George Miller Says He Won't Make More 'Mad Max' Movies

Posted: 12 Jan 2016 08:30 PM PST

Since the release of Mad Max: Fury Road last may, we've been hearing about more potential sequels. Writer-director George Miller has mentioned multiple scripts and in October said he was in discussion with Warner Bros. for the next installment. But for a movie as successful as Fury Road -- critically and awards-wise more than financially, though it was certainly no flop -- it's been surprising that no official greenlight has been given for Mad Max 5 yet. Now, sadly, comes word that there may never be another at all. "I won't make more Mad Max movies," Miller said Sunday night following the Golden Globes, according to Page Six. The director, who was nominated for a Globe and just received his first DGA Awards nomination for helming Fury Road...

The DGA Nominate Ridley Scott, Adam McKay and a Killer Batch of First-Time Directors

Posted: 12 Jan 2016 07:00 PM PST

We're only two days away from the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences announcing their nominees for the 2016 Oscars, and while they are the end of the golden statue road, they're not the only awards body around. There are several guilds in the industry that also ask their members to vote on the best filmmaking of the year, and the latest group to do so is the Directors Guild of America. The DGA has a much, much larger voting body than the Oscar's own director's pool. The guild consists of over 15,000 members, with a demographic base that tends to be younger and more diverse than the 400 people who will vote for Best Director at the Oscars. So that's to say it's not too surprising that the DGA is more inclined to nominate directors who deliver films...

Watch: This New Trailer for 'The Witch' Is Incredibly Unsettling

Posted: 12 Jan 2016 04:00 PM PST

The best thing about The Witch is just how committed it is to its period setting. If you've ever wanted to see what it'd look like if an authentic Grimm fairytale was brought to life, this is it. The year's first incredibly unsettling horror film debuts on February 19 following rave reviews at a few film festivals, and this new trailer does a great job at teasing its creepy, crazy Puritan vibe. Check it out. So what is The Witch?  Set in 1670s New England, The Witch follows a family who's banished from their community and sent into the woods where they resettle and try to make a new life for themselves. But when a baby goes missing -- and signs of a witch begin to show caution -- the family slowly spirals out of control due to fears both real and...

'Star Wars' Buzz: John Boyega Says 'Episode 8' Will Be "Much Darker," Plus More on 'Episode 9'

Posted: 12 Jan 2016 02:15 PM PST

Filming on Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to begin this month, continuing the adventures of Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and all the rest. After the thrilling action of The Force Awakens, what can we expect from the next installment? "It's great," Boyega told Vanity Fair UK about the script by Rian Johnson, who will also direct. "Much darker, but we're very excited." That brief description has already started speculation that the film will follow in the footsteps of Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, taking a more serious and sober approach than its predecessor, The Force Awakens. That makes perfect sense from a story perspective, especially since it's long been known that the movie has been planned as part of a trilogy...

'Creed' Director Ryan Coogler Will Helm Marvel's 'Black Panther'

Posted: 12 Jan 2016 01:00 PM PST

After successfully resurrecting the Rocky series with Creed, director Ryan Coogler is set for an even bigger franchise: the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel has announced that Coogler officially signed on to direct Black Panther, the superhero blockbuster he'd been rumored for in the past. Selma's Ava DuVernay was previously considered, but she passed on the opportunity. Chadwick Boseman will star in the title role, also known as T'Challa, ruler of the fictional African country of Wakanda, who suits up to avenge his murdered father. Andy Serkis is likely to reprise his Avengers: Age of Ultron role of Ulysses Klaue as the villain of the movie, which is being scripted by Joe Robert Cole.  The news comes at the end of a...
