J.J. Abrams Drops Surprise 'Cloverfield' Sequel Trailer Posted: OK, music industry and your surprise albums — J.J. Abrams is answering with a surprise movie. In the oodles of spare time he had while directing "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Abrams apparently produced a surprise, top-secret sequel to 2008's monster smash, "Cloverfield." The follow-up is titled "10 Cloverfield Lane," and Abrams' Bad Robot production company and Paramount just unveiled the first trailer. Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman, and John Gallagher Jr., "10 Cloverfield Lane" is described by Abrams to Collider as a "blood relative" of the earlier film. The project, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, had been known as "Valencia," but its connection to "Cloverfield" comes as a complete surprise. The trailer doesn't give much away — Winstead's character is locked up in a basement/bomb shelter by a captor (Goodman) who claims to be shielding her from the dangers of the outside world. "10 Cloverfield Lane" hits theaters March 11. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
New 'Star Wars: Rebels' Trailer Reveals Huge 'Force Awakens' Connection Posted: If you're not watching Disney XD's "Star Wars: Rebels," you may want to soon fix that. Hot off the success of "The Force Awakens," a new trailer for the animated series has hit -- which teases both a connection to villain Kylo Ren and (potentially) another Sith from the Prequels. The trailer, providing an action-y sneak peek at the final six episodes of Season 2, shows hero Ezra Bridger activating -- wait for it -- a green-bladed cross guard lightsaber. Yep, one similar to that of The blade is the same color as Luke's saber from "Return of the Jedi," and it's also seemingly more refined in its construction -- judging by the smoother edges of the energy blade compared to Ren's crackling, jagged weapon. *puffs on inhaler. This reveal offers the first hint of connective tissue between the fan-favorite series and the biggest movie of all-time. Watch the trailer now: Also teased? Toward the end of the trailer, Ezra encounters a hooded figure whose face, covered in shadow, bears markings similar to Darth Maul. Mind. Blown. The connections to previous Star Wars films don't stop there. The trailer also confirms appearances from Princess Leia, Yoda, and Darth Vader. Is Maul still alive in this pre-"New Hope" universe? If so, where has he been? What's he been up to? We'll hopefully find out when "Rebels" returns January 20. %Slideshow-348610% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Grizzly Adams' Star Dan Haggerty Dies at 74 Posted: Dan Haggerty, who brought to life the titular frontiersman in the 1974 film and subsequent TV series "Grizzly Adams," died after battling cancer at the age of 74. In "The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams," Haggerty's woodsman flees into the wilderness to escape a wrongful murder charge. He befriends and cares for a bear cub, who remains Grizzly's best friend, even after maturing into full size. Before starring in the show, Haggerty worked as an animal handler and stuntman in Hollywood. He guest starred in shows including "CHiPs," "Charlie's Angels," and "The Love Boat." His last movie credit was a cameo in the 2013 movie "Axe Giant: The Wrath of Paul Bunyan." Haggerty suffered from cancer of the spine, which was discovered by doctors during surgery for back pain. He is survived by five children. Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook. This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
NBC Wants to Air 'Hamilton' Musical (But It Will Be a While) Posted: Everyone is talking about "Hamilton," the musical sensation about our founding father Alexander Hamilton that's currently the hottest (and hardest to procure) ticket on Broadway. For those who can't make it to NYC to see the show in person, there's a possibility that you could simply wait for it come to a television near you -- but you'll be waiting a long time. That's the word from NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt, who told a small group of reporters at the Television Critics Association this week that he was interested in tackling a televised production of the musical. Whether it would be live -- like NBC's previous musical efforts -- or pre-taped -- like Fox's upcoming "Rocky Horror Picture Show" -- is unclear. But whatever the format, those clamoring to see it shouldn't bet on it airing on the network anytime soon. "I'm very fortunate to be a personal investor in 'Hamilton,'" Greenblatt told reporters. "I'm friendly and close with all those producers and the creative team, and I think sure, we'd love to be able to film 'Hamilton' in some capacity, but I think it would be years before they even look at a movie or any kind of film version of that show." While that may be disappointing for those dying to see the show, Greenblatt's remarks still offer a faint glimmer of hope for fans of the hip-hop-flavored production. "It's a thrilling theatrical experience," the exec said. "I think it'd be a thrilling movie or television experience, and yeah, I'd love to [bring it to NBC]. I think it's unrealistic for a decade or so, but check back with me then." We plan on it, Bob. [via: E! Chris Pine Confirms 'Wonder Woman' Set During WWI, Will Be 'Batman v Superman' Prequel Posted: The upcoming standalone "Wonder Woman" movie had been rumored to be a prequel to "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," and now, one of the flick's stars has confirmed that intel -- and dished on the film's detailed period setting. In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Chris Pine -- who's playing Steve Trevor, the love interest of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) -- revealed some behind the scenes details about the top secret project, which is currently in production. Among the highlights: The movie takes place long before the events of "Batman v Superman," during World War I. "It's a period we don't see often; it's usually World War II," Pine told the Sun. "Our costume design is incredible. We have scenes with, like, 500 extras all in period dress. I'd never been on a film with extras casting as beautifully done as it is here." In addition to that careful attention to detail, Pine praised his director, Patty Jenkins, who he said brought a deft touch to the film's duality as both a comic book movie and a period piece. "Patty is just directing the daylights out of it," the actor gushed. "It's shot beautifully [and] feels so wonderfully period, but also has this wonderful pop sensibility." We can't wait to see it all come together. "Wonder Woman" is due in theaters on June 23, 2017. The New 'Fuller House' Teaser Stars the Whole Family Posted: We still don't have a full-length trailer for upcoming "Full House" revival series "Fuller House," but Netflix has been slowly parceling out sneak peeks at the continuing adventures of the Tanner clan, including a new teaser that stars the entire gang. The short and sweet clip doesn't give away much in terms of plot, but does give audiences their first look at the stars in action, as they busily help the recently-widowed D.J. (Candace Cameron Bure) move back into her familiar childhood home in San Francisco (a repainted recreation of the original "Full House" set), with her three kids in tow. Uncle Jesse (John Stamos) wrestles with one of his nephews on the couch, while Danny (Bob Saget) carries a box marked "Stephanie's Music" up the stairs. Uncle Joey (Dave Coulier), meanwhile, clutches Mr. Woodchuck, while Kimmy (Andrea Barber) follows close behind with a box of the puppet's paraphernalia. Aunt Becky (Lori Loughlin) brings in a few more cartons, while Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) directs the helpers from the comfy confines of the couch. Even the new family dog (a Golden Retriever puppy, just like Comet) gets a cameo. The entire thing is soundtracked by a few bars of the original "Full House" theme song, "Everywhere You Look," adding even more nostalgia to the proceedings. It may only be 14 seconds long, but this clip certainly packs a punch -- and will hopefully be enough to tide fans over until the show premieres (or a new, longer trailer drops). "Fuller House" debuts on Netflix on February 26. Photo credit: YouTube %Slideshow-282446% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
'Friends' Reunion Update: Matthew Perry Won't Be There for You Posted: Sorry, "Friends" fans, but that so-called "reunion" of the six sitcom castmates isn't really a reunion anymore: One of the main friends won't be there for you. Matthew Perry will be absent when production starts on the planned tribute to legendary sitcom director James Burrows, which was to have featured several casts of his famous series, including "Frasier," "Will & Grace," "The Big Bang Theory," and the "Friends" crew. Perry is currently in London rehearsing for a new play, "The End of Longing," which is set to begin previews in the coming weeks. The Burrows special -- which is airing on NBC next month -- is set to tape on January 24. NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt had gotten fans' hopes up earlier this week when he announced at a Television Critics Association panel that the "Friends" gang -- Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Perry, and David Schwimmer -- were set to reunite to pay tribute to Burrows, who helmed many episodes of "Friends" throughout its 10-season run (including the pilot, and the infamous "The One Where Ross and Rachel Take a Break"). Greenblatt had said that he was cautiously optimistic that he could wrangle the entire cast together to honor Burrows, but was hesitant to call it a sure thing. "We'd like to get all six of them in the same room at the same time, but I'm not sure we can logistically pull it off," Burrows said at the time. But on Thursday, a representative for Perry told USA Today that Perry simply wouldn't be able to make it, since he's tied up across the pond (something NBC reportedly knew before Greenblatt's announcement). "Matthew may tape something for the tribute," the spokeswoman, Lisa Kasteler, told the outlet. "In other words, this is not the reunion people have been hoping for." You're telling us. Could we BE any more bummed? Then again, this was never supposed to be hyped as solely a "Friends" reunion anyway -- the special is really all about Burrows and his contribution to the television landscape over many decades (including his involvement with classic series such as "Cheers," "Taxi," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "The Bob Newhart Show," and "Laverne & Shirley"). We suppose now that Perry will be missing, the focus can shift back to Burrows where it belongs. The special is set to air on NBC on February 21. 'Harry Potter' Fans Create Alan Rickman Memorial at Platform 9 3/4, Universal Studios Posted: Moviegoers have been mourning the sudden loss of Alan Rickman, who died on Thursday at age 69 after a private battle with cancer. While the beloved actor was known for numerous roles throughout his long and varied career, his turn as Professor Severus Snape in the "Harry Potter" saga will always remain one of his most iconic, and fans of the series are remembering him in their own unique way. Potterheads have created several makeshift memorials to Rickman over the past 24 hours, including one at Platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross Station in London, the site where students boarded the Hogwarts Express in the books and films. Fans have left flowers (a lot of lilies, naturally), cards, handmade signs, and photographs, and even a couple green scarves to represent Slytherin House, which Snape headed in the series.
Excuse us, we have something in our eyes. We miss you Alan. Always. [h/t Mashable, Vulture] Photo credit: Getty Images %Slideshow-356768% This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
