on American FIFA executive Chuck Blazer, who rose from being a nobody soccer fan to... Don't Expect to See That Channing Tatum 'Ghostbusters' Movie Any Time Soon Posted: 26 Jun 2015 03:30 PM PDT If you need a reminder that projects rise and fall quickly in Hollywood, look no further than the Ghosbusters franchise. Before Sony even started filming the current one, directed by Paul Feig and featuring an all-female team of Ghostbusters (plus Chris Hemsworth as their secretary), it was revealed that the studio had huge plans for the franchise, including a spin-off movie that would star Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt and would be written by Iron Man 3's Drew Pearce. About two months later Chris Pratt pretty shot that news down, bluntly saying "As far as I know, that's complete bulls**t." Fast forward another month or so and now Channing Tatum's producing and screenwriting partner Reid Carolin is backtracking a bit on what Pratt said. No, the... William Friedkin to Direct the 'To Live and Die in L.A.' TV Show Posted: 26 Jun 2015 02:10 PM PDT Last year I did a big, hour-long sitdown interview with the one and only William Friedkin. And even though we talked about a ton of things, I got one distinct impression from him: he loves the current state of longform TV. We started the interview with him asking me if I'd watched the Fargo series yet, and he kept bringing it and made-for-TV movies like The Normal Heart up as examples of great storytelling in this day and age. Friedkin even told us that TV show versions of at least two of his movies were in the works. The first was Killer Joe, about a Dallas detective who is a hired killer on the side, and the second was To Live and Die in L.A., about reckless Secret Service agents. At the time he told us that if he liked the pilot for the latter project, he may actually direct... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 26 Jun 2015 12:14 PM PDT Kristen Stewart Gets Bloody in American Ultra Images New images for this summer's American Ultra show off a bloody Kristen Stewart and a rough-and-tough Jesse Eisenberg, who plays a small-town stoner mixed up in a dangerous plot after he's exposed to be a former assassin. Only problem... he has no idea he used to be an assassin. Hilarious ensues. This one hits theaters on August 21. Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms Twins 2 Is Happening He's been talking it up for awhile, but it looks as if a sequel to the 1988 comedy Twins is finally happening. Arnold tells Howard Stern: "We are talking about a sequel, where we find out at the funeral of our mother, when we read the will, that there’s three of us," Schwarzenegger revealed. Thus the...
