Marvel Studios Countdown: Looking Back at 1978's Cheesy Doctor Strange Movie Posted: 11 Jan 2016 11:00 PM PST “There is a barrier that separates the known from the unknown. Beyond this threshold lies a battleground, where forces of good and evil are in eternal conflict. The fate of mankind hangs in the balance and awaits the outcome. In every age and time, some of us are called upon to join the battle...Dr. Strange.” Thus begins the first Dr. Strange live-action movie, a noble-but-forgotten attempt to get the Sorcerer Supreme out of the pages of Marvel Comics and onto TV screens across the U.S. We’re getting a do-over in 2016, here all these years later, as part of the fabric of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and studded with an all-star cast (including Benedict Cumberbatch as the doctor). Meanwhile, the original version has grown increasingly difficult to see for... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Star Wars' Is Bringing Back Princess Leia -- Here's How Posted: 11 Jan 2016 09:00 PM PST If you watch the excellent animated series Star Wars Rebels, then you've no doubt had fun seeing a bunch of old familiar faces pop up for episode cameos, like Darth Vader, C-3PO and R2D2, Lando Calrissian and Yoda, not to mention characters from the Clone Wars series like Ahsoka Tano. Since the series takes place between Episodes III and IV, there's an entire playground full of familiar folks creators can pull from while constructing their story about the early stages of the rebel alliance. And they're about to add one more: Princess Leia. TV Insider confirms that Princess Leia will make a brief appearance in only one episode, A Princess in Lothal, that airs on Wednesday, January 20. What's cool about the way they're using her is that we get to see a Leia... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Creed 2' Is Happening and It Might Bring Back Apollo Posted: 11 Jan 2016 08:00 PM PST UPDATE: Variety has learned that MGM is targeting a November 2017 release for the Creed sequel. Considering Creed director Ryan Coogler is tackling Marvel's Black Panther next -- and it's due only a couple months after Creed 2 -- chances are strong he will not be back to direct. It's safe to say that Creed was the surprise hit of 2015. No one saw a seventh Rocky movie actually delivering something new and raw and stuffed with enough greatness to have it rival the original. And then on top of all that, Sylvester Stallone is a major awards contender, nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor! Like, what?? So of course folks are hot on a sequel, teasing a potential spin-off franchise that follows Apollo Creed's son, Adonis (Michael B. Jordan... Quentin Tarantino Plans to Turn 'The Hateful Eight' Into a Stage Play Posted: 11 Jan 2016 07:30 PM PST Much has been said about Quentin Tarantino using 70mm to turn The Hateful Eight into a unique cinematic experience. He shot on the much larger film frame and The Weinstein Company fought to outfit as many theaters as possible so they could actually properly exhibit that frame. And not only that, but Tarantino gave this roadshow version of the movie a longer running time that includes an overture and an intermission. He wanted The Hateful Eight to be a genuine theatrical event that'll be experienced differently in a theater than it will, say, streaming on demand at home. But now comes word that Tarantino has further plans to turn The Hateful Eight into another unique experience: he's going to adapt it into a stage play. The writer-director told The Wrap that he's... The Young Han Solo Movie Casting Shortlist Includes Miles Teller, Emory Cohen and Ansel Elgort Posted: 11 Jan 2016 05:30 PM PST Over the past few months Disney has thrown out one of the widest casting nets ever to find an actor to play a younger Han Solo in his spinoff movie. Reportedly the studio had looked at thousands of actors for the role, which makes sense considering how many different factors will go into the decision. Whoever takes on the role has to have the same arrogant swagger as the character himself, but they also have to possess the same inherent likability of Harrison Ford and yet they can't be so close to Ford that it just feels like a bizarre impersonation. That's no easy feat. Now, however, Variety is reporting they've narrowed down that list of several thousand people to just a handful of names. Unsurprisingly, most of them are either already famous or on their way... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
David Bowie, Actor and Musician, Dies at 69 Posted: 11 Jan 2016 04:00 PM PST David Bowie passed away yesterday at the age of 69, according to an official Facebook page and confirmed by his son, filmmaker Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code, Warcraft). Bowie was a giant in the music business, first hitting the top of the charts in 1969 and continuing to innovate as he reinvented his appearance and his musical stylings over the decades. His songs began appearing on film soundtracks almost immediately and eventually more than 450 movies and television shows would feature his music. As often happens with pop stars, Bowie also began a concurrent acting career, with his first screen appearance coming in a 1967 short film titled The Image. He broke through in America with his number-one hit "Fame" and that same year began production on his first... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Superhero Buzz: New 'Suicide Squad' Image, Plus Fresh 'Batman v Superman' TV Spots and More Posted: 11 Jan 2016 02:20 PM PST Pictured above is a new image from Suicide Squad, with the movie's leading players in a striking pose. "We all need good guys and everything -- yay, good guys -- but at the end of the day, they’re kinda boring,” Suicide Squad director David Ayer told USA Today. “They’re always going to do the right thing. When you’re dealing with the baddies, it’s easy to get ahead of the audience and invert expectations.” Due in theaters on August 5, Suicide Squad will be the second adaptation from the DC...
