The Last Horror Blog: The Best Horror Movies of 2015

Posted: 04 Jan 2016 10:00 PM PST

2015 was a great year for horror fans – so great, in fact, that I realized that there are still a few titles from the past calendar year that I haven’t had a chance to see yet. Even with those titles missing from the mix, I look back at the past 12 months and see a lot of really good genre efforts – so many that picking just 10 for a best of the year list proved challenging. After much debate and struggle, I’ve finally whittled my picks down to these 10 titles – movies that cover a wide range of subject matter and feature variety of different tones. Despite their differences, they all have one thing in common: they’re amongst the best horror films to be released this year, which means you should certainly check them out if you haven’t...

If you enjoy comics-based films, you know they generally have a lot of hopes pinned on them from the fans of the respective characters. So, in that vein, we thought that this week’s Comics on Film should focus on some New Year Resolutions for each of the forthcoming comics-based movies, and what we’d like to see each release fulfill. Let’s tackle them in release order:   February 12th – Deadpool When you pick up and read a Deadpool comic, there are a lot of expectations that shift when compared to other comics reading experiences. See How Cool the Lightsabers Looked On the Set of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

Posted: 04 Jan 2016 07:30 PM PST

Not long ago, Star Wars: The Force Awakens cinematographer Dan Mindel shared some behind-the-scenes photos from the production on social media and fans naturally geeked out because, well, they were cool and it was Star Wars. We've already shared a few of them over here, but one we didn't share is the one that might actually be the coolest of them all. Here it is... What makes this image so special is seeing what the lightsabers actually look like on set, and that they look like actual lightsabers. While doing press rounds for The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams spoke about the unique approach they took when it came to the lightsabers. "These were props that were almost as bright and as real as the actual lightsabers themselves," Abrams told Fox5 in DC. "The...

If you have yet to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens, please be aware that some of what follows may be considered spoilers. For the rest of us, though, it gives us a chance to take a closer look at what has quickly become an incredibly popular movie.   First Official Look at Two Old Characters Well in advance of the movie's release, we knew that Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave) would be appearing, but it took a while before we learned that she would be giving a motion-captured performance. Posted: 04 Jan 2016 03:00 PM PST

As we begin a new year at the movies, it's no surprise to see another Star Wars story front and center on moviegoers' minds. In a nationwide poll conducted by Fandango, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story topped the list as the year's most anticipated movie. The December release, which is a spinoff and takes place shortly before the first Star Wars movie, A New Hope, is still shrouded in a bit of mystery as only one image has been released. Still, with rumors that Darth Vader and maybe even Boba Fett will be in the movie fueling anticipation -- not to mention The Force Awakens smashing box office records left, right and sideways -- it certainly feels like the Force is going to remain strong with this one for a good while. (Bonus stat: The next two Star Wars movies, including...
