The PGA Awards Nominate 'Ex Machina,' 'Straight Outta Compton,' 'Mad Max: Fury Road' and More

Posted: 05 Jan 2016 09:00 PM PST

The Academy Awards are without question the biggest deal as far as a Hollywood's annual awards bodies are concerned. But rarely does a movie just show up on Oscar voting ballots without making a few crucial stops at some awards groups that may not be household names but that are plenty influential within Hollywood. One of those big groups is the Producers Guild of America. The PGA is comprised of over 7,000 film and television producers, so getting nominated for an award is kind of a big deal. It's recognition from your peers that you didn't just make a decent movie, you made an exceptional one. It also happens to be a very, very good sign that you have a chance at some Oscar gold; the last eight films to win the PGA have all gone on to win Best Picture at the...

'Creed 2' Is Happening and It Might Bring Back Apollo

Posted: 05 Jan 2016 07:30 PM PST

It's safe to say that Creed was the surprise hit of 2015. No one saw a seventh Rocky movie actually delivering something new and raw and stuffed with enough greatness to have it rival the original. And then on top of all that, Sylvester Stallone is a major awards contender, nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor!  Like, what?? So of course folks are hot on a sequel, teasing a potential spin-off franchise that follows Apollo Creed's son, Adonis (Michael B. Jordan) on his quest to become a boxing champion. The word straight from MGM is that they are definitely making a Creed 2, and now Stallone is talking about the story ideas they've been tossing around -- ideas that include Apollo (Carl Weathers) returning to the franchise. “Ryan has...

Mark Zuckerberg Is Building a Real-Life JARVIS Just Like Tony Stark in the 'Iron Man' Movies

Posted: 05 Jan 2016 04:30 PM PST

What's your New Year's Resolution? Is it to lose weight? Get a new job? Find the love of your life? Build a complicated AI that will help do everything around the house, a la Tony Stark? Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg posted his New Year's Resolution earlier this week and it involves building an artificial intelligence that's very similar to Tony Stark's BFF in the Iron Man movies, JARVIS. Zuckerberg doesn't mention whether his AI will also be voiced by Paul Bettany, but it wouldn't be a bad idea -- his voice is kinda soothing.  Here's how he lays out his plan...   (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src...

Guy Watching a Pirated Movie Got Caught and Shamed By Its Star

Posted: 05 Jan 2016 03:00 PM PST

It's a real shame that so many people pirate movies. It's a real shock, though, that so many of them are shameless about doing so. You can find plenty of torrent downloaders boasting about their finds on social media. Once in a while you can even find someone openly projecting a pirated movie on an airplane. And by you, I mean the star of that very movie. Last week, Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon was on a flight and noticed her latest movie, Dilwale, showing in front of her on a partition of the plane. Dilwale, it should be pointed out, is still playing in cinemas and has been quite popular there. In India, Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened in third place behind the then week-old release, and Dilwale even made it into the top 10 in the U.S. last month. Sanon...

Here's What Happened to Will Smith's 'Independence Day' Character

Posted: 05 Jan 2016 01:30 PM PST

Will Smith first established himself in the music business as part of the duo D.J. Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. His friendly, relaxed persona translated easily into television stardom in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, starting in 1990. He then ventured into feature films with several supporting roles, most notably in the edgy drama Six Degrees of Separation. Smith's performance in Michael Bay's Bad Boys, second-billed to Martin Lawrence, showed that he was fully capable of shining in leading roles and he cemented that perception in Independence Day (1996). Earning top billing for the first time, Smith's charismatic swagger as Captain Steven Hiller energized and grounded the movie; he was convincing both as a family man and as a self-sacrificing military man ready to...
